My party of 5 came here today following the Purdue football game. For a post-game day this place was not too crowded; we were second in line and didn't wait too long. I like the kind of thin-crust pizza they serve here, and they have some unique creations. The smoked salmon was a bit too salty but not bad. The veganista was great. The antipasto platter was generally pretty good, but the olives were way too salty, to the point of being borderline inedible (I know that's how olives are supposed to be, but there has to be a reasonable limit). My biggest gripe with this place was the host (elderly guy with glasses). He was grumpy, impatient, and generally seemed like he didn't want us to be there. When our table was ready he told us, in an almost lecturing tone, that he already called us earlier (none of the 5 of us heard). They were short staffed for some reason, which seems rather unusual for a Saturday evening, but our server Jerry did a good job and was pleasant. I'll probably eventually give them another try, but until I get confirmation that today was just an anomaly, they get 3 stars. As of September 2015 there's construction on Columbia right in front, so nearby parking and the restaurant itself may be a bit hard to find. During busy hours you might have to look for street parking up to a couple blocks away.

Absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had or will ever have. Canned and processed ingredients off the processed food truck. If that was Jimmy's Favorite his standards are horribly low. Soggy and tasteless garlic cloves, bland pesto and powdered mozzarella paste disguised as the real thing. Awful!!! Update: Threw out the take-home leftovers.

I was really looking forward to having dinner here, but our first experience was bad. Our waiter told us he was new, so that could explain the lack of service. Sadly, the food didn't make up for that lack of service, though. We started with the meatballs, they were good, but lukewarm. I had a salad that was very small for its price and was served on a warm plate, I'm not a fan of warm lettuce. My husband's pizza was badly burnt on one side, so he didn't eat the crust that he usually loves. I wanted water, but our waiter forgot even with a couple of times asking for it. The space is great, I really liked the local art and was excited to see water colors from one of my favorite artists. The main dinning area has big beautiful windows looking onto the street, so the view and natural light is nice. The bar area had some character and looked inviting. I don't know if we will go back, but I'd like to see if we just went on an off night.

Lazy staff. Walked over from hotel at 8:20PM and place closes at 10pm Bar staff told me they were closed when I tried to order from them but said go to hostess stand. I went there and waited for 3 min before I asked a waiter and they said someone would seat me. Asked a couple leaving of pizza was good and they said it tasted like canned tomato sauce so I left.

This is our first time here, and we are very pleased. We ordered garlic knots, a side salad, and "the veganista" specialty pizza. All of our food was very good. It is nice for us to have another option when we want to go out. The atmosphere is very nice as well. We are glad we decided to try this place.

I was meeting a party of six for a dinner on a Friday night. You can only make reservations if you have a party of eight or more. My husband and I arrived about 15 minutes before the rest of the group was expected to arrive. I told the host that there were going to be six of us, but he told us he would not seat us until our entire table was there. He said that even though there was space to seat us now that if enough other parties came before the rest of ours that we may have to wait. When the rest of the party arrived, the host said he had to figure out where he was going to put us. I found this seating system or be irritating and rude. I understand the business model of wanting people to get in and out as quickly as possible, but I am not a fan of how the seating process works. On to the meal...the food was really good, especially the garlic knots & meatballs. I ordered a calzone for my meal. I was surprised when it was not served with marinara for dipping. When I ordered the marinara, it was a game changer--yummy! My suggestion for dessert is either order the lemon cake or skip it all together. We also ordered the tiramisu and s'mores calzone, but we're disappointed. Overall, I would go to Sylvia's again, I would just hope for better customer service and skip the dessert!

The local newspaper claims this place is the only brick oven pizza in town. NOT TRUE. Cafe Literato is better than these guys. Here is the reason. Service. We ate here with our two kids, someone who I believe was the owner came over to use at least 10 times obviously trying to get us to hurry up an leave. I recommend if you are a brick oven pizza lover try Literato's, next to Faith West. More than 1 brick oven pizza place in town. Having said that the food is not that bad, standard fare.

Popped in here for dinner while traveling with a group of friends. We wanted something local and away from the college students. This came up as a Yelp recommendation, and it wasn't wrong. So, thanks Yelpers! We started with the garlic knots, a midwestern favorite. They could have used a little more time soaking in the garlic butter to give them that soft burst of garlic flavor that everyone loves, but they were still tasty. I ordered a margherita pizza and it was perfect. The basil was fresh, the tomatoes were flavorful, and there was just the right balance of mozzarella. Service was fantastic. Servers take your order and send it to the kitchen on an iPod Touch. They also take payment that way, which meant splitting the check at the end super easy. Great little place -- definitely worth stopping in!

