When walking into Designer Desserts, one cannot help but feel happy. First off, you're about to see the most beautiful cupcakes ever made. Second of all, you're surrounded by lovely pastel colors that instantly lift your mood! The cheery ambiance really sets the tone for this place. I have been coming here for a few years now, and unfortunately, do not live in Northwest Indiana anymore. No more Designer Desserts for me (unless I'm in town visiting)! But I figured I would still write a review since I have been here many times before. Their selection is unmatched. I believe they have over 95+ different varieties total. On any given day, it's safe to say you'd at least have 50 different varieties to choose from. My favorites were their S'more cupcake and their Green Tea cupcake. And they usually have markdown prices for certain cupcakes with a pink sticker on the label. Score! They are very rich and always have an abundance of frosting. The way that these cupcakes are decorated is nothing short of amazing. Just a work of art. I miss this place and their awesome variety. I heard they do wedding cakes, too! Every time I've ever been here, it's been pretty crowded with people, so I think it's safe to say they're doing well and are getting good business. As they should be! The only thing I'd change is their hours. They have longer summertime hours, but during the fall and winter months, they start closing early in the evenings. But that's okay. Keep rockin' on, Designer Desserts. I wish you many more awesome years in Valpo!

I have heard so much hype about this place that I had to try it out. The place is adorable and the cupcakes LOOK immaculate! There are so many to choose from! The staff was super friendly even when we came in at last minute. I got the cookie dough cupcake and my boyfriend got cotton candy. Sure, $4 a cupcake seems like a lot but there bigger than average and decorated really nicely. However, I was not impressed with the quality of the cupcakes. (Hence the 3 star review) The cake was really dry and there was so much frosting on top it was half the cupcake. It just simply wasn't a good cupcake. I have had far better deserts for less then a dollar and been way more satisfied. You are paying for the looks and designs people!

The cupcakes are HUGE!!! Great selection and very delicious. Given each cupcake consists of many layers of cream, it's not wise to eat all the time. Too bad I am on a diet...

I went here for the first time not too long ago and was really excited about the creativity, and quality of twit cupcakes! I tried the rootbeer float, and smores cupcake- they are true to their names. Super sugary cupcakes, but will hit the spot if you want a good sweet!

I love the cupcakes here. Pink champagne was always one of my favorites. A bit pricy but the cupcakes are large enough to share. They use a good amount of frosting, but they don't overdo it either. They currently offer gluten free cupcakes on Fridays and Saturdays. However, there is only chocolate cake with either vanilla or chocolate frosting.

I used to get cupcakes here all the time and I would always look at the wedding cakes. I also bought them for events and parties that I went to and they were always a hit. So when it came time for my wedding we asked about getting a cake made. Apparently you have to have your event with one of the venues that they have a contract with and spend a minimum of $1000.00 I thought this was a local business I was supporting all this time. That seems like more of a big business strategy and it made us feel looked down upon that we were not spending that much money. I still have bought an occasional cupcake there with my family from out of town but my husband refuses to go back or give them his business. I guess my waistline will be better off now that I'm not eating so many cupcakes.

My wife told me about a cool cupcake shop in Valpo and wanted to check it out. So we loaded up the family and headed out to Valpo for some sweets and boy were we in for a treat. Me and the family were blown away by the selection of cupcakes! No matter what flavor you decide on you will be pleasantly pleased. Great prices. Great icing. Great cupcakes.

How freaking cute! Big designer cupcakes for $4! Definitely thoughtfully crafted down to the tiniest details! They could have a bigger macaroon selection than 2 colors of one vanilla flavor.

WOW! Such a cute gem in downtown Valpo is without a review??! Jeesh... Well I guess I'll get on the gun! Designer Desserts is an adorable bakery and cafe located directly across from the Porter County Courthouse that offers cakes, desserts and sweets. You can't help yourself from being caught up in the whimsical, bubbly decor full of colors, furniture, and even a horse-sized dinosaur munching on a cupcake! Designer Adam Wiltfang creates edible works-of-art. His cakes can be all yours for that special occasion with 72 hours notice. Glass cases are full of cookies, amazing muffins, delectable brownies, decadent mousses, truffles and cheesecakes. Upon request, they can also offer sugar free, gluten free, and dairy free products. You can't pass by the "Candy Corner" which has tons of old fashion candies that I remember from my childhood. Remember: Root beer barrels, candy buttons, wax lips, candy cigarettes, candy rocks/pebbles... Yep, they got 'em! I had come here in search of dessert for after dinner at friends house. We bought up four cannoli and a variety of six cupcakes. The cannolis were awesome and thankfully not stuffed with whipped cream. The cupcakes, on the other hand, were not the best I've had (hence the loss of one star) due to the cake being a bit stale on half the cupcakes we bought. The frosting made up for it topping off Red Velvet, Mocha and sweet Chocolate. If you're in the area, you must treat yourself to a treat! [See pictures I took with my cell phone under business photos]

