Solid lunch specials, great service. Good fried rice with seemingly very fresh ingredients... Rolls were good and did not skimp on the fish amounts in each roll.

Amazing Place!! The miso soup was great and the salad was even better! I don't know what type of salad dressing they use but it's amazing! The sushi was very fresh and tasted great. Having been to Japan, the sushi chefs at Narita are great! Will go back!!

One of my favorite sushi restaurant around Indy. Their sushi style are sophisticated (not simple / traditional) and 'flavorful;. They use a lot of sauce. One of my favorite menu : Scotty Roll : cook on fire sushi..

Hoped Yelp was wrong, so I gave it a try. Walked in early on a Tuesday evening, just around 530. Since I was by myself, I asked to be seated at the Sushi bar, as I normally do when travelling alone for work. Surprisingly, the hostess (who turned out to be my waitress) said the Sushi bar was reserved. I rounded the corner, and a single customer sat at the bar. I was about to turn around, but decided to give it a go. After getting a blank look while asking if they offered Omakase, the waitress brought the sushi chef out. He was not Japanese, but knew about Omakase, and said they did not offer that option. I wanted to give them a chance, so I opted for a couple of orders of nigiri. The white tuna and hamachi were fresh and tasty, but I was a bit put off by the atmosphere, so I did not order anything else. As I left, the sushi bar, and most of the restaurant was empty. I would recommend looking elsewhere for sushi in the Indianapolis area until they fix their service issues.

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. With a reservation we still had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. No water was delivered to the table. The appetizers came out after the entries. Not all of the appetizers were delivered. We had food and no silverware. I talked to management and they did very little. Also they messed up both bills and it took two attempts to correct it. Of all of the sushi I've had this was worst.

Service way too slow. Don't go their for a quick meal! Speaking to others around us that are regulars or have been there before, you can expect a wait for your food.

Great food, awesome prices! The atmosphere is very comfortable, private, and trendy! Great for a date.
(4)Chloe T.
Went here late on a weekday night. Right when we walk in, just like other reviewer, you need to get past the entrance decor. Once you do it is a little gem inside. Tasty food and inexpensive drink prices. Loved their sake martini's. Don't expect "fast food!!" It is a nice place to sit down and dine. Go relax, eat, drink!
(5)Pete K.
You never know when pulling off the interstate but very accommodating to this vegan. Pleasant surprise that their Miso soup is vegetable based. And the Hibachi vegetables are a great combination. They even made me vegan fries rice. Their menu looks good for the average sushi fan.

If you love sushi, grilled steak & chicken, or any type of japanese cuisine, this place is great. Narita is in Plainfield right of I-70, a pretty good location in my opinion. There might be a day here and there where they're slow, but they seem to be at a good pace for most of the time. The restaurant is clean every time I've been there. The sushi is very fresh and the other food is delicious. For those wondering, it isn't a steakhouse. I highly recommend it if anyone's looking for good asian food in a nice, laid back restaurant.
(5)Thomas W.
Great sushi restaurant. Great combinations at a lower cost than many sushi houses. Great ownership and employees. They don't have the typical Japanese Steakhouse fryers where you get food and a show, but they can make the steakhouse menu. Come here for the sushi, its worth the time and money. Try the Playboy or Scotty rolls, they put them in foil and set them on fire. They have a decent bar to sit at with very comfy chairs, but there's only nine seats. They have two group rooms that I've rarely seen anyone use. This is a hidden gem, the west side of Indy is still a bit in the dark on sushi.
(5)Lauren S.
Very good sushi! Reasonable pricing. Service was a little slow but there was only one waitress working when I went but she was very friendly. Recommend the Play Boy Roll.... Yum!!!!
(4)Edward S.
Food was excellent. The service started poorly, then a new waiter arrived and it improved. Had the Hibachi Scallop with Miso Soup and had the Calamari Ring. They were delicious. Friend got the Vegetable Tempura and said it was not that great.
(3)Bret H.
I came in as a lover of buffet-style sushi. I informed the waitress that I was a newbie and if she helped me I would help her. She made FANTASTIC recommendations and was a huge help. The food was incredible. The flavors were amazing! I look forward to coming back here again.

An established Japanese eatery in Plainfield that needs a little help. The food itself needs little help, considering what's expected in the middle of Indiana. However, the rest of what sits in this location could do with a makeover. The restaurants' exterior isn't necessarily cheery. It's interior is a little dark and dank, with warped ceiling tiles. It's difficult to hang a low star on any business. It's easy to see Narita gives a valiant effort. They just don't have enough help to provide good service. Lunch was at 11:45. 3 seated tables in the house. Had to search for someone to seat me. Ordered in 5 minutes, had miso soup and salad with in 10 after being seated. Ok, things are looking up. Chose the Tonkatsu. 4 stars for the simple meal. Miso exhibited good flavor with tiny chunks of tofu and wandering nori. Slightly watery salad and a tasty dressing which had nuances of soy, and ginger. Very good actually. Tonkatsu is a method of tenderizing the protein, breading and flash frying. It's traditionally served with a savory, sweet sauce to dip. The pork was crispy, tender, moist and served with perfectly steamed rice. Dip in the sauce, dab the pork on the rice and chow. Then the let down. 3 more tables charged in, 1 server. Waited 15 minutes for the server to bring the check. Didn't happen, had to track her down. Finally to pay, but wait... she forgot to hand me back my credit card and I had to track her again. Sheesh! Good food, careless service.

