Food is always excellent service is great and fast. Typically expect a wait but it's worth it. For the price you get beyond the amount of food expected.

Can't really say too much about this place because I have only tried one dish for take out. I ordered the "Route 41 omelette" with hash brown potatoes. The staff at the restaurant took my phone order and correctly executed all my special requests both times I ordered. My omelette was fresh and had plenty of cheese and sausage. My route 41 omelette came with three small pancakes and a side of fresh hash brown potatoes. I enjoyed the omelette and potatoes, but the pancakes could be better. The pancakes weren't the best I've eaten, being a little bland even after adding butter. I would say the food is above average for the price. The portions are also pretty good with plenty to eat. I will definitely visit Omelette House the next time I am in Schererville.

After being neglected and ignored by next-door Amarillo's bad service, I decided to come here since it was next door and it was a restaurant...and was redeemed and came in to a very welcoming staff. The place was also busy, which kind of shows that it's a good place. It also has a 90s feel to it. I ordered a deluxe mushroom burger since I decided to get a lunch, with a side of chicken noodle soup. Oh yeah, not to mention their prices, it was about $8 for a big burger (I was on budget). I would definitely come back, maybe try their breakfast next time.

We will be back!!! Family operating, the place was a well oiled machine packed on the Saturday morning we found it. Ten minutes to be seated was so worth the wait. The menu has all the right stuff. Mrs ordered the potato pancakes, I the Mediterranean skillet with buttermilk pancakes. Superior quality ingredients came together for a rare delight. It's rare for me to notice food's texture, unless it hurts the taste. The skillet had fantastic taste, don't misunderstand, but the texture stood out as delightful Come see for yourself

Here's my update as I finally came back! Much better this time! I think the rule is ONLY order breakfast food!! Maybe this is obvious to everyone else ;-) I came alone but they put a nice full pitcher of water on my table with lemon. The waitress was really friendly. It seems to be the norm here, it also appears that free hugs happen!! I saw older people hugging most of the waitresses. Lots of regulars and they are welcomed back with open arms literally. I had an omelette (huge!) with pancakes (huge) instead of toast and hash browns. The omelette was Ham and Cheese but could have used more cheese and slightly over-cooked. Hash browns are crunchy but mainly soft throughout and a little bland. The pancakes were fluffy and thick with a good flavor. The syrup was heated but I do not think it was real maple... just regular syrup. Still tasty nonetheless. The place looks pretty clean which is what I look for out of fear of getting sick. I think I'm very safe. The place is now getting crowded so I'm out!!

The place was packed. Their team did a great job of shuffling people in and out. The portions are huge. I brought home half my omelette. Everything was delicious. Prices very reasonable. Our waitress was amazing, super friendly for how packed it was in there. They constantly filled coffee and soda. Great service, and even better food!

It is pretty difficult to blotch eggs and sausage... Some places are able to even screw this up. I appreciate the helpings and as everyone had mentioned the portion sizes. I can get over decor and service is key. Are there better places to eat? Absolutely, if you want a further drive out. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and typically tops my list on my caloric intake for the day. If you have an appetite this place is for you.

We were seated quickly and the service was very good, we were offered coffee refills often and not just by our server. We checked on frequently once our food arrived and all requests were met fully. I enjoyed the waffle and the country fried steak was good, although the gravy was a bit bland. I did not enjoy the bacon, it was hard and dry. The sausage link was a bit better but not something I would want to eat again. These items were both from the special menu and if tweaked slightly would be much better. The service is so good that I will go back to try some of the regular menu items. And, strangely, it has a drive-through.

Nice small breakfast restaurant. Wasn't the cleanest, nor updated... but the food was great.

We are new to these parts of town so we were quite excited to have found The Omelette House. Food is great and the service is wonderful. The only reason we will not be going back and for the 2 stars is this morning as I was finishing my breakfast. I still had a half a plate of pancakes in front of me, as I was talking to my husband and enjoying my breakfast that not a few minutes earlier the waitress had asked if I was finished and I had said no I am still eating Thank you. The waitress took the plate right from in-front of me before I could even say anything! They were starting to get a little bit of a crowd but nothing that I should not have been able to finish my breakfast. But that is fine there are plenty of other restaurants to pick from. We will not be back at the omelette house unless it is our last choice which I really do not think that is going to ever happen.

