LOVE this place. They've got a great selection of pub food at ridiculously cheap prices, and a modest but quality selection of beers on tap, usually from regional breweries. The venue is kept clean, and there's a warm, laid-back vibe to the place. Good for dinner, and good in the evening. Crowd is never rowdy, always chill.

A nice addition for downtown Muncie. Large selection of craft beers, pool table and pretty good bar grub. If you are low on cash, to this place you must dash...... I't just needs more parking space! The Bike picture says it all.

What can I say? I've been a regular here since day one... I've watched this place grow from just the newest corner bar into the best place to get food and beer in downtown Muncie. The beer selection is top notch, they may not have as many draft lines or bottles as some other places, but what they do have is always fresh and will be served properly. You can always find the regular mainstays from 3 Floyds, Founders and Bell's plus several rotating draft lines always have something new and interesting pouring. The food is probably the best pub food you'll find in Muncie, everything is very reasonably priced and tastes great. The tenderloin is probably the signature sandwich and its definitely not your standard 'loin... Thick cut and hand battered, much better than the typical pounded thin variety. The staff are what truly makes this place great. Always friendly, more like family really... The bartenders are very knowledgable about their products and are always able to make suggestions based on what I like and have had in the past. Oh, and Champagne Jams!!!

Very eclectic place that is great for a growing downtown scene. We ordered burgers and the beer battered tenderloin and both were fantastic. The tenderloin is different than what most Hoosiers would expect with the beer batter but it is fantastic and the burger seasoned perfectly. The sides are an additional cost but it is still very reasonable. Our bill was $26 for two with sides and a draft beer. We will be back!

Food was excellent. Bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers they sell. Good selection of local craft beers and cider. Plus PBR for some reason.

My goodness how I miss this place since I left Muncie! The beers are reasonably priced, the servers are awesome, and the kitchen staff are super proficient. Best burgers in town for sure. I usually order their hummus, it's a pretty display and simply delicious!

A local restaurant with character and super cheap beer, Savage's has a lot to offer. A friend and I stopped in for a leisurely lunch here. The first thing I noticed was the awesome variety of quality craft beers, followed by the price. And since it was a Monday, all pints were an additional dollar off. Somebody pinch me! The food menu was very reasonably priced as well. Two sandwiches and four beers cost a grand total of twenty bucks for the two of us. Not bad! My friend got the burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't fare so well. My pork tenderloin sandwich, although very nicely battered and crispy, was low-quality meat: gristly, with lots of tough or fatty bits. Guess I'll stick to the burgers in the future. Overall, I liked this place. Our server was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed, and did I mention the cheap beer? I will definitely come back here the next time I'm in town.

I am never looking back, because savage's has changed downtown for the better, forever. Hip, fun, and accessible atmosphere for ages 21 to 81. Tremendous rotating tap selection, with emphasis on the award winning craft breweries of the great American heartland. Freshly beer-battered, mouth watering pork tenderloin sandwiches dominating a kaiser roll make you forget that they were invented in Germany, and make you fall in love with the other white meat all over again. Piles of thick, golden, crinkle cut fries dazzled with pepper await you, and rivers of ranch dressing beckon. The window may say BEER WINE FOOD in austere Helvetica, but the heart and soul of this echo chamber of punk rock and rockabilly is pure 'Murica.

Not a bad place to eat and drink at all. I like this place. The food is pretty standard (I got a BLT) but good. The beer selection is decent, the atmosphere is laid back and fun, there's some amazing graffiti in the bathroom, and it's large enough to accommodate a good number of people. I like the way it's decorated and you can tell it's in an old building, which I appreciate. If I ever come back to Muncie, I'll probably come back to Savage's.

During a horrendously lackluster date, my wandering eyes checked out the glories of this bar. Muncie, like a lot of central Indiana, looks pretty scary on the outside, but the gooey insides here are actually pretty great. I'd never been to Muncie before and Savage's took me by surprise. Amazingly cheap draft beer ($3.50 and under) and a great selection of brews. Surprisingly classy clientele for a town with a stereotypically low reputation. I'd go back.... Muncie does beer right.

  • Kyle D.

