I love this restaurant! I go all of the time. The feel is clean, refreshing, and friendly. They are always kind and they have a great range in vegetarian sushi. My favorite is the "Vegetarian Dish" which has 3 different kinds of maki (avocado, cucumber, and kampyo). I usually get some extra shiitake maki because it's equally delicious. My husband loves to get the bibimbap with tofu, but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm not a big sushi fan, and when I do get sushi, I have someone with me who can help me order. Sushi Don has both raw and cooked sushi items, along with other Asian dishes. The place is clean, the wait staff are excellent. I went at lunch and the place was not busy. I hear it gets really busy for dinner. If you go, the exterior of the building may look vaguely familiar to you. This location has housed a few different restaurants, mostly Asian, but its life began as an IHOP. Check out the steep angled roof, it's a dead giveaway. Sushi Don's is worth a stop for good sushi.

Love, love, love this restaurant. I meet my son here and he always brings a friend or two along. The Korean fried chicken boneless with the 4 sauces goes so fast the only concern is not burning your tongue because it is so fresh and hot. An extremely crispy coating marries remarkably with any of the four sauces. Try each one. I can't pick a favorite. Service has been excellent every time. The servers are nice and the sushi chef created some really beautiful pieces. Dragon roll and Lion King roll are favorites of ours. But we've ventured into several smaller rolls for fillers and to appease the vegetarian. I have never been disappointed. We have been on a typical college night where the majority of customers are college age students waiting for a table and on a Sunday evening with families (including children). We have never waited more than 5 mins to be seated. It seemed the restaurant was able to accommodate everyone comfortably. If you are looking for fancy decor then this will probably be a 4. But I'm bumping up to a 5 because it felt genuine and maybe it is the delicious meal where I didn't feel rushed and we all left feeling stuffed and happy. Quite an accomplishment with a large group including a vegetarian.

Sushi took 25mins for two order of something like a California roll... Chicken hot bowl was ok, and beef hot bowl was good.. I'm still waiting as I'm leaving this review my friends already are done. Wow 45mins.. But owner give me free food and sushi was super good.. Thanks

I stopped by this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is simple and clean, and the menu is HUGE. It offers both Korean and Japanese dishes, various specials, and was honestly a bit too large for me. I spent 10 mins just staring at the menu because I couldn't decide what I wanted. Finally, I ended up ordering a spicy kani salad appetizer and a Korean chirashi (or hwe dup bap) which comes with miso soup and salad. The appetizer had just the right amount of heat but was a bit too heavy on the mayo. Still tasty though. The chirashi was much larger than I expected and was topped with shrimp, chopped tuna and salmon, roe, crab, avocado, seaweed, and other veggies. There was also a sweet spicy sauce that you pour over it. I've eaten many hwe dup baps before at other restaurants and have had better. However, this version was still really good and worth the $14. Service was good and prompt. Overall, I enjoyed my lunch here and will return to try other things on the menu.

My wife and I stopped by for a late (well, late for us) supper after a meeting in Lafayette. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. We had shumi for an appetizer and ordered 2 rolls, lion king and tempura. Both arrived quickly and were delicious. Between the appetizer, soup, salad, and the rolls it was almost more than I could eat...almost. My wife did end up taking some of hers home. Our server was friendly and quick. Overall it was a great experience.

Tonight at sushi don I had a dinner date with my boyfriend. It was busy but that's expected on a Saturday. We were seated but had to wait a little bit for menus because all of them were taken. When we received the menu it was a tad overwhelming, it seemed more like a novel than a menu. There wasn't a page for drinks so we didn't know if they had Pepsi or coke products but that's easily solved with asking the waitress. I ordered the bulgogi dolsot hot pot. It was delicious! It was sweet and savory. The egg on top was perfect. I had so much that I had to get a to go box. All in all I really enjoyed sushi don. The prices are really reasonable! I wish I could give it a four and a half because the only thing I would change is to have more menus and to include the drinks on the menu.

I usually love sushi don and I'm a frequent visitor. Last night I experienced the worst service I have ever had. The restaurant was a little busy but that is not reason for my water to go empty for more than 20 mins. There either needs to be a new system put in for the servers or just hire better one because I now do not want to return due to piss poor service. Good was great as usual but it took nearly 2 hours to get it. Won't be back for a while unfortunately.

