When I was growing up here in MC, Truffle's was the place to go if you needed a beautiful cake. I'm getting married here in a few weeks, so I immediately thought of them for my wedding cake. Where else would someone go, right? I checked out the other reviews on Yelp before I stopped by the other day, and I have to admit that I just chalked the negative reviews up to one or two bad random experiences, however after my visit, I would say that they really need to work on their people skills. I won't say that the woman working behind the counter was outright rude to my friend and I, she just wasn't personable - it felt like we were making her take time away from something to answer our questions. I would ask her a question about a cake, and she would give me a short, yes or no answer. I've never ordered a wedding cake before, so I really had no idea of what I even needed to be asking, let alone how to go about it. I would ask something like, "so could I get a chocolate cake with marzipan frosting instead? And she would answer, "no, not really". That went on for about the first 15 minutes we were in the store. When my friend and I asked to try some samples of the cakes that they do, she said, "No, I can't do that". Is it that you can't, or that Truffle's can't? "I can't." Is there someone else I could talk to that could? "Yeah, but she's not around much, you can e-mail her." I could go on and on, but I will skip to the part where she told us that because I was only getting a cake for 25 people, that I wasn't spending enough money for her to give us any samples. Wow! At least she was honest. We ended up buying 3 little cakes ($9 total) that were "sort of like the bigger cakes" to try and get an idea of what they tasted like. Yes, they tasted nice. Nice, but not worth the teeth pulling I felt I had to do to get an idea of what my wedding cake might look or taste like ahead of time. As we were sitting outside sampling the cakes, my friend remembered that Arturo's bakery just down the street also makes cakes. I had a fantastic experience there, and am happy to say that yes, it can be fun picking out a wedding cake. As for Truffle's, I'm sorry to see it go downhill like that. I wish I could say that I would go back, but I will not.

I'm getting married in the Michigan City area and have been scouting out local bakeries. I heard a lot of positive reviews of Truffles so I was excited to try their treats. I picked up a variety of treats to have a taste-test with my family. Of course I couldn't wait to get home to have a taste so I ordered a few cream puffs and ate them on the way home. They were amazing so I couldn't wait to try the rest of the goodies after dinner. I thought the presentation of each dessert was nice. Unfortunately, we (all 8 of us) were sadly disappointed by the taste. Poor quality ingredients, overly sugary, and little flavor best described all 6 of the pastries we tried. And the cake in the lady bug was so hard and dry I had trouble cutting it. The cake and fillings tasted like low-end mixes and were clearly not made from scratch. So the hunt continues....

They made our wedding cake lo so many years ago, and they have been showing up at the local Farmers Market. Still they bring the goodies every week from cannoli's to the Girl's favorite cheese cake crowns.

I was excited to see they were open .I went in and the lady was rude big time the stuff looked great ,Of course I bought about 6-8 items there cheep enough. Boy what a huge disappointment .it was blaaaaa .I dont see why you would spend all the time to make it look great and skimp on the raw ingredients .poor quality fillings cheep chocolate and just extremely disappointing .If that is what your use to easting buy at the supermarket .

My fiance and I decided to make this our first stop in searching for the right place to purchase our wedding cake. Upon entering the shop, there was one customer in front of us in line, there were 3 employees visible and not a single person greeted us. After the person in front of us was helped and departed the shop, the employee who was helping the customer in front of us disappeared and we continued to stand there. Once she finally came back, we explained to her that we were beginning our search for a wedding cake. The lady called to another employee who was working in the display window and was CLEARLY annoyed that she had to leave her project to attend to us. She asked us our wedding date, again no greeting or hello or congratulations, we told her in May. She then curtly instructed us to return 2 months before the wedding with a picture. I asked if we could at least see a portfolio of cakes they had done in the past so we could get an idea of their work. The lady said they don't do that. We were treated so poorly, I will never ever go back there and will make my friends and family aware. It's too bad because the treats on display were quite beautiful and I'm sure they were delicious but we were so turned off we left. Oh, also important is that upon entering the store they have a big cardboard easel with copies of bad checks that people had written to them blown up and posted for everyone to see. You could see these people's names, addresses, telephone numbers, checking account number and routing number. Talk about tacky not to mention illegal! This place is a joke!