The Beer Battered Tenderloin will melt in your mouth! I would definitely recommend it. The service on the other hand is pretty underwhelming. There are definitely no pleasantries, and I agree with the statement about feeling like an inconvenience. If that doesn't concern you then go in and grab yourself a sandwich and a brew. As you see I still have it 5 stars ;-)

My brother loves this place. I'm torn as to how to rate it myself. As a bar, it is a solid four stars--a Muncie five. The place has an old-school working class bar feel. Cool ceiling, cool bar, cool fixtures. There are lots of microbrew options and there is always cheap PBR and Schlitz. Moreover, the beer is cheap. The crowd is a bit hipster for me, but usually some cool girls to talk to. As for the food---I'm not that big of a fan. The burgers have a weird aftertaste. I'm not sure if it's the quality/mix of meat they use or some kind of seasoning. The much lauded Hoosier pork tenderloin has been a bit soggy when I've ordered it. I think the fry oil needed to be changed. Long and short--if you're going for beer, GO HERE! If you want dinner---eh.....

Alright, so I'm torn with this rating. This is a little divey bar near Ball State University that had a very high rating. Based on food...I'd give this place a 3 at most...maybe even a 2....I was not a fan...overly fried food...grease traps...but I don't expect much from a bar....however the drinks are what makes me think again about giving a higher rating. So let me just put this out there....if you are going to have drinks...this place is a 6 out of 5!! for real....the selection is awesome and the prices are even more awesome. Wild Blue Blueberry Ale for 2$? WHA? Sunking pints for 2.50? PBR for a buck? The list goes on and on for 1-3$...amazing. Too bad it is so far away, I'd make this a normal bar hangout for drinks....pass on the food.

Good selection of craft beer, great 3 Floyds selection, and a lot of the old stuff you love (PBR, Schlitz, Blatz, etc.) The food is excellent!!! Also, great atmosphere

Food was very good. Served in a decent amount of time and their Rotating Beer selection impressed my man. Even tho the Zombie Dust was not on tap at that time, they've usually got it -just ask. Beer battered tenderloin is a generous portion and hit the spot. Chicken Club had crispy bacon and was spot-on with the sweet potato waffle fries. The special dipping sauce for my waffle fries was just a lil too sweet for me but still tasty. Everything is ala carte but the trio basket is a good way to share and sample 3 different sides. Enjoy!

Lost count how many times I've been here. IMHO, Savage's is THE best place you can patronize in downtown Muncie. Crazy cheap beer ($1 PBRS!?) with lots of craft variety: 3 Floyds, Bells, Founders, Upland on tap and nearly all everyday for $3 with a few at $4. Marry that with solid pub food (tenderloins, awesome burgers, nachos, tacos, etc.) Great music is always playing, ambiance is great (pool table!) and at least in my experience, helpful, friendly service. Owner is a stand-up guy and has a real gem! You'll find lawyers, city workers, hipsters, bros, old, young... all types at Savage's. My go to: 2 Schlitzes & a killer jalapeno/blue cheese burger with a pile of always hot/crisp fries all for a Hamilton and a couple G-dubs. Only knock isn't their fault, but the place can be crazy busy during lunch and dinner peak hours... so bad you really can't get in. Expanded seating has helped this problem somewhat though.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's a great place to eat. It's a great place to get turnt up (with beer only obviously). A great place to eat and get turnt at the same time. The loaded fries with ranch, bacon, cheese, etc (with added ketchup), is DELICIOUS. I love their affordable midway meal with the corndogs. Oh my goodness, I wish I had one right now. I wish they would bring the chili cheese dogs back though. Those were my absolute favorite. I'm sometimes disturbed by some of the art in there, but HEY, that's Muncie! I love the bathroom in the back corner, because it's so secretive and it usually does not have a line. I love the pool table, oh my gosh so much fun. You can go there at any time of day, there are just too many positive things to write about this place. GOOD WORK SAVAGES! PEACE!

  • Meredith S.

I love Savages :) Been here a couple times, and while I've never ordered any food, it all looks delicious. What I like best about this place are two things: a) The extensive beer menu b) The atmosphere Nothing feels more like home to me than a hole-in-the-wall bar in a small town, and this is exactly what Savages is. While it has been recently expanded, it still maintains that feeling which I love. Also, bonus... PBR is always only $1, so if you're not wanting to spend a ton of money, you can probably handle a couple dollars. Almost wish I lived in Muncie so I could hit this place up more. Tis the bestest!

    (5)
  • Billy V.

