Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

What a find!! When the 9 year old boy loves it, you know it's a winner! Yummy and local!

This is a family Italian restaurant. They will give you fantastic food for your money, excellent service, and treat you as a member of the family if you come in somewhat often. It's quite rare to find such an establishment in this area anymore.

The family knows this is the second place we wanted to return to after flying in from Arizona. The pasta tasted even better then we remembered. We have yet to find anywhere in Arizona that can compare for the service, the friendliness, and the food. Everything is made with care and the flavor is there. In the whirl of visiting family we will make it back for the great pizza so we can renew our memories and our tastebuds.

Excellent food. Pizza, pasta, bread, were all terrific. Service was slow however. The sign at the front warns "Good food takes time" but we waited close to an hour from the time we ordered. However, I'll still go back but give myself more time. it's that good. One hint: they take resevations and you should call ahead.

Oh my! I've been hearing about this place for years and finally went with a group of friends tonight. FANTASTIC FOOD. The pizza was scrumptious, the Italian draft beer was delicious, lasagna, manicotti and fettuccine looked fabulous. Will DEFINITELY be going back SOON!

I really liked this place. It's always great to go to a restaurant that is family owned and you can tell they really care. I was greeted by Cosimo (in his chef's attire) right when I walked in. I am glad that we decided to eat early because many of the tables were already reserved. It was my wife and I and 4 kids. We ordered a large salad that came with meats and cheeses. We had the house dressing - very good. We orders a large and small pizza. That was more than enough. The crust was great, perfect thickness. Very tasty. Cosimo provides all the regular toppings but they also offer awesome things like their homemade meatballs as a topping. Our glasses were always full and our plates were cleared quickly. The service was fantastic. Even though it was our first trip I felt like family. I hope to up my review to five stars. I want to go back a few more times to try everything they offer.
(4)Laura C.
That was the best Italian food I've ever had! The atmosphere was family friendly and kind of romantic also. Susie was nice, very pleasant and great to talk with. We'll definitely be back to try their pizza next!

Reading some Yelp reviews ahead of time, I knew to forgive the location and decor, and to give the kitchen plenty of time. Those ARE things that affect my review, but I thought it best to say them first and get them out of the way. (The place isn't the cleanest, either). All of that aside, the food was certainly worth waiting for! It truly was the best pizza I've had in a long time. Thin crust (in the authentic-Italian way, not thin-and-crispy-American way), great sauce and seemingly fresh ingredients. Perhaps a bit salty, but not enough to be a bad thing--just noticeable. My wife had the meat lasagna, which I tried. Pretty good stuff! I know she really enjoyed it. Medium two-topping pizza, meat lasagna and two sodas plus tip came to $50 on the nose. A tad on the high side, in retrospect, but no regret either. We have some leftovers. All in all, the food was great and while the kitchen was slow, the servers were VERY prompt and friendly! This place is an easy recommendation for me!

Hands down the best Italian food I have ever had! Best wedding soup and portobello ravioli around! Cannoli was so delicious that I thought i would die from joy!!!! The food is great, the atmosphere is quiet and calm and the service was on point! Loved it all!

Great place. My boyfriend and I went here on a whim. The little place was packed. Dimly lit with interesting garb and decor. I liked the old newspaper clippings underneath the glass surfaced table. The place seemed short staffed for having so many people to serve but most mom and pop places have longer wait staff service, so I was OK with the wait for the most part. We ordered the pizza bread and the special that night the meat sauced lasagna. Everything was delicious. The wait time on the food indicated that it was freshly made for the most part and it tasted fresh too. The sauce was a little salty but still really good. I also ordered the Lambrusco, it was OK. I probably wont order it again. We saw a lot of people order the pizza which looked really good too. I will be coming back to this place to try that and some other things. Not the best Italian place but probably the best for the price. Decent, as bubbles would say!

