Hacienda is the same in every city in the area. so this isn't specific to this location, but generalizations about them all. As others mention, this isn't authentic Mexican so don't expect it. If you like the following the go ahead and give it a whirl: 1. Ketchup to dip your chips into - not salsa, don't even try and call it that. Ask for the chunky version - at least it has some flavor 2. Everything tastes the same 3. Old El Paso style ground beef in everything - I don't even think Carne Asada is on the menu 4. Everything is covered in melted cheddar cheese 5. ABUNDANT and I mean ABUNDANT use of chili powder. Don't worry it's not all bad - the ranch is good for dipping - even mixed with the ketchup - table side guacamole is probably the best thing on the menu and actually has flavor. - They do know how to make a margarita and have several different high quality tequilas to choose from as an option

The host asked me whether I wanted to sit by the bar or in the regular area. Since I wanted to sample some Margaritas I decided to pick the bar. I sat there and waited. And waited. and waited some more. Finally a waiter came and asked if anybody helped me yet. I told her no. She said she would find my server, but thankfully she was willing to find my drink order. I waited some more for a frozen margarita, which shouldn't take but a minute to make but in this case probably took 10. Finally my waiter came right after I got my drink. I told her I'd need a couple more minutes, which she apparently interpreted to mean 10. I was ready to order, and finally the helpful other waiter (which wasn't actually assigned to my table) showed up to go beyond her call of duty and took my food order. My waiter only showed up later well after I finished everything and was about to walk out to find the manager. On the positive note the margarita was decent, and the food was ok (but not great). I won't be coming back for a while.

This unit, from the day it opened, was the weakest of the three in SB/MIshawaka. Foolishly, I recently gave it another chance. I even went in after a weekday lunch rush when it would basically be deserted. I chose to sit at the bar. The bartender was nowhere to be seen. For SEVEN minutes. Other servers came and got soft drinks. They all looked at me and not one of them deigned to let the dude know I was at his bar. Yup. Standard service at Hacienda - especially this one. I wanted a virgin strawberry marg. This sure used to be a pretty standard drink. In fact, it used to be one of the options from the slurpy-style machines. Now? "We don't make those anymore. You can get this daiquri-style strawberry drink, instead." I still don't believe this. But, it was true. He did bring me nice fresh chips and their ranch dressing is still the bomb to dip the chips in. I was exceedingly clear that I wanted a TON of onions for my wet burrito. Of course, being the cheap outfit they are, they charge extra for some more onions. Never mind the money I save them by having no beans or tomato on my burrito. A DOLLAR for onions! At a Tex-Mex place! Guess what I could not find in my wet burrito when it arrived after a ridiculous wait? Yup. No onions. I called the manager over and told her how the bartender was AWOL for long periods and that despite the fact that he actually input my order correctly, I got none of that for which I was charged an extra dollar. She said she "Doubted this was true." First I showed her my tab with the extra charge. Then I literally tore apart the burrito and said I would give her $100 against a $100 gift certificate if she found any. She declined. Lucky her. Given the myriad options available in this area, including a Chipotle less then two blocks away, one would have to be insane to ever come here, except for chips only.

This place stinks - food and wait staff. Been here a few times and will NOT go back. Big mistake to go back the last time. The food was lousy - whether you call it Tex-Mex or Mexican. I grew up in Texas and also lived for 20 years in San Diego - I know what good Mexican/Tex-Mex food is. The salsa tasted like a mix between tomato sauce and ketchup - no salsa flavor and zero spice. That's the first warning. The enchiladas tasted just like the famous wet burrito - which is not great. The wait staff was blase about friendliness and simple things like refills - they preferred to hang out at the bar together and chit chat. For authentic Mexican food, go to Puerto Vallarta by the Outback Steakhouse on Main St. Never had a bad meal there....ever. Tastes great and is authentic. Carne Asada platter is A+.

I prefer going to the House on Mishawaka Avenue. Every time I come to this location, it's just meh. Our server this past Sunday couldn't get anything right on the bills, which is a pain because you hate to be that a-hole but you want to be charged correctly. Like the food is the same as the other locations, I just feel this one is not as awesomely run as the House.

Mexican???? Not even close. Service is fine but the food is just bad. Low quality liquor too. I can't believe people go there.

