Finally back in Richmond for the day, and the guys at the shop wanted to know what's for lunch.. SUBNROLL without a doubt. The Chinese and Vitimese food is solo much better than what's available in Oxford.. Please open a location in Oxford :)

The only restaurant I could find in Richmond that provides noodle with soup. I like the noodle in the special Pho, but the beef is too thick and not pre-processed. Not as good as what I had in VA.

If you are looking for something other than the chain restaurants that line Main Street in this quaint town, hit this place up! We stopped here at 8:30 pm on a Monday night, only one other table was occupied. We ordered the tofu delight and crispy chow mein vegetables. Large portions of fresh vegetables and delicious sauces was just what we needed to fill our bellies after a long drive and less-than-exciting car snacks. Very impressed by this humble establishment and look forward to stopping again if our travels bring us here. My husband says that it's evident that they take pride in their cooking if they come out of the kitchen to ask how everything tastes. So pleased with every bite!

A modest venue and name for this establishment does not do justice to it's magnificent cuisine. Fresh ingredients cooked perfectly and presented beautifully as a heaping portion still makes a yummy impression in my belly hours later. I had the crispy chow mein and would have it again in a heart beat. The staff was super friendly and one of the chefs passed through the dining room to ask how his food was being enjoyed; I appreciate that.

I was in town doing some work and very hungry. We saw the restaurant as we went into downtown - I enjoyed a chicken pho and pot stickers - they were very crispy hot and good and the pho was yummy and hot on an April day so cold my fingers had turned purple. The broth was warm and tasty and the lady was like a kind mother - she showed me how to add sprouts and sauces - very clean place - including restrooms will go back if have a chance - Richmond in general impressed me

Giddy. 100% giddy. Pho in Richmond, Indiana? Say it isn't so! First a Thai place- now a Vietnamese joint? It's like...like a real city. With fun and ethnic offerings in the midst of rural Indiana. The clouds have opened and horizons are about to be broadened. The uphill battle for this business? An unsuspecting building off the beaten path. But, anyone who's smart will go out of their way to find it. My highlights/recommendations: -The cheapest spring rolls I've ever encountered. 4 full size rolls for around $3---such a steal. I opted for the veggie tofu - spot on! (Let's just say I eat these rice paper treats on the weekly) -delicious chicken pho with great broth (as you may know, the broth is the key to a winning bowl of pho). For those new to pho- it is like the Vietnamese version of chicken noodle soup (variety of meat options available) with rice noodles, jalapeños, line wedges, Thai basil and bean sprouts. If you like an extra kick- Siracha. Extra flavor- hoisin sauce. Lastly, the owners are super sweet and trying to get the word out. So please do this new local business a favor (however, it's more of a favor to yourself) and pay a visit ASAP.

I was in Richmond for a day trip and was surprised to drive by Sub N Roll and see Banh Mi as a feature. I pulled in excitedly and ordered the Chicken Banh Mi. The sandwich was amazing. Large, almost a foot long, toasted just right, fresh veggies and herbs and a wonderful sauce that pulled it all together. What a surprise. Living in Indianapolis, we have many choices for Banh Mi, but this little shop in Richmond beats any I have tried yet. Way to go, keep them coming and I may make the 87 mile trip just to get one in the future!

The food there is good and cheap... I like the pho, especially the soup... It's just really nice that Richmond has this little nice Asian restaurant, which tastes authentic:)

What a great surprise! Sub n roll has some pretty authentic Vietnamese flavors in an unexpected environment. I don't like the menu - at all - but I understand where the owners are coming from in trying to dumb it down for folks maybe not accustomed to this kind of cuisine. It's a shame they feel it's necessary, as it's probably not. I was there for lunch on a Thursday and it was bumping. At least they're not dumbing down the flavors! I had a relatively authentic chicken banh mi. It was flavorful and delicious, and the bread was soft buy chewy. Really fresh and good. Egg rolls are filled with a mix of pork, shrimp, maybe chicken? Tasty! The building is a little strange, clearly still set up from its previous life, but the new owners are making good use of the space. I heard an older lady ask for a carryout menu, and the gentleman working the counter told her it was at facebook.com/subandroll.… , which isn't quite right - but close. It would probably be even better if they invested a few bucks in having a carryout menu printed. There's little chance that lady's going to facebook for the menu - she just won't order instead. Hope these guys stick around - it's quite good.