This location is clean and the employees are usually friendly. DD has a large variety of cupcake flavors. I highly recommend the Texan one (it has toffee in it and fudge in the middle!) and the dark chocolate raspberry one! MMMMM! The old school one is decent for a chocolate fix, too. I haven't had many non-chocolate flavors since I'm a chocoholic. The one with the pretzel on the top was ok. The blackout one was ok-but, I felt that it had too many sprinkles on it. I've had the cookies and they're decent, but, not worth going crazy over. The brownies were 1/3 brownie and 2/3 frosting, so, it was hard to taste the actual brownie part. Sometimes they have tons of sprinkles on them-sometimes, they don't. The chocolate cannolis are good. There isn't a lot of seating inside. If the seats are taken and it's a nice day, you can go across the street to Central Park where there are many benches. Out of towners may like the many fun displays in there for photo ops. They often have sales. Like them on Facebook and you can keep up to date on those-and new flavors. This is my favorite dessert place! Don't miss it! :)

This place has a fantastic assortment of cupcakes flavors. There is likely a cupcake for any person in your group. We have gone several times and have sampled at least 4 different types. The cupcakes are a bit on the pricey side in my opinion. Likewise, the cupcake itself is a bit dry which is a disappointment considering I love cupcakes. I have had worst cupcakes, but I have also had better. I would recommend you stop in and see what they have because their variety is extremely impressive.

After shopping around between South Bend Indiana, Mishawaka Indiana and everywhere in between here and Valparaiso, I finally decided to give Designer Desserts a try. I wasn't disappointed. Their cupcakes are some of the best cakes I've ever eaten, & I was so impressed with the service that I decided to have my wedding cake made here. Not only did he accommodate my specific requests, he exceeded my expectations. Everyone complimented us on how beautiful the cake was and how delicious it was. While not the cheapest place out there, I didn't feel like I was being ripped off

Me and a group of friends came in here after strolling in Downtown Valparaiso and we were amused by the cute decor of the place. Definitely a fun place for a mother-daughter pair to visit. There was an enormous selection of cupcakes to choose from; it took us a while to settle on a couple of them. They turns out too be pretty good and not overwhelming sweet as we thought they would be with the huge amount of icing on top. I also purchased pink hot chocolate which is basically white hot chocolate with pink food coloring topped with whip and pink sugar sprinkles. Pretty good for a cold winter day. Minus one star because I felt that the cashiers weren't as attentive to the customers and were in rushing them to choose their cupcakes; therefore they came off as a little rude.
(4)Adrienne W.
I have nothing negative to say. I have tried several cupcakes from this place over the years and all have been amazingly good. It always takes me forever to decide which cupcakes i want to get when I stop in there. My favorite is a toss-up between the flying monkey or the pink champagne. My husband's favorite is the creme brule. We have also attended their special valentine's day date night which I recommend! We were severed macaroons, cupcakes, and mini cheesecakes; all after hours with only a few other couples, by candlelight, and with unlimited drinks. It was a cute idea and for only $35 per couple was a good value.

Lovely place in downtown Valpo, right on Lincolnway. The cupcakes are absolutely beautiful and the variety is staggering. They have such a wide range of flavors it's hard to make a decision. I will agree with other reviewers that although the cupcakes are larger than normal, the cost is high (about 4+ dollars last time I checked, though they do have deals occassionaly). What keeps me from frequenting it is the dryness of the cupcake. You have this lovely confection that looks like it's going to be simply amazing, and it disappoints on quality. I will say the brownies are about as indulgent and rich as it gets - very moist and well done.

I've been going to Designer Desserts for years and have never been disappointed. Their cupcakes are so creative and delicious. In addition to the plethora of cupcake flavors, they usually have several other desserts to choose from that change from time to time (brownies, lemon cheesecake bars, this mint chocolate brownie slice of heaven thing, mini pies) and they are all fabulous. This weekend, they made a tiered cake (pink champagne with gold frosting and pink flowers, I posted pictures below) and it was absolutely incredible - both aesthetically and in flavor. They went above and beyond anything I ever imagined. Whether you just want a tasty sweet treat or you're planning a big party or wedding, skip the grocery bakery (gag) and go to here! You won't be disappointed and if you are, your taste buds are broken. Thank you Adam and DD, that cake was epic!