Thanks to Cosimo & Susie for opening early for my Mom & Dad. They love the sausage and onion pizza but haven't been able to stop by for nearly a year due to health issues. Cosimo & Susie welcomed them like old friends
(5)Ron B.
Second time eating here. Both times have been outstanding! The staff is very pleasant and helpful . The food was excellent and they offer a nice choice of wines. I enjoyed "Susie's special"'moscatolli and it was delicious! I also enjoyed all the Notre Dame memorabilia and old newspaper clippings under the table glass. We will certainly come back when we are in the area.
(5)Paul W.
So so food. Lasagne was salty and not a very big portion for the price. Pizza was better. Garlic bread was dry and bland. Expected better based on the reviews here.
(2)Robert R.
Very "meh" in my opinion. My son and I went there because we really like Italian food. What we got on our plates was warm (not hot) and the flavor was certainly nothing to brag about. My lasagne is better than theirs. I expected a lot more.

Cosimo & Susie's is a little mom and pop-type restaurant located in the old Town & Country shopping center. Though T&C is generally a turn-off, this hidden gem is well worth the trek out there. The interior is nothing fancy - my fam was a bit overdressed for it actually. Dimly lit with tons of photos and sports memorabilia lining the wall, the restaurant is small, cozy, and casual. Service was great, very friendly and attentive...minus the 40+ minute wait for our food, BUT then again, there WAS a sign informing us that all food is freshly prepared to order, and it was definitely worth it. My family had the mostaccioli with meat sauce, cheese raviolli, meatball sandwich, and tortellon with vodka sauce and meatball. Everything was amazingly delicious. All sauces were homemade, and the meatballs were to die for. Meals here will run you between $8 (for a sandwich w/chips) to $15 for a special entree (including soup or salad and garlic bread). All in all, it was a great restaurant, a great Urbanspoon find, and somewhere I'll definitely return to. I'd recommend it for a casual dinner when you feel up to waiting patiently for a delicious meal!
(4)Joyce J.
We had lasagne and pizza. Both were excellent! Just finished the leftover pizza (it made a 7 hour trip home) and it was still good - even cold! Service was good and everyone was very friendy.
(5)Nick K.
Say what you want about the decor or how long you had to wait but none of that matters once you taste the pizza!! If you want to look at fancy decorations and table settings eat at Ruth's Chris. If you want your food fast eat at Mcdonalds!! I hate how critical people are about trivial things. If your used to pizza hut or papa johns pizza chances are you wont like this pizza. Chances are you have no clue what real pizza is so don't bother misinforming people with your lack of food knowledge. Fresh quality ingredients equals good food. If you have eaten Rocco's in south bend you will like this pizza just as much. Oh yeah never microwave pizza. For next day reheats. Preheat oven and pizza stone to 425 then put pizza on parchment paper on pizza stone and cook until cheese is melted. The cracker crust is out of this world the next day!!!

An establishment of this kind and caliber is an amazing thing to find in Michiana. I'm thrilled to have finally found this gem in Town and Country. Don't let the location and decor belie the fact that this is a truly 5 star restaurant with family style service. The pizza is particularly good and is very reasonably priced. We also had the ravioli which had a marinara sauce that was made in heaven. You can't go wrong picking this fine family establishment for your dinner. Just remember that good things take time...so be patient and you'll receive top flight food!
(5)Erik F.
Best Italian fare I've had since I have been in South Bend. I have lived here about 3 years. My girlfriend and I came here and tried the tortelloni in vodka sauce and a thin crust hand tossed pepperoni pizza. The vodka sauce was the best I've had. Wonderful complex flavor. The meatball that was with it was also excellent. The pizza sauce was sweet and flavorful. The crust was great, crisp. The toppings were top notch. I would be completly remiss if I didn't mention the service. I felt like a guest at their home, not just another customer. Susie was a pleasure to be around. She always was looking for a way to make us more comfortable. It is no wonder they have been open 22 years. Here's to another 22 years for them.
(5)Kerry O.
Probably the best Italian restaurant in South Bend. It's a tiny place, but the food is great.
(4)Catherine H.
We've been here twice, and it's a great little restaurant! Most recently, I had the ravioli with marinara, and it was wonderful. Large enough serving that I took some home, and it even stood up well to reheating. You can't say that for most pasta! Our food was fresh (real herbs - not dried!) and the service was good. I'd like to see a little more variety on the menu, but everything we've had there has been very tasty. We'll be back!

