Food was really great. BUT, my friends and I got tired of waiting for our bills after an hour, and had to correct them multiple times, while given serious attitude. Service needs some serious work. Never again.

The food was delicious! I had the blue louie burger and I was sad to see it go lol! The service didn't thrill me or irritate me it was lackluster at best. You could tell they were used to their regulars and not too interested and new or visiting.

Some of these reviews are (for lack of better terms) whack! @ the lady who wanted to throw a party and HAD friends FLY in for a bar louie birthday bash...really? Your quite aware that the entire space wasn't rented out just for you? and @ the guy whose group of 14, you didn't want to inform your waitress that everyone needed a separate tab first? And how inconsiderate to want separate checks anyway. People should bring cash to large functions like that! Keep track of what you ordered. Okay, this wasn't suppose to be a review about the reviews....but certain YELPERS (bam, right in the kisser!!!!!!) :) Stop in for drinks with a good friend. Popped up on the bar. Got carded. Ordered over-priced drinks. Laughed. Left a tip. Done. Nothing special. The bartender never smiled. He did say thank you. I'd definitely come back for Wednesday specials one day. Everyone needs a little help on HUMP day.

We have gone here probably 4 times. Every time we go we either have terrible service of they screw our order up. My husband ordered a drink from the bar and wanted it "neat" and the bartender made it with ice. She didn't even know that neat means without ice!! Our last time there was a couple days ago. We walked in the bar. There were about 10 people here. Sat at the bar for 10 minutes and we were completely ignored. The bartender asked a lady next to me is she had been waited on, she said yes. Looked right at my husband and I and didn't say a word...ignored us! If u want bad food and service and bartenders who don't know simple terms....go here! My advice...spend ur money some place else!!! This place is awful!!!!

Loaded fries and Bloody Mary's are delicious! Hamburgers and tortilla soup were gourmet and perfectly plated.

In reference to other yelpers, here's what sets me apart from the other 1 stars around here. I'm a local NWI resident. I didn't have a party of 10+ and servers should have no expectation that guests have to act a certain way, when it comes to payment. Service is worse than the worst I've ever experienced. In complete disregard to the suggestions of my fellow foodies I gave Bar Louie the benefit of the doubt, surely two bowls of tortilla soup and a medium rare burger wouldn't take the entirety of my lunch break would it right?...RIGHT?! With a lunch crowd riot consisting of an astounding 3 other tables in the entire restaurant, I thought I was gonna be able to miss out on 45 minutes of staring into nothingness pondering the complexity of life while simultaneously dreaming that fresh angus cattle were being butchered in the back in preparation for my table's meal. But Bar Louie says "Fret not, Alex! We want you to day dream as much as our service staff does, and boy howdy do they ever, and they'll give you a shitty attitude to boot! isn't that great?" No Bar Louie...it's not. Let me tell you, when you have someone call in a togo order, to be picked up at the end of the meal, after being called 3 times (because the call kept "disconnecting") and then have your wait staff say there was no such order, and then to have our third party call you a 4th time where you claimed no one asked for the order, then promptly try to hang up the phone, without getting the order and THEN to have management come out and give the order to our table and act like nothing wrong happened, is downright asinine. Are you taking the piss Bar Louie? If you think this an adequate way to conduct business, it's no wonder your lunchtime rush consisted of approx. 10 people when you have literally thousands of office workers surrounding you. It really is a shame, their food isn't bad. overpriced for sure, but not bad. However there are practically hundreds of other options where I don't have to deal with BS service, which makes returning to Bar Louie on the lowest part of my priority list. Want a tip? Get your act together. Congratulations Bar Louie, you were so sh*t you got me out of my yelping hiatus.