Fantasic beer selection both on tap and in their glass front case. On top of that they have, hands down, the best bartenders in all of Muncie. They also have some killer bar food including soft pretzels. When I think of the perfect laid back beer bar I picture Savage's every time. For those looking to drink on the cheap they have a special on Three Floyd's beer on Thursday nights and $1 PBR pints all day, every day. If you're in the mood for something different simply tell Nick or Corey what you typically drink and let them expand your taste bud horizons.

Oh holy hell, this place was awesome. I went for the first time last Friday, and it was great. There was a wait for a table, but it was worth it. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They have a massive amount of really great beer on tap. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I had the bbq burger. Both were perfect. Yes, it took time for our food to get to us, but they were slammed. Our appetizer came out quickly and that gave us time to talk and enjoy our beers. I would recommend the Chuck Berry to anyone and everyone!

  • J S.

This place was pretty good. I got the Shed Town sandwich and it didn't disappoint. The portion was a good size for the money, $6.50, but it didn't come with a side. The place was packed when we got there, you basically have to hover over people to get a table. However, this was a Friday night and I'm sure it's not as bad throughout the week. The service was a little slow, it took over an hour to get our food, but I would come back on a different night.

Full disclosure, I came here for dinner after a 46 mile bike ride on the Cardinal Greenway and such physical exertion is likely to make any meal taste better. There are only a few places in Muncie with a great beer selection and this is one of them. The draft list is a full page - one the order of 30 beers on tap and about half of them are local Indiana beers - lots of Three Floyds and Sun King. The other taps include a lot of Midwest beers like Bell's and Founder's. We had the hummus and pita appetizer and soft pretzels. The hummus was great, but I would have liked more hummus. The pretzels were good. The menu is mostly sandwiches, but they've got some creative stuff. I had the Olive Burger - a nice big beef patty topped with a bunch of olives, swiss cheese, and their special sauce on a great kaiser bun. I've never had anything like it and it was quite tasty. A classy dive

The food is great so far, the fries are fantastic. Nice casual atmosphere, prices are very reasonable. Have yet to try the beer selections, looking forward to doing that soon. Only downside I have found is the service, that could certainly be improved upon.

One of our favorite Muncie places. Burgers are fantastic and beer selection is the best. Gets pretty busy at times--- cheap beer and college town!! Always consistently good!!

Savage's is THE place to be in Muncie for both food and beer. Want a good old burger, fries, and [insert American adjunct lager here]? Savage's has you covered. Looking to enjoy some fresh craft brews for a reasonable price? You've got it here. Just trying to forget about work with a few $1 pints of PBR? Look no further! The beer selection isn't extensive like the Heorot, but there's still always something for everyone, and plenty of interesting options for the choosier palate. Just don't come in asking for liquor or mixed drinks - none of that here. For the beer geek, this place warrants a visit at least once or twice a week to keep up with the always-interesting rotating taps, and there are always four taps running for Three Floyds at any given time. Though I'm personally not a fan, Savage's is one of the most reliable places to find Zombie Dust around here. On the topic of the food, it's simple (usually), it's tasty, and it's filling. Oh, and it's cheap! Add in the daily specials, and this is one affordable stop that won't leave you disappointed. My recommendations are the patty melt and, if you can stomach it, the Savage's Epic Burger. The atmosphere is great as well, though I tend to drop in around lunchtime. Nights can get hectic, especially Three Floyds Thursday and the weekends. Either way though, the bar staff is helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. If one bartender can't answer a question about a particular brew, chances are another one can; and if all else fails, hail a nearby beer geek. All in all, Savage's is your one-stop shop for all things "bar" in Muncie. Check it out!

The name says it all. Savagely good prices, Savagely good beer, and they are always showing local art on the walls. It is great pub food. The bartenders are very attentive and friendly.

  • Jason W.

You will not always have a five star experience at Savages. The wait staff can sometimes be rude and it might take awhile for your food to show up. Good luck finding a table on the weekends. Oh and I do miss the half price burger deals and the $.50 PBR. On the brighter side, Savages has a great beer selection, not at many as Herot but who really needs 300 options which might not all be available. Start the night with Three Floyds, Upland, or Bells and end the night with a $1 PBR. The food is cheap and excellent. I hate to admit it, but I do love corn dogs. For the price of $5.50, you get two corn dogs and some fries. You will not go wrong with a burger, but no matter what you order make sure you get some crinkle fries. Despite some of those bad experiences, Savages just feels like home. Come as you are, grab a beer, order some crinkle fries, and make traditions with friends.