Best quality pizza in Lafayette area. It might actually be the only brick oven pizza in the area. We've tried many of their different pizzas, but we especially have loved Son of Jimmy (special), Jimmy's favorite (pesto and caramelized onions) and Bianco Formaggio (five cheese). They use fresh ingredients and grow many of their own vegetables and herbs. AND the prices are not bad at all. Somehow though the restaurant partially missed the mark with the decor. Despite good food and nice servers, the dining area feels a tad uninviting, kind of like a workplace cafeteria which turned me off from going as much as I would have otherwise (combined with my unreasonable love for hotbox). I must say though, when people from out of town have wanted to go out for pizza, this is where I've taken them. Hey, great pizza in a megh dining room is better than megh pizza in a great dining room. Sylvias is more like a 4.5, but the high quality of their pizzas, friendly servers and bartenders (and pretty great owners too!) make me round up to 5.

This place is a real hidden gem in Lafayette and definitely my favorite restaurant in the area. The pizza is incredible, with high-quality ingredients like hand crushed tomatoes and homemade mozzarella. The pesto based fungi pizza is particularly good. The service and atmosphere are relaxed and friendly. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

Delicious and not-your-usual brick oven pizza. My appetizer salad was mediocre, but my dining partner enjoyed his potato soup. Had the specialty pizza of the day which included a red pepper sauce, salami, mushrooms, and their "house-made" fresh mozzarella. Delicious! Noisy place with old tin ceiling tiles and you can watch them bake the pizza in the wood-fired brick oven through a large window. Reasonable prices for such excellent, definitely-not-a-chain, pizza.

Disappointing , I was really looking forward to it. Chicken florentine calzone was soggy and had about 3 leaves of spinach. Pitiful bag salad was served on the plate with the calzone making it difficult to cut the calzone but maybe that was because the dough was very tough. Service was slow but friendly. I will try them one more time, might have been having an off night.

I am not sure how this place has a 4 star yelp rating. The hostess was very pleasant. Atmosphere was ok. My server was new, so he told me. Ordered a Shocktop which the guy returned and said they didnt have. He recommended Farmer's Daughter ... Because that's what everyone seems to order he said. Did I say he's new? When it came it didn't seem very cold. I ordered a veggie pizza. Came with "seasonal veggies". I just didn't care for the partially cooked charred broccoli, cauliflower, and overcooked mushrooms with the mushy peppers. Didn't really care for the place as much as some of the others did.

I chose make my own pasta with creamy alfredo sauce. I expected when they said creamy it will be creamy.. But actually there was very little sauce in my the pasta. experimentalists can try their figs n pear pizza. Not bad.

My wife and I and our best friends at at Sylvia's on a Friday evening and enjoyed the entire experience. The food was amazing! I had spaghetti with broccoli, roasted peppers and sautéd onions. It was delicious and the portion was quite generous. I loved the atmosphere of the dining room. The tin ceilings and lighting made for an intimate feeling. The wait staff was very attentive and at no time did we feel rushed or hurried to leave. The only regret was that we came to early to hear the piano man. Maybe next time.

This was our second trip to Sylvia's. I was craving the "create your own pasta" dish I had previously. NO!!! They changed their menu and no longer have "create your own " as an option--not even upon request. Bummed! They also eliminated their pasta and pizzas of the day. Too much work to be creative? The Chicken Penna Italiano I ordered was good, and my husband liked his chicken fettuccine, so we'll probably go back, but I sure wish they would change there menu back. Or at least add a pasta option that had Italian sausage. All of their pasta dishes are chicken. My prev. "create your own" was farfale, Italian sausage, mushrooms and artichokes with basil pesto, and it was fabulous!)