Very cramped for space and slow, stodgy service. Decor is 1960's style truck stop. I ordered a pecan waffle with maple syrup. I specifically asked for maple syrup. I was brought a so-so waffle with a few pecans mixed in and cheap imitation fake crap syrup. Look folks: pancakes and waffles really only exist because it is socially unacceptable to drink maple syrup and melted butter straight up. When I specifically ask for maple syrup, bring it to me. I sent it back. I was told that "no one serves real maple syrup because it's too expensive." This of course is not only not true but is a lame excuse. Maybe it costs more. Charge me for it, I want the good stuff. I waited for a replacement meal of eggs and hash browns. I waited. Everyone else at the table finished. We all waited some more. To their credit, my replacement breakfast was two well-prepared eggs and tasty hash browns. They also threw in a generous helping of ham which had good flavor, but I could tell was store-bought. The rye bread toast was right out of the grocery store. I've experienced better. A lot. And this place was nothing special on the things they did right. Next time I'll look for a different breakfast house.

Good breakfast/Brunch place, big portions too. Here's the skinny: The Big Kahuna - eat it. Long wait on Sundays Fast on coffee refills Non Smoking Here's the fat: The Big Kahuna is pretty damn awesome. Imagine your breakfast favorites stacked up into a massive house of amazazing. Ham, Pancakes, French Toast.... all that. Sunday mornings have long wait times, mainly because of the church crowd I think. Still worth it though, our longest wait was about 15-20 minutes. The waitresses always seem to come around with coffee... it's kinda nice not seeing the bottom of my up. It is a Non-Smoking establishment, full non-smoking. There's no "Smoking Section" thanks to Indiana's public smoking laws. SYOY

Great breakfast food restaurant. I haven't tried their lunch menu. I got bacon waffles and they were really good. I would have liked a ridiculous amount of bacon in there instead of just in the middle. That would have made it even better ;) small place so plan on waiting if you go on the weekend. Not really a place to go if you have a large group.

This place was awful, all the good reviews are clearly from Indiana people who don't venture into Chicago much. We went here instead of the Cracker Barrel which was my first choice, for Mother's Day breakfast. It was crowded, of course, because it was Mother's Day. I ordered the pancakes and they were not buttermilk tasting in the least, they were the gross, cheap, sweet, Kruszteaz-tasting pancakes. Sure the helpings were big, but unremarkable. The hash browns were greasy, not crispy or browned at all. I guess the one good thing is that they're cheap. So hey, if you want a lot of cheap, bleh breakfast food, this is your place.

This is definitely a 5-star restaurant --- FOR THE PRICE. You get nicely crisp bacon, eggs made right to order, waffles browned and perfectly textured (not soggy, not burnt). And the coffee is what I'd call Diner Classic -- done well. The place is clean. Service is fast, friendly, and very attentive. My coffee cup was never less than half-full unless I wanted it that way. There's nothing more you could want, again, for the price. Some of the other reviewers are off-base in their expectations of Downtown Chicago decor or 100% natural syrups or whatever. That's just not paying attention to the whole situation. The place is great, and I'm not alone in believing that, as it can get quite crowded. Even still, the staff does a great job moving people in and out efficiently. Highly recommended!

Huge portions! Terrific pricing. Very efficient, courteous, friendly service. Wide variety of breakfast, brunch, and lunch items. Convenient to Webb Hyundai---just south a bit on Indianapolis Blvd. Ideal stop for food before returning to Chicago. Tip --- right across from McDonald's Washrooms are very clean Private lot makes parking easy! Easy to put together a heart healthy meal at this place.

Best breakfast place in the area! Great food, great price and really good service. My husband loved the big Kahuna which is extremely filling and well priced. There is always a little bit of a wait but it's worth it for the delicious breakfast. Family owned and you can tell cause they are always there and super friendly. This is always my first choice when going out for breakfast!

Breakfast places seem to be a dime a dozen around our area, but this place does breakfast as it should be done! Menu is stuffed with goodies - all the favorites are there: Pancakes, omelettes, skillets, waffles, etc. I frequented Sophia's breakfast place in Highland, and it definitely has similar items and flavors.

This place is great! Quick service, reasonable prices, and a wait staff that is friendly and attentive. My wife and I eat at the Omelette house at least once (sometimes twice) a week. Our favorite server is Sandy. She is literally the best waitress my wife and I have EVER had. She make this place very special to us.

Hello, FOOD SNOB here, Came here on a Saturday Morning. The 15 minute wait was well worth it. This place knows breakfast. Great Skillets, Delicious Omelets. Tasted the Pigs in the blanket, good sausage with fluffy pancake wrapped around it. Place was packed. Food is fresh and very good Quality. The place just opened a couple months ago. Ignore the $$$ signs on the info. My Skillet was just over $ 6.00. PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE.