So you're in Muncie (sorry) and you want to: Eat a meal of food. This is the best place to do it. FANTASTIC food, from wraps, to sandwiches, to burgers, and they are all freaking delicious. Get a delicious beer. This is the best place to do it. They've got a big selection of Bell's, Founders, 3F's, and others on tap, as well as in bottles. Do either or both of the above, and cheaply. This is the best place to do it. Most of the food ranges from $5-6, and the beers on tap are usually $2-4. Also, PBR is always on tap for $1. Any time I visit my brother in Muncie, this is the only place I consider going, which is saying something given the other two quality bars in the area.

I'll join the bandwagon... Savage's is awesome. It's small, unpretentious, has a ton of selection beer-wise, and THEY SERVE SCHOOL PIZZA. Yes, the rectangular cheese stuff we all remember from our elementary days... and it's $1.50 a slice. Blew my mind. I haven't had that since... wow, was it really 1992? Anyway, my husband was also really impressed with the jalapeno bleu cheese burger. And I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband was thrilled they had two of his favorites available in bottles... Founder's Breakfast Stout and North Coast's Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. The service was pretty quick, although we did wait awhile for our check... and it wasn't really a check; just the server telling us that it was $22. That seemed about right, so we took her word for it. Lots of hipsters, but they were quiet, Scrabble-playing, PBR-sipping hipsters. I'll definitely be back... for the atmosphere, the prices and of course, the pizza.

This is probably my favorite bar in the world. Great beer prices, good food, darker relaxed atmosphere, Pool/Foosball if you want to play. Savages rocks.

  • Merissa S.

I had the best tenderloin here! The food is the best bar food around. The only downside to the place is they get incredibly busy and sometimes it'll take a long time to get your food or drinks. Savage's is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Muncie!

We are back. This time, we took our oldest son. He was amazed at the prices. He is living in Chicago these days and he said the same things in the Lincoln/Logan Square neighborhoods would be at least three times as much. Tonight, I tried the french fried pickles. Very good and about half the price another restaurant in the BSU Village area. We ordered the Muncie Melt, Fish and Chips, and Sloppy Joe. Other than the Sloppy joe being cold, we were quite happy. The "joe" got fixed pronto by the addition of a few microwaves. At 8 pm, on a Thursday, there was no place to sit, or even to wait. Luckily, a table of friends was just getting ready to leave when we arrived. Still more things to try on the menu.........

GREAT PLACE! Great food and beer/wine, soft drinks at great prices. Also, usually great service.

  • Megan J.

I have been going here at least 5 or more times a month for the past year and a half. With that being said, this is my favorite place in Muncie. If I'm not getting food I'm getting beer. They have a great rotating beer selection as well as wine and ciders. Almost every day there is a special on food and beer. I recommend: the beer battered tenderloin (which is huge) and the Ruben sandwich. My boyfriend would recommend the olive burger, the midway meal, or the fish and chips. But really all of the food is awesome! Oh and everything is al la carte, just an FYI your burger won't come with fries unless you order it.

    (5)
  • Sonny W.

This is a great local place, and I say this as someone who doesn't drink beer! I'm told the beer selection is good...Not as wide as some other local places, but much more than sufficient. The food is the reason I keep coming back! The burgers and wraps are awesome, and their pizza is pretty good as well! The atmosphere is laid back, but not boring. There are times when it's packed, but most of the time, there's a healthy-without-being-overwhelming crowd on hand. It's certainly much better than the "student" bars in the area.

    (5)
  • Nikol P.

I give it 4 stars because Jessie lee's brother is here. But, it's been a long wait for a beer. I could go on all day about the lighting issues and how one consultation with me could change the entire vibe in here. Service is the slowest service I may have ever had, but I still like it in here. So there.

  • Robert K.

Prices are great. Service is fantastic. Food is okay. Appetizers are better than entrees like burgers. There are pool tables and super cheap beer. If you are looking for a cheap quality bar, this is your place in downtown Muncie.

  • Cory S.

Went here for first time on a Thursday . It was pretty full compared to other restaurants in town as for the time we went. The prices are decent as far as food goes and the only complaint I would have is the initial wait to be greeted and take our drink orders. It was seat yourself and we weighted 10-15 to be acknowledged as well as another table who entered after us. Once an employee came over he said he had seen us waiting but assumed someone else had taken care of us. However that's not enough to keep me from returning as the rest of the time was enjoyable.