Everyone is always very friendly and they have great food! Coming from a native Californian where I'm spoiled with fresh Asian food this place is very similar!
(5)Jennifer D.
Great food, service is always wonderful! Everything I've tried I've enjoyed. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is bc it's obviously not family friendly and if it were it would be more enjoyable and would eat here more often. I had asked what they had for children (aka picky eaters) and the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) was suggested, which is a HUGE portion of bone in chicken.

Woo Hoo! Good sushi in Lafayette, who would've guessed?! Went there for lunch, got the sushi sampler appetizer and the box lunch D. Fresh, well prepared sushi. Miso soup was very flavorful, excellent. The only average item was the salad, it has the typical dressing but was a bit watery. This place went from empty to very busy from 11:30am to 12pm so be prepared for a little longer wait times. Good atmosphere, good decor and good service.

Recently went to Sushi Don for lunch with family since our first choice, Heisei, was closed for winter break. We waited sometime for drinks. Half of the restaurant was filled with mostly tables of two and there seemed to be two servers working. Eventually we got our order in just as we were considering trying some place else. Forty-five minutes go past and our server is nowhere to be found. Right before we had to leave the roof behind the sushi bar started to let in massive amounts of water. We spent an hour at Sushi Don with waters and no explanation or apologies as to what was going on, so with that we left.

Sushi Casanova? Indeed he is! The sushi rolls here are impressively amazing. We are in the middle of Chicago and Indianapolis as well as not on a shoreline. Local sushi joints often lack freshness, skill, and presentation. Sushi Don has mastered the art of sushi. I feel like I am in a sushi shop in a big city from the quality of the food with the freshness I experience along the shoreline states. I come here for sushi and love the 30% off daily specials. Tuesday and Saturday is 30% off sushi rolls (maki and chef specials). The prices at first seem a little high, but then see the portions and they are correct. Also the 30% off sale makes it a total great deal! Very market friendly prices here and outstanding quality and portions. The interior is nicer than the competition that I have been to. 5/5 Price: Correct, bonus super deal on 30% off daily specials. 5/5 Ambiance: Nice. A wall of booths and then a lot of tables in a normal sized small place. 10/5 Sushi: The rolls are delicious, fresh, fun, and I thank the sushi chef there for his presentation of the food. My sushi rolls look good. They taste as good as they look too! 4.5/5 Service: It's good service. I have overall had great service. One time it was so-so. However overall service is certainly good and sometimes great. The food helps make up for any lack in a server of the night because once you see it the sushi chef can save the day because I am like "wow!" each time I see and eat a roll there. 5/5 Overall: I love it, return, continue to return, and feel they won't have to "close" like other sushi in this county because they are rock stars and we are loving it. I was the yelp sticker today on the door. Check them out. Yes, yelpers do love them! I'll have to post more pictures of new rolls I tried this visit. I have yet to cross a bad sushi roll. This is remarkable in the middle of Indiana! I hope the sushi chef (masterpiece sushi presentation and creations of rolls) never moves and that this place never closes! Also, I hope the 30% off daily sales continue. I love it! Sushi Don = Sushi Do!!! Yes yes and yes. Check them out for sushi rolls. I can't speak of the other food, they do have much more menu, but I love their sushi each time!!!

We went here to try their fried chicken but the fryer was broken so they didn't have it. I ordered the spicy squid instead and it was good. My husband ordered dolsot bibimbap but received bibimbap in a bowl instead of the stone pot. Food arrived quickly and the server was friendly.
(3)Evetty S.
Service was TRASH. I did not tip, and this is coming from someone that was a server all throughout college. The food was okay. Really enjoyed the seaweed salad (yeah, seaweed salad of all things). I ordered the Lion Roll, meh. I will return to try something else but I'll be sure to request a better server. Did I mention my server had two tables when I arrived?!
(3)Mu W.
Sushi served too slow. We are on a Tuesday noon and it takes us to wait more than half an hour for the sushi roll. And the meat are not fresh. They do not serve soft shell crab separately and do not serve tofu separately. They put too much sauce on the meat. I guess it is because the meat is not fresh. Too bad for a sushi place.
(1)Alex D.
They have an extensive sushi menu and I've enjoyed everything I've ordered so far. Lots of great food for a reasonable price.

