Make sure you get the fried shrimp as an add on to your steak. Yumm! Sherry McCoy was our waitress and she steered us towards the best choices. She made us feel like family. She also chased us to the parking lot when we forgot our credit card at the table.

We come here about once a year when visiting family. The service is attentive and friendly. The drinks are generous. We enjoy our visits. The steaks are usually dependable. They know how to bake a potato. However, if we weren't paying early bird prices, we would have been a lot more picky. As it was, we had a great time. And, the coffee--decaf and full strength both--is excellent.

I was in town on business and had dinner here. The sea bass was awesome, very fresh. The service was great as well. Would definitely eat here again.

Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The salad arrived in a large bowl. The only thing good about it was mixed greens and not junk lettuce. We were allotted two cherry tomatoes, two black olives, a hand full of croutons and a smattering of red onion rings. It was mostly lettuce. My meal arrived with a huge stalk of broccoli. Which I had to prep to eat. It was tasty though. My medallions were cooked as ordered. Oh and they have plate vultures. You know those employees who circle around the tables looking to swoop up the next plate that the customer MAY be done with. Makes me uncomfortable, I feel like I can't rest while eating and I have to guard my plate. Really, does an establishment need their plates so bad to wash them for the next customer.

Kelseys is the definition of great service. Also, the food is fantastic. Steak was well cooked and escargot was amazing. I would definitely recommend Kelseys.

I wish I could give this place four stars accounting for the semi-rural location and lack of high end steak houses in the area, but I have to stay true to my personal scale and hope that my reviews will help restaurants improve. The steak here is good but by no means great. They do not offer PRIME meat as it all appears to be Choice, and forget about dry aged meat, that's just not happening here. That being said the NY Strip I had was flavorful and well prepared. I ate here with my family so I saw a good sampling of their dishes. The sides and salads were pretty uneventful. The twice baked potato seems to be star of the sides show. It was tasty but nothing to write home about. The salad is made with iceberg lettuce which pretty much looks like it came out of a bag. Overall the prices are reasonable on the food. The wine list is decent, and reasonably priced as well, but they are catering to the lower end market with their selections by the glass. On a positive note there are plenty of bottles you can get for around $20 and they have a great Early Bird special if you're into that kind of thing!

Came into town for graduation. My mother wanted to take the family for dinner to celebrate. The atmosphere was festive - hey it was a family gathering - and the alcohol was flowing! Wines/spirits: fair selection however I drink rye (none to be had or heard of) Appetizers: fried onion rings - not my usual pick Entrees: steak/prime rib - most likely choice not prime and very PRICEY Hey I am from Los Angeles and really ddon't blink at prices but when I am frankly in the middle of now where ID I think I should be getting much better for my dinero!

Kelsey's is a very clean, nice place and the food was very good. I had the Filet and it was cooked just right. Definitely will go back.

The service here was really great. The interior is well designed and inviting. Looks very nice on the inside. The food is just so so. I wouldn't spend that amount again for a steak from them. We got a New York Strip that was pretty tough and no seasonings. You could taste that it was cooked over charcoal and it was cooked med rare as requested. The lack of vegetables for side dishes was disappointing. The red potatoes were very tasty. We paid $5 extra to have onions and mushrooms with my steak and I wish I would've save that money instead. The big bowl of salad that they brought for our table was good as the lettuces weren't just iceberg like a previous commenter had during their experience. For the price of dinner here, I would suggest going a little further down the road to the mall in Merrillville and eat at Coopers Hawk. Now those were some tender, juicy, flavorful steaks.

Traveling through Valparaiso, wanted a good steak. Desk clerk at the hotel suggested Kelsey's claiming they 'had the best steaks in northern Indiana'. I had the New York Strip, a 12 oz steak that came warm, not hot. Also, I paid $1.50 extra for the baked sweet potato, which came warm, but not hot, as well. I gave Kelsey's a 2-star simply because I've eaten far better steaks for less than what I paid there. I felt the prices for the meal were high for what you got (a shrimp cocktail with 4 shrimp for $10.95?!) The server was efficient but cold. To be honest, Logan Roadhouse is down the road a few miles and gives a better value for the dollar. Kelsey's was good, but not good enough. 2 stars is generous.

Went for an early Valentines dinner to avoid the rush - NEVER AGAIN, EVER!! We had heard of this place on the Food Channel and gone once before after new management took over, so we dismissed the poor service to that. Came back this time and had gotten even worse. Waitress forgot to put in our app so it came after dinner. Manager was had terrible people skills and stated with an attitude "tell me what is wrong now or I can't help you" because we were trying to be tactful in telling her of the app incident. Our food came out cold - the pasta was basically congealed and the shrimp were well overdone. His "porterhouse" looked like a t-bone and was VERY small. Waitress never checked with us to see if we needed anything and when app arrived late, manager snatched it off of our table and began chastising the waitress. We could not get our bill fast enough and get out of there. Ended up going Downtown Valpo for a proper dessert and drinks, as we did not want to give them another dime of our money. We would've been better off going to Longhorn, Downtown Valpo, or the like where the prices match the service and quality of food. Heard other tables grumbling about their service as well. All in all a horrible experience, we will NOT be back nor will we be recommending it to anyone. Food Channel needs to remove them from their recommendations.

For a steakhouse, this is very good. Lots of food, steaks done perfectly, limited menu (they know what they're doing and do it well). Good place to eat.