I was looking for a special birthday cake for my mom and wanted to get a taste of their product. The associate was vague about her explanation of the available samples (not free) and acting annoyed by my questions. All though I was very displeased by the attitude, the cake I chose, a bavarian filled with strawberry preserves was better than average. Also the marzipan was delicious. Prices are high and they do not accept credit cards.

This is a small wonderful bakery in Michigan City. I frequent on the weekends when I am in the area and their specialty....the chocolate raspberry ganache cake is the best ! It is so good, a chicago friend requested for their birthday for 3 consecutive years. I think all the choices are premium, ingredients fresh and prices are acceptable. The cakes on display are beautiful. On the negative side, I have found some products to be inconsistent, i.e. some times a cake filling will be MUCH sweeter than other times. When I brought this up with the chef, my constructive criticism was met with denial. Also they only accept cash, no credit cards.

I grew up in Michigan City, and Truffles was always my family's choice when it came to cakes for special occasions. Birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, you name it, Truffles is the best! Their cakes are delicious and come with a variety of tasty fillings as well as the lightest, not too sweet, whipped frosting. On top of the wonderful taste, they are also quite beautiful. In addition to their cakes, their pastries are divine. My favorite by far is the eclair. I always enjoyed this treat, but it wasn't until a trip to Paris that I realized how authentic this French pastry shoppe really is. The eclairs from Truffles taste exactly like the one I had in a small bakery in France. Delicious! It's a must-stop when I am home visiting family.

Fantastic! Their ingredients and presentation are top notch every time. I've had their wedding and specialty cakes, as well as a little snack here or there, and have always been impressed. Friendly and professional!

I tried to order 65 cookies for an event. They didn't accept credit cards, so I had to go there to pay for them and when I showed up, they had the event date wrong which the person taking the order must have written down wrong. The staff couldn't have cared less and just said that they couldn't accommodate me. No apology, no cookies. I walked out.

We are traveling and we always like to visit the local businesses. My friend and I went in to buy some goodies & maybe have a cup of coffee & visit. The outside looked very nice I was expecting a warm & professional greeting. We walked in the door & the young lady behind the counter had a look of disgust on her face not sure if she was just having a bad or what. There were no other customers in the store. Never once did she smile or say Hello, Welcome or anything she just stood there & looked at us as if she could care less that we came to purchase anything. The vibe was so bad my friend & looked @ each other turned around & walked out the door and went down the road to Starbucks where we were welcomed with a smile and warm greeting.. So disappointed I wasn't able to try some of their goodies...

We were looking for the bakery, my mom was visiting and I wanted to get her some sweets. However it was definitely a disappointment, service was meh, not a single smile... overpriced for that area, though I didn't mind. However when we brought marzipan, eclairs and napoleon, that was the main disappointment, overly sweet, loads of sugar and no taste... Better to go to local supermarket and get it for much cheaper if not even better quality.

The customer service, or actually lack there of, is inexcusable. The owner and baker, Jennifer, was extremely rude and threatening in front of my children. It was disgusting. The owner is so egotistical and downright demeaning that she will not be getting my business anymore or my family's. This is a shame for the city of Michigan City that is doing so much to revitalize the downtown area with so many lovely businesses. Truffles will be a huge stumbling block in this process. I would recommend Uptown Cakery, other local bakery, over Truffles any day in all areas: cost, customer service, taste, quality.

This has been my go-to for well over 15 years now. Fantastic cakes and other treats as well. It's even fun to go and browse. Nothing in the area can come close!

Being new to Michigan City we have been trying to support the local business with our money. We were so excited to try this bakery and had been looking forward to it! Unfortunately being greeted by the rudest employee when we walked in the door, there was no Hello, Can I Help You, or even a smile, just a scowl!' N

Best macaroon in town. The baguette with French Feta spread is A+.

Don't answer phone and when they do, not very kind or willing to help me out at all. Had to make my own cake. They do have good food, but if u can't change the communication problems I will never be back. And I'm not the only one...

The cakes and treats are good, but overpriced for the area. Every time I've gone in there, I've been met with surly attitudes by the employees who seem genuinely displeased that they must attend to a customer. If you forget that they don't accept credit cards, your reminder comes with an snarl. Sheesh, who knew that baking could make people so unpleasant!