Dined here twice now. First time was with a group to celebrate a friend's birthday. Good service and the food was pretty yummy. The next time I was in the area with my family, so I figured I'd take them in to give it a try too. Service was so so this time, but the food was still good. Not a bad place overall.
(3)Nick M.
Servers are lackadasical and forgot to bring our drinks. - veggie wrap was unedible and caused our guest to vomit in the restroom - service again terrible. We were there on Saturday with only 2 other tables. Took over an hour. - overpriced drinks for the region. $9 a cocktail are Chicago prices. Should be $7.50 at most. - I should say more, but I won't. However...if you are a new establishment make sure everyone is trained and polished and have a sous/ head chef who knows how to cook before you open doors to the local community. In my opinion do not waste your money. There are much better options nearby. To the managers: Take these reviews serious and make sure everyone is on their A game everyday. Yelp is how everyone makes restaurant decisions nowadays. Change now or you'll be closing the doors soon.

I went here last night (Saturday night) around 10:30 P.M. with my husband and a friend. Worst experience ever. Where do I even begin... First, I looked at the drink menu and I tried to order a few beers that were on the menu, a 3 Floyd's beer and a fat tire. They didn't have either of those even though it was on their menu. I ordered the macaroni and cheese plate. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I could literally taste the freezer burn. Disgusting. So, if you like good tasty fresh food and good craft beer you will not find it here. Second, there was a "Dj" there or whatever you want to call him. The sound was absolutely horrible. Very poor sound equipment. Then I had to hear ridiculous music blasting in my ear, I couldn't even hear my friends talk. Vulgar and raunchy lyrics such as "sweat dropping down my balls" "you make my pee pee go boing" "areolas" "I never seen an ass like that" and the horrible songs continue one after the other. Very inappropriate and annoying. There was about 5 girls from a Bachelorette party dancing to it, they were wasted. The rest of the restaurant cleared out and so did me and my friends. There was only a few people in there when I left. Nobody wants to hear that garbage. This place is trash and is only for trash. I just wanted to enjoy a nice dinner and have drinks and good conversation with some friends and I guess I didn't realize what kind of place this was.

I recently held my birthday party here. I honestly should have known from my initial party consult that this wasn't the ideal place. After speaking with Kelly, I changed my mind, as she was so sweet and accommodating. On the night of my party, Kelly wasn't working and that is when things went awry. Dustin, the manager, was the absolutely rudest person on earth. It took hours for him to give us drinks from the bar. He ignored most of us when we came to the bar. He never introduced himself or tried to accommodate us the night of the party. The general manager happened to be there, but obviously he had no control over Dustin. Dustin got progressively worse. He spoke very nasty to my brother, that I had to write this review. He not only treated me and my guests poorly, but he also treated the staff worse. I was embarrassed to have friends fly in for my party and be treated like second class citizens. The atmosphere of this Bar Louie is nice, but management stinks--EXCEPT Kelly. Take your business somewhere else.

New Clean Well Designed Space that has a open concept and with a menu that should attract a hip crowd at resonable prices. Great bar to hang out and people watch. We were in a large group of 14 that had a tab well over 1000 dollars when it was over. We were sat for a preholiday dinner after the servers Our waitress was training another server so the ordering and explaining the menu items did go well. Food deliver was long but that is expected for a packed place just minutes from holiday shopping, 6 Apps, 14 Plates delivered after an hour with the right timing. No screwups so the order must have been writen down. Food I barly remember now but as "foodies" we would have rememerbered anything under 3 or 4 star yelp. Check comes....1 check.... Well a $1180 ticket is delived to us without seat numbers. I look over at the most modern POS equipment anywhere and sort of laugh. Ok so we have her split the bill 8 or 9 ways and wait 45 minutes. She disapears for another 30 to fight the computer. With split tickets we still have issues. She bring additional items after we have said good and done and are signing CC recipts. Server gets in a fight with one of the parties over 1 last drink. Time to eat $7 the drink and say Merry XMAS....for $180 in tip. Well she threatens to call the cops, we ask for the manager. He ends up taking care of the situation with a single check half price.... So 160 in tip for a server that had us waiting at least an hour twenty to get the billing right on a pos system.

