Dainty Maid Bake Shop has been a consistent winner for my family. We've been coming to this bakery for over twenty years and my sister recently chose them for her wedding cake. She selected chocolate and vanilla. The vanilla cake was the best I've ever had, everyone at the reception said the same thing. Oh, and the frosting was beautiful. They usually have a cake-of-the-week, which I think is creative and fun. My family loves to get their cookies. I have heard they have good doughnuts, but I haven't tried them... yet.

The Dainty Maid and Larry are just fantastic. We wanted something that's not typically done by bakeries--we found out it wasn't typical when the other two bakeries began our tastings by telling us that it what we wanted was impossible. Larry, however, immediately told us that it could be done and continued our meeting to develop the idea into what became our cake. He worked with our budget to make the cake appear bigger than we were actually ordering (...magic). On top of Larry's pleasant and helpful demeanor, the wedding cake tasted excellent. The other cakes that we tasted had that same 'wedding cake' taste, but Dainty Maid was set apart in it's fresh flavors. Everybody at the wedding enjoyed the cake as well!

Great bake shop with the best interest of their customers in mind. My fiance and I scheduled a cake tasting here for our wedding and really enjoyed the experience. The French cream frosting is amazing and David was an absolute pleasure to work with. It's beyond refreshing to meet a business owner that genuinely cares about his clients especially in this day and age. We ordered some brownies and cookies before leaving and shared them with family...no one was disappointed! We will definitely be visiting this bakery again.

If you are planning a wedding, this is where you should go to buy the cake. My daughter's wedding cake was absolutely delicious and the service was top notch.

I love the weekly specials. Sometimes you can get an amazing bakery cake for as little as $5. Can't beat that! The TV Bars are my favorite. The white cake ones are excellent too. I love the donuts and danishes too! The banana cake has real banana in the batter and is still a really light cake. Sooo good!

When it comes to gourmet baked goods in South Bend, look no further then Dainty Made! The smell when you walk through the door is intoxicating. This place is definitely a throw back to the donut shops of old. You can skip Krispy Cream, or Stone's Old Fashioned Donuts and head straight for Michigan Street!

Dainty Maid is a South Bend standard. It's a Time travel back into when downtown thrived-- located next to the old "Robertson's" and there were other games in town besides the green ones. For a native you step in and smell one of the best smells of your childhood. Gone are dubious innovations of the last thirty years. Returned are TV bars, powdered sugar, kefles, donuts, all the favorites that you had before you could learn to read and write and type and drive. I like the County Bake shop too which is now on 31 just north of Auten but Dainty Maid is an experience. Go there, buy treats, love it.

Chocolate brownie, white cake piece, and chocolate glazed donut. The cake itself was pretty good, if a bit dense, but the buttercream was a sugarbomb. The chocolate brownie was covered in a "chocolate ganache" that crumbled into shards of sugar. At least the chocolate donut was not overtly bad in any way. But everything tasted like it was made by an aspiring home baker who had yet to learn that sugar =/= better

2 Donuts for $1.50 after 1 PM most days!! Cinnamon twist donut is the best, followed by double chocolate cake donut. Accepts visa and mastercard with no minimum purchase..... i've only ever ran $1.50 though. Parking is pretty easy to find on the street (free). I am going to get fat if I keep going here. Donuts are too good.

I've been getting my annual birthday cake from Dainty Maid for as long as I can remember, and let me tell you - it's something I look forward to the entire year. Not sure I've tried a flavor other than their banana cake with buttercream frosting, but then again, not sure why I'd ever want to venture away from it! Ridiculously delicious and quite possibly the best buttercream I've ever tasted. Next time you're in the market for a cake - birthdays, weddings, random cravings - you should definitely consider stopping in at Dainty Maid's.

Only been here once, but my dear neighbor are here a lot and she gave us a piece of Chocolate cake she brought from Dainty Maid - It was so delicious we had to stop by the next day. Awesome quality! I love that I can have delicious Thai food from Cambodian Thai next door and then stop by Dainty Maid for a fresh made dessert.

I've never had anything else from here besides the donuts, and have never felt a need to change this fact. Their cake donuts in particular are very delicious.