We are new to the area and had driven by several times and finally decided to stop and check it out. Best decision ever. The pizza is top notch made with yummy fresh ingredients and perfect crust. The pasta is terrific, tasty, good portion sizes... We always take some home. Dessert... Yes please. We are always so stuffed by the time we get to dessert that we can't eat it there but we take it home for later and it's the cats meow for a late night snack... Or breakfast. To begin with, the service was excellent. The waiter was very courteous and helpful with the menu. I was never wanting for a refill on my softdrink and my wife's water was always full. I ordered the Italian Luau Pizza with the Garlic Knots as an appetizer. The Knots were very good, but I was disappointed in the marinara sauce, both in the taste (kinda lacking in flavor) and the extra dollar charge. The pizza was excellent. The pineapple sauce added a unique flavor. I'm not sure what kind of pizza my wife ordered (It was the pizza of the day). It was like a chicken bacon ranch but so much better. In closing, this is a great place for a night out with your significant other without the kids. The price is a little high, but that can be managed by forgoing the appetizers and dessert. I recommend this place for anyone craving pizza or Italian.

Sylvia's is hands down one of my two favorite restaurants in Lafayette. I have not had anything from the menu that was less than excellent. Their ingredients are fresh and the cuisine innovative. The menu is focused and reflects the obvious talent of the chef and kitchen staff. The restaurant can get busy, and the wait a bit long, but definitely worth it.

We came here with our family while visiting for my Grandmas funeral. The atmosphere is awesome, food and service was outstanding. And they would definitely have gotten five stars from me but they have no high chairs. Like I said we were from out of town and did not bring a stroller on our trip. So I had to wrangle my 15 month old while trying to eat dinner. Which pretty much sucked but the awesome food and service made up for it. Please get a couple of high chairs so we can come back when we come into town again!!

We were told there would be an hour wait when we arrived. Based on all the great reviews we stayed. The garlic rolls were great looking but warm. Would have been amazing if they were hot. The Margarita pizza was very good. Hot like pizza should be. We also ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were good. But again I am a firm believer that hot food should be served very hot, not warm. So the reason for only 3 stars is merely because the food was not at the correct temperature. It was all tasty but not to die for.

If you are looking for Dominos this is NOT it. Sylvia's is in a league by itself. The ingredients are fresh. This is not a mass produced pie. They aren't quite round....Sometimes one side is more done than the other....but it works. If you are looking for a typical Pepperoni you might want to try Pizza Hut....but if you want a one of a kind take on Pizza this is it. Great dining atmosphere. I try to stop here at least once every time I get thru Lafayette. Oh, Did I mention the presentation....The pizzas are quite pretty to just look at as well....I know I may sound over the top but you have to respect someone who does the mundane like it is art. Kudos....

Wow! I am definitely coming back. The food was amazing, the decor was clean and elegant yet simple, the staff was so friendly and helpful and the music they played was so relaxing (I love 1920-1940 music). everything about this place I loved. You saw the owner walking around and talking with people not just seeing how the food is and then leaving. Such a classy establishment.

Great food. Great wood fired pizza. Pastas and salads too. The house made mozzarella, sausage and garlic knots are a must have. Good bar with good alcohol selections. Wine selections are often very good and reasonably priced. It's really taken off. Hosts Dick and Wayne are great!

5 stars because they offer non-dairy cheese! You can make a vegan pizza easily by subbing in the Daiya cheese, and they even denote which appetizers and salads, etc... are vegan on the menu. Great decor, and good service. The drinks are always delicious there as well (Sangria!). It's perfect for date night.

We came in late, 20 min to close, and were seated at the bar. The bartender was great, didn't catch his name, and out of courtesy took our food to go. The Space Cowboy IPA was outstanding and meatball and Carne pizza delicious!

I've been here twice now and both times the food arrived quickly and the servers were friendly and helpful. The first time we had the meatballs, garlic knots, and Jimmy's favorite pizza. The meatballs were ordinary, but the garlic knots were tasty if you like garlic. I got Jimmy's pizza because I like carmelized onions, but the pizza itself didn't have much flavor. On the second visit, we had the Funghi pizza (mushrooms with basil pesto) and the Penne with vodka sauce. The Penne with vodka sauce and pancetta had a very nice flavor. The funghi pizza was also good. Their thin crust is very good and next time I will create a Personalized pizza. Many of their ingredients are house made and seem to be high quality, but I would like to see more items with stronger flavors such as spicy pizza toppings and a spicier pasta dish on the menu. I like the fact that when you pay with a credit card, they bring the machine to you rather than taking your card away out of sight.