Came here for lunch on a Monday and am leaving over an hour later without having eaten. Waitress was incredibly slow and inattentive. We finally decided to leave after we hadn't even received our seaweed salad. On our way out the door, the waitress told us the chef was working on our order but the chef said he hadn't started it yet. Will not be returning.
(1)Rachel W.
Yummy food, but the service has always been slow here. Casual dining, quick seating.
(4)Amanda D.
I love this restaurant and the great renovation of the interior from the last restaurant that was in this space. I usually have the same waitress when I go in, and she has always been so sweet and accommodating. The food is delicious, and I love the dry plum wine! For two I would recommend the rock shrimp appetizer, the inside out lobster roll or spider roll, and a hibachi entree to split. Just make sure to bring your appetitie!
(4)Jennifer L.
I went in with out high expectations, but I was impressed with the dynamite roll I ordered as take out... It was fresh and delicious!! I will definitely come back.
(4)William A.
Little short handed, forgot to turn in our sushi order hibachi entree was good made up for the confusion on our sushi order.....I'd be willing to give it another try
(4)Mary J.
Totally messed up order. Make sure you get what you order. Not going back. Customer is lacking.

Me and my husband were invited by a group of friends to eat here and I have to say the food was amazing but we never get out much and didn't really have the money to begin with. The bill came and was 50$ for two entrees and two drinks plus an 8$ appetizer. We really only had 50 to spend so unfortunately we were only able to leave a dollar tip. It was nothing personal, just didn't want our bank account to go negative. Everyone else in the party tipped 15% or more so the guy made some money. BUT THEN our bank contacts us today and says that our account overdraft due to the 58.-- bill from Narita's! Our waiter had changed the 1.00$ tip to a 9.00$ tip!!!!! Never in my life have I been stolen from like that from a restaurant. When we called to complain the first question the manager asked was why we tipped so low?! Why does it matter? That's stealing!!! If you use a card to pay here I would write out the tip in word for like "one dollar" instead of writing numbers that can easily be changed after you walk out the front door.

Great rice, mediocre sushi. I had the inside out Philadelphia roll. Great concept but the salmon was sliced too thick and the cream cheese ended up in unappetizing chunks. The best part about the sushi was the rice. It was perfectly stuck together and not too much was used. I also ordered the pork gyoza, which had a good flavor, but was a little greasy. This was my second visit to Narita. The first visit was much better. I may give it one more try...
(2)Aaron L.
I've been here several times now, and had a few different results. Sometimes the sushi is good, sometimes it's just okay. Service is either really slow, or average. And the older lady who is either the owner or manager is rude and unprofessional. My most recent visit I showed up 40 minutes before close, which is plenty to make and eat 3 rolls. But she was very pushy about taking it to go. Even being the only customers the cooked roll I order came out barely warm (like every other time). I won't be going back after this visit, there are plenty of other good Japanese restaurants around.
(2)Kay B.

(4)Vamsi V.
Terrible restaurant. Waited for over 45mins for a takeout and finally had to leave when told food wasn't ready yet (after 45mins of waiting). Very poor service
(1)Dave A.
Mediocre at best. Take out order took 20 min longer than expected. Hibachi shrimp was ok, but nothing spectacular. Miso soup lacked content and was mostly broth. In town for a seminar and location is close to hotel.
(3)Steven W.
The sushi is over priced and below average. The website showed more options than they actually had on the menu. I am a vegetarian and they only had two veggie rolls that were available. The website showed three rolls, and the one I most wanted was missing. Apart from that, the dining room was filthy. I mean, a layer of grime covering everything. My table had not been wiped off in quite awhile and there was a filthy napkin welcoming me under the table. A very bad lunch experience. I would have preferred to eat at one of the nearby gas stations.
(2)Tim N.
Came back yesterday. No more toaster jam roll :-(. Boo hiss.. They did have age tofu but it was really really bad. The roll was mediocre at best. It's fallen sadly
(2)Mary D.
I'm not a sushi fan but love the cooked Japanese/Asian dishes. The Chicken Katsu with dipping sauces is so good, as is the ton katsu, pad zew and habachi meals, fresh, hot, never greasy and full of flavor. The wait staff is very engaged and friendly. I eat lunch here on the weekends and it's not so busy they can't be attentive. Definitely a favorite when I treat myself out for lunch with a friend.
(4)Matt D.
Craving sushi after a long day of travel, and I happened to be staying next door to Narita. Once again, I ignored the Yelp reviews and gave it a shot. I was expecting lousy service, and instead got pretty good service. My problem was with the prices and the food. The sushi was expensive, and it really wasn't that great. I don't remember all the names, but the roll with the cilantro and and jalapeno was the best of the bunch, but it wasn't in the $11.50 range. The eel and avocado roll was average and relatively small (not much eel). I ordered the blossom roll, because I love good scallop rolls, and in typical fashion, they were out of scallop. He offered white tuna instead, and it didn't really matter, because this roll was bland. The house salad has decent flavor, but it was very watery. The killer was the sake. My waitress recommended a medium, yeasty sake (never can get the names of sake) in a green bottle and was $10.25 for a small. Stay away! It was yeasty, milky, grainy, and tasted of bananas. It was awful! I really had a hard time drinking it. I'm starting to get tough on reviews for sushi. My recent trip to the west coast opened my eyes to the true potential of real sushi, and places like this just don't hold up. I might have gone three stars if it weren't for the sake and high prices.

