The brisket is my favorite thing they serve but I highly recommend never eating the sauce. Tastes like open pit :( what happened to homemade sauces and sides????

This is the best damn BBQ in the South Bend area. The story of not selling out their mother's secret sauce is touching. Easily they could market the special sauce. Service is always friendly and welcoming. The owner is always present and sociable. Even my kids love this place and they are very picky eaters. The only improvement I would make is the hours. Market your hours better and be open during those hours. Other than that we will be coming your way soon. Thank you for opening in Mishawaka to reduce my drive a bit.

My husband and I had heard about Frankie's from a couple friends. We decided to give them a try on Saturday, March 14, 2015. We ordered a full slab of ribs and the brisket dinner. We knew we were ordering a lot, but we have kids who eat everything they find in the fridge! After quite a while, our waitress let us know that they only had a half slab left. They subbed a polish sausage for my husband so he wasn't too upset. When our food came I was immediately disappointed. I had ordered the brisket with sauce in the side and it was drenched in sauce. Again, our waitress was nice and told us that the manager was taking it off our bill, but still... My husband's ribs were cold and also waaaay too saucy. Sauce tasted like bottled sauce. Fries were cold. Green beans were flavorless. Cole slaw wasn't homemade, so meh... Overall, friendly employees but nothing special about the food. We will not be returning. And the hallway to the restrooms is really weird! "Wallpapered" in fuzzy animal print fabric. Huh???

A few observations: most combos come with side dishes. Great. I order the biggest one. Ribs, tips and chicken. So then I get told it is the one combo with no sides. Makes sense, right? The biggest one. For $25 you'd think I could get some beans & slaw. I got the chicken and a rib tip dinner. First, the meat. Chicken was good. Done. Juicy. The tips were not very tender but good. Now my one big complaint: the sauce. In all candidness it's awful. If you like Open Pit which is what I think it is then I guess you'll like it. But c'mon, the days of there being like 4 BBQ sauces available are gone. There are some unbelievable sauces out there these days. Time for an upgrade. Lotta Bull, Killer Hogs, Sticky Fingers. As it stands it is good but not great. Next time I'll get the meat naked and go home and use some Lotta Bull. You should too.

Hadn't ordered since they were at South Bend Ave location. Excited to try for lunch today. Loved the idea of craft beer and barbecue, two of my favorite things. Ordered two dishes: Frankie's Platter (rib tips and chicken strips) and the half slab of ribs. Total of $45, approximately. A pricey lunch but it's been a rough week and I wanted leftovers for dinner. It was almost a total disappointment. The rib tips were the only palatable part of the meal. And for $18, they were a very small part of the meal. The chicken was frozen flash fried, essentially Tyson brand that you get at the grocery for a few bucks. The ribs were smoked: overly smoked. I love smoke. This was nauseating. The sauce was like bottom shelf grocery store. It was a bowl of sauce with ribs that were smoked dry and inedible. Faux-rib soup? No way. I gave it the two star rating because the tips were okay. I will never eat here again. Not only is it priced out of its market, but it is not good food. For the same price, the Prized Pig is appreciably better in all aspects. For a lower price, King Gyros is far better in quality of the ingredients (meat) and preparation. There is no rational reason why anyone should ever eat here unless you're feeling sadistic and charitable.

Best. BBQ. Period. Generous portions, fresh food & the secret sauce is to die for! My favorite things to order are the rib tips and the wings! Can't be beat :)

Made 2 visits to this location. 1st time for carry out. I stood at the counter for several minutes without being helped while they messed with decorations at the bar. Ordered tips to go and was very pleased with them, and the fries. 2nd trip we dined in. My guest got a pulled pork sandwich that was clearly reheated in the microwave. The bread was compleetly wet and soggy. They offiered to replace it and made a to go box. She didn't want another bun. The burger I ordered was ok in taste but it had so much cheese sauce on it that it fell apart and was hard to eat. Fries weren't good this time. Service was very slow and bad. They seem to have little concern for their customers. Too bad, I love BBQ. Way too many good places to eat to waste time in a place like that.

The two stars are for the barbecue, which was pretty good for this area. The brisket was the best of the meats. The service, however, left a LOT to be desired. We were brought our food and then completely ignored for the rest of the meal. When our meals came out, we asked for ketchup for our fries, which we never got. Our drinks sat empty, and if you've ever tried to eat a giant pile of meat with nothing to wash it down with, you know it's not a pleasant experience. There were three tables there on a Saturday night. We saw one waitress check on other customers near us, and then turn around and walk away without even glancing at us. From where I was sitting I could see two waitresses rolling silverware. I had to get up and walk over and tell them we wanted our check. They looked at me like I had three heads. When a waitress finally came to bring our check, I mentioned that our drinks had been empty for a long while. She didn't even bring the water pitcher back when she returned our card. I didn't leave a tip and we won't be returning.

Went last Friday night. 6 of us heard great things and wanted to try them out. I have to say I was shocked and disappointed in the ribs. First comment from one of us was they were so tough. Mine was tough and swimming in bbg sauce to the point it overflowed on to the table. With so many others serving "fall off the bone" ribs. These sadly were the worst I have ever had. Hard to believe this is the same Frankie's we heard so much about. We did not want to make a scene at the restaurant and opted to call and talk to the owner. He never returned my call. I'm a retired restaurant owner and restaurant consultant. Was hoping to give him a kind word. Might be worth another try but beware. The ribs should be tender. And order the sauce on the side.
