I don't know what has happened to this once great place to eat. We just returned from there and will not be going back. At least until we here it is better. The rolls were hard and very dense, also a grayish color inside. The pulled pork was super dry, and no seasoning. The hamburger steak had absolutely no seasoning. The fried chicken used to be the thing to go for, it was dry and lukewarm tonight. My coffee was very old. Surprised at the lack of good service. The staff seemed to be standing around talking, not smiling or friendly. Just has changed so much. Sure hope they can regroup and get back on track.

Truly Amish cooking. Start with the excellent salad bar with fresh ingredients plus home made puddings and desserts. The hot buffet has a good selection of meats and vegetables, mashed potatoes are to die for! Fresh hot bread and desserts, too.

If you like homemade - homestyle food, then this is the place to eat. Amish cooking at its best. Large restaurant with huge buffet and menu service. Everything is cooked to order and made fresh. Staff are friendly, upbeat and food can't be beat! Always busy for a reason - very popular with locals. Look for the Amish horse and buggy across from Grissom AFB entrance on US31.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon around 6:30pm (they close at 8:00) - we elected to get the buffet. Salad bar had an average selection, but the ranch dressing had an odd flavor, and the only lettuce was shredded iceberg, no spinach, spring mix, or romaine. As for the hot bar; we noticed some of the items were low and assumed they'd be restocked, unfortunately they never refilled the Macaroni & Cheese and one other item was vacant (only saw an empty pan that was never replaced) - the mashed potatoes were over-whipped (a pet peeve of mine) and they tasted like they might have been instant, after asking I was assured they were "real" mashed potatoes. The pulled pork was good, as were the chicken and noodles - rolls were somewhat dry, but this was fixed by application of apple butter. Overall, as the title says, we weren't all that impressed - from the other reviews here I was expecting some wonderful food, and while everything was edible, none of it was memorable or any better than I could make at home. Another thing I noticed is that for people who chose to order from the menu vs dining from the buffet - sides and possibly entrees were sourced directly from the public hot bar. By the way; as with many "Amish" restaurants it's anything but - this is simply American home-style cooking, there may be some Amish people working here, but if the name of the restaurant wasn't "Dutch cafe" and the decor you'd think you might think you were any other midrange buffet restaurant. Disclosure; my wife grew up Mennonite, and her grandmother is authentic old-order Amish - so perhaps we're a bit biased, but as my wife says, she doesn't taste the "love" in this food.

There is food, and lots of it, and the food is not bad, but the best thing this place has going for it is its location just off the highway and not much competition nearby. I have stopped in for breakfast and usually find it sparsely filled. Usually the staff is friendly, but a few times the service has been a bit off. Overall an adequate but nothing to get excited about place to eat when driving in the area.

Dutch Café is one of the more popular restaurants in Peru, they are known for serving up some great breakfast. We visited twice. The first time was for lunch, the second time was for breakfast. We weren't too impressed by either meal. Dutch Café is the kind of place you go to get a meal if you don't feel like cooking at home. It is certainly not a restaurant you visit for a unique foodie experience and you certainly don't go for the ambience. Dutch Cafe Peru Lunch was nothing special. There is nothing on the menu for a Vegetarian other than a grilled cheese sandwich and a salad bar which is what I had. My sandwich was OK- it was golden brown and filled with ooey gooey cheese, though a little too greasy for my taste. The salad bar was decent. Though there was plenty of veggies to pile up on my plate, but some of them were so icy they crunched in my mouth like ice cubes. They either use frozen veggies or keep them too cold on the bar. Chad had the tuna sandwich on homemade bread. Way too much mayonnaise. Dutch Café isn't much on presentation- his sandwich looked like slop on bread. It needed some spices or something. Our second visit was for breakfast which they are more popular for. The menu is very typical of any breakfast diner, a selection of egg platters, omelets and French Toast. I had the two egg platter with hashbrowns, toast and coffee. It was OK, again nothing I couldn't make at home. Each table does have a bottle of apple butter and a jar of Amish cream. Amish cream is a mixture of peanut butter and marshmallow cream. It made my toast more bearable at least. Chad ordered the French Toast. I haven't been to many places that can ruin French toast. He thought it was good here. Really not much more to say here. He had also ordered the Vegetarian Omelet- 3 eggs with mushrooms, peppers, onions and cheese. He asked to have the mushrooms omitted so they instead threw in extra green peppers. Again, nothing special. It was edible. We only had one minor glitch in the food delivery. Chad was originally brought the Western Omelet with ham. Though we aren't strict Vegetarians we don't normally order pork in restaurants so we unfortunately had to send it back and wait for his veggie version. We thought the Dutch Café was barely average. The décor is extremely outdated. Some of the tables need to be replaced. We had years of coffee cup rings stains on our table. At least cover it with a tablecloth or something. And the bowl of creamers at the table was filthy with someone's leftover Amish Cream breakfast. It was disgusting. I don't think we would ever return and I imagine the only reason it is still popular is simply because they've had years of loyal followers who are regulars that return. They are popular for their freshly baked pies- that would be the only reason for us to walk through those doors again. Lunch was awful and the table was filthy and stained.

OK. Buffet is standard buffet, chicken and some pulled pork. Salad bar is standard. Service is friendly. For a quick lunch, meets needs.

Just ok. Had the buffett during lunch. Chicken noodles were good, mashed potatoes were instant, green beans and corn just canned. Decent, but definately not all from scratch, homemade cooking.