If you go wednesday from 4-7, you can get 1/2 off apps and flatbreads along with $1.00 longnecks. You do the math! The nachos are nothing short of plentiful and amazing. The buffalo chicken flatbread is also highly recommended, esp if you can get it 1/2 off. My only complaint is that sometimes service can be slow, even when its not overly crowded. Work often finds me in Merrillville and this Bar Louie is like a second home!

I have enjoyed other Bar Louie locations South Bend, In and Chicago. This however was just awful. Walked in at 2:00 pm to watch the Notre Dame bowl game. It was on most of the tvs. Waited far too long to be acknowledged considering there were maybe 6 people in the entire place. When the very surly bartender did come back it was like we interrupted her nap. Ordered a bottle of beer and a Guinness. Maybe it was her first day, but she should be taught that pooring a Guinness is not like other beers. Asked if the sound for the game could be turned on and was told she couldnt and the music had to stay on. Music wanst exactly my taste but was WAY TOO LOUD. We were hungry but due to the very rude, slow , untrained bartender and loud music we left. We did eat elsewhere and the two other people at the bar showed up there as well! Just wanted a few beers, a bite to eat and catch the game. Sad since the menu looked good and is a cute place. Tough enough to be in business but when you run out 4 of the 6 customers you have you get one star.

I'm going to go ahead and stick right in the middle with a 3 star review for Bar Louie. I do frequent this location, at least once a week for the lunch specials. That would be my 4 star rating. The food is always great, the servers are friendly, enjoyable atmosphere. My friend and I go for the lunch specials each week, which really is a pretty great deal. Service can be a little slow, but if we tell them we're on lunch, they are fairly quick to get us our checks. Now, the only reason I didn't give this a 4 star review is because I have been to this location on a Friday night before and the happy hour appetizers were edible at best. The service was painstakingly slow, and there was really nothing to set them apart from any other local bar on a Friday night. So while I wouldn't rate them a 1 star as I've seen in some of the other posts, if you go for the lunch specials, you're more likely to have an enjoyable experience.

Took my family out for dinner before a concert across the street. Ate at Bar Louie on 3/14 and two members had the fish and fries.....OMG what a bad decision as my family members had the worst case of diarrhea all night Saturday and Sunday. Called the manager and his position was it was not possible to have gotten sick off of their food. This was the only thing eaten that day for us. No apps, no drinks or salads were eaten just water and coffee. Would not bring anyone there again as that was our go to spot before the concerts at Star Plaza. The booths had to be cleaned twice, the glasses were dirty and the overall service was slow to boot. Never again.

My absolute favorite spot to come to! The food is delicious, the servers and bartenders are awesome and doesn't hurt they're pretty cute too. I would recommend the chicken nachos, and the California chicken club! The beer selection is great, there are 20 different drafts! I love coming here!
(5)Kelsey H.
I've been here a few times and have always experienced good service. They have awesome salads and the buffalo calamari is excellent. The drinks are strong and it's a great atmosphere to disappear in for awhile. Try the pretzels! Cinnamon butter is delish.
(4)Keziah C.
If I could give this place ZERO stars I would! The only positive thing about this place is the food is pretty good, BUT the customer service is horrible!!!! Ishmael the server is an idiot who charged me twice after I told him to split the check. My friend was unsatisfied with her drink, and told him she'd like to send it back. He ask who, what, when, why, & how before he took the drink back. It was like she was being interrogated for a drink that horrible. Then there is the other idiot Dave the tattooed piece of trash of a manager who had an attitude because it was him that made the drink and didn't like that my friend wasn't satisfied, he was basically arguing back and forth with my friend to assure her it must be her who is at fault not him. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Training is needed for staff immediately. Worst Bar Louie's I've EVER been to. Beware, you've been warned!!!!
(1)Jim M.
This is a brand new Bar Louie. The place is very modern and clean. Great TV's in the bar area. Not bad for Merrillville and probably the one of the better options in the area. I do agree that the service is below par and the food was just okay, but this isn't fine dining. It looks like they have some good drink specials during the week. I would recommend.

