An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

We come to Indiana at least once a year to visit family. And we have to eat here every time we visit. The food is good! A very home cook taste to the food!

First time eating here and was very pleased. Got the burrito with "spicy steak". Flavor was outstanding but the actual steak was not so good. Lots of little bits of gristle that made it lose points. The salsa was fresh and what all "Mexican" restaurants should serve- just tomato, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro - not from a jar. Definitely going back and trying a different cut of meat this time.

Go to place for some good Mexican grub... Had everything on the menu.. And yes it took some time, and am proud to say I loved everything! Living only Ten minutes away is a blessing and a curse!

Plenty of positives at El Ranchero. The food is solid and prices are competitive, the service can get a bit overwhelmed but they manage. Stopped in the other day with the fam and ran the gamut of their menu. Wasn't too hard to get a table for 9, and had chips, salsa, and water after a few minutes. Salsas and chips were ok, the pico is definitely their bright spot. Fresh and spicy. Tried their more-less veggie quesadillas, which were a bit oily, but had plenty of flavor and nicely sauteed squash, mushrooms, etc. The Breakfast Burrito was pretty tasteless, and needed a lot work from the salt, pepper, and salsas....no meat definitely killed it. Luckily, that's about where the bad news ends. Torta de Milanesa, meat and broth soup, enchiladas, steak tacos, tostadas, all were fresh, well-proportioned, and certainly pleasing to the eye and palate. No lack of food for your money, and friendly, somewhat inconsistent service, was a plus. Plenty of menu worth tasting, and it doesn't stop there. Their bakery is connected and stocked full with fresh breads, cookies, and other traditional Mexican grocery. Nothing better after a taco, quesadilla, or burrito than a Mexican popsicle once cherished as a child in the summer heat, waiting for that little cart jingling the bells heard blocks away, always stocked with those .50 cent ice cream dreams. El Ranchero is solid, all-around traditional Mexican restaurant, maybe lacking here or there, but well worth a stop or two or ten.

ok..definately not great..salsa sucked big time..asked for corn tortilla got flour..chips a lillte 2 thick for me but fresh..$5 lunch so cant complain 2 much..it was ok

For the prices you will not get any better Mexican food! Great service and true authentic Mexican cuisine. I recommend this place, you won't be disappointed! This place is better than most higher priced Mexican restaurants.

Always good, sometimes great. This Sunday was great. I had 3 tacos - guisado, steak and al pastor. All were excellent. Husband had chili rellenos which were great and my son's pancakes came out Mickey Mouse style, which was an added bonus for him. My other son had his standard - 3 steak tacos, which he always loves. The best part - food and $5 tip - $29.08. Can't beat it.

I'm amazed at how quickly the quality and preparation of the food went downhill in such a short amount of time. We have not enjoyed our dishes the last 3 times dining in or ordering carry-out here.

A great place to go for authentic Mexican food. No, it's not the fanciest place in the world, but OMG, the food makes it worth sitting in the dining room with the warped plastic tables. Open breakfast-dinner, I have only had one bad experience in all the times I've been there. Also, be sure you understand what you're ordering, or you may not get exactly what you wanted. Also part of the business is a bodega and bakery, so it always smells heavenly in there. On Sunday mornings, it is one of the few places left where you can get barbacoa. Portions are plentiful, and they are always busy: I went one evening for dinner and was told that I could not get the chiles rellenos I wanted to order because they are made fresh daily and they were out of them! Hooray for fresh food!

This place is for sure my go to Mexican place. Good food with a home cooked, authentic atmosphere to it and amazing service. Not to mention that the pastries are amazing!