Great cupcakes, excellent flavor and presentation. A little pricy and the tables are very uneasy, moved my arm on table and it almost flipped over

I stopped in to buy some cupcakes for my parents' anniversary about 2 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into their adorable little shop. They had a wide selection to choose from and I opted to buy a mix and match half dozen cupcakes. I stopped in on St. Patty's Day and they had several holiday sweets to choose from. For 6 cupcakes, I paid a little over $20, which was a bit steep in my opinion. The box they were put in left something to be desired. There was no insert to keep the cupcakes from falling over or bumping into one another as I'd expected. They were simply set in a box. By the time they made it to my parents, their frosting had found its way onto the box when they moved around during the car ride. They weren't quite as beautiful as when I had picked them out due to poor packaging, but I was floored when I bit into one! They were, hands down, the best cupcakes I've ever had! My family and I shared them so we could each try every flavor. Every single one was outstanding. I would highly recommend them, but if you're looking for beautiful presentation after transport, bring your own box.

Their cupcakes were so good! They were so cute it was hard to choose one. the store was very clean and staff was sweet. I'll be coming back!
(5)Delia V.
I tried the cupcakes with the hubby & our two year old son. I had a Red Velvet cupcake & was disappointed with the frosting & richness of the chocolate cake. I missed the cheesecake frosting flavor & instead my tastebuds were a bit overwhelmed with sugary sprinkles. The hubby, however, enjoyed the Rolling in the Dough (cookie dough) cupcake. He said the frosting was a bit too sweet but still he liked it. Our little guy chose a classic Birthday Cake with vanilla & sprinkles frosting, along with an edible candle, and funfetti cake. I've got to say that the two year old made the best choice keeping it classic. I'd have that cupcake again for sure.
(3)Lora M.
I am not a cupcake expert but I did not like how it was too spongy. It's not bad just not that great either. So here's the 3 star. Also, it didn't seem to taste like it was newly baked. Also, the lady attempted to charge us full price when they had the big Sale price up. Good thing we caught it.
(3)Nick C.
Excellent selection of cupcakes. Love this place
(5)Jennifer D.
This place is ah-mazing! The shop is cute, the staff is friendly, the cake is ridiculously good. I've tried 2 flavors so far, Pistachio and Cherry Cherry Chip. The cupcakes are huge- and there are as many awesome flavors as you could imagine, including Cotton Candy, Caramel Apple... you name it! There's even a Maple Bacon cupcake. YUM. The Pistachio- is probably the best cake I've had in ages...maybe ever. I traveled from Cincinnati to NW Indiana to go dress shopping with a friend who's getting married next fall. I can't wait to come back and get measured for my bridesmaid dress so I can get more cupcakes! Of course, it's a good thing I don't live closer, because I would NEVER fit into my dress with this place around! ;) Enough chat- time to tear into my 3rd and final cupcake... Tiramisu!
(5)Max S.
Deserts are good, service and pricing is OK. Decor and ambiance is very cool and unique. On our recent visit we encountered a "less-than-enthusiastic" employee, an OK cupcake and a satisfied sweet tooth (for my French friend).
(3)Billie R.
What a selection! We tried 4 ( yes, 4- go with a group!) I was very happy with my selection- so much so, I wanted to unshared! I chose the maple bacon- it was super moist and had the cutest little pig on top! We also tried the Pink Champagne- it was very nice, the frosting was amazingly fluffy! The other two were good, but after trying the maple bacon everything else pales in comparison! Go, try some yummy cupcakes!
(4)Adam L.
With a weeks advance notice, I was told they could not reserve my order simply because they don't have enough refrigerators for that day. Keep in mind this is after they told us to come in one week to four days in advance. No apology, no sincerity. Their recommendation was to come in the day of the party and buy out of the case. What a joke. Not enough refrigerators? Great job taking care of your guests.