Don't expect authentic mexican food. They don't claim to serve it, so don't expect it. But it is still great food. All of your standard dishes. Don't miss out on the chips and salsa....and the frozen margaritas! This is a favorote of mine. Plenty of TV's for the game If you like Tequila they have a respectable selection

Disgusting. Fake. Mexican. What you can call food. On the bright side, the margeritas are pretty decent as well as their chips and special ranch. The salsa is a bland, watered down bowl of minced tomatoes. Don't bother. Chips and ranch are good so one more star for that. Their ranch is pretty magical.. I bet it's laced with crack or something, it sure beats hidden valley. (even if you mix a little of the salsa and the ranch, sounds gross but trust me it's pretty good and addictive.) It's a popular chain in the area. I only come for the greasy chips. All in all I say you're really not missing out if you don't go.

The best thing about this place is the margaritas. A long time ago this was the best place to go for drinks and Mexican food but not anymore. The wait staff was friendly and overly helpful but didn't bus the tables around us. We were there almost an hour and the tables that were dirty remained dirty the entire time. The food was not good. The guac that came with my meal was brown and the refried beans had a film over the top of them from being under the heat lamps too long. Don't waste your time with this place and I definitely would not go back unless it was just to have a margarita.

Despite knowing full well that most of this stuff is microwaved and about as dissimilar to authentic Mexican food as it can get, I still find myself coming back. The chips and salsa are great and their frozen margaritas are stellar. The chimichangas we frequently order are extremely tasty. The line to be seated is oftentimes out the door - it's quite the popular haunt for many locals.

The food is ok, the service average, the prices not too unreasonable in comparison to the ok portion sizes. Everyone I meet in the South Bend area says this is the best Mexican restaurant in town, but I keep thinking back to my 17 years in Chicago and how much I miss the steak tacos at Big Horse or the massive burritos at Lazo's. So all in all, it's not bad for the area, but Hacienda is almost ALWAYS a disappointing adventure in eating. Their fish tacos are pretty good though.

Yes, I'm from California, but I'm not an authentic mexican food snob. I enjoy my taco bell. I enjoy my chipotle / qdoba. the hostess was not polite. the waitress was super nice. but the food at this place was just bad bad bad. best part of the meal was chips which were just mediocre. I've never had mexican food this bad, and I was damn hungry before the meal. I don't think I ate more than about 25% of the food. Taco Bell is like 3 michelin stars compared to this food.

Friday night is just too busy for a place this big with this many seats! Wouldn't recommend when they're this busy. Taking forever. Had to grab one of multiple dirty tables in the bar just to get a seat. Ten minutes later, our server arrived. The rest of the visit was comparable. No soda refills, slow food. Pretty much a let down considering they're usually a good place to come.

Food was excellent as it usually is at this particular location, but service was poor. She wasn't rude, yet she was very, veryyyy slow! Took her 10 minutes to greet us, never really seen her when we were eating ( someone else brought our food out) and took her about 15 minutes to cash us out. I left her a good tip seeing as it is the holiday season, but any other time she would have received 1.00.

This is not authentic Mexican food. If that's what you're looking for, you'll be disappointed. However if you're looking for a fun tex-mex place with good reasonably priced margaritas, this is where you'll get it. Desserts are good. Go for the top shelf margaritas with grand marnier - they're an absolute steal. I think on Thursdays, they have a special for $5. I always love the unending chips and salsa (it's not a chunky salsa, very americanized). Bean and cheese dips are tasty, too. And tableside guac. If you're going for a full course, the pork is the best stuff they have. The vegetarian options lack flavor, so you may not want to bring your vegetarian friends here if they're hungry. Good service and music isn't too loud. Atmosphere is kinda kitchy, but I like it.

Great service with a smile. They staff was better than the food. The chips and salsa, which is more like ketchup or tomato paste was the first strike. I ordered a tamale and a hard shell taco. The tamale with cheese sauce was delicious, the taco on the other hand was caked to the plate under a layer of cheese. I asked for another one with no cheese and they were right on top of it. The taco was ok, the meat didn't taste seasoned, but not bad. The atmosphere and the staff are clearly why this place is in business. They really need to revamp their menu for a more authentic Mexican food flavor and stop putting cheese over everything! I will go back for the tamales for sure!!

I love Hacienda. I have been going here since I was a kid and still go here and I'm 20 now! I always get the same thing but I will switch it up sometimes. If you have a birthday and go here it is a very fun experience when they come and sing to you. Also me and my sisters have a routine "mud slide" day where we come and just get the mud slide which is a hot cookie with ice cream on top. It is delicious. Some of the servers are not my favorite though.

Awesome Americanized Mexican restaurant! Love the chips and salsa and always gain a couple of pounds by the time I leave!