I went to Bar Louie today for lunch. I thought the menu was actually well done...lots of good options for all types of tastes. We sat in the bar and ordered: I had the seared Ahi Tuna with sauteed veggies and my friend had the chicken club. It took nearly an hour to get our food...the server didn't apologize for the wait, just said "I'll check on your food". She brought our food, again no apology. Oddly, the table behind us also waited (though not as long as us) for their food; the manager brought theirs out and apologized. My vegetables were not sauteed (they were lightly steamed, still super crunchy) and had NO seasoning on them, not even salt and pepper. The tuna was tasty, though unevenly cooked. The server brought the bill, with again, no apologies. I was here a few weeks ago for a Chamber event and was impressed with the atmosphere. With the service I received today, I won't be back. I can't even tell you our server's name, since she never said and on our check it just says "Server".
(1)Benita M.
I love the bar food. The Fried Louie is very tasty, the wings are big, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The seasoned fries are addictive. I have also tried their warm shrimp app with the toast points and I literally was so full from that, I could hardly eat my entree. The drinks could be larger and stronger, but it a nice place to hang out with friends after work, shopping, if you want some really good food.
(4)Robert R.
I really wanted to prove the reviews wrong but they were mostly correct. The service was pretty slow. I didn't time it but it felt like 30 minutes at least. I ordered the drunken fish and chips. It came with a plate full of fries and two small squares of fish. It must have been over cooked, undercooked or something I don't know how to cook fish but it was tougher than I expected. However, the taste was good and I liked the French fries.
(2)Ryan H.
I agree the service was terrible and when we confronted the manager he was rude. I will not be returning. 20-30 min to get our drinks each time we ordered and it was wrong each time. You would have thought after the first or second time we complained it would have got better but it didn't. The waitress blamed it on the computer and the order tickets. It was tap beer!
(1)Ryan W.
Good food, good drank. It sucks that the staff can't hang n drink w you like the other places. Lots of screens.
(5)Trent B.
Didn't have any issues while I was here. Good service, pretty solid food, and really reasonable 24 oz. beers.
(4)Ashley A.
I always enjoy going here to catch up with friends. This place provides a cool atmosphere, good food, and great drinks with great specials. Our waiter Shannon was amazing, he was very attentive and made sure we were very satisfied with everything. I couldn't have asked for a better time and waiter. I'll definitely be back.
(4)Victor O.
This place is all around terrible and I wont ever go back. The food is just about what you should expect from Chili's or Applebees, average at best and nothing to excited about. The service is the worst, I had a waitress who told my friend to hurry up while he was filling out the check. Furthermore, it took her on average 20 minutes to get a drink from the bar to our table, and she did not check on us often. And when someone from our party complained to management about slow and rude service; no compensation was offered. This restaurant is unapologetically substandard; and never again will I waste my time and money here!
(1)Edwin G.
I went to Bar Louie Saturday. The service is horrible. We waited at a dirty table for ten minutes before a server came over to take our drink order. She returned fifteen minutes later and asked for our order again because she was distracted and forgot. At that time we place a food order for mini hamburgers with tator tots. After waiting yet another ten minutes our server returned with the manager to inform us that they were out of buns and could not fill our order. We we offered another menu item at no charge. Our tator tots were brought out shortly after. They overloaded with jalapenos and I didn't have drink or refill to wash them down with. I proceeded to the bar to get my own refill only to be ignored by the bartender as I stood there. The reviews on this place are true . Service is bad, bad, bad. Is this the reason why the other location closed? I don't plan on returning. If you are looking for good food and drink and service I suggest Coopers Hawk.
(1)Dan T.
Was here a few weeks ago...decent beer selection but the service is the worst imaginable. Waited an hour to get an appetizer and when it came out it was cold. Great decor..if you go sit at bar and don't eat.
(1)Jason C.
Good atmosphere, good drink and lame bland food. But the specials on the food are good. Maybe that why it was so bad. I would go back though and try one more time.
(1)Lisa S.
I can't believe how terrible the service is here. I've been 4 times and each was a bad experience. The kitchen is INCREDIBLY SLOW - took 55 minutes to get two salads the other day. The bartenders I've encountered are unfriendly. I had a problem several months ago where they charged my debit card twice and it took over a month to get my money back. The 'manger' wasn't returning my calls and I had to just show up there to get it done. With a lack of good management it's no surprise this place sucks so much.
(1)joni a.
Terrible service. Our group arrived at approx 7:15 pm. Drink orders taken right away. They were having 1/2 appetizers so several of our group was planning to have that as their dinner. Waitress refused to take meal order at the same time. Appetizers were served and that was the last we saw of our waitress. We waited for over 30 minutes then began looking for waitress. Finally ordered our hamburgers - 45 minutes. Still no food. More complaints finally brought our food about 15 minutes later. All told restaurant visit of over 2 1/2 hours for hamburger and fries. Took a whole $2 off of bill. Don't plan to ever go there again.

