Stopped for quick lunch and the food was rather good and reasonably priced. Staff is very friendly and it was clear they attract many regulars.

I stopped here with my mother and grandmother after visiting my grandfather newly relocated at the nursing home down the street. It had been a tough day for all of my family, and Tate's was a great relief. We stopped on Wednesday when they do a buffet. They had home cooked-style ham, italian beef, fried chicken, gnocchi, fried shrimp, salad, bread, various desserts and more... Comfort food to the max. There did seen to be some hiccups with the staff (who was taking care of what and where - like no one being at the cash register for people to pay). Overall, we will likely stop at Tate's again.

This is an all around great spot. Tate's is absolutely one of the best Breakfast/Brunch spots in the area. The staff is always welcoming, knowledgeable and more than willing to accommodate you however they can. The food is always fresh and prepared remarkably well. The ONLY downside to Tate's is the parking-lot, it's pretty bad. It wouldn't be a big deal but the dirt parking-lot really doesn't treat leather shoes well.

We've gone to Tates for years, but today brings our experience to an end! After watching a waitress with auburn hair, parted down the middle, medium length, cut and handle cake and pie with her bare hands, lick frosting off her fingers, stick her fingers into her mouth, wipe her nose with her fingers, then serve diners without so much as a thought for washing her hands-that was it! Complained to cashier and another waitress-they would not say anything to the pig, "Not my place!" Asked for manager- "Not here!" Asked for phone number, "Don't have!" Most disgusting, filthy service I've seen in 20 years!

Ok so Tate's is close to my house and I sometimes come here for breakfast. I would give it a 3.5 stars and it is definitely the best breakfast place in Portage. I normally just get a omelette or one of there skillets. Today I got Irishman omelette which is was a 3 egg omelette with corned beef hash paired with Swiss cheese. The omelettes with different options but I got hash browns and wheat toast. Gotta say this omelette was really subpar. The corned beef really tasted that it came out of a can even though I've heard they mad there own and the hash browns weren't really good either. I have had good omelettes here but the Irishman was not a very good choice. Overall I really do like Tate's the service is normally pretty good and so is the food. You get a decent breakfast for under ten bucks. They also give you huge portions for the price I just need to explore the menu a little more.

The food and waitress was great! However, the hostess ignored my boyfriend and I when we walked in and then again when we went to pay. You could definitely tell she's not working for tips. I'll probably return though.

The floor is carpeted and is covered in gross stains. Not sure why you would carpet a restaurant... I ordered dessert last time I was there and saw two waitresses inspecting it to determine if it was "still good." They served it to me anyway. Also, the food is inconsistent here.

Nothing spectacular. Simple menu, simple place. If you're looking for somewhere to go with your parents or grandparents, this would be the place to go.

Stopped here a couple of weeks ago during a family bike ride. We sat outside under some big beautiful trees and ate our lunch. I ordered the Buff & Blue Salad which was great! There was just the right amount of chicken and the dressing was really good! The waitress kept our drinks coming! My son & daughter ordered the BLT and they both said it was tasty! Had a lot of bacon on it! I can't wait for our next bike ride so we can eat here again!

Great tasting food and service. Nice sized portions too. Outdoor seating is nice as well.

Tate's is near my in-laws and they like to bring us here when we visit. It's a nice place with a "mom and pop" type vibe. We've only been on weekends and they're always busy, but the service is VERY quick. The waitresses are attentive but they don't hover. The food is pretty average... not bad, but not great. I ordered the cinnamon roll for the first time and was disappointed. It was huge but dry. We went around 10am, so I expected it to be fresher. 3 stars for the food; an extra star for the consistently good service.

Very cute restaurant in a super cute town. The service was great! Everyone that works here was very nice. The food was also very good. We sat inside but, noticed a cute patio outside.

Busy breakfast place on the weekend, they are pretty good about seating & serving quickly. Food portions are pretty big & everyone loved the food.