I took advantage of the lunch specials to try this place out. I had high hopes, due to tell reviews and because it's down the road from where my fiancé lives. I thought it'd be amazing if there was a sushi place I enjoyed that is much closer than having to drive up on campus. For starters, I did not realize you could only get in one way and the parking lot was small and hard to get out of when they're busy. I ordered take out and got the sushi maki lunch special of two rolls. I upgraded both rolls from the original $8 menu. I will say it looks like the prices have gone up since some people have reviewed. I got the ebi tempura and spicy salmon. Those two rolls are my go to, when determining if I like a place or not. For $10 the price was excellent. The actual sushi was just okay. It almost had an odd taste. I'm from Chicago and there are a handful of amazing sushi restaurants that I frequent often. So my expectations were a bit high. I think I would stop here again only to try the lunch special and if I really didn't feel like driving up on campus to go to my favorite sushi bar in town. For the price it's decent, but I would not rate it give stars or say I love it. The employees were all very nice. I do have to give them that.

Excellent food and great service. Raw salad don was delicious. Salmon sashimi was super fresh and we loved the Korean fried chicken. What a surprisingly great find this restaurant is.

My favorite place to eat in Lafayette. The food is amazing, both Japanese and Korean. They have gteat daily specials and their lunch specials give you so much food! My favorites are the bulgogi for Korean food and the Super OMG Roll, which is a roll that is served on fire to your table. The only downside is that the service is usually very slow and it can get very busy at night. Id eat there any day.

Flippin Awsome Sushi!! Huge variety and nice Korean grill menu! Also, decent selection of Beers. Love it!

We pulled into the parking lot, panicking that Gaza II had gone by the wayside. Fortunately, the renamed restaurant still has Korean offerings on the menu, newly supplemented with sushi rolls and other Japanese appetizers. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with fried tofu and medium-spicy sauce, which came in a squirt bottle; this was a great way to personalize the spice level. My dining partner ordered the same, with teriyaki sauce. Although the bibimbap could have had more tofu, we both really enjoyed our dishes and the diverse amount of veggies thrown in (exotic mushrooms, seaweed, broccoli, sprouts, etc.), all topped with a mildly runny egg that cooked as you mixed everything together. An unexpected bowl of run-of-the-mill miso soup was included in the meal. Our server brought a complementary tuna roll to sample, with onion crispies on top. We were very happy for this freebie, and preferred its taste to the tempura-cream cheese-imitation crab roll that our dining mate ordered. I was sad that they did not bring out as many small Korean dishes (banchan) to sample as during our first Gaza visit, with one small dish of kimchi and sprouts to sample between the 4 of us, but still greatly enjoyed our dinner and experienced relief that the Korean specialties still remained. Really bad US pop music now plays overhead. Service was friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Definitely a unique place to visit in east-side Lafayette, where mostly chains and other dismal places are present.

We went to Sushi Don because our usual haunt was closed for Purdue's Christmas break. The service here is awful. We waited 15-20 minutes in between courses, had to flag down our waitress just to get the check and flag down another server to pay. The restaurant was moderately busy, but there were several servers for very few tables so I can't see why they seemed to be having so much trouble. My table got our food before another table which was seated and had gotten their order in before we sat down. When they asked why, the waitress told them the kitchen was just busy. The food was only okay. The sushi rolls are so big it is impossible to eat the slices in one bite and the eel sauce they topped them with was so thick, it was gelatinous, which I found to be very unappetizing. Rolls were 30% off the evening we were there, so the prices were comparable to other sushi restaurants in town, but regularly they would cost more. My rainbow roll was topped with egg, which I thought odd. Overall, just not worth the cost and hassle, in my opinion. I can't say I will return.

Rolls were really big and good and 30% off on a Tuesday night. The chicken wings were some of the best I've had. Our server was very helpful and attentive.

Fresh sushi fish, huge rolls, big surprises in flavors. I would definitely come again.

Finally, I found a good sushi restaurant in Lafayette, Indiana! The sushi is amazing, the atmosphere is nice, and the service my friends and I had was fantastic. I sampled from three different sushi rolls and they were all delicious. Sushi Don kicks Maru's ass (Can I say that on here? Hopefully.) Anyway, no comparison.

Went to check this place out after reading a fee reviews on yelp...have the admit we were pretty disappointed. Reviews I read and description said they were kid friendly. Well, I didn't expect a full on kids menu, but perhaps something along the lines of chicken nuggets, anyone a plain hamburger or something along those lines would have been nice. I will give a pretty decent score for the food, but service was lackluster at best. The waitress we had didn't even introduce herself, just kind of handed us these binder ring menus and walked away. When she did come back, she didn't offer any assistance in what is good or on special. We ordered what we thought was a decent amount of food, much more came out than we expected. Not necessarily a bad thing but we could have ordered much less and still been full. Also, when she did bring the food, apparently she is not used to little kids (toddlers) as she set everything possible within his reach. Not the smartest of choices. Waitress rarely checked on us and I had to ask a different one for a refill on water and yet another for our check. It was a Friday but they were only half full by the time we left. Probably won't return anytime soon.