A fussy New York brick oven style pizza lover who lived in Italy meets and marries an easy going Hoosier who loves Chicago style pizza - so where do they compromise their passion - at Sylvia's!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the garlic knots with marinara (reminiscent of Mama Orsini's back in Aviano, Italy) - but when our specialty pizza arrived - it was "every man for himself" - a "philly steak" type pizza that we watched being made by a master doughman. Jerry knew we were new to Sylvia's and went out of his way to explain, show and describe everything! He was delightful and charming - kept our glasses filled and smiles on our faces for the entire meal. I highly recommend getting there early and asking for a seat near the window so you can watch the brick oven melt your mozzarella!!! As you know I value SERVICE and TASTE over value, convenience and "foo foo" attitude that many of the chefs have - this place deserves a 6th star!!!

The pizza is fantastic. I've had 00 gluten pizza in the heart of NY so this place is pretty close to that. My only complaint are their garlic knots. These are not actual garlic knots. They're more like garlic dinner rolls. And the rolls we had could have used another 5 minutes in the oven. Too heavy. But the pizza was the saving grace to our experience. We had the cannoli for dessert and that was good as well. Two thumbs up for the sangria, too.

I loved their Jimmy's Favorite pizza so much that I got sick of it! But not to fear, I their Pizza Margherita tastes so fresh with aromatic basil, fresh squeezed tomato sauce, and delicious mozzarella over a crispy thin crust. One thing I wish was a bit better was their pasta menu. I always feel slightly disappointed at the options and specials. Same goes for the wine list. But overall I always have a great time here.

Sylvia's is a casual Italian restaurant featuring their brick-oven pizzas. You can order one of their creations, or get a pizza with your favorite toppings. The menu also features a limited offering of appetizers, pastas, salads and sandwiches. The pizzas have a thin, crisp crust and the fresh mozzarella cheese is aged on site. The Sylvia's Salad is a meal in itself, and all dressings are made fresh in house. The meatballs are what you would expect from an authentic Italian restaurant - they are huge! The spaghetti pasta is also wonderfully cooked to perfection. There are only two sandwiches offered - a sub and stromboli. I had the stromboli that is cooked more like a calzone, wrapped in dough. It's spicy but not in a hot way - I actually quite enjoyed the taste. The featured appetizer is a knot of dough covered in garlic butter and served with homemade marinara. If you are used to bland corporate Italian food, you might be thrown for a loop here, but this is a really good place for people who like real food.

Great pizza and lots of interesting combos to try. Love the sauce. I also appreciate that they are supportive of the local arts community, participating in Gallery Walk, displaying painting by local artists and inviting local musicians to play. It makes an evening of dining more interesting and fun. It's an attractive and unique spot to bring friends or visiting guests. And a very cute spot for a date for any age. Our server was awesome. I wish this business continued success!

Not super impressed with Sylvia's. First of all we bright our 1 1/2 year old daughter and they don't have any high chairs or booster seats, so she had to sit in our laps the whole time, not very pleasant, I wish we would have known they aren't very family friendly before we chose to eat there. The service was okay, not great. One thing we thought was really weird is that they take orders and payment on smart phones... So it seemed really unprofessional at first to have our waitress starting at a phone while talking to us, until we figured out she was taking our order. Then when it came time to pay they have you pay on the smart phone and stand over your shoulder while you decide how much to tip, kind of awkward. The food was good but quite overpriced in my opinion.

We found this place in Lafayette, IN on our drive from Chicago back home to Cincinnati. Sylvia's has a genuine brick oven visible from the windows of the dining room looking into the kitchen. The restaurant is comprised of a series of store fronts that have been combined into a single unit. Enough with the decor, on the the main event. The pizaa is served in a rustic style with an uneven shape and large chucnks of meat and vegetables. The pizza suace contains actual pieces of tomato pump. It was delicious from beginning to end!

There is not much that's wrong with Sylvia's Brick Oven, but there's not much that is right either. Everything felt a little off to me. The ambience is slightly strange- the restaurant feels more like a business center than a restaurant. The servers were over attentive, but also got details wrong, such as giving me the wrong type of wine. The pizza is fine. Not great, nothing I would crave, but not something worth knocking either. Overall, everything here is just average.

