We were greeted (if you can call it that) rather unenthusiastically by a man. Then, he quite rudely said, no I put the menus back there when we followed him around to get a highchair. My gray haired mom asked where? And he has the nerve to say 'Where I put them". What a jerk. Had my mom not been with me, I would have left, but I didn't want to upset her. First suggestions. Good service begins with a greeting that is not a grumpy "How many? Is a booth alright?" and generally involves a SMILE. Then our server was not particularly cheerful either. They both seemed either very tired and bothered or ill, something. However when the server kept trying to put the food down while I was trying to clean up milk my 18 month old splashed, I had to say "Can you wait a minute?" After that I noticed a big difference in her. She seemed to perk up much more. Perhaps she was just so focused on doing the task at hand, she was forgetting the how it's done part also matters. She was very different the rest of the time I was there - and then became the only reason to consider going back at all. The food was nothing to brag about, but it wasn't bad either. They did do the bacon crisp as asked, but it was the somewhat thicker kind and I prefer thin and crispy. That's just a preference however. We did like that separate booth areas against the wall all had a little different theme going on (music, sports etc) and we thought that was rather cool and could be done better through the restaurant. Before we left I also noticed the front restroom was poorly maintained. It was very dirty and the toilet flushed rather slowly. As we exited I noted the large decorative duck was broken by the tail and noticed again how poor of shape the parking lot is in. I noticed mainly older clientele, yet they had rock/pop music. While I love some good tunes, not that loudly when it clearly just didn't suit the atmosphere. Additionally the high chair was not safe. I'm not sure why, but my little 18 month old could also push herself backwards - tipping over - against the edge of the table. It looks like most wooden restaurant high chairs, but I had to keep my foot on the botton rung to keep her from going over backwards. Lastly, I can overlook the parking lot condition and the food was good enough, but the attitudes and cleanliness need a major upgrade. There just is no excuse for being dirty and grouchy. Where's Robert Irvine when you need him?

My friend and I went for the Dyngus Day buffet and it was simply amazing. Excellent service everyone was so nice and friendly. Best polish I've had in a long time!!!

Seriously how do places like this stay in business? I'm more mad at myself that I simply just didn't walk out. The waitress was very sweet and did a great job but the food was terrible and so was the condition of the building. I would think it's a serious health violation. The place obviously needs a new roof. Lots of water damage. Many of the ceiling tiles were missing, stained and had black mold.

This may not be the fairest review, so you've been warned. I came here for a joint birthday gathering with 20-some family members of all ages, from seniors to small kiddos running around. I arrived midway through; my family was in the "back room" away from the main dining area. There seemed to be only one waitress doing most of the work, and she took my order after my mom suggested the fish. There were no menus around and I wasn't offered one, but I guess it worked out fine. My dinner was only $9 and included a mediocre salad, three "fingers" of beer-battered fish and long, skinny crinkle-cut fries. It all was hot and tasted fine, but was just sort of bland. The waitress occasionally cleared some plates here and there and dropped my check off (to pay at the register) without asking if I wanted anything else, plus I think she was supposed to give it to my uncle (who paid for everyone else). But hey it was only $9 (plus tip) so I did go out to the register and pay, where I stood for 10 minutes while the elderly man in front of me argued/debated over which coupon he should use. I think this place caters to the senior crowd, seems fairly obvious from the dingy, dated dining room, the low prices and the bland food. I will give the waitress some credit for trying to deal with 20+ people all by herself, that couldn't have been easy. I'd come back if this were the place the gathering was happening but I wouldn't seek it out on my own.

We ate a late breakfast at the Honker's in Mishawaka, and loved it! My companion had the "kitchen sink" egg & hashbrowns&6 other ingredients of your choosing dish, and it was terrific. I had the baked apple cinnamon pancake, and would give it a 12+ on a 10 point scale.....THE BEST pancake I've ever had! Food is good & prices are reasonable. Plus our waitress was great. We'll definitely go there again, and hope that you will also.

This Honkers is similar to its South Bend counterpart, although I like the South Bend one better. This one has an airier atmosphere, but for whatever reason it tends to be busier, especially on Sunday mornings, so it can take a while to be seated and served. They sell homemade greeting cards at the cash register, and I just had to buy the one with Jesus sitting in a clearing looking up to the sky. But he wasn't contemplating God the Father; rather, he was looking directly at an American flag waving in the breeze. If they had had 1,000 of those cards, I would have bought every one.