perfect place to enjoy a cupcake and a good conversation with friends
(5)Courtney C.
Love this cute little bakery! It's the perfect small business in Valpo and they ALWAYS do a great job! There are always plenty of flavors of cupcakes to choose from on a daily basis and something for everyone! You can also special order sugar free, gluten free cupcakes which is AMAZING and so helpful for me! Thanks DD for all you do.
(5)Melanie J.
Cutest store ever! This place is adorable and the cupcakes are really good. I always pop in here for treats and gifts-- everyone is always amazed. The only complaint I could have is that sometimes the cake is a little dry and there is too much frosting. Also, I wish that some of the frosting on the cupcakes actually tasted like the name of the flavor. Otherwise, they are delcious, huge and a nice little indulgence. Go here!
(4)Amy M.
This store is simply adorable! I love the theme they have going on, cute and fun! The cupcakes are amazing looking as well, so many flavors you don't know how to choose. But the presentation is kinda misleading. Cupcakes as far as taste were dry and didn't have that fresh taste to them you would expect. We've tried multiple times and multiple flavors. I hope this store becomes more conscious of "taste" quality of their cupcakes, because it is such an awesome place and Valparaiso needs little unique stores like this one as well as others!
(3)Honest A.
Insanely good - seems like a bit of Chicago fun and quality in nw Indiana.