Such a sad night :(. This is our favorite place to eat. We always love this place. But tonight was horrible !!! Just a nightmare!!! First we get there and the hostess ( a big very unfriendly fella) took our name and told us to wait. What the hell???? There were probably 10 empty tables. So we were wondering why we had to wait (10) min. To be seated . Okay so we are seated and wait another 10 min. For our waitress to come to our table. We order finally and took forever to get our food. When our food did come we got the pasta we had ordered and appetizer at same time. Our other guest ordered a pizza We tried to wait for his pizza to come so we could eat together but we worried our pasta would be cold. The pizza sat on a shelf for 15 min before she brought it to our table. The rest of us had finished our meals . I let the waitress know we were disappointed and the pizza was cold. She told me to wait. We thought she she was going to take a small percentage off bill. We waited and waited. Then all of my guest got tired of waiting and went outside. Every time I've been to Sylvia's I've had great food and service. I haven't found anything on the menu I haven't enjoyed. I will say the meatballs are incredible. I couldn't believe how good they tasted. I decided to write this review after reading in the paper that Sylvia's Brick Oven is also serving everyone, no matter their beliefs or orientation. So that's great food, service, and equality!

Friendly staff, good service, good food, really enjoyed our time here. We had the Carni pizza which is topped with sausage and mozzarella that they make along with fresh basil and a few other meats. Also split the house salad, expected the cheap turkey and ham that most pizza places have but it had great meat toppings. Salad dressing are made in house, we got the Caesar dressing which was very good. Pizza was $14, salad was $10, both were worth the money and enough to fill the two of us up. Would recommend, will be back.

Was on yelp looking for a good place to eat in Lafayette on our way back home from Marion and it did not disappoint! Pizza was really good I had the jimmy added spinach and as I'm eating the leftovers the following day I had to make sure I gave this place my thumbs up! Busy place but our waiter did a good job dealing with our large group and pasta issue with one of my family members she was looking for a non creamy pasta? I can't say if it was good or not because I didn't try. Tiramisu also yummy! 5 stars for pizza!

Delicious pizza! Our table was directly in front of a window into a kitchen prep area so we could watch as the cook prepared our pizza in the brick oven. Decor is a mixture of classy and a garage.

I stopped here with my husband after work to give this place a try. I had driven past it recently and a co-worker mentioned he knew the owners, so I was looking forward to trying it. The interior is very fresh-looking. The floors are still a bit...industrial, but it was overall a pleasant environment. The red and white checkered tablecloths seemed a bit out of place though. We got two house salads to start with - I'm not much of a salad person, but I didn't have any complaints. Watch their Facebook page because they seem to have occasional promotions - by printing a post, we were able to get two salads for free. We ordered the Garlic Knots as an appetizer. They were good, but I think I was still tasting the garlic the next day. We had a personalized pizza with wood roasted mushroom and spinach. It was good, but I think the pizza could have used more cheese. I do really enjoy that they feature fresh ingredients from the Farmers Market, and this seems to be prominent in many of their dishes. I would have liked to see a dessert menu though! I don't think they have one although I didn't ask. There wasn't anything mentioned on the main menu.

Fresh and savory. Very attentive, friendly and knowledgable service. Reminiscent of NYC's pizza pies, the brick-oven flavor and texture at Sylvia's is definitely a unique and welcome addition to this community. Also, like the iconic NY pie, the sauce is made with fresh tomatoes, and some pizzas are topped with whole basil leaves, such as the Carni. Ah - the simultaneous taste-smell experience. The shrimp tagliatelle with artichokes deserved to be rolled around on the tongue. Carnivores are not the only clients who will leave with smiles on their faces, however, because they have versions of pizza and pasta that are meat-free. For dessert we enjoyed the house-made tiramisu and the Italian lemon berry cake made locally. Will be coming back for sure, and with friends!

Sylvia's is some of the best pizza in town. Their mozz is super fresh along with the rest of their ingredients. The garlic knots are AMAZING!! That should be a requirement for people to order. The winter caprese is also very yummy if you like beets, which I do. mmmmmmmm, beets.

I have been meaning to update this for months now, but I'm sorry to say I have just gotten around to it! We have been to Silvia's many times since they first opened, and I am happy to say they have worked out most of the technological glitches, and every pizza, pasta, and salad has been absolutely delicious. The roasted vegetable / roasted squash salad is seasonal (so it is almost always different), always uses incredibly fresh ingredients, and is easily my favorite salad in town. The pasta dishes also always use fresh vegetables as well (the gnocchi is wonderful!). The service has been good about 90% of the time (we have had joe slow/inattentive service, but the servers are always kind and friendly, and more often than not, excellent). Some room for improvement: they don't really have a dedicated host(ess) -- everyone is busy doing lots of jobs -- so you may need to wait a few minutes to be addressed. The wine list could also be expanded -- perhaps with some bottle-only selections. Otherwise, Sylvia's is an awesome place for a casual night out :)

This is a place that has creative dishes and more importantly the quality is always top notch. I've been here only a handful of times but can't ever complain. I'm pretty dead set on their meatball appetizer and chicken florentine ravioli. Yes they actually added more to the menu besides pizza. The ambience is nice and the fact that you can watch them in the kitchen is pretty fun. We don't have many great options for real Italian food here in town so I've been grateful that they have opened. You gotta check it out either way, just go early cause there isn't much of a parking area.