  • Benny V.

Savage's rules. My wife and I enjoy it, my parents have started going there every week, and my grandmother even enjoyed it when we took her. The staff is always friendly and the food is good. Lots of parking available downtown nearby and Savage's is also bicycle friendly. By far my favorite place to go downtown. They have a good beer selection that is reasonably priced and PBR is always on tap. They do get busy, which makes it difficult to find seating for larger groups on the weekend. Go have some beers and give them your money.

My neighbor and I went to Savage's Ale House last evening, and "Samantha" was extremely rude to us. When I messaged the owner about the incident, he responded, "Savage's Ale House most likely isn't the right choice for (you)." The owner never did apologize for "Samantha's" rude behavior. He must think he's Michael Jeffries from Abercrombie & Fitch, who said, "In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don't belong [in our clothes], and they can't belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely." Joel Savage is the Michael Jeffries of dive bars. The owner's response to my rating is inaccurate on two accounts. One, I never argued legalities...I never argued at all. When she said I was violating health codes, I simply told "Samantha" that I used to think the same thing about health codes, but learned that it was not the case." I even offered to show her a letter from the department of health, but when I did, she refused. Two, we were never asked to leave. "Samantha" said, "I'm not comfortable serving you." She then turned away and walked off, leaving my neighbor and I sitting at the table. I understand a business is allowed to set any policy it wants (even if it doesn't make any business sense). However, one would expect any such policies to be communicated to customers before they enter the business. This was not the case. We were confronted by "Samantha" in a rude and unprofessional manner after we were already seated.

It may be a Hipster Mecca, but if you can look past the plaid shirts, ironic tattoos, and the thick black-framed glasses you'll love it here. Best drunk food in town, and even when you're sober it's pretty damn good. Only caveat is that there isn't a ton of seating, but it's a good time to make acquaintances, and use them for their table. No liquor served here. If you want your cocktails or the skanky stereotypical cranberry vodka, go down to the fucking Village. This is a place for chilling and getting smashed. It's also the place where you finish your night, with more beer and biscuits and gravy.

Savage's is a great dive with a huge selection of beer. They have a wide variety of food, all delicious and at a great price. Wait staff can be a bit lacking at times, but it's worth the wait. The barkeep was great though and very knowledgeable about what they offered. The atmosphere is great, very comfortable. One TV at the end of the bar, muted, with music playing in the background. Usually filled with hipsters and on the quieter side so you don't have to yell across the table. I will definitely be back!

  • M G.

I give two stars, but only out of benevolence because the breaded tenderloin was somewhat good. Here's the issues with my visit: 1. There was only one waitress when we were there, so the service sucked. 2. The fried pickles were fried until they were hard. (That might have been why it took over 35 minutes to get the food--to get the pickles that hard has to take a great deal of time.) 3. The food took so long to come out of the kitchen that I would have liked to had my iced tea filled up after it ran dry--it seems reasonable that it could be filled since the waitress was filling the drink request right next to us several times. Rather disappointing for our first visit... and last.

savage's ale house is a very low key & mellow bar. they have a pretty good menu and a great selection of beer. i know everyone was pumped to see PBR on draft. if you're ever in muncie, be sure to check this place out.

As another Muncie bar/venue owner I feel no shame in telling anyone that Savage's is the best bar in town. Hands down best overall combination of atmosphere, food, drink and service. Great food and a large selection of craft beer all at very fair prices. The space can be a bit crowded during rush hours, but if you avoid the busiest times then it's always nice to be able to strike up a conversation with any of their excellent staff and enjoy a pint of great beer in a very laid back environment. Always some diverse music playing and the game room gives those looking for more than just great food something to do. Savage's is a community dive and services many locals who choose to walk or ride bikes, so though the parking may seem limited after a visit or two you've got it figured out. For those of you who enjoy a lighter fare the black bean burger and hummus appetizer can't be beat, while the reuben or chicken sandwich with fries are a great value for the money. The perfect 'tweener for Muncie's downtown and BSU/Village community, two thumbs up, 5 star, 10 of 10! May have to just head there now...

