If you find yourself in downtown Union City, you need to start paying closer attention to your GPS. If you happen to drive through here when you are hungry, you need to go to Taqueria Luz Tacos to change that. It's not too hard of a place to miss, since the colors of the Mexican flag are prominent on a street with store fronts that are fairly plain. There was plenty of parking on the street in front of the restaurant at 6:30 on a Saturday night, and I think that is likely the case at any time of day. When you walk in, you'll first notice a market area where they sell a variety of Mexican groceries as well as produce, standard store items, and quite a few odds items that I wouldn't have expected to see. They have a pretty impressive selection of Mexican sodas and other drinks in their refrigerator. If you keep walking past the market, you will find the kitchen and some more seating for the restaurant section of the business. For the occasion that brought me here, the group rented out the large room in the back that probably had seating for over 100 people. If you are looking for a space to host a crowd, this is definitely something I would recommend looking into. The price to rent the room was much cheaper than we expected, the space was already all set up with table and chairs, they let us in early to decorate, they have a large speaker system that they let you use along with a projector and screen, and there is ample open space that is perfect for games, dancing, or whatever else you want to use it for. I probably sampled way more food than I should have, but it was all so good. We started off with chips and salsa, for which they bring out both a green and red salsa that were both delicious. I thought the green one packed a little bit of a punch. The chips were thick and crisp, and they kept the baskets full. We also got a couple orders of queso which come in generous portions that have plenty to use both for your chips and to coat your main dish with. The menu is pretty standard tex mex options, including but not limited to burritos, sopes, tortas, tacos, quesadillas, and a variety of sides. I got a Super Burrito because let's be honest, how often can you pass up something with "super" in the title. It came out very quickly and did not disappoint. It was massive and delicious. The huge tortilla was stuffed full, and I coated it with salsa and some queso to put it over the top. I think it was a $5 burrito that easily could have fed someone with self control for two meals. The tacos and quesadillas that other people ordered got plenty of praise as well, and everything was just so cheap that we all ate too much. The drink options were also very easy on the wallet, as bottles of standard beers were $2 and some of their better options topped out at $3 a bottle. You could get them by the bottle or get a convenient bucket that came with your beers buried in ice so they would stay ice cold until you wanted another. They even brought out their Mexican varieties with limes in them to give them that refreshing twist that everyone has grown to expect with that type. The thing that would put this into the 5 star category for me even if the value wasn't so fantastic is how amazingly accommodating they were for us. The lady who owns the place stayed late so we could keep partying and was super nice the entire night and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we could possibly need. She even told us numerous times not to worry about turning up the music and enjoying ourselves. She was also the one who let us come in early to get our stuff set up before the rest of the crowd, and she and her staff were out constantly making sure we had all the food and drinks we could want. It's refreshing to meet a business owner who is so into customer service and genuinely wants to make her customers happy. I think it has a lot to do with the small town setting, but it's certainly a different style than I am used to seeing in Indy. I would definitely visit here again, even if I wasn't looking for a cheap and quick place to get a lot of food. They have a lot of menu items that I didn't get to try that I would love to order. It's also a place I wouldn't hesitate to book for a larger event if I was ever needed to host one in the Union City area.

Love the super burritos - chicken or steak. For only $5.00, you get a burrito that is a full meal. I need to break out of my normal routine and try other menu items.

The five stars are for the food. I am still thinking about the chicken super burrito I had there yesterday. Really liked the flavor of the grilled chicken and the rice that was inside. Beats the hell out of qdoba or chipotle. Burrito was about the same size as those establishment's. Not sure when I will be back to Union City, but when I am, I will be heading here. As others have said, it's a dive. Small supermaket in the front and the restaurant in the back. My co-worker had the chicken quesidilla and also liked it a lot. Both entrees were straight up $5 apiece.

This by far is the best tasting mexican food I have had!!! Also you can't beat the prices especially for the amount of food you get and the quality of it. This was our first time visiting and we knew when we walked in and it was so packed we had to wait a few minutes, that it was going to be good. We began the meal with chips and salsa which were both different but great. The hot green one had a lot of heat but was very addictive. The generous serving of cheese dip we got was good too. The quesadillas were huge and had a ton of yummy goodness inside. The tacos and super tacos were good too. We tried both steak and pork and enjoyed them both. The sopes were wonderful and very filling for only $1 each. The thing that always makes or breaks it at a mexican restaurant for me besides the staples (rice, beans, chips & salsa) is the guacamole which was excellent. We live about a half hour away but we will be back again soon for sure!

I love the super tacos and supper burritos. I become the county's cheapest date when I go to Taqeria luz tacos because I get two super tacos for $4. The salsa is thinner than most salsas at other Mexican restaurants but it is served warm and is so good. I also like the fresh cilantro that is cooked with the meat. I went there yesterday and my left overs were still delicious today. Definitely worth your time and money. :)

I love taking people places where they're totally freaked out by the outward appearance of the business but when you leave they're raving about the food- Taqueria Luz Tacos is one of those places. Despite their sometimes chaotic front window displays, there are a lot of great things going on inside this Mexican grocery/restaurant. Besides, I wouldn't want the window displays to be all fancy - that'd take all the fun out of it. Enough about the window displays. Bebidas: I highly recommend the cinnamony/ricey goodness known as Horchata. My mom swears by the mango juice called Boing (found in the front cooler when you walk in). They also offer a couple different Mexican beers. Comida: A side of rice and beans are a staple with whatever main dish I'm hankerin' - I switch back and forth between the beef enchiladas and tamales - when they are available. My family loves the super burritos. And when I say "super" I mean super-duper-enormous-loaded-meant-to-be-two-meals "super". On top of wonderful food and a great small town/casual atmosphere, Taqueria Luz Tacos is extremely affordable - a group of four rarely costs more than 20 bucks. Shopping - obviously I can't think of the translation right now: They sell everything from bulk beans and soccer clothes to snakeskin boots and cacti. --all at affordable prices, of course.

This place continues to knock my socks off. Do NOT be put off by the first few steps into this mercado - NOR drive past. You will miss out. Fantastic eatery. Great people. Good prices. Just the two of us this time. SOP - chips and two warm salsas - drink orders. Score! They have horchata and a grapefruit Jarritas. Si, por favor! Pops didn't want the quantity of food that he gets with the nachos so I suggested he try a torta this go round. He chose the chicken torta w/ everything. I marveled at the sopes and super tacos; and being unable to narrow got all - 2 puerco sopes and a carne asada super taco. Freshly prepared, they arrived in no time whatsoever. His torta was crispy pressed and grilled to perfection and he loved the jalapenos on the sandwich as well. He was pleasantly surprised at the size given the $4 price tag. My sopes were wonderful, piping hot and loaded - so much so that the queso fresco would barely stay on the little heap. The STANDOUT of my meal had to be the beef super taco! I'm still trying to work my way through the menu and you go and serve something like that to me. I may never get anything else there ever. Taqueria Luz Tacos sets the bar by which all other tacquerias are gauged in my book. (And I have to drive about 90 miles from home to get there) Wish there was a mall nearby to walk this off. Who else but me gets horchata AND a grapefruit jarritas? I may pay for this later. Is there a similar place anywhere near Carmel or Fishers? Oh - and my freaking bill was $11 before generous tippage.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