The pizzas and pastas were all excellent. They had a real brick oven for cooking the pizzas, and all ingredients were fresh and of high quality. They even brought us a free extra pizza of the day when they put someone's order in wrong. Loved the homemade meatballs. The service was great and the atmosphere had a nice character to it. There was a grand piano in the dining area so perhaps they do live music sometimes.

Love this place! Waaaay better pizza than the crap Hoosiers seem to think is amazing (i.e. Arni's and Pizza King, bleh). Our servers have always been attentive and know the menu, which changes seasonally. I was visiting Lafayette over Christmas and my Mother suggested we go to Sylvia's. She had gone before with friends several times and loved it. When we got there we were seated rather quickly by the window to the pizza kitchen. My son (who was 8 at the time) loved watching the guys make the pizza. The waitress, Chris/Kris, greeted us and asked for our drink order- completely ignoring my son. My mom had only gotten to order the bottle of wine before the waitress left. We eventually were able to order the garlic knots, which were delicious. My mom and son ordered pizza and I order the Chicken Florentine Ravioli. That was disaster. Everything looked great and they said the pizza tasted great. I cut my ravioli and took a bite to find it was still frozen in the center! We flagged down our waitress to notify her that my food was frozen and she said she'd take it back to have the kitchen warm it up. We asked if they were just going to microwave it and she said, "No, the kitchen doesn't have a microwave." You know what they do have though? Something called a salamander. It is like if you stick the food in a broiler. My pasta comes out 5-10 minutes later and the plate & pasta are scalding hot! I blew on the food to cool it but really, that was no use. The sauce had also changed texture. Anyways, I was able to choke down a few bites before my stomach started to hurt. I boxed it up and tried to enjoy the time with my family. We also ordered the Lemon Berry cake which was really yummy and easily split between 3 people. When my mom was getting money out to pay the bill and looking to get some cash out to give the waitress a bigger tip and she interrupted my mom to see if she needed to change. My mom had had it by then! My mom said screw it and we left a minimal tip. Side note- I think they over play John Mayer there. I probably heard one whole John Mayer album while I was there.

Well, having left the Hoosier State, this will likely be my last Indiana restaurant review in a good while. On moving day we decided, in time-honored tradition, to go out for pizza. Sylvia's had been open for a month or so, and the chef was a frequent customer of the farmers' market booth my wife worked at, so we knew the produce's provenance, at least. It's an airy and comfortable space with a professional waitstaff, cloth napkins,and classic/kitschy red-checked tablecloths. And a jukebox? Anyway, we started with garlic knots (simply couldn't resist garlicky fried dough!) and the caprese salad, and ordered the Jimmy's Favorite for our pizza. The knots were great, and the salad was fresh and lively -- I counted five different tomato varietals, including an heirloom green zebra. The mozzarella was not only fresh, but made in-house. And the pizza -- currently the best in Lafayette/West Lafayette. I've been a fan of Puccini's for the nonce, but there's new competition in town, and it's all good. Sylvia's wood-fired crust can be unpredictable at times, but it's generally a good thin Neapolitan-style base, and the toppings are unbelievably scrumptiously tasty. (And if their pastas are even close to this level, then La Scala had better up their own game.) No time or space for dessert, but the bar features a good selection of local brews including Peoples' seasonals. I'm kind of sad -- Lafayette appears to be starting a bit of a food renaissance downtown, and just when I'm leaving town. I wish them all the best!

First time visit to Sylvia's. Very nice space. The food was truly outstanding. Fabulous pizzas. The gnocchi was the best I have ever had. Service was outstanding, too! Cocktails were generous and more than reasonably priced. Finished with a marvelous locally made dessert. Can't recommend Sylvia's enough. Go if you have not and be sure to go back if you have.