Stopped here on Sunday morning looking for breakfast. First impression of this place was that it's small. As we walked in we were asked how many and our names put on a list, yes they were packed, but we waited all of maybe 4 minutes. I'll admit though we were next on the list the people who came in behind us waited a bit longer than we did. The wait was worth it, Our waitress Sandy came by within a few second of us being seated. A person came by to set up the table, and the waitress brought our coffee, as well as a pitcher of water and a plate of sliced melon ( complimentary). We thought that was nice touch especially if your going out with kids, gives them something to munch of while you wait. We ordered right away, hubby had a Mexican omelette and I had a Virginia Skillet, the omelette was huge, potatoes done to perfection and my hubby loved it. The skillet also was huge, 3 eggs, generous portion of potatoes, bacon, cheese mixed with garlic and chives....it was delicious. Our coffee never ran empty, Sandy stopped by several times to check in on us, always with a pleasant smile and kind words. Pro big generous portions for a good price. The only Con we could find to this place is that is is small, and you might have to wait a bit to get seated. I read some of the other comments before I posted about being rushed to leave,we felt none of that. Our meal was completed and we were offered more coffee, and she left our ticket telling us to take our time and we could pay at the front when we were ready to leave. There were people waiting on tables at the time as well, so maybe that is something they have improved on since the previous reviews.

DELICIOUS!!! I stopped by this quaint little place for a nice breakfast with my family and left fully satisfied. The place is family-owned and they really make you feel like you are one of the family! The food was great! I had the Big Kahuna and it was a challenge to eat it all. From the french toast to the pancakes to the ham, bacon, sausage, and eggs, this was a culinary feast! The omelettes are great too! There is a wide selection that seemed to please everyone at my table! Try it out and support yet another great local business! I hope this place is around a long time! Also, call ahead and pick up your order via the drive-thru window...yes, you heard me correctly. It's perfect for those of us that want a great breakfast and don't want to get out of the car...just make sure you call ahead because it's not 'fast food' breakfast.

We have lived in Highland for a year and we feel silly that we never went here until today. What a wonderful find. Yes it's just breakfast but when breakfast is good, it's good and Omelette House is good.

One thing our area has is a lot of breakfast choices, and this is always my first choice. I order to go at least once every two weeks, as the drive through pick-up allows me to stay in my jammies and no one knows the better. The building was once a Burger King and so the size is the same as inside a BK. My family loves breakfast from this restaurant - and yes, the only one that would compare is Sophia's in Highland as another reviewer stated. When the family comes together and dines inside which happens every few months, our group of 6 doesn't have to wait very long for a table. The food is served ultra fast, the portions are plenty, and I usually order the vegetarian omelette or skillet, which always is loaded with veggies. Some of the other items we order are the fresh fruit belgium waffles, the works omelette, and potato pancakes which are also delicious. The staff is always the same, and always very accommodating, smiley, and quick with the coffee refills. It isn't a big city restaurant, but Schererville isn't big city even in your dreams! I hope in the future they move into a larger building and include dinner.

Easily the greatest breakfast spot in NW Indiana. The menu options are a nice change from just the same old omelets and eggs. The skillets are all original and definitely tasty. The Virginia Skillet is the best skillet ever created. The service was also extraordinary. We were pleasantly surprised because driving past it just looks like a basic breakfast joint. Can't wait to go back.

The Omelette House was a refreshing change from the usual breakfast grind at all the other local Greek restaurants. The dining area was small, clean, and smoke free. The food was nothing spectacular but very affordable. I really like the almost open concept kitchen. When one thinks of the usual region breakfast stop, one has most likely heard horror stories of unsanitary kitchens. This place leaves nothing to the imagination and lets you get an fairly open view of their clean, organized kitchen. The service was friendly and accommodating. The only real reason this place does not get a higher rating is that I can't rate a breakfast diner at the same level as some of the local Italian restaurants. Overall, it is what it is..and it was pretty good.

I have to say my test of a good breakfast house is their crepes. I was very disappointed with these. The crepes were thick and heavy and had an awful rancid oil taste. Yuck. My side order of scrambled eggs was OK, but the fans and air movement was so strong that they were cold in about two minutes. My daughters Mickey Mouse pancake was a crappy representation of the famous mouse. My husbands skillet, according to him was good in that the potatoes and meat were well done and not undercooked as some restaurants tend to do. I will not be going back as I have indigestion while I'm writing this.
