I was so grateful to find this place driving to Louisville. I veer away from corn and completely avoid gluten, so I got a fajita plate with the rice and beans at the bottom. It had just the right proportions of veggies and toppings and was enough for two meals. It was savory and felt very nourishing to my traveling belly!

I am so sad that this location does not serve whole Mojarra (tilapia). The other locations do. Other than that, it is your typical Mexican restaurant and the best choice for Sellersberg.

Decent food BUT 'Bait & Switch' is at work here. They run coupons all the time in the mailpaks, which do not have a restriction on use Fri. + Sat, however the restaurant does not honor them on those days - they coyly put a disclaimer in small type near the entrance. We walked away and ate elsewhere, this is wrong, rude and dishonorable. El Nopal should be ashamed and immediately remove the restriction in the Sellersburg location or edit the coupons to be truthful. Beware.

Came for dinner with a colleague. Had a small appetite so just had rice and quesadilla with sopapilla for dessert. Was delicious and good value. Good service too.

My favorite Tex-Mex chain in the area, but the Sellersburg location seems to be a notch above the New Albany and Corydon locations. The owner/manager is super friendly with patrons and always takes a moment during dinner rush to chat with us. Servers are awesome as well. I've never waited more that five minutes for a refill. The food itself is somewhat authentic; very well matched to suit the American palette. My favorite is the chilie relleno, a large pablano pepper stuffed with cheese, dredged in eggs and flour and deep fried to perfection. I also highly recommend dining in on Mondays and Wednesdays when margaritas are only $1.99 each!

El Nopal is pretty consistent, so if you've been to one of their other locations, you can be assured of vitually the same experience. The food is typical, Americanized Mexican fare. El Nopal dishes typically avoid vegetables and there is a heavy emphasis on rice and beans. I've had several very good dishes here, including the Mole enchiladas, quesadilla roja, and chile relleno among them. The chips are fresh and the salsa is alright. They typically have good drink specials; particularly the margaritas. I probably wouldn't seek it out, but if you're in the area, El Nopal is pretty good!

Everything was refreshing from the salsa to the coca cola. But the only problem that we had was that when we ordered my boyfriend told the waitress that he wanted no sour cream in his burrito, and she read it back to him that he wanted it that way. But when the burrito came out there was no enchilada sauce and there was sour cream inside. That was the only problem that we have ever experience with this place. They also have really good beer and spirit prices.

My job has me in Sellersburg for training and I've joined colleagues at El Nopal a few times. I find it adequate, but not something I'd seek out on my own. Their table "salsas" come in two varieties: flavorless tomato sauce and very mild. Fortunately they keep El Yucateco hot sauce on each table, which spices the salsas up nicely. The tortilla chips seem fresh enough, but the tortillas themselves are mass-produced and nothing special. The steak fajitas are okay. The meat was not very well seasoned. While I haven't tried their tacos, I have seen them and the hard shells are laughable; they are pretty much the boxed shells you'd expect to see at Taco Bell or something. The beans and rice are both up to scratch, so that's a plus. I have found one dish at El Nopal that I recommend: the spinach and mushroom quesadilla (#8 on the lunch specials and I think it is called the quesadilla de espinacas elsewhere on the menu). They do not skimp on the mushrooms or spinach and the tortilla is cooked to a nice golden color. In addition to some truly gigantic portions of fountain drinks, they carry bottled coke imported from Mexico and possibly some Jarritos, though I wouldn't swear to it. I don't think they have any aguas frescas. They also carry beer, but since I have only been on lunch breaks, I have not had the opportunity to imbibe.

Probably my favorite lunch spot in Sellersburg. The food is always good, and the lunch specials are cheap and filling. The service is always nice. I happen to love this place. Get the Chicken tortilla soup. yum!

It is consistently good. I had the Monica's, which is chicken, shrimp on rice, covered with cheese. Normally they put a lot of cheese on it, but i had to ask for extra this time. I will go back for sure. Love this place.

I noticed on their site they have a free private room available for larger groups. Called days in advance and reserved it. Arrived day of and they had filled the room with various other parties. They had my name down but didnt save the room for me. No apologies. reminded me of Seinfeld episode re: rental cars. Apparently the reservation meant nothing. We took tables in the bar area and service was great but found the food mediocre compared to other local options.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