Food: I have to echo what most of the reviews say: best italian food in South Bend They had veggie lasagna...yayy!! Fellow vegetarians will understand my joy in finally finding good vegetarian lasagna :) It was flavorful and had just the right amount of sauce and cheese. I ordered a half-portion which made a satisfying meal. The bread was fresh and good. Service: The service was very slow. It took about 20 minutes for the waitress to give us menus and take our order and about an hour for our food to arrive-in the wrong order! I also ordered a soup and my friend ordered a salad. The waitress forgot our soup and salad and brought our entrees. We were half-way through our meal when she got the soup and salad....so there was no way I was eating it then. But we were billed for it anyway. I am willing to overlook the service and go back there because the food was good.
(4)Patrick R.
This is the best italian food in mishawaka/south bend hands down. The pizza is great, the crust has such a great flavor. The cheese is freshly grated and the toppings are always fresh. The rest of the food is great there too. The ravioli with vodka sauce is so amazing. The eggplant parm, and chicken parm also are very filling meals. A few time's we've been there Cosimo himself has come out of the kitchen to talk with us. He's a friendly old man who is always in the kitchen. This is a great family run business. I'd recommend it to anyone.
(5)Samuel L.
My favorite Italian restaurant in all of the South Bend area! My friend and I felt adventurous one day and decided to try a new restaurant, and I am so glad we did. From the outside of the restaurant, there is not much to speak of. But the inside is what counts. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. Everything was made from scratch and bursting with flavor. In fact, it was so good that on my first visit, I resolved to meet the chef, Cosimo, and thank him for the experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels very authentic (according to another Italian friend of mine). The service, although a bit slow (I'm sure due to the amount of time it takes to make great dishes), is very courteous. I was also pleasantly surprised by the great prices. If you're in the area and are craving Italian food, THIS is the place to be!
(5)Colin T.
Whenever I'm back in South Bend for a Notre Dame football game, I try and get a large hand tossed sausage pizza from Cosimo. He's still in the kitchen tossing pizza dough and pulling pizzas out of the oven. The restaurant is hidden in the corner of McKinley Town and Country Shopping Center, but inside the decor is classic Italian with red checkered table clothes and baskets of chianti. One word: Outstanding!

My husband and I have been making a list of Michiana restaurants we have heard about and have yet to try and the list is incredibly long, believe it or not. One at the top of the list was Cosimo and Susie's. As long time residents of this area, we have heard about this restaurant for years and never been. And trust me, if you weren't familiar with this place, you are not going to just stumble across it our shopping or running errands. Tucked WAAAAAY in the back of the Town and Country plaza off McKinley in Mishawaka (or right off Miracle Lane, if you take the back way in), you will find this little local Italian gem. I loved the look of it as soon as I walked in. Small, cozy, dark with lots of personal and Notre Dame memorabilia on the walls. We walked in and discovered that the booths were set aside for reservations while the round tables were open for all. We arrived at 6:15 so had no trouble getting a round table that seats 6 for just the 2 of us. We noticed a lot of regulars - people being greeted by the servers by name, one couple had brought in their grandparents to introduce to the owners, which I thought was very sweet and shows true loyality and appreciate for this place. The waiter and waitress were both incredibly friendly - we loved the touch of them physically picking up and walking over the specials board and placing it in front of our table to review to help make our dinner choices. We know their pizza, sauce and crust is supposed to be wonderful but really wanted to try their specials so we settled for an appetizer of their pizza bread. WOW - it was out of this world! Our dinners came with a side salad or soup and garlic bread. We choose the salads and got the house dressing which was very tasty. For dinner, my husband choose the tortellini and meatball with vodka sauce and I got the eggplant parm. Both were out of this world! The tortellini was cooked just the way I like it - al dente, not too soft, not too firm and the eggplant was so good! Not too mushy at all and the flavor of the breading mixed with the red sauce was perfect! Both dinners were very generous portions and we both have plenty for leftovers. We will definitely be back to try some other dishes and definitely their pizza someday. Our dinner specials were around $13.95 and $14.95 each but their regular pastas are very reasonable, most less than $10 and some are available in half orders. They offer a nice wine menu - I got the house red which had a rather fruity taste but a nice change from the usual dryer reds I drink. We are lucky to have so many great local, mom and pop restaurants in our area and Cosimo and Susie's is definitely one of them!

