Zero stars. Horrible food highest prices longest wait for... Oh wait, their rib eyes were spoiled, pork chops tough, very limited selection, no beer on tap. Will never go back.

Good food, good drinks, good prices. The kind of place we locals love! Can't believe anyone can give a bad review, 30 years of good food!

So...it was good. My friend got the "flatiron steak" special, which was...a steak. He said it was good. I got stuffed fish. It was likewise good. Everything was fancy, in a kitschy early 70s sort of way. Decor, service, meal structure, the dishes themselves. It was the little touches that threw everything off. The "cheese course" was mostly packaged crackers with cheese paste, in an execution almost exactly like those lunch cheese and crackers that had the little red plastic rectangle for spreading. The liquor and liqueur selection was a bit limited. The stuffed shrimp that came with the steak was dried out. The salad was fresh, but the dressing came in a little plastic cup. And the specials, including the flatiron steak, which we thought would be more like a hangar steak, did not have the prices listed. So instead of spending about 20 on the dish like he was planning, it was over 35. So no major complaints, but it just wasn't quite worth it. That being said, just putting the prices on the specials would be enough to bump it up to three stars. The old people are not especially adorable, but with the decor and the entire environment, it's actually somewhat charming.

Best advice stay away! After moving back to the area, I continued to support this establishment and its current "owners", even after hearing all the horror stories from all of its former clientele, however not any longer. I can overlook many things, the plastic disposable cups that everything is served in, the butter wrapped in shiny gold foil, the furnishings that consist of what looks like a collection of thrift store finds, stack chairs, forty year old bar stools. This might be considered quaint to some, not sure who, however, after a while you have to let something go, especially when the food is absolutely inedible, old reheated prime rib, rack of lamb served without a bit of seasoning, salt or pepper, or marinade, truly inedible, a gratis cheese and cracker basket that the crackers are stale and the cheese reminds me of what you get in that can from the market, Potatoes served any way you order them you get something that are so old they are gray. You get all this and some of the "staff" have no customer service skills. I assume that they are riding on the glory that this place had thirty years ago, well guess what they did not own it then and should not now! Maybe they will realize that someday they already have an empty building 95% of the time they are open. Take a word from a seasoned campaigner on this one for what they are charging, which for what they offer is highway robbery, pick any of the truly fine restaurants South Bend has to offer, this is a dinosaur gasping its last breath!

I was visiting from Chicago this past weekend, and decided to pay this place a visit. For dinner, I had mussels in a wine sauce with a glass of Pinot Gris. Needless to say, the food and service was fantastic. If you're ever in town visiting family or going to a Notre Dame game, I HIGHLY recommend the Louvered Door!

Very, very cool place. Excellent lunch. Wonderful steak. Good salads. Very hearty. The clientele tends to be rather old. Don't worry about the location unless you've fucked with the wrong people.

I haven't been to the Louvered Door in many years and here's why: A chicken dinner was ordered by one of the people at our table and when it came, it was obviously right out of the freezer. It looked just like a frozen dinner. It tasted just like a frozen dinner. We asked the waitress about this and she admitted that it was exactly that. We asked for the manager and he confirmed that it was frozen chicken. When we expressed our displeasure with that info not being on the menu, he didn't seem to care at all. He didn't care at all that we were very unhappy about the entire meal. We left and I've never been back. The entire staff at this restaurant seemed to only care about the 'regulars' that were there. What a nightmare.
