Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This review is based solely on one menu item: the enchiladas en mole. I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico and have eaten mole in many regions. I have also eaten mole at many restaurants in Chicago, many of which are known for their mole. (I know those last couple of sentences make me sound like kind of an a-hole, but it's true [not the a-hole part, but the part about having eaten lots of mole]). Leroy's Hot Stuff served the best mole I have ever eaten. It had a complex, yet subtle flavor and was delicious. My boyfriend ordered a steak burrito and wasn't too impressed with it. It was filled with steak, green peppers, and onions and had melted cheddar cheese on top. We thought it was an odd preparation/ingredient choice for a burrito. The mole, however, was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. No exaggeration. If you find yourself at Leroy's Hot Stuff, do yourself a favor and cover everything you order in their homemade mole sauce.

Not the greatest ambience, but we came here to try the food. We were not disappointed. The steak taco was tender and had a great flavor. We will be back to try something else.

The food is good, I have eaten here a few times and have never had anything I haven't liked. Stopped in and had a couple of beers because I heard they had Beltaine from Michigan City's Shoreline Brewery on tap. They also had Zombie Dust from Three Floyd's Brewery in Munster on tap and several bottled beers from Three Floyd's.

If you are a smoker then you will love this place. You don't even need to light up. The second hand smoke will keep you going all night. People with breathing problems need to avoid this place at all costs. No ventilation at all. Opening a window did not help. First time I came here there was a hair in my salad and the chicken tacos were a mix of white and dark meat (don't like dark meat). Not impressed with the food but there are people out there that love it. I won't be back, not even to see one of my favorite bands.

Best Mexican in the area! I love the steak tacos but will also get pork sometimes. Great beer variety, good chips and salsa, friendly servers.

Coming from a part of the country where one can spend upwards of $25 for sub-par Mexican food, discovering Leroy's was a solid reminder that one can pay less and get a lot more (quality and quantity). One might not expect such a revelation in what looks like a roadside dive, but don't be fooled: the food is excellent. Get anything with mole on it (chicken enchiladas are great), try the guac, and pair it all with a big glass (or two) of whatever your server recommends on tap.

I absolutely love this place. It's got that dive bar/biker bar feel but with excellent Mexican food. Do not be intimidated by the crustyness of its "hole in the wall" look on the side of route 20, it's most definitely a friendly and inviting place inside with excellent service. I had the sope dinner with pork and melted cheese on top. First off, the sopes were cooked to perfection. They were light and crispy and filled to the top with a very generous portion of meat. Next was the beans, I'll have to say some of the best refried beans I have had in quite some time. Full of flavor and not bland and out if a can. I will say the rice was so-so, tasty but nothing special. We also a a big bowl of guacamole, chips were good but the guac could have used some salt. Overall great experience good cheap beer and great Mexican food!

The yelp location is on the wrong side of 49! Food is alright no one under 21! Kind of a Dive. No one under 21 is allowed inside. In one weekend we saw a Leroy's food truck at two fairs. I guess it is somewhat of an institution. Wait staff was very friendly. Food was alright, at 8PM on a Friday it was one of the few places on Yelp. They have live music sometimes, and it was not too bad. If you did not know you can smoke in bars in IN, but the dining room is smoke free.

This place created the standard against which I judge all the Mexican food I eat-- and I am constantly trying new places around NYC where I live and NJ where I'm a grad student. I stopped by the place on the way back from a conference-- **amazing** chicken enchiladas with mole sauce, guacamole-- with a fabulous soup to start and a VERY reasonable bill. Casual and welcoming atmosphere, bustling bar, and extremely friendly and courteous service. I wish there were more places like this on the east coast!!

Horrible service. I always get ignored when I come (is it because I'm a female?) they "forgot" to put in my order. Anytime I need a drink I have to go up to the bar to order it myself. Definitely won't be returning.

Terrible experience waitress seemed to be beside herself couldn't handle more then 1 table at a time & there was not that people there on the resturant side ordered water & a drink & our food 20 mins later no drinks instead she comes to the table empty handed telling us the cook didn't show up & all they can offer us is tacos we left will never go back

OK, feel like I was taken advantage of. Got take out, on my way home. According to the reviews its going to be tasty. Ordered a $5.50 Burrito with steak. The menu I was given said nothing about an extra charge for steak. Got my bill and was charged $8.00 for my Burrito. When I asked the server about the $8.00 she said it was for the steak. It was not on my menu but on a menu she had in the back. Really, going back to Chipolte next time. Headed over to yellow page to share my disappointment.