Great Vietnamese food! Horrible company name though. Lost in translation.

Fantastic, authentic, delicious pho. I'm so happy this place is in Richmond. Fresh spring rolls were serviceable, a bit light on the greenery for my taste but the dipping sauce was excellent. And the house special pho was out of this world (as long as you aren't scared of tendon and tripe). So, so good!

WOW! 10 minutes from the highway and well worth it. This is super high quality pho - the kind you'd find in NYC or San Fran. A real Vietnamese family who give it their all Allan is the head chef and he puts his heart into every second of the 9 hours it takes to make the best pho. Fresh veggies and great service. Heck, I'd drive an hour out of my way to come back. Thank you Allan!!

The Banh Mi sub was absolutely divine, and I am getting two every time in the future so I can have one for work the next day. The variety on the menu is astounding and the prices on most items are very reasonable. My 6-year-old daughter got the fries because she wasn't that hungry, and they were seriously some of the best fries I have ever had. Seriously, extremely tasty with no added salt or condiments. We will be going here a few times a month. LOVED IT!

I still eat the pho at least once a week for lunch. I've started ordering the chicken pho and taking the chicken out. Weird, I know, but I'm on a healthier eating kick, and though the soup is delicious, the chicken is not at all impressive, so I figure why waste foodspace with something I don't really like. *shrug* The beef pho is better, but the chicken pho is a-ok, too. I also finally had the spring rolls. They were very good- fresh and crispy green and delightful. I didn't like the dipping sauce at all; I just dip mine in sriracha. I will certainly be adding them to my chickenless pho lunches. ^_^

In a sea of bad chain restaurants, this is a life preserver of absolute deliciousness. Beef banh mi is perfectly prepared, stir fry is decent (could use some more seasoning) and egg rolls are okay. Still, for this location I couldn't be happier - and the banh mi are excellent!

I'm so happy that this place has opened and was not disappointed just like my fellow yelpers. All I have ordered has been the Pho and every time I'm completely satisfied. I absolutely love Pho now and am a fan of both the beef and chicken. They can be a little slow with service here but the food more than makes up for the wait. The place is clean and plenty of seating as well. So hopeful they can make it here!

They're Vietnamese food is excellent. They just launched Chinese food and lo and behold they have the best Chinese in Richmond. Definitely try the Mongolian beef. And of course try the varieties of pho!

It's easy to overlook this place as it is set next to a nail salon and items like a $2.99 hamburger are on the menu. But the food is good, fresh, and fairly priced. I'm found of the grilled chicken and vermicelli noodles but I've heard the pho is amazing too. It's a great place for lunch or takeout.

Spotlessly clean and with a courteous and friendly staff, this Vietnamese restaurant is worth going out of your way to visit. I do not live in the area, was passing through on my travels, and fortunately Yelped this place during a stop. I am a Pho fanatic, and their Pho is among the best I've had. Wish they were in my home town.

I have written reviews for this Vietnamese restaurant in little old Richmond, IN in other venues but feel compelled to continue reviewing in Yelp as it seems that this restaurant continues to evolve. First a correction on a reviewer's remarks about American food in this establishments. Their subs are not American at all: homemade bread, stuffed with vegetables and various meats. The new one is the fish sub, which I had last week. Sign me up for more! The piece of fish was huge and all the condiments on it were marvelously exotic, most assuredly Vietnamese. Their menu has increased by 10 times since opening day. They have added a tofu appetizer, which is a crunchy piece of tofu enveloped in a cucumber thinly sliced that one dunks in a peanut sauce. Absolutely divine and a welcome addition to the already existing appetizers: spring rolls, soft rolls, etc. They have added several plates since my last review, but the real stand out is the Vietnamese riff on Pad Thai. One may have a choice of shrimp, chicken, or beef. And it was a spectacular dish with two kinds of noodle, a wonderful mixture of onions and bean sprouts in a brown peanuty sauce just a little over that side of heaven. Advice: PUT on the menu 3 OR 4 VEGETARIAN DISHES for the younger crowd. Lastly, American food. Why is it that it takes someone NOT of this country to do our food well? Sub and Roll has chicken wings, hamburgers, and french fries. I normally don't eat french fries but these had to have been the best fries I have ever had second to Taste's in Indianapolis, and they call them Frites. Sub n Roll's fries must also be a riff on real French fries as opposed to the normal freedom fries normally served in most establishments. Lastly, I would like to make a plea for support from our community for this place. It is the kind of authentic food venue that makes real, fresh, crispy, to order food in a serious wasteland of fast food places and mediocre chain restaurants. Our community needs more choices likes this one. If you were ever a supporter of small businesses, this is your call to action. Tell your friends. It is delicious and well worth it!