Brought my friend with a service dog because of my past good experience. Staff harassed us about the dog insisting that he show a license (which under federal law does not exist and States who used to have them stopped {which he did have when they were issued} because it was violating the law see ada.gov/service_animals_… ). Ruined the experience despite my friend pulling up the website on his i-phone and insisting they read it. This business deserves to go out of business for it's clear flaunting of the law and discrimination of the disabled. Remember this poem: First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me. By Martin-Niemöller

#1 hangout in downtown Muncie. There is no host, so seat yourself if you see a table. Food is pretty good, I am a big fan of the veggie burger and the fries are great. I'm not a huge beer drinker, so I'm THAT girl that always asks for wine, but they have a small solid selection and big pours. On the beer front, the husband said last week that he couldn't come home right after work to eat the pot roast I had made because he had to go to Savages to try Hopslam. A big deal for beer lovers that Savages was on the list of this limited release brew. Staff do not hover, they let you enjoy your drinks and food. If you want a place the locals go where you won't be annoyed by giggly undergrads, go to Savages.

It's everything I have come to expect from a well-run neighborhood bar and more. Actually, I would go so far as to say that Savage's has spoiled me in terms of the quality and service for as affordable as it is. The service is always top notch whether it's empty or packed. I don't know of many places that offer a decent meal and beer(s) for under $10 and even though the price point is low, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Simply put, Savage's has standards and consistency.

Savage's Ale House is a great little pub. Full of hundreds of options to suit your brew taste ... it's independently owned and operated and for the size of the place, they sure crank out fantastic food. I've been to Savage's many times. Never a disappointment. Joel Savage aims to please and goes beyond the extra mile to do so. I recently sent Joel a note via facebook indicating that I'd love to see him carry Kronenbourg 1664 - a French ale that I enjoy ... and in less than two weeks, Joel sent me a private message that they now have it in stock and waiting for me. Customer service is something Savage's holds in high regard and they deliver flawlessly. The most recent food item I had was the grilled tenderloin sandwich. It's BY FAR the best around. Thick, flavorful and piping hot when it reaches the table. My favorite sinful pleasure ... the crinkle cut fries. No place in town has them like Savage's serves. Golden brown, crunchy and very hot! These aren't greasy bar fries ... they're perfectly prepared ... and the flavor is amazing. The best deal on their menu -- Biscuits and Gravy .. homemade!! for $2! A very healthy 2 biscuit portion smothered in sausage gravy with incredible flavor. There's nothing you can order anywhere else for $2 anywhere around and feel you just ate food prepared by your grandmother. Seriously, this is a phenomenal deal and fantastic dish. The atmosphere at Savage's is like an old style pub. No frills other than the large flat screen at one end of the establishment, typically muted and music playing from what always seems like vinyl which is great! Joel and his team at Savage's never fail to please ... excellent food from a very extensive menu and wide range of brews - import, draft, etc.

This bar is a brand new addition to downtown Muncie, and it's already a hot spot for young and old alike! Ok so I know it says not to review if you know the owners, but it's Muncie! Everyone knows everyone here! So anyway back to my review. I came back to my old college town just to visit this bar, and boy was I glad I did! It has a great homey feel to it when you walk in, and the music gets you in the mood to talk with others and enjoy your drink. There's a pool table in the front room! They offer a bike rack and parking lot for everyone's convenience. Now on to the food and drinks. There are many different craft beers on draft and in the bottle. I think they are eventually going to serve hard alcohol, but beer and wine is good enough for me! They serve food until 2am! I'm pretty sure this is the latest you can get food downtown. And a lot of their food is very creative and unique. For example, they had a bacon jalapeno bleu cheese burger one night, and a hawaiian toasted sandwich with bbq, pineapple, ham and swiss! yummmy! This sounds like more than just bar food to me! And you can get fries, onion rings, or a SOFT PRETZEL as a side. crazy!! crazy good!! As for the prices, they are awesome! You can't beat $1 pbr and other cheap selections. It's really worth checking out if you're ever visiting Muncie, not just for the drinks, but the food as well. I will always be going here when I'm in town, that's for sure!

Food was great. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed on what appeared to be a typical night. I will return.

What has two thumbs, likes cheap craft beer and good, decently priced food? This guy!