Juicy flavorful steak taco! I was superbly impressed. I ordered this a la carte for $2.50. Also got the combo plate of sopa, enchilada, & toastada w/ rice and beans. Table chips and watery not spicy salsa (more like tomato paste & hint of cilantro water.) ... Just try the taco! Plenty of food and surprisingly delicious authentic Mexican food despite the American dive bar feel. Came here cinco de mayo dinner time and people were belching karaoke like it was their Pt job, every Monday. People smoke here... And it smells like poo dollar. I smoke occasionally but I don't like inhaling a room full of it. Welcome to Indiana!

Leroy's has a great vibe and great food. It seems to be mostly patronized by regulars/locals, and is not at all touristy or seedy. The housemade salsa is very good and definitely try the veggie tacos - the guacamole is excellent! I only wish that they didn't allow smoking inside - it's gross to smell like smoke at the end of the evening, and makes me less likely to want to go out. This isn't really specific to Leroy's but to every place in Indiana - but definitely keeps all IN restaurants/bars out of the 5-star category.

Not bad...service was ok. Food was decent, I'm married to a Mexican so I'm very picky about Mexican food. Was very surprised about the authentic flavor. I've had better but this place was a pleasant surprise.

steak anything this place is nw indiana clasic been going here for 20 years

The chips and salsa are awesome. I really like their sour cream too. I haven't had too much food off the menu because usually I'm there to sing karaoke. Billy is there on Tuesdays and Thursday nights and has the best selection of karaoke songs in the area. His system is good, he has cordless mics and always draws a crowd!

Dive bar with great food. Get so much more than youd acctually expect. Love coming here

Quite simply the best steak tacos in the free world. The Mexican is fantastic here, and the best in the area by far. Te amo Leroy's!!! Don't miss the breakfast either. Viva el steak taco!

We were driving back from Chicago this weekend and discovered Leroy's Hot Stuff. The taco shells appeared to be homemade (not the tortilla itself, but the taco), at least they were fresh from the oil when we got them. I ordered the Taco Dinner - two hard shell tacos with ground beef, beans and rice. I have never seen tacos stuffed to the brim with meat like this before. The cheese, lettuce and tomato basically sat on top of the tacos, because they were entirely stuffed with beef. I was stuffed and didn't quite finish the beans and rice. The beans were outstanding - salty, but oh so good. My husband ordered beef flautas, which were also fresh out of the oil. He devoured those as well and was happy with his selection. The chips were delicious, the salsa was OK. Not the best salsa I've ever had, but not horrible either. People watching was top-notch, but smoking inside the building is still allowed in Indiana, which is why this has a four star review instead of five. Advice for the newbies - you seat yourselves, so don't wait around for someone to seat you. There isn't a sign, but you'll certainly get looked at by the regulars if you stand around waiting, like we did. We'll definitely be back to Leroy's and maybe we'll leave with a hat decked out with flames on it too.

Leroy's isn't the seedy biker bar I expected, but it wasn't too far off. It would be a shame not to include laid-off steelworkers and 21 1/2 year old community college nursing students cruising dudes in "blues" bands. The service is friendly, but it takes a while to get it. If you plan to sit anywhere but the bar, be prepared to walk up to the bar anytime you need anything. The food is good, but not great. As far as Mexican goes, I've had much better. Finding both Berriweiss and RC Cola in the same place are a little more difficult. For this, I give them two additional stars.

There is no place, and I seriously mean NO PLACE in the area to get great, fresh, authentic and exciting Mexican food than Leroy's Hot Stuff!!! It is by far some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. Hacienda? Joke. El Bracero? Bigger joke. Leroy's Hot Stuff? THE REAL DEAL! A perfect candidate for the show Diners, Drive Ins and Dives!!!! Looking forward to my next meal there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where else can you go to get AMAZING mexican food and also get: -cheap beer -soup AND salad -chips, salsa, and a GIANT bowl of sour cream -bikers ?? The answer is: nowhere. Except for Leroy's. Love it. Love it. Love it. Eat the burrito.

I was pleased to find this place on my way back from the dunes a few years back. Cool concept. A mexican restaurant / biker bar roadhouse. They have a long bar, stage, pool tables, and a dancefloor area, as well as a separate dining room. Very laid back and friendly crowd. The food is somewhat americanized, but still very good. I am in love with the relish trays they have there, particularly the pickled carrot, onion, & jalapeno stuff. Nice draft beer selection, although berry weiss wouldn't be my personal choice to fill my taps out, but to each their own.

First off that girl below...I appologize that you were unhappy with Leroys the one time you went there...for everyone else this is a Family owned mexican restraunt with super sweet owners. The Flores family is very laid back and if you have any problems feel free to ask for Leroy Flores himself. He is a very easy going guy. The food is all homemade authentic food. It is delicious. Most of the people in this bar/restraunt tend to be regulars...once you go in there once you tend to stick around however we find that due to the outter look many new commers pass it up mistaking it for a biker bar which it is far from...the only bikers in there are the same ones coaching football and cheerleading for CPW haha. They are just regulars that are extremely sweet and friendly!