Cheap source of Tex-Mex food. Faux Mexican decor complete with canned, brassy sounding music. Most of the food is palatable and filling, though serving sizes have been noticeably shrinking over the last couple of years. Endless basket of nacho chips and salsa is a plus. Affordable prices is a plus. Inconsistently made main dishes, such as their array of $8-$10 salads, is a minus. Kitchen staff failing to follow simple directions, like putting no beans on a burrito, or putting on the wrong type of beef (ground instead of shredded), is a regular occurrence and a minus. Spotty service and long waits for drink refills are a minus. Desserts are good, and the mudslide can be made with Kahlua upon request. Do not order their shot-glass mousse though, too expensive for little to no actual mousse. They no longer offer virgin Marghueritas, which had been a favorite. Don't quite understand their attitude on this matter--a lot of people ask for them. Cheap, decent place to stop for lunch if you're down on Grape Road.

If you go to Hacienda thinking you're going to get authentic Mexican, you're wrong, don't do it. That being said, I do enjoy eating at Hacienda. I like the chips and salsa but am thoroughly disappointed at the recent menu changes. Whoever the person was that thought taking the Hacienda cheese dip off the menu was a good idea needs to be strung up with a frozen margarita shoved up their rear end! But I digress, I personally find the wet burrito very good, they just upcharge you for whatever they can, at crazy prices. The ranch dressing is very tasty for the chips and worth the money though, IMO. I also love the frozen margaritas here, great flavor selection on a daily basis with the regular staples and a flavor of the day that is usually amazing.

Ordered table side guacamole. The waitress said "You would order that, wouldn't you?" Wow. You shouldn't be made to feel guilty for ordering food off the menu from a restaurant. I didn't realize table side guacamole was such a ridiculous request! I won't go back.

I will never understand why this place is still in business. The only redeeming quality are the chips. I Recently had a chicken wet burrito and the chicken, while admittedly juicy, had zero flavor. I'm convinced that everything comes from a can, much like Alpo. Avoid this place like the plague.

Let's get this out of the way: Hacienda doesn't do "Mexican" food, it does Tex Mex. Now, I don't at all mind Tex Mex; the problem is that Hacienda doesn't do Tex Mex very well at all. The salsa is bland, tortillas subpar, and most of the dishes are rather uninspiring; their signature "wet" burrito, which I would simply describe as nothing more than a very dry burrito that is then drenched in tons of sauce that isn't very good, is pretty disappointing. Ignoring the subpar tortillas, their fajitas are passable though, and that's what I usually order. Unfortunately, the service is also quite poor every time I go. It isn't uncommon to have to wait 10-15 minutes just for our waiter to greet us for the first time, and the food, drink refills, check requests, etc. are also fulfilled very slowly - if at all. During one visit I had to ask multiple times and still only got my soda refilled once the whole meal. There are some positives though. The food is not expensive, the margaritas are good, and the table gets bottomless chips. I don't put a ton of value on these things, but my friends certainly do (especially the chips, it seems!) and that's why I wind up eating here occasionally. The desserts aren't bad either. I'm a sucker for fried ice cream and I strongly recommend giving most of their dessert list a try... although none of my friends ever seem to have room for them, no doubt as a result of stuffing their faces with chips!

The food here is just ok. My sister and nephews love the place and I love Mexican so I probably should not complain since at least it was not McDonalds. The food is not bad. It is just a little bland. I would like some stronger flavor. Hot sauce helped kick it up a little. I ordered the cheese enchiladas of course. The chips and salsa are ok. Once again lacking in taste.

I have been coming to Hacienda since I was teenager and I knew something was wrong the second my Mom and I walked in the door and saw how dead the place was for a Friday during the holiday break. We ordered the liter margarita to start off and found they only had three flavor, compared to the ten they normally used to have. For food we got the original burrito combo with cheese soup, and rice our favorite dish. When the food came the rice was raw and the burrito tasted of nothing but starch. Worse was the cheese soup that they had added cream of chicken soup to in an attempt to go farther!!! Our waitress was very apologizing and was able to get everything off our bill except our liter of margarita. After comin here for 20 years I can say unless extreme changes are made I will not be coming back.

Everything tastes the same. Basically, all enchiladas, chimichangas, burritos, tacos, tamales, etc., are just the popular Wet Burritos in various forms. There is no difference in taste. The enchilada tastes like the Wet Burrito, the chimichanga tastes like the Wet Burriot, the taco and tamales taste like the Wet Burrito. Just go to La Esparanza next door to Nick's Patio.