Don't let the casual atmosphere throw you off. This little place has great food. Everything is scratch made (including their sub rolls) and some of the best food I have eaten. The Pho, which is a soup of tender beef or chicken with noodles in a homemade broth and condiments of Thai basil, cilantro, lime and homemade pickled jalapeños and carrots is just the best. The chicken curry is the best comfort food- not spicy, but with big chunks of potato, carrot, and chicken. The chicken sub is amazing- a fresh toasted bun with tangy homemade pickled cucumber, thin radish slices and carrot with crispy chopped chicken and fresh lettuce. My mouth is watering! Go! You will love it!

It's a most interesting place. Of course, having a VietNamese restaurant in such a town is a surprise, unlike nail salons. I arrived with memories of Red Barn since Red Barn was in this building before McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's were in town. I was surprised to see a menu with simple choices. Maybe, it's a better way to introduce VietNamese food to Richmond. They serve Banh Mi but call them subs. They have fried rice, spring rolls, and egg rolls. The chicken noodle soup is made like Pho but had Japanese Udon noodles instead of the vermicelli you would normally get. (This will change back to the rice vermicelli.) To top it off, they have many lovely baked items, coffee, and smoothies. I got the Chicken Noodle soup dinner, which included 2 egg rolls and a medium drink for (I believe) $8.55 with tax. It seems a lot until I noticed that the noodle soup had not only chicken but sausage and shrimp. (On a second trip, I had the spring rolls and they were quite good, although I avoided the peanut dipping sauce, due to my allergy.) I can't say that anything was loaded with flavor. It was good and thankfully, not greasy. They should probably add a Tom Yum-based noodle soup. The egg rolls weren't bad though 1 spring roll would have been a better option for me. The owner sent me a message saying that spring rolls were added as an option, as were french fries. It's not bad and beats Linh's in Dayton for taste and it's better than any place I tried in Orlando's VietNamese community. I hope it becomes successful. We need variety here. The male staffer at the counter was quite friendly. A female staffer came out into the dining room and talked to everyone else but me. Maybe, she doesn't like Asians. On my second trip, I met the VietNamese people who apparently are the owners. They're quite friendly and want to please. They seem willing to make changes, and would like to add additional menu items as they become more established. Allen brought me a couple of their cookies, one with chocolate chips. They seem more like cake than cookies, fluffy on the inside, and not American sweet but with a good balance of taste--the French influence on VietNam. I had a sub sandwich/banh mi and it was quite good. I think the combination is a lot more healthy than going to Pizza King or Penn Station but will probably be unsettling for most people, if they're expecting American-style sandwiches. The grilled beef with carrots and green peppers was more like most people would have on a plate than on bread. Oh, and the bread, was glorious. I hate bread but on a few occasions, I find bread I like, Philadelphia's Amoroso bakeries, for example. This was good bread. The sub was good, but whether non-VietNamese will like it is a question. Open to new things? Try each item on the menu at least once.

Yummy Yummy This place is amazing. I live in NY and was visiting Richmond and came across this amazing place. OMG So good, even better than some of the shops in NYC! I would happily come here again. Everything we ordered was super.. I love vietnamese food so this place is a super treat.. I am not crazy about the decor and design as it looks like a fast food place but other than that woo hooo.. yummy!

Love this place! Everything here is good! The name requires some work and doesn't really give out a Vietnamese vibe :(

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