My wife and I had our first date here; great food and great atmosphere. It feels like what it must have been like eating at an Italian restaurant generations ago.
(5)Christina M.
Great little red sauce joint! I was here last weekend with my husband and daughter and the staff made us feel right at home. They kindly prepared a kid portion of mostaccioli for my daughter and brought her water in a sippy cup. My husband loved the lasagna, he said it was some of the best he'd ever had. I had the chicken parm which was pretty darn good. The portions are generous, but not excessive like most chain restaurants. If you have a large party or go on the weekend, it would be a good idea to make reservations as the restaurant is small. Also, if you have a visual impairment...bring a flashlight so you can read the menu. :) It's DARK in there! Nice family atmosphere, though. We will definitely be returning.

Everyone has that place in their hometown, the place you always try to eat every time you are in town. This is mine. Cosimo and Susie's is a quaint, family run Italian restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and damn good food. Cosimo is in the kitchen working his magic and Susie serves as the hostess and waitress. I always get the baked Fettuccine Alfredo. It is rich and creamy with a slightly crispy cheese top. The portion is so big I usually have to take half of it home. Others I've been with have had the eggplant parmigiana, spaghetti marinara and pizza. All with great oohs and aahs. This is real Italian food people with fresh ingredients, not the chain restaurant crap! There is simply nothing wrong with this place, nothing and everything right. If they closed I don't know where I would eat when I go home, really, my mom's food does not compare!
(4)Nicholas R.
My wife and I decided to check out Cosimo and Susies after hearing about this place for years. Upon entering it was a bit underwhelming. The tables and chairs really looked like it could use some updating. Our server (steve) was GREAT very welcoming and reliable. The menu was your average Italiano fare. We ordered the Tortellini with Vodka sauce and Seafood Alfredo and kind of both ate off of each others plates. Both dishes tasted great but after reading some of the other reviews I would say that the portions were not very big at all. We both left a little hungry. This was quite disappointing considering our bill came to nearly $45. This place is probably great for a prom date , first dinner or dinner with friends, just do show up on an empty stomach.
(3)Patrick C.
Another 5 star experience that never fails. Cosimo and Susie's is nothing if not consistent. No matter what you order, it will always be the best! I often vary my experiences by ordering simple spaghetti, baked pasta dishes or pizza. The Italian sausage is special on pizza as well as pasta. My wife is a confirmed aficionado of the baked mostaccioli afredo and orders nothing else (although she enjoys sampling whatever I order, and sampling, and sampling). They serve a bulk, peasant-type wine that is very dark red and extremely hearty. Can't remember the name, but it stands up well to the savoriness of the food and is worth trying a glass. My only concern is that it appears that there is no one under the age of 75 in the kitchen learning their recipes and methods. Enjoy it now!
(5)Executor N.
Carefully crafted pizza, the only one I eat in this town. Good for them, all the rest of the hot food is baked NOT FRIED! what about that... Best mon and pops in town definitely!
(4)Kinsey W.
I really like this place, and my family and I went there with some friends, and we really loved the place. I thought it was cool how once everyone leaves, cosimo comes out of the kitchen and tells stories of when he lived back in Italy, while drinking a glass of wine. Pretty cool. Great homey place to eat!
(5)Wink B.
Great food, wonderful service and atmosphere. An excellent value. Drink some fortissimo and chow on one of their specials. They've never disappointed.
(5)Kathy K.
Great mom and pop place. Lots of homey ambiance (go fighting Irish) and good pizza. A real foodie find.
(4)Jason and Lisa D.
We have been to Cosimo and Susie's twice and both times it has been great. You will not be blown away by the decor as it seems as a bit dated, but when it comes down to it, who cares? The food and the service is what makes or breaks a good restaurant, and this is where Cosimo and Susie's delivers. Not a lot on the menu, but they seem to follow the Gordon Ramsay theory of restaurants (Dont have a huge selection but make sure what you do have is Fresh, Authentic, Homemade and Delicious) and that is exactly what Cosimo and Susies does. Check their specials as they always have good stuff. Wait staff has always when nice and responsive and again the food is always superb. Nice to see Cosimo in the kitchen still cooking great food. Place my wife and I would certainly recommend. I cant remember all of what we have had to eat their but all of it has been good.

