Actually this is a small chain EATERIE, but maintains 1970's appearance, style & menu. It's a place outa the past, but that's good in some ways. Lotsa older folks were eating here, so it has to have good something. My BLT WAS GOOD, with the bacon being excellent. My veggie soup was "waterie," like out of a generic can. Service was very good, & prices reasonable. I was hoping for a brewed stew, and not just a few peas & corn thrown in with a bunch of potatoes, in water; SOUP ??? It'll be breakfast, next trip.

Muncie, IN: Cute diner serving satisfying food. Forgot about the potential for a crowd after church for the locals. Dining room was packed but we were seated after a 10ish minute wait. Menues arrived with juice cup sized water glasses. Our two coffees were served with a caraffe as it was "bottomless". One of our party ordered water and received it in a tall glass to match the iced tea glass when they were served. FOOD Tex Mex Omelet Vegetarian Omelet Chicken Grilled Salad Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns Food was promptly prepared and served. The omelets were served with hash browns, and a choice of toast, biscuit, or pancake. I was granted a substitution of large, fresh tomato slices. Had the option of grilled or coated and fried chicken on the salad. Grilled version was tasty and so too was the plate with scrambled eggs. Amazingly speedy and very friendly service. Well prepared food in generous sized portions, all at reasonable prices. There was a steady stream of new customers coming in but no one had to wait more than ten minutes. Wait area was never full, although the dining room was. Great place for a quick, comfort food meal. They're open 24 hours!

This is a fine place to eat breakfast food. I had standard bacon, eggs, toast, hash browns and pancakes. All of it was good but it didn't seem to be overly amazing or anything. The service was satisfactory; they were friendly and kept our drinks filled. The dining room doesn't look like it's been redecorated since 1991; it had a little Twin Peaks vibe but not in an interesting way. I don't live in Muncie so this was probably the only time I'll ever come here, but I'd recommend it to others if they want breakfast. I'd just also mention that it's not going to blow your mind. Overall, it's an okay place to eat.

A-OK sums it up. It's not great, but it's good, it's filling, it's clean, and the service is fast and friendly. Nice, homey atmosphere, and convenient location. Is it worth a trip across town for? No, probably not. But if you're in the area, it deserves a stop. :)

Back in the days of diners one had that relaxed good time feel good experience and the Sunshine Café of Muncie gives that along with it's great food. We had the BEST service and the food was great. It was well worth the money! It really sent me back to my childhood in the 80s before giant franchises took over the dining experience. I love this place and I can't wait to go back. It is A MUST in Muncie.

Better than McDonald's for breakfast. Always crowded but then again that is a good indication the food it good. Wait time for your meals could be a bit faster but then again if they are busy you have to expect the wait. Food is priced right and quality and quantity is good. Waitresses are attentive and pleasant.

If you're up late studying and you need some brain food, this place rocks 24/7. I've heard it also serves up a killer hangover remedy. The food isn't the best in the world, but it's a much better option than Bob Evans or IHOP. Plus, the service is super fast and it seems to always be quiet enough to hold a good conversation about current issues with a classmate or to take notes on that 6th chapter before your test the next day. I'm not sure if the Wifi is provided by Sunshine, but I do know you can access some free internet to work away while you're eating or waiting for that food. If I had to recommend a menu item, go with the country-fried steak. Oh, and the coffee is unlimited. Don't mind the decor - it's like stepping 30 years back in time, but it won't hurt you. I promise. It's all worth it for some cheap food that comes in seriously huge portions, whether you're a college student or not.

Food 3/5: It's meh, only thing I've found good is a salad, steaks are terrible. Service 3/5: Sometimes way slow Scenery: 1/5: Talk about outdated

Ordered to country fried steak with the eggs sunny side up. Looved how everything was the way it was supposed to be. Such as the hashbrowns are nice and browned/crispy, the steak was cooked through and soft yet light, good helping of pancakes and egg was done just right. Service was a tad bit slow but we went in on a morning it was busy

A greasy spoon, but one that grows on ya. I started eating at the Sunshine Cafe in 2001 when I was a freshman at BSU. The decor is rather outdated and the music is mostly oldies. The food itself is nothing special, though there is a wide selection to choose from, all at reasonable prices. The best thing about this place is that it offers a late night / early morning escape--a place to go and sober up at 3:00 am on a Sunday, or to have those quasi-philosophical conversations with close friends. It should also be noted that they offer a 10% discount to BSU students if you ask about it at the register.