WOW! After reading these reviews I really wish we would've checked yelp first. I've been to several other Bar Louie establishments and this by far was the worst ever. I was so impressed when I walked in. The decor is trendy and very nice. Unfortunately as soon as the sever arrived it all went downhill very fast. We sat down and I looked at the menu. Great selection. The server came over and she seemed annoyed to be waiting on us. My husband and I ordered martinis and then she immediately asked if we were ready to order, clearly rushing us. We had just looked at the drink menu! Then as soon as she delivered our drinks she again asked if we were ready to order. I ordered two appetizers to start; potstickers and cheese quesadilla. While both apps were delivered promptly and were tasty, we never saw our server again. We never got a glass of water as requested. While eating our apps we finished our drinks and wanted to order another. Had to flag someone else down just to get water. Our server never came over to check on us not only to bring us refills but to even take our order!!! We tried ordering a second drink but they never arrived. Finally, we flagged down the hostess to get a manager but she was working the bar!! Clearly that's the problem because there's no one to manage the place!! We had her print our check only to notice we were charged for drinks we never received. We paid the bill and left without even leaving $1 for a tip. Horrible experience. Do not go here read other reviews and take my advice to run elsewhere. McDonald's is even better!!!
(1)Aaron M.
Walked into the restaurant with no hostess just a sign to seat yourself which for a full service restaurant is pretty tacky. Normally not something to point out except that is was a sign of things to come! Server came by after 5 minutes or so. Again normally not an issue for a packed restaurant except I was 1 of 2 people in the bar. My sandwich I had was good but it also took about 20-25 minutes to get. Again not a big deal but it was lunch and no one was here! My sandwich was lukewarm which didn't seem possible since the second food comes out you would think they know right away who it is for. The best part was the fact that they have tater tots, which are impossible to mess up (but they were also lukewarm). If you're looking for average food with TERRIBLE service this is the place for you! I agree with the other user that I would give this place ZERO stars but you have to give it at least one star.
(1)Costi W.
This is a nice place to chill. We stopped in just to sit back, chat and relax. Our midnight arrival caused us to miss the band, who looked very old-school cool. Things were just starting to wind down; there was a balanced assortment of youngsters and the older crowd. One table boasted a group of loud cowboys (complete with hats) while the table right next to them held some smooth city chicks, fancy hair and nails and all. I think they cater to everyone. Service was laid-back, yet attentive. If cocktails are your thing, they had an interesting assortment--with the word "Bar" in the name, I guess they'd have to, right?
(4)Emma K.
Under normal circumstances, this would be a 3-star review. However, this is one of those rare cases when I think Yelp's rating is way off. 2 stars is very low for a bar with one of the best atmospheres and better food in the area. The first time we visited, my boyfriend and I shared the pretzels, he got some sort of chicken sandwich, and I got the portabella burger (which much to my shock is actually TWO portabella caps ON a beef burger). The pretzels were amazing. Entrees were pretty good (BF thought his was a bit greasy). Only complaint really was that I asked for tots and they brought me fries, but I didn't complain since both are delish. Service was attentive and a good experience overall. (I can't remember what night we came, but the entire bar as half off! #winning) My BF and I met some friends here a few weeks later for drinks. No food this time, but again service was attentive. A good selection of beers on draft. They accommodated us moving tables about 3 times without any issue. The last experience was when we got takeout. The club was amaaazing and this time I got my yummy tots on the side :) Boyfriend realized he had received the wrong burger when he got home but still really enjoyed it. Again, this would normally be 3 stars (would definitely be 4 except for the few wrong-order mishaps), but I'm just shocked by the 2-star rating overall. It seems like many people thought this is something besides a bar, but it is a bar and definitely has some of the best bar food in the area. We always had a great service contrary to many other reviews! I likely will not be in the area much anymore, but would recommend to anyone who is and wants a sandwich and beer.
(4)Ben W.
You know, I love the atmosphere and the menu, but I asked if we could do something about the extremely loud music and they told me that "heads up, there's nothing that can be done." Don't get me wrong. I'm a 23 year old, but it's too loud in here and they haven't tried to even help us enjoy ourselves by quieting their loud live music. Make sure you check their schedule. Also, my friend returned from the bathroom and explained to the table that the employee he saw did not wash his hands. I will not be returning to this establishment.
(1)Yum H.
Carryout has been consistently prompt and delish. Always get the potstickers and chop salad with salmon. The salmon is grilled with a perfect buttery crispy outside and juicy inside. The potstickers have that slightly sweet Asian "zing" and well-done texture (aka Not Slimy). Beautifully arranged and presented, even when To Go. See my pics of each and Enjoy!