Goddamn it, I shoulda had the first review. Excellent hole in the wall bar with something for everybody, with the caveat that everybody doesn't want liquor. One can select from around 8 draught selections and probably 60 craft, import, and oddball beers (yes Virginia, there is a Hamm's in a can). You can get a mug of PBR anytime for a measly buck, then bang your tankard on the bar until it's been refilled. No culinarians hold court here, but the biscuits and gravy are made daily (served all night) and the tenderloin, albeit not the traditional cracker crumb variety, is quite tasty and well worth a try. Nothing fancy, but delicious and affordable. The atmosphere is great - there's more Pabst breweriana than I've seen in years and where else can one hear Turbonegro and the Stooges flirting between Weezer and Guided by Voices? In Muncie, anyway.... The bathrooms are spotless and have locks! The lack of a rail at the bar and the somewhat sucky stools somewhat suck, but hardly enough to take away from the overall enjoyment. Good for what ales ya!

Great beer selection. Very clean (ALWAYS get good health inspection scores). The staff all love good craft beer and can reccomend good stuff. And the food is simple and delicious. They also seem to source most of their meats locally - which rules. Black bean wrap or buffalo chicken wrap are my favorites. Also - they do good local charity stuff. I love it.

Crazy good beer selection and nice assortment of food that only people from the midwest can appreciate. Plenty of Muncie sauce aka ranch. Even when I'm jetlagged, can't beat a Bell's. Savage's is a becoming a staple when I visit the folks, and nothing makes me smile more than hearing my grandma order the "Shed Town."

We 'discovered' this gem a few months back...can't believe it took us this long. Now, Savage's is our favorite business lunch spot, as well as after work. Great beer on tap, and the best bar food in Muncie, especially for the price. I love introducing friends to Savage's.

Been a long term patron of savages since they opened up. They always have great food and drink specials and a fun environment. The bartenders are great and very helpful try always greet me and my friends with a smile. No matter what the occasion a birthday, going away party etc., the staff and people of savages have always been great. Definitely my favorite bar around. I live in Indy now and make an effort to come up at least once a week. Do yourself a favor and check it out

Even among top quality Muncie bars like The Fickle Peach and The Heorot, Savage's Ale House holds its own. I like the others, but Savage's is my favorite. The owner Joel and his staff are always on-point in service and speed. The prices are especially affordable, especially their great selection of craft beer. Decor makes you feel welcome and at home. It's always worth the trip to Savage's!

My favorite bar in the world.... one of the biggest things I miss about leaving Indiana. The only (occassional) downside to the place is it's popularity, but the cheap and delicious food and great beer makes it well worth the wait. Great staff and great atmosphere.

I saw The Princess Bride on the screens, heard Pavement's 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' from start to finish and never paid more then $3 for a pint, including Bell's Two Hearted. I don't make it to Muncie often, but I see no reason to go anywhere else. Ever.

Thanks to the Yelpers for putting this on my radar! Woodchuck Cider Ale on tap!! (not a beer drinker - everything but) Wifey and I stopped for a quick lunch since we were nearby. Being first timers, we weren't sure what to get. She got the Muncie burger - I was going to get the chili dog with a side of loaded fries but our server, when informed we hadn't been there before and asked for his recommendation suggested the breaded tenderloin. I'm a sucker for a good tenderloin and he said one of the best as well as the reuben. Went for the loin. But I'm so tempted by the biscuits and gravy. Burger was rated as good. Solid B. My tenderloin was very good - wasn't beaten to death to a thin shred of meat the size of an old Cadillac hubcap. Thick meat, thinly breaded, crispy fried and served very hot - fully dressed. yummo Solid A-. Loaded fries weren't bad - smothered in nacho cheese w/ ranch dressing and bacon. Only complaint: got soggy quick. This isn't a gastro-pub and have no idea how the service would be on a busy Friday night, but I highly recommend for an atypical lunch in downtown Muncie serving up above average pub grub. Only complaint on the burger; it was assumed the order would be well done. Would have liked more toward medium but it wasn't asked on ordering. Love the prices - menu includes all tax so easy for the check calc. $18.50 before tip - including my Woodchuck. It's a we be backer.

This bar is a true delight. There's nothing better than going there on a Thursday night when you should be studying and ordering some Beercrastination on tap. The drinks are cheap and plentiful, the new barstools are way nicer, and it's just a comfortable place to be for anyone. You're not going to meet your average village bar meat head at this fine establishment. It has a protective aura about it that beckons douchbags and scorpion women to stay away. Food is sooo good too!

  • Taylor S.