When i first walked in i knew it was going to be good. The staff was very friendly. I ordered 2 pizzas to go and had a beer while i waited. The pizzas came out very quick and smelled delicious; I had to put them in the back seat do i didn't eat them on the way home. The pizzas cost a little more than i was planning on spending but well worth it. I really like that all of the ingredients are sourced from local vendors and farmers as much as possible. I will certainly be back soon!

I went to Sylvia's today for the first time for lunch. It was the restaurant wasn't very busy and we were seated quickly. We ordered the garlic rolls for an appetizer and they were delicious! I had a margarita calzone and chicken vegetable soup. The soup was really good and the calzone was so big that I had to take half home with me. The pizzas and calzones don't have a traditional marinara sauce on them. The restaurant uses crushed tomatoes.

One of my favorite places in town, and so far, the only brick oven pizza in town. It's the only taste of somewhat authentic pizza in the Greater Lafayette area. Fresh ingredients, many of them locally sourced. The tiramisu is made in house, and it's fantastic. Service is good and friendly. I always have the pizzas, so I can't comment on the pasta dishes. I think I had the ricotta gnocchi once, and it was not as good as the pizzas.

I wouldn't be able to comment on the food (google makes you mark all areas lol) because we walked out before we got the food. I hear it is very good though. The waitress we had was not helpful at all. It was our first time there and we were looking for some help on what to order but the waitress seemed closed off. Now I am not sure if they electronically take your order but if not that would mean our waitress was on her phone while we tried to decide what we wanted and then said "I'll give you a little time" and walked away because we didn't know what we wanted. The thing was we had never been there and were asking about serving sizes and things of that nature and although the waitress wasn't flat out rude she was very closed off and unhelpful so we decided to go somewhere else. :-( However the hostess was VERY polite and the decor was beautiful.

I waited 15 min between drink refills. I ordered a Stromboli which was strange, they used some kind of sweet cinnamon bread, didn't go well with peppers and tomatoe sauce. What a lovely addition to the Lafayette dining scene. I have been wanting to try this new restaurant and took a group last night and it was great. The restaurant itself is very comfortable and attractive. The service was excellent and timely. We had appetizers and pizza and wine. I'm a Boston girl and I'm fussy about pizza...I prefer thin crust East Coast style pizza. It was very good. The crust was delicious, the sauce and cheese tasted fresh, the pepperoni was yummy. My only downside was that the mushroom on my pizza tasted like it came from a jar, not fresh. Friends had a seasonal pasta dish which I tried as well and it was very good. The pasta was al dente, which is somewhat unusual in American Italian restaurants. Our server was friendly, helpful and accomodating. The place was busy on a Tuesday night, which is a good sign. Looking forward to going back!

Visited for lunch. Had a vegetable calzone (spinach, squash, tomatoes). Calzone was very good, not huge portion. Opted for the soup, mushroom risotto. It was just, ok. I enjoy quality food even if it is a bit pricey. Will return.

This place is just ok. Atmosphere is great, but that's it. First, the two older men busing the the tables appeared oddly out of place. Service was slow. Food was just ok. In house mozzarella was bland and the antipasto salad just run of the mill. Sadly, the best part of the ricotta gnocchi was the kale. The brown butter awful. We had the sausage pizza. Sausage was ok, as was the "hand crushed tomatoes.". The signature brick oven crust was a letdown, as it bordered on burnt(not smoked), and was void of flavor. This place was disappointing.

Unfortunately this evening, my love affair with Sylvia's has come to an end. I have always enjoyed Sylvia's greatly, even bringing out of town guests and recommending the restaurant and food to other people. However, that all changed this evening... My husband and I were seated in a bar table and after enjoying appetizers, pizza, and several drinks paid our bill. As soon as our credit card was swiped and I with a FULL drink of their advertised sangria, our server Erik, approached us and asked us to vacate our table because they were very busy and they were on a 30 minute wait. I affirmed to Erik that NEVER HAVE I EVER been asked to vacate a table before because a restaurant was busy. I will never return to this establishment again nor will I encourage/recommend others to support a restaurant with such poor customer service and disregard to a dining EXPERIENCE. What a shame, next time I want to be hustled out of a dining experience I will visit Applebees.