On Thursday, May 28, 2015. I along with my friends experienced racism at the hands of the general manager Lester Young. At a long bar table that seated 12 four Caucasian middle aged women where seated. My party of sat at the opposite end of the table. We are African American, middle aged and educated ourselves. Clearly, there was an appropriate distance. Waitstaff and the other manager were dressed in black. Mr. Young was not. In fact, he looked like a customer. So when he came over and said to us, "Come with me!" He was stern. I asked why. He said because we where sitting at "their" table in the bar area. He tried to seat us in the restaurant thus moving us out of the bar section. Note that we had no interaction with the other party. None. We opted for another area in the bar which he grudgingly obliged. One of my friends frequents Bar Louis noted that when that table is reserved there usually is a sign--there wasn't. We were there several hours. After putting all this together I spoke to Mr. Young and told him that this was a case of obvious racism because he ordered us to another table. He said it was policy. I told him that was doubtful because he would have explained that fact in our initial interaction. I'm hard pressed to believe the Bar Louis has a corporate policy of racism and discrimination. Then he offered an insincere apology "I'm sorry YOU feel that way" which I refused. I told him that I would contact Yelp and the Bar Louis' corporate offices. We spoke to the other manager on duty who was appropriately dressed. Reluctantly, she gave us Bar Louis' corporate information. The food and the drinks were acceptable. Our waiter Brittney was exceptional. She had nothing to do with the incident. She was professional and friendly. However, Mr. Young could use anti-discrimination education. In the end it will hurt their business as the population of Merrillville, IN is multicultural and multiracial. This was the first and last time I will go to Bar Louis.

Service is excellent. I had the bonless wings as an appetizer. Wow! Great light breading and good size portio .Tasted and looked homemade. Had the tuna sandwich for dinner and it was very good. They have outside seating, and are surprisigly good for kids. I would put the band somewhere else, to loud for the outside seating people to have a conversation. Had to move tables.
(4)Melissa B.
I went here to grab a quick bite with a coworker one night. This place is a joke. We waited forever for someone to come over. There were 2 bartenders and it was dead! We had to flag someone over to order every single time we needed something! I know there isn't a ton in the immediate area, but there are better options than this. I would never come back here. The food is salty and small portions for the price too. They at least need to hire good bartenders if they are going to continue serving that.
