Best tomato basil soup ever. And the pie's good, too.

So travelling to Chicago and stopped for a quick bite at Baker's Square...ubiquitous breakfast skillet with toast. Nothing special but fine...just not enough time to locate something different. Good service. Substitute Bob Evans/Perkins/Marie Callenders and you have roughly the same thing.

Wife and I decided to stop in for a quick lunch with the kids and boy did we pick the wrong place. We each ordered a soup and salad combo that took over an hour to come out of the kitchen. It took so long that We started to question if they were growing the lettuce for the salads before they serve them. One of our girls ordered lemonade...the waitress brought her water in a kids cup. They forgot the fries with my kids chicken strips...I mean seriously...did the plate look a little empty when it came out of the kitchen??? The waitress also forgot my soup with my soup and salad combo. My favorite part of our meal was when she came by our table and asked "can I get you anything else?"...yes you can get me the rest of my meal. The soup only took 20 minutes to find its way out of the kitchen. Not going back to this one any time soon.

Host was superb! Server was ok...kept forgetting things! Triple Berry Pie didn't look like pic and lacked taste and texture. Coconut Creme Pie was worst than the Berry...Bhah!

Nothing fancy here, but it was good place for lunch and some tasty pie. I tired the Lemon Supreme, which was perfectly tart, creamy and sweet. Very good! Our servers were very attentive and friendly. Will certainly go back again.

Well the food ain't nothing to write home about, but I'll definitely take a pie or two. Typical chain, if you like that thing.

I think their food is a bit better than the average chain restaurant but it's still nothing fabulous. I would go here before most "applebee-esque" places but I can't rave about the food either. I am not fond of their pastas as they taste like frozen "hungy man" meals. Their fajuta pitas are pretty decent as are their sandwiches. Their pies are excellent and it's the main reason to go. Their selection of ice teas and lemonades are also very good and they taste wonderful. All in all it's an average place that's a tiny step above the rest. I wish I could give it an extra half star just because of that.
