Fast BBQ. Tastes good, costs a little more than I would have expected.

My wife and I tried it out for the first time and it was very good. The service lacked a little when we were there but all of the food tasted great. If u like famous Dave's u will like this place!

Some advice: Research the daily specials before going if you're watching your cash. Stay away from the free ice cream. Don't arrive when they're about to close. The staff here are always great; quick and polite. The restaurant itself is clean and don't leave without trying all of the sauces if you're a sauce person! Last time I was there, we got a family meal and it was enough for four plus leftovers for all of us for the next few days. The meat wasn't great alone, but tasted pretty good with the sauce. I like this place and I'll be back!

The food here is lousy. For a place with its own smoker you would imagine the food would be good but it is not. All the sides are served luke warm and almost always the place is dirty. It takes forever to get your food and then you have to add your sides at another area. By the time you add the sides and cash out your meat selection is already cold. The meats are not served with BBQ sauce. That's in a squeeze bottle sitting on a less than sanitary counter off to the side of the food area. Do yourself a favor and try somewhere else. You will be disappointed here!

After living in TX I was so happy to here of a BBQ joint in the area. What a disappointment!!!! Who ever runs the pit should be fired!!!! No beer at a BBQ joint? That is like Thanks giving without turkey. I will say the prices/portions are fair. There are 2 family owned BBQ joints in Hobart that blow this place away, but no beer either. Must be a Hoosier thing.

Popped in with the wife to test the waters...have read some review that made me leery. I ordered the pulled pork special, while my wife decided on the kids meal of chicken nuggets (she didn't have much of an appetite that night). I chose baked beans and mac and cheese as the sides. The pulled pork was quite moist, a good temperature, and not overly smokey. It wasn't salty either and came 'bare' meaning no sauce. The nuggets were hot, as were the waffle fries. We both agreed that the food tasted fresh, was a good portion size, and was above average. We will return! Would like to try the beef next time. The free ice cream had a weird, candy-like flavor that neither of us really liked very much.

I eat here about once every two months and I love it. As far as fast food restaurants go it is on the top end for me. The only competition in Portage would be Panda Express or Taco Bell. They greet you as you come in. The turkey is great and the waffle fries, coleslaw, and Ice-tea. They have ice cream that comes with the meal and until recently pickles but the pickles disappeared. The best thing is they are polite and kind the worst part is there is inevitably a couple flies flying around the last couple times I have been in there.

The only reason I ate at Dickey's is because I had a coupon for a free sandwich with the purchase of a large drink, and also my coworkers thinks its one of the best restaurants ever. However, I would have to disagree with them. When I walked in, I really like the southern feel of the restaurant and it was really clean. It was my first time there so I was unsure of what type of sandwich I wanted. But I settled on the pulled pork sandwich, and for a side I got the onion tanglers, which are fried onion strips. When I got the sandwich it looked dry, and because it specializes in BBQ, I thought the sandwich would automatically come with BBQ sauce on it. The onion tanglers looked really good and they gave me a healthy portion size. So the customer gets to self serve the BBQ sauce, and there are three different flavors: Dickey's house sauce, sweet and tangy sauce, and a spicy sauce. I tried the house sauce and sweet and tangy sauce; I could not tell the difference between the two. The onion tanglers were extremely salty, ever time I ate one, I had to have a drink. The sandwich was not that good, I had to drench it in BBQ sauce because the meat was extremely dry and had no flavor or seasoning, what so ever. I ended up having to put the onion tanglers on the sandwich to balance the saltiness and flavorless out. However, Dickey's do offer free ice cream. I thought, no one can mess up ice cream, but I was wrong. It was soupy when coming out of the machine, and then they have the audacity to ask customers to not make root beer floats. Really! What else can I do with it because it really doesn't work well in a cone. I was not really impressed with the food, and I am happy that I had a coupon for the sandwich because the prices are ridiculous for a dry and flavorless sandwich. I was not impressed and I have had much better BBQ. The only way I will be back is if I get that coupon again, because the big yellow cups are very nice.

Pretty good bbq, my brisket had way too much fat. They brought me extra brisket without as much fat which was nice of them for free. I will probably be back, since it was decent and there aren't any bbq places in this arwa.

BBQ nut so I'm critical. I thought the sliced brisket was very good. Good variety of sides. I few I haven't seen before. Service just OK. Young employees standing around talking too much. Management issue. The Unknown Diner digs it!

Dickey's is one of my favorite new places to eat in Portage. The service is great and the restaurant is always kept clean. The ribs are my favorite item on the menu. They're smoked properly and are great with any of the house sauces. Cost is definitely worth it for some of the best quick service barbecue around.

Never had a bad meal there. Also have used the catering a couple of times and the guest all made comments on how good the food was.As far as cost, have some of you people bought beef or pork lately at the grocery store.

My first impression was fine, it was a clean place and not too busy. It was my family's first time to a Dickey's restaurant so we were not familiar with how they prepare orders. The staff was very unhelpful and even though I was clearly confused did not offer any help. They literally just stared at me until I figured out what was going on. Customers are expected to order their meats first then go around the corner to order their sides. I ordered my meal first, followed by my 3 children, then my wife. As I walked around the counter, I began to order the sides for my dinner, followed by the sides for my children. I looked down though and saw that they were preparing the plates in a different order than I had placed the original order so everyone's sides were out of whack and the children had gotten child-sized portions of the sides that I wanted. Anyway, it was chaos there for about 60 seconds and I became visibly flustered because there were others waiting behind us in line. The food was just OK. My pulled pork was pretty good, but the ribs where very fatty. The BBQ sauce was just average and the free soft serve ice cream was not good at all. Kids technically eat free on Sunday, but only one free child's meal per adult. That is understandable, but something you should know going in. You should expect to pay about $10-$15 per person (not counting the kids that eat free), but you would be better to find somewhere else and get much better food for the same money. We spent $35 there but could have gotten much better takeout BBQ for less money somewhere else. Next time, that's what we'll do.

Decent southern barbecue in an authentic bbq joint atmosphere. The food is great but a little pricey. Nonetheless worth it.