My sister and I went in here when we had some business to take care of downtown. The case seemed somewhat empty, not sure if it was the time of day or what. We decided for old time's sake to have a couple of thumbprint cookies (there was a bakery we lived nearby when growing up in South Bend that made them). Now, notice I said "thumbprint cookies," meaning, yes, they are only slightly larger than the size of a thumbprint. We asked for two of them and were surprised when the woman rang it up and said, "$1.50". Um... ok, $1.50 for THAT? Really? And the taste was OK but not amazing. I knew there was inflation but sheesh, we are not in NYC. Later we explored Baker's Dozen Bake Shop on the west side, who I also noticed is at the Farmer's Market, and their small cookies are.... 5 for a $1. Hmmm. That seemed about right. Still, a friend had some custom cupcakes made by Dainty Maid and they looked like they were done well (I can't comment on the taste or price as they were for a different event and so I didn't sample). So I guess, to each their own...

I was vacationing the week of July 21st 26th in South Bend, Indiana. The birthplace of my existence, and it felt good to be back where it all began. South Bend has changed over the years (for the better); there's been neighborhoods revitalized, building torn down and reconstructions of new establishments everywhere, and change remains on the rise. There are those business establishments that have endured change and withstood the test of time to become and remain a fixture within the community/city. The Dainty Maid Bake Shop is truly one of those establishments. I remember during middle school, I would go to DM sometimes not having a nickel to my name just to inhale the aroma of the freshly bake pastries and then I would leave and go to school. You could smell the scent from the street before walking inside, and it was a welcoming fresh smell that made your mouth water for everything on display. When you're broke you want everything, Coming back to my hometown, I had a plan and a purpose to hit all the places I frequented during my school days and like a child I went for the sweet stuff first. Dainty Maid is located in the same spot in downtown South Bend, and is like an old neighbor to a host of new specialty shops, stores, and restaurants. So I'm in there and the delicate aroma of fresh pastries flowed into my nostrils and I'm wide-eyed looking at an apple fritter, an all-time favorite. There's plenty to see and drool over but that fritter is huge and I just know it's going to be moist and the filling got to be just as good - this is Dainty Maid. Got my Apple Fritter to go; out the door; sun shining bright and walked over to a bench and sat down. Opened the bag an pulled that fritter out and it was every bit of what I expected and satisfying to the last bite, which by the way was gone in at least four bites. I crushed it; and the napkin well I used that to wipe my hands clean after licking the icing off my fingers. Thank you Dainty Maid for staying around bringing back memories and sweetness in my life.

Even at noon on a Saturday we still had a great experience at this bakery. The employee who helped us was very kind in explaining the offerings and prices, as well as being very patient with my indecisiveness due to the fact that I wanted to try everything. My girlfriend and I shared three items: a cream filled maple iced with chocolate sprinkle long john, a petit four, and a peanut butter cookie. This was a great spectral mix for what they had left so late in the day. The donut was very good for not being fresh. The cream was spot on and the maple frosting was to my expectation, full of maple flavor. I will have to come back for some fresh donuts early in the morning. This is only the third different source I have had a petit four from in my short life, and this one was no slouch. These simple but fancy desserts are common for weddings, holiday events, showers, and Saturday afternoon snacks. I'm not a petit four expert but the decadence of the cake and the sugary, gooey icing/fondant that dresses these desserts is truly delightful. The poinsettia frosting flower on top impressed my girlfriend as well. Last but not least, the peanut butter cookie was probably the best peanut butter cookie I have had in a long while. It seemed unassuming in the presentation case, but the flavor punch was all there. A soft cookie with tons of peanut butter flavor. Simply a delightful cookie. I might add that these things were all best consumed with a glass of milk to wash them down. In addition, this bakery had some exciting and festive looking cakes on display as well as some cupcakes that may be worth trying in the future as well. Looking forward to next time.

Best damn donuts I've ever had. Their cake donuts are phenomenal, and yeast donuts are very good. I would have liked a slightly larger selection, but I know they're a full-on bakery, not a Dunkin. The only real "miss" was their strawberry cake donut. Tasted like some kind of cough syrup. But the rest of the donuts we got that day were amazing. I've already gone twice, and will be going again. Street parking is easy, free and plentiful. Nose-in, not parallel.