Long story short, it used to be a Waffle House. They had the name first for the state, and encroaching reverse-carpetbaggers had to use the Waffle Steak moniker whilst dealing in Hoosierland. That said, I don't think I've ever gotten a waffle. The Patty Melt is great, as is the B&G, and if you're stupid and have a sense of humor, anything seafoody is a riot - I suggest the Shrimpin'. The coffee is bottomless. The waitresses are quite used to the late night parade of drunks, scumbags, and cops, but Sunshine is a neutral zone. As much as I lament the fall of Family Kitchen (Stars and Stripes, Omega, etc), Sunshine is a snug harbor for the nocturnal set.

In a land filled with Mc-restaurants and generic food, there is a savior in Sunshine Cafe. We ate here recently during a conference at Ball State Univ. and the food was phenom! Although the service is a little slow, if not standoffish, it almost adds to the no nonsense approach to the place. The pancakes are amazing, as is the philly cheesesteak omelette. Prices are reasonable, and portions are generous, enough for two to easily share. Since this is a 24 hour joint it's also a nice place to go chill.

Thank goodness for the Sunshine Cafe! It was after midnight on my first night in Indiana, I'd just found a motel to stay at and was hungry--hadn't had dinner yet, craving breaded pork tenderloin and sugar cream pie--they had the first but not the second. What kind of Indiana restaurant doesn't have sugar cream pie?? The pork tendersoin was great as was the gravy so I got fed and went to bed! I had a wonderful and helpful waitress also! Highly recommended if you want to avoid chains and need a friendly place with good food open late at night. I noticed a lot of obvious "regulars" there so it is popular with the locals also--always a good sign.

After living in Muncie for 10 months, we finally got around to trying this place, and were mostly satisfied. My wife got the country fried steak, and said it was very good. She also enjoyed the green beans and mashed potatoes. I got the fried chicken, and was less impressed. The meat was of the mystery variety, like what you get in a TV dinner, and not full breasts as I was expecting. And the batter was kinda weird, more like seafood batter than what I'd expect on fried chicken. It tasted okay, I suppose, but not great, and I probably won't order it again. They offered sliced tomatoes as a side, which is great, and they were good. The mac & cheese wasn't the best I've had, and was an unnatural shade of orange. But the menu is large, and I'm keep to try some of the other stuff they offer.

This place is a tiny oasis of culinary frankness in a desert of near-death commercialism. Service is friendly, no-nonsense, and very quick. Coffee is neverending and the food is delightfully unassuming. My philly steak and swiss omelet was delicious and crafted from simple yet high quality ingredients; the onions were onions, the peppers were peppers, and the meat was real meat. This is the sort of place where families, cops, drunks, and ordinary people all go to eat in peace. If you need diner fare, look no further.

Sunshine cafe is a local favorite and definitely a late night destination for those early morning party people looking to get some grub. They have a great menu and patient wait staff luckily. I haven't been there for anything other than breakfast but I hear the other food is very much like Bob Evans but more diner home cooked style.

I used to live down the street from this place in college. It's open 24 hours, the coffee is never ending and the food is pretty good. Sunshine Cafe is like a dive bar, in a good way...the cast of characters that hangs out there is entertaining in a good way and the decor is simple. The pancakes were good as were the chicken strips. Excellent after a long night of studying, and by studying I also mean drinking.

Good food. Wait staff is pretty good. Sometimes if you go at night be prepared to wait though. Good breakfast food. Good lunch/dinner food. Drink refill/fillup is decent too... just matters on the server.

I don't really know how the food is here - I don't much remember it. Most times I've been here its always been in the middle of the night for coffee with friends... Great coffee and one of the few places always open in town... I can't bring myself to change over to the IHOP...