Narita [noun]- excellent fresh sushi, great food, friendly staff, intimate atmosphere, slow service. Favorite items- assorted nigiri, Jen & Bill roll, Moscow roll, chirashi bowl We have been faithful Narita customers since they opened (both pre & post fire). In our experience, in both quality & flavor, it is the best sushi restaurant in the Indy metro area. Here's the key--We plan our Narita visits on nights when we don't have to rush off to be somewhere. We go with the expectation that we are going to have plenty of time to talk about our workdays, discuss family gossip, or to finalize plans for upcoming adventures or home improvement projects. It's really lovely. Private booths, quiet restaurant, no dogs underfoot begging us for tastes of our raw fish... While the service might be slow, the waitstaff, hostess/owner, & chefs are fabulous & friendly. A good sushi restaurant recognizes & knows their repeat customers & we always feel like family when we walk in & they harass us that it's been too long since our last visit. Give Narita a try. Gather a couple of friends or that someone special...and cozy in for a good conversation while you wait for your delicious sushi to arrive.
(4)Samantha T.
My friend and I have become regulars here and for good reason. I was a sushi novice before coming and now I'm an addict. I love the Chingo, Narita, and Philadelphia rolls. I work (and have worked) in the food service industry and I feel it's adequately priced. I mean, I'm not rich by any means and I can afford to come back weekly for 2-3 rolls and an alcoholic drink. We usually get the same woman (Helly, I think) as our waitress and we love her so much. She's so funny and personable!
(4)Gloria C.
I walked in after a long flight from Cali. They were soon to close in an hour but did not appear rushed to take my order and chat it up over IND vs NY, who was dominating. Only one real concern, the wasabi sauce was sweet and I expect with the description that I would get a mild punch in the back of my head. The standard test for me is can you make a Spicy Scallop Hand Roll, it was spicy, fresh and met the challenge. I plan to return on another of my infrequent visits to the Hoosier land !
(3)Mary A.
Wondering why the floor is solid granite throughout -- easier to hose it down? The food is amazing..the vegetable spring rolls are some of the best I have had., As I sat enjoying a nice glass of wine and my spring rolls I was in awe of the floor. The entire place has a granite floor. It must of cost more than the whole building. I know this is not your typical review topic, but if you are going to put that much money into something...beef up the entry way. The sign sitting up against the entry desk and the lack of any welcoming touches leaves you wondering if you have entered into a place you want to stay. Give it a chance and walk a little farther and suddenly it takes a turn for the better....wonderful private booths, with sides tall enough to offer you a feeling of eating in a quiet cove. The servers are friendly just not speedy. If you want quick or even normal time frames this is not where you will get it. I have been here numerous times and it is not the service I go back for. The food is the draw, which I guess is the essence of importance, but they could be a top notch, always busy, standing room only if they would just try a little harder on the "little things"
(4)Kevin L.
Awful. Miso soup was overly salty. Salad lacked flavor. Sushi was not fresh. While I recognize that fresh sushi in the midwest is asking a lot, I am able to get fresher sushi at other places in the region. A la carte sushi items seriously overpriced. Service was fairly attentive and friendly.
(2)Alicia E.
I had a good time dining here while I was in town for a conference. Service was quick and sushi was decent for the Midwest. I had hot tea with the Arizona roll (OK), inside-out Philadelphia roll (delicious!), and the Shiro Tiger roll (also delicious!). My bill was about $30. The rolls each had 10 normal-sized pieces, so I naturally had leftovers. Usually I never eat leftover sushi because my stomach is sensitive, but this stuff was still good the next day!
(4)Edgar D.
Amazing sushi! Their spring rolls are excellent as well. Overall, the food was great. They could work on a couple things: 1. They need to work on their initial presentation at the door. Right inside the front door it looks very bare, almost neglected. The entire front area, from the entrance to the short hall leading to the main eating area smells like dead fish - not very reassuring at all when you're planning to have sushi. Once you're inside the restaurant the atmosphere is great - the place looks amazing! 2. Service time - Even though the restaurant appeared to be fully staffed, it took forever to get any service. The restaurant was well under capacity - maybe slightly under half-full. Overall it wasn't a bad experience though. I'd come here again.

Mediocre at best. Take out order took 20 min longer than expected. Hibachi shrimp was ok, but nothing spectacular. Miso soup lacked content and was mostly broth. In town for a seminar and location is close to hotel.