Okay, I have no clue what EmJ is talking about here. This is probably the fifth or sixth visit and I've never had any "microwaved tortillas". We visited (07/03/08) on a crowded night and were seated promptly. They can get very crowded though and the wait time can be long. If you haven't been at this location in awhile, they've also expanded thanks to the other stores around it dying off. We were greeted by our waitress with chips and salsa in hand. Those who know me, know I'm not a salsa fan AT ALL. Except at Hacienda. They puree their salsa and actually thicken it up almost to a tomato paste sort of consistency and I absolutely LOVE it. We also got a Chili con Queso dip as extra for appetizers. MK got an Orange Margarita and I, the standard Negro Modelo. She said it tasted like a dreamsicle. MK and I both got Wet Burritos (she got the smaller one) and we both got the shredded chicken. They comes smothered in cheese and a red sauce (sort of smoky, pepper sauce). As usual, I barely make it through the "regular" size one (but i did) and MK barely made it through the smaller version. Never any room for desert, I've heard the fried ice cream is fantastic. You should also grab some chips and salsa to go so you can have some to remember the next day. Lastly, if you visit the washrooms, make sure you use the air blower hand dryers. They truly were shipped in from NASA or somewhere top secret. I could see the skin flapping on my hands!!!

I really don't care for Mexican food and am not supposed to eat anything that is "hot", but l do love the unending chips and salsa. I came in only for a drink, but ended up having two of the margarita specials, which were excellent for only $3.50 each. Heck, then I had some boneless chicken wings and pizza, all were "hot". The only cool thing were the drinks. Oh well, the wait staff were great, and those drinks were very good. It wouldn't take much to up the rating, but for now, a three is what I feel is correct. Okay, I have now had a meal at the Hacienda at Indian Ridge, Mishawaka, and it was very good. My wife had her favorite beef burrito, and it was excellent as usual; neither was hot, (spicy), at all. Again love those nachos and salsa. I also ordered a liter of the strawberry swirl margarita, and it was superb. I give this visit a five star, average in the three star from the last visit, which makes it now a four star rating. We'll see if my next trip here improves their average.

The "FREE CHIPS & SALSA" was a joke. The salsa..... Not sure how they call it that. It tastes like tomato paste. Read more.....I'd rather spend the money for real salsa. The frozen Margarita was good. The burrito was not so good. No flavor what so ever. It had shredded chicken for an up charge. That's about all you tasted in it. My wife had the steak fajitas, I have to say the steak was great. But of all the sides available with fajitas, the steak was the only eatable portion. The service was exceptional. However I go to eat and the good service was not enough to fit me up. I will not return to any of these locations again. Consider it a donation. Word of advise, to go a real Mexican restaurant. It will be cheaper and better tasting.

I went to Hacienda for the first time in several months. I have always loved going to this restaurant. It is always crowded but the bar is open seating. You can avoid the wait in the dining room if you are able to find a seat in the bar. Hacienda is not authentic Mexican food but it's very good food! If you enjoy chip and salsa...make sure you order their homemade ranch dip or avocado ranch. These are a unique addition to the traditional chips and salsa. The bar area usually has a busy crowd and it's open seating. The servers do their best to get to you right away. Amie was our server. She was busy when we sat down but she said hello and said she would take our drink order as soon as she could. We told her we were in a hurry so we wanted to order drinks and food at the same time. She did a great job at getting our drinks out right away and the food came out a few minutes after the drinks. The server was running around and doing her best to work as fast as she could. The only thing I would suggest is a better way to control the open seating in the bar area. I'm not sure how they could do that but someone in the restaurant industry could do that. Good service and even better good. This will always be a classic favorite in the South Bend/Mishawaka area!!

First and foremost: This is not real Mexican food, and they know it! If you want authentic, go somewhere else. The white cheese/bean dip is awesome. White chili is tasty as well. I usually get the margarita and shredded chicken burrito. :o) Great place to kick back with some friends and catch up. Mudslide dessert is great for groups, but the last time I went, it was extra crispy. No mi gusta... hence the lost of star, but I'm not sure if it was a fluke or a new trend. I'm shootin' for fluke.

Here is a Mexican restaurant in Indiana. I was not expecting the most authentic food. This place lived up to the expectations but did not disappoint at all. From looking at the place from the outside you would not think that it is very big but looks can be deceiving. the place is quite large and open and it is nicely decorated. Everyone we came in contact with was very friendly here. I was pleasantly surprised with the salsa. I liked the pureed consistency and the flavor was not overpowering but had a nice little kick. I ordered the combo: Taste of Hacienda. everything was fresh and hot and layed out pleasingly to the eye. As I stated earlier, it was not the most authentic but it did the trick.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