Amazing selection of beers. A small but good selection of stuff on tap, most of it is local/regional: Three Floyds, Upland, etc. They always have PBR on tap, which is fine with me. Just about anything else you could ever want is in a bottles. Everything from retro-beers to Chimay Grand Reserve. Food is excellent. Selection of food is likewise. Everything from greasy pub burgers and fried sides to pita wedges and hummus. Order a Muncie Burger (trust me). The vibe is great. Classy, down-to-earth place. Most of the too-ironic-to-be-taken-seriously hipsters hang out at Be Here Now in the Village drinking Boxer, listening to crappy music, and getting their palms read or something. Wait staff and barkeeps can occasionally be a bit sparse, but that's infrequently been my experience. Despite that, they are always very knowledgeable and helpful. It can get crowded and loud sometimes, but people will usually make room for you. There is also a pool table, which is nice. Sports that you'd usually have to watch at home (soccer, rugby, etc.) usually get play-time on the tv, which is also nice.

We were in Indiana for 2 months for work. We became regulars at this place. As we continue to travel the country, we talk often about how we miss this place. The beer was cheap and the selection was good. The service was always great. I highly recommend the tacos. I had them every time I was there. When we went in for our final night in Muncie they were kind and wished us well. Love this place.

I stopped in yesterday for the first time for lunch. The waitress was kind and managed many tables easily and efficiently. I ordered the side salad which was good sized and very fresh. I also ordered The Shed Town Melt. It was chicken, bacon, cheese, ranch dressing on texas toast style bread. Amazing! I always ask for mayo on the side for sandwiches in case they are dry. Not needed. Best of this type of sandwich I've ever had! I asked about dessert. She said they just had chocolate chip cookies. Not that they need an extensive dessert menu but a couple of choices would of topped this great lunch off well.

Savage's is the best place downtown. Ever. They keep getting better and better: new lunch hours, new expanded/renovated facility, more bar space, tons of beers (bottles and on tap), and an expansive food menu! Vegetarians like me are usually SOL when it comes to bar food, but my god if Savage's doesn't have THE best black bean burger in town. Possibly in the world. Food is always hot and tasty, beer is cold and delicious. I don't think I've ever left Savage's with anything less than a too-full stomach. Everyone who works there is awesome. Everyone. Bartenders are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere is loud, but that's what makes it great! Always busy, clearly a beloved spot in Muncie. It's definitely close to MY heart.

Delicious food, great beer selection, nice atmosphere, and very inexpensive. A true beer lover's place. Many local/regional beers on tap that are cheaper than buying the same pint at the brewery of origin. They have weekday rotating food specials that are always a surprise. The BEST pub in Muncie. If you are contemplating a visit, DO IT. You will not regret it.

  • Merissa S.

I had the best tenderloin here! The food is the best bar food around. The only downside to the place is they get incredibly busy and sometimes it'll take a long time to get your food or drinks. Savage's is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Muncie!

    (4)

  • Stephen T.

    (5)

    (4)
  • Angelus K.

  • Ron R.

Enjoy!

Food was excellent. Bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers they sell. Good selection of local craft beers and cider. Plus PBR for some reason.

  • Chris Y.

My goodness how I miss this place since I left Muncie! The beers are reasonably priced, the servers are awesome, and the kitchen staff are super proficient. Best burgers in town for sure. I usually order their hummus, it's a pretty display and simply delicious!

I give it 4 stars because Jessie lee's brother is here. But, it's been a long wait for a beer. I could go on all day about the lighting issues and how one consultation with me could change the entire vibe in here. Service is the slowest service I may have ever had, but I still like it in here. So there.

Prices are great. Service is fantastic. Food is okay. Appetizers are better than entrees like burgers. There are pool tables and super cheap beer. If you are looking for a cheap quality bar, this is your place in downtown Muncie.

Good beer. Great food! I don't remember what I got but it was savory. I look forward to going back =] I went about midnight so the place was fairly thinned out.

Great Food! Great Beer! and the prices are unbelievable! I have recently discovered savages, and now try to go there once a week. Meeting up with friends and having a delicious burger and a beer is amazing at Savage's!

I saw The Princess Bride on the screens, heard Pavement's 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' from start to finish and never paid more then $3 for a pint, including Bell's Two Hearted. I don't make it to Muncie often, but I see no reason to go anywhere else. Ever.