I really like this place, I tried the spicy crazy, which was mildly spicy, just right. I got $5.50 off because it was happy hour! I couldn't eat it all took half of it home for lunch tomorrow. $13.90 for sushi with soup, salad and a ice tea.

Fresh fish, Very good roll selection.Unagi.Clean facility. Great service. I've had decent success in years past with sushi bars in the area. Until today that is. This place was found by my friend on Yelp. Reviews looked promising. We were pleasantly surprised how good this place was/is! Hidden gem behind Starbucks.

Been here a few times. Always enjoy their sushi and other foods. But today we experienced the some of the worst service ever. Food was still amazing but the server was incredibly forgetful and failed to bring us parts of our meal. It also took forever to get our orders in. Ultimately Shanna, the server, did take responsibility and apologized and that did help. But I probably won't be back for a few months. Really bummer.

I love this place. So nice to have really good sushi in Lafayette. Anyone who ends up down the street at Asahi, I feel bad for you. Their Korean food is also really good. I always get the Super Bowl as part of my meal, with another small roll and I'm stuffed. The Super Bowl is my favorite dish there. The Lion King roll is a close second. I really like the Eel roll as well. I haven't had a bad roll there. Kimchi soup is a fav of a couple people I know. Try it out, they have different specials every day. Tuesday and Saturday is 30% off rolls.

I was very glad to find such good Japanese/Korean restaurant in West Laffayette on my way back home! Food was very delicious and serving was fast and friendly.
(5)Nolie P.
Excellent Asian food and fresh sushi too. We are a family of 5 (kids aged 13, 12, 9) and we all found something we liked. The boys had Galbi, Bulgogi, and Dolsot Bibimbap. They ate everything and gave their dishes 2 thumbs up. Of the 3 dishes I personally liked Bulgogi the best. We also had sushi and it was all yummy. Hubby got the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and he had to fight the boys off from eating his KFC. Bottom line- excellent food, atmosphere ehhh, and and the prices are not for the every day outing (though the portions were huge).
(5)Diane Y.
First time eating here, great food and great service. Our waiter was nice and courteous. The food was hot and tasted good. The waiter also gave sushi recommendations when we asked. Pleased with this visit and will definitely come back.
(5)Alison B.
Amazing sushi! I think it is the best sushi in town, and if you go on a Tuesday or Saturday it's 30% off! Only took off one star because once we had to wait a while for our waiter to come.
(4)Samuel R.
This place is delicious! Their 30% off special makes it even better. Highly recommended!
(5)Nix A.
Awesome find! Was going to heisei but it was closed so the only open sushi place was Dons. Must say i don't regret it. The sushi was beautiful as well as delicious. Nice portions. Good price. Number one choice in w/Lafayette now! Will definitely return.
(5)Juan C.
Absolutely love their sushi! They have a great range of it too, from basic rolls to higher end and more elaborate specials. I recommend going on Saturdays, when most of their sushi is 30% off as well!
(5)Jenny K.
Six of us visiting in town and wanted sushi so decided to try this restaurant. Every meal was fabulous, service was fantastic as well!! When we come back to town we will be revisiting!!
(5)Richard H.
Went for lunch, ordered two sushi rolls off of the lunch special list. Waited over 25 minutes for regular sushi with only 2 other tables occupied. Not impressed with the speed or service. The sushi itself was excellent though.
(3)Dana A.
A friend and I decided to give this place a shot since we didn't want to drive all the way to West Lafayette, we're glad we did. Lunch is reasonably priced and you get a lot of food for your money. I had a bimbimbap bowl that was enough for two people. My dining companion tried a lunch combo that she said was very good. We shared a couple of rolls and they did not dissapoint. So glad we finally have an option for good sushi on this side of the river!
(4)Scott D.
Very pleasant discovery. In the building that used to house the House of Saigon, Sushi Don builds on a solid Korean foundation with some very credible Japanese offerings. Service was quick and helpful. The sashimi was a nice surprise - quite good given how far Lafayette is from the nearest ocean. A good selection of lunch options as well. We'll definitely be back.
(5)Jay S.
We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server informed us that all rolls were 30% off - what a deal! We ordered four rolls - three of them were just average, but the ultimate shrimp roll was pretty awesome - I would highly recommend trying it while you're there. While all in all this place is pretty decent, Maru still gets my vote for best sushi in the Lafayette area.