I don't know where people are getting these bad reviews. I have been to Designer Desserts probably 10 times in the past year. We ordered our wedding cake from here and everybody was super helpful. Adam came up with an amazing idea for the cake that I never would have thought of and as he got excited about it, I knew my wedding cake was in great hands. Since then my fiance and I have been back for numerous cupcakes just for a treat. The pumpkin with the pumpkin cream cheese icing is the most amazing thing i've ever tasted. And my fiance, who has tried every Red Velvet cupcake he can get his hands on in IN, IL, MI, says that the Designer Desserts red velvet is by far the greatest one he has had. We've taken them to family members for birthdays and everybody is equally impressed. The only cupcake i've had from there that I didn't like was the pink champagne....just a little "bubbly" for my taste. All in all, I will continue to go back to Designer Desserts because of the service, the taste and the decor. I think the people that didn't have a good experience probably went in there looking for the negatives.
(5)Samantha P.
The first time I walked in to designer deserts it took my breath away, it was like a cupcake heaven. The store front is colorful and charming. It had beautiful little displays in the 'windows" to the right of the entrance and a penny candy counter to the left with giant dinosaurs and animal toys. The wall decor was adorable and the little lunch "bistro" was yummy and perfect for a light lunch and to save room for desert. A lot has changed here and a lot of the things that made this place so wonderful and special have gone away now and sadly I think it's lost a lot of it's charm. The cakes and cookies look amazing but the taste and moisture are often inconsistent and I've never been impressed with any of their frostings. I always stop in here when walking down town but I think it's just because I used to be so impressed with this place and just keep hoping it will go back to how it was.
(3)Derek C.
Great little bakery that we are lucky to have here in Valpo. My favorite is their German chocolate cupcake and I'm not even German. My kids love everything they have available.
(4)Mary H.
Placed a large order of cup cakes that cost $165.00 over two months before the event with a very helpful employee. Was contacted five days before the event that the chocolate 3d molds where not working out and that they wanted to change to sugar decorations. After several minutes discussing the options we reluctantly changed our chocolate mold to one decoration made out of fondant, and the remaining two would be 2d chocolate molds. We where also informed that the employee who took our order was no longer there. Our event was held on Sunday so we where aware that the order would be picked up on Saturday. We arrive to pick up the order, the decorator came out to greet us and explain the decorations to us. The 2d decorations where very disappointing, our red ducks had swirls of yellow in the majority of them and the mustaches had visible air bubbles in the chocolate. She also informed us we would be responsible for placing the decorations on top of each large cup cake. After discussing the disappointment with our cup cakes one employee informed me very matter a factly that I was "not charges nearly enough money"... I was appalled. I will never return to this business. The cupcakes are delicious but this was the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
(1)Allison V.
This is a cute little bakery. The have the front cases that hold a lot of different cupcakes and brownies. They also sell a number of knickknack type of treats for gifts and whatnot. My friend had placed an order and had been specific with her instructions. When we arrived for the pickup the cake was ready but the cupcakes were not (and she had ordered a large number of cupcakes). No compensation was offered. The employees appeared dumbfounded and not really sure what to do. We ended up just picking out random cupcakes from the case. i tried a red velvet cupcake and it was moist and pretty good for a cupcake, but not the best.
(3)Bella D.
Cute cakes, terrible customer service. The women are rude beyond belief :( I don't know if I will be back!
(2)Beth M.
This place is adorable! It is like walking into a little girl's fantasy with cupcakes. They have tons of flavors and a friendly staff. I've had several different varieties, and my favorite is still the signature 'Double D.' The cookies are a little on the dry side though. My only complaint is that they no longer take cake orders of less than $75, so we can't order cakes from them anymore.
(4)Casey B.
Cute place! I love the inside, and all of the food is yummy. It is a little expensive, but the are definitely a nice treat.
(4)Alexia G.
This is the cutest, most delicious cupcake shop I have ever been in! If you are in the downtown Valpo area, this place is a must visit. I had the peanut butter cup cupcake.. It's the size of a slice of cake! And only $4 :-). The employees are really nice as well!
(5)Samantha G.
This is a great bakery! The frosting on all the cupcakes are like the best part. The cannolis, especially pistachio, are amazing. I recommend everyone to come here.
(5)Nathan E.
I love this place! Every cupcake is beautifully designed and as hard as it is to believe, they're even more delicious than they look. There is only one thing that I hate about coming here.....I always have such a hard time deciding which kind to get! $4.00 might seem pricey for a cupcake, but in my humble opinion, it's a small price to pay for a little piece of heaven. The cupcakes are very large and they usually have several to choose from that are discounted. They also have a good selection of cookies and brownies which I have yet to try because I just can't pass up one of their delicious cupcakes. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful. If you're in Valparaiso and you like sweets, don't skip out on Designer Desserts!
(5)Jenn M.
This has been the best bakery I have ever been to! The shop is adorable. The hardest part was picking which cupcake to get. They have so many options to choose from. We ended up getting a coconut cream and key lime cupcake. Both of them were delicious. The cupcakes were fresh, moist and the icing was creamy, but not overly sweet. I only wish we had this shop in our state! Highly recommended!!
(5)Megan K.
We ordered cupcakes here for our wedding in Chicago. We got married during a "slow time" so they were willing to deliver for a small fortune...but at that point, it kept my mother happy & didn't require me to drive to Valpo to pick them up. We had dark chocolate raspberry, creme brulee & pink champagne cupcakes. They were good and looked super cute. Overall, I was pleased with our order.
(4)Kristen G.
What else can I say other than ah-mazing cupcakes!! Awesome selection/so many different types of cupcakes. Very cute inside and very friendly staff! Def recommend!
(5)Mari M.
I have tried five or six cupcakes here and they have all been pretty good. They have tons of different flavors of cupcakes and one can easily become overwhelmed. I usually panic and just randomly order something because I have a hard time deciding when presented with so many options. That, however, is my problem, not theirs. The salted caramel dark chocolate cupcake is really good. I would recommend that cupcake to anyone who has a hard time deciding on a cupcake flavor. The prices are really fair and their sale cupcakes (only $2) are a fantastic deal.
(4)K K.
Dry and Horrible. Ran into this bakery when they parked a food truck in Michigan city. Beautiful paint job but the service and the cupcake were not good. They had no cutlery or napkins! The cupcake itself was pretty looking but was dry and crumbled apart. I would not recommend their products at all!
(1)Jessica M.
Designer Desserts is a delightful, little bakery located across from the court house. The decor is very flamboyant and it reminded me of a playhouse for toddlers. I've only been here once to order an 8 inch gift box cake for my international friend's last birthday in the states. I was given various options for the cake flavor and filling, and I chose the vanilla/chocolate swirl cake with banana filling. The total came to a whopping $40 which is rather decent since it's customized and specially designed, but the cake flavor itself was contrary. The cake was a mouthful of sugar and the creme on the exterior was literally an inch or more thick. All in all, it was more of an eye candy and served its festive purpose.
(3)Shawn C.
Cupcakes have been huge the last few years and usually the specialty bakeries can be found in popular downtown areas. My wife pointed out to me that Valpo had one that we had to try. So after trying many mom and pop varieties and a few big chain location we had a notion for what we were looking for. * The place was cute and had an easy to get to location * A large selection of visually tasty looking cupcakes * A large selection of baked and ready to eat cupcakes * Cupcakes that are moist and delicious Out of all of these the last one is the keeper, but for this visit I didnt feel like it was great. To me it tasted old such like it was baked and then frozen until ready. Now with how busy they were I could expect why that is done to offer a vast selection and still be able to accomodate the requests. But for this I have to refrain from the four stars for now.
(3)Theodora H.
This place is adorable and your blood sugar will probably spike just by inhaling all the sugary smells when you walk in. They have lots of gourmet cupcakes to choose from so this is a great place to go when you're looking to splurge on your caloric intake. Be aware that half of your cupcake will be frosting, the other half being actual cupcake as they seem to load on the frosting. One cupcake is just too sweet for me so I usually split it and save the other half for the next day. The workers are pleasant product presentation is well-thought-out. Sometimes the discount cupcakes are dry. Perfect for when you want to treat yourself!