I have been to Sylvia's Brick Oven two times now. The first time the service and food were fantastic. We ordered the 3 Meatballs for an appetizer and a Pepperoni Pizza. The second time (Yesterday 06/20/2013) the food was fantastic except their salad and the service was great. We took my Dad here for a late Fathers Day dinner and my mom order ~$11 salad which had wilted leaves and tasted like it came from bag. If you have ever had bagged salad before you know what I am talking about. ~$11 for a salad that had wilted leaves and tasted like it came out of bag is ridiculous! For a ~$11 salad you would expect a fresh cut/hand crafted salad for that type of money. I debated on whether or not to give a 3 or 4 star rating. I am only going to give the restaurant a 3 star rating even though the only problem with our meal on our visits was the salad. We said something to the server about the salad after we paid for the meal but the server only offered to tell the kitchen about our issue with the salad. I probably would have given a 4 star rating if the server would have offered to cancel the payment and take the salad off ticket or gave us a gift card for our next visit. So you have been warned, do not buy the salad unless you do not mind paying ~$11 for a bagged salad in a fancy bowl. If Sylvia's can change their salad and their customer service training for their servers I will change my review/comments and the change the rating to 5 stars.

We've been several times now and are never disappointed. Everything tastes very fresh and you can tell the ingredients are top shelf. I've had the gnocchi with brown butter sauce, margherita pizza, shrimp pizza (summer menu item) and the Jimmy's favorite (garlic, pesto and mozz) pizza, and all were excellent. The winter caprese salad (red and golden beets instead of tomatoes) is also very tasty, although most recently the beets were a little grittier than i'd have liked. I am hoping the "farmer's pasta" options (which vary) will return in the spring and summer months. It's a lively, gay-friendly place and the servers are sweet and earnest. A very nice addition to the area.

I ate here for lunch today! I was impressed. Let me start by saying that I didn't try the pizza, but it did look really good when I saw it on other tables. The dining area is bright, clean, and relaxed. You can see into the kitchen where the pizzas are being made, which is fun. There is also a full bar with a few pub tables and a jukebox. I got a salad and my boyfriend got a sandwich. Both were delicious- ingredients were fresh (they even have a farmer's market salad on the menu) and everything was expertly prepared. I will say that the price point might have been just a tiny bit high for lunch, and they did not have any weekday specials. The servers were friendly and use mobile POS systems which was slightly cumbersome but also very convenient in that you can swipe your card at your table without waiting on your server to run it. Overall, I think that this restaurant is an excellent addition to the downtown Lafayette and I am excited to come back to try the pizza (and cocktails).

I suggest you get there soon because once the word gets out there will be a line out the door and you may as well be some of the first to be a regular. I was thrilled when found this cozy little place! Let's get down to it: The dining room is wonderfully decorated and includes glass from which you can see into the entire kitchen which of course includes a view of the wood fired oven, A beautiful grand piano and a wonderful fireplace in the dining area will help you put your worries aside. We were there on a Saturday night and the pianist did an amazing job setting a relaxing and happy mood. We enjoyed a tasty bottle of red wine that I will certainly enjoy again. We had the meatballs as an appetizer and they did indeed live up to their reputation. The pizza was unlike anything I'd ever enjoyed in Lafayette before. This will indeed become the diamond in such a small city. I want to tell you there are many mouth-watering items on the menu that I can't wait to try. Be sure to note the classy little bar and ask about karaoke nights, dance floors, and other little get togethers they hold. In any case, you will definitely not be disappointmented. The owner's are actually on-site and manage a quite plentiful and knowledgeable staff. Ciao

Very decent fare in the city of Lafayette. The dining space is much larger than I expected. I like the use of the old building downtown. There's a nice bar near the front door, where we chose to dine. You know what rhymes with dine? WINE! They have wine, but not Chardonnay. Not that night. I was bummed. Would have gone well with my custom made pasta dish. They were not out of beer or pinot grigio. Phew! The menu has pastas, sandwiches, pizza, soups and salads. There's something for the non-dairy and non-meat eaters. Thank goodness for variety! I was really worried I would be stuck eating a giant ball of cheese like at most Italian places. I decided on a make-you-own pasta dish. You chose the pasta, meat, sauce and three toppings. My creation was a pesto fettucini with artichokes, mushrooms and garlic. It was yummmmmy! It came with what I will call a knot made in heaven... a garlic knot or 'roll' of butter, garlic-y goodness that you will devour and then lick your fingers. Because the four of us are all so creative, the entire table crafted their own pastas. Everyone chose something very different. There were raves about the house made sausage for sure. Everyone left full and happy. Sylvia's may have bumped South Street Smoke House out of my spot for 'go-to' restaurant in Lafayette! (It was the heavenly knots that did it! So good!)