I was in visiting for the weekend from Chicago and was hungry for italian. I looked on YELP and this place had 5 stars. I thought the place was terrible. First of all it was dark and gloomy inside. The waitress was young and unable to discribe the menu. I ended up getting up getting the ravilo with vodka sauce...it was ok. The sauce was extremely salty. My family got the veal and it was a pressed veal...not good. The sauce was loaded with Oregano and again salty. Next time I would go to the chain italian restaurant in town...thumbs down for Susie's and Cosimo's. This comes from an Italian from Chicago!!!
(1)Kyle B.
Off the beating path in Town and Country Shopping Center in Mishawaka I certainly found a diamond in a rough called Cosimo and Susie's. It does not take much to get me to go try a new restaurant, but to open an account on Yelp and write a review it has to be the whole experience. After pulling up to the V.I.P, lol, parking lot in the back and seeing it was tucked away from all the other businesses, I did not know how it was going to turn out. Now do not get me wrong, some of the best food I have ever had comes from places away from all the chaos. Then we walked into a dim lighting setting, which I love. The place is full of sports memorabilia and a smell that hooked me from the beginning. After seating ourselves and watching the chefs in the back I was starving. Susie was our waitress and she was wonderful. I asked her what the specials were for the night and she walked over and got the sign for us to read better. She fully explained the specials and anything else that we had questions about. So I ordered my entrée, more on that later, and was torn between the soup and salad. So I ended up getting both. Now on to the entrée, I ordered a special called Mostaccioli "G", which is mostaccioli with chicken and mushrooms in a creamy white sauce. Susie said this dish was named after their granddaughter, because it was her favorite meal. And boy I was excited. The soup and salad came first as usual. The soup was Pasta Fagioli, which was good but not great. Now on to the salad, this came with the Sweet Italian dressing. It was just a regular dinner salad, but that dressing had to have some kind of magic in it. Two words, simply delicious. Then Cosimo came out saying he had to get some air because it was over 100 degrees in the back. He talked for about two or three minutes, and then he was back at it again. If you look in the kitchen and see an older man with the chef's hat on, you are definitely looking at a genius. My dinner came out with some garlic toast, which was nice. I have never met the owner's granddaughter before, but if they name another dish after her I will order it with no hesitation. This is simply one of the best Italian restaurants in Michiana. Do yourself a favor and try this place. Thank you Cosimo and Susie for making me feel like I have known you both all my life, and opening the restaurant up like it was your house.
(5)Philip D.
Been going here since I was a kid. Great food. Outstanding pizza. Yes, the place isn't the Taj Mahal, it is small and kind of dark. But the food keeps us coming back. Everything is made from scratch with love and you can taste it! I love the lasagna and ravioli, but I somehow always get pizza. The food is worth the wait. Go on a week night and you can get a table right away. Too bad this place is not more well known, or maybe it is good, because I hate to wait.
