We stopped here on our way to our niece wedding weekend. Being from out of tow we rely on yelp for good places to eat, stay and visit. Great little dinner. Everyone is so friendly and great service. Food was delicious.

The need for Sat morning breakfast driven by a trip to Lafayette and Fri night libations resulted in a Southside Diner table sitting. Our little group LOVES breakfast and we judge all breakfast seatings against our own kitchen. Southside Diner did not disappoint. The establishment has a combination of counter seating, tables - mostly four-tops, and booths. Kind of a 60's thing going on. It is bright and cheery with lots of hustle and bustle. From the buzz of the patrons already there, I'd say a good amount of regulars. Always a good sign! Our fare included in no particular order: 4 eggs over easy, a western omelet, hash browns, fried potatoes (fresh cubed with skin and fried, not often found in restaurants these days), ham slice, lots-o-bacon, couple-o pancakes, bowl of grits, wheat toast, coffee, jellies, butters, creams. All for a very reasonable $23 before tip! Everything, including the service, was more than up to snuff. Can't wait to return for a shot at some biscuits and sausage gravy and homemade pie. Now if only we could have ordered a mimosa, that fifth star would be shinning bright!

Very Dirty restaurant! The coffee had a film on it and what looked like dirt on the rim. The tea was nasty and cloudy. The waitress told us that the water softener was off cycle right now. There was nothing they could do. I ordered the Philly steak with onion rings... Onion rings tasted like they were fried in old oil and the Philly had no taste:( my husband ordered a western omelet, it was bland as well. I do not recommend this place!

If ever a place deserved a five star, this is it. If you go here and don't like the food or the friendly service ,,,,I'm not sure what your looking for. We just moved to town 3 months ago. I've been there 3 times, everything is good and the people working there treat you like family. This is a perfect example of how a business should be ran. Sunday morning breakfast ? Get there early , this place Is hopping !

I love diners and this one is classic. The breakfast was very good. I especially liked the grilled biscuits and gravy. Our server Maddie was very friendly and responsive. I will make a point of eating breakfast here again next time I am in Lafayette.

I first came across this place from a local business network as a place to have a quick business meeting. I have to admit, I was impressed. I sat down and was immediately greeted by the waitress who handed me a cold water and a hot coffee on the spot. My coffee remained filled until I left. In addition, the food is inexpensive, but still quite a delicious and filling meal. The wait staff and the atmosphere make this place a new regular visit when I am in town. I highly recommend.

I had been wanting to go here for a while, but since I've moved back to Illinois and only frequent Lafayette on occasion it tends to slip my mind. Wanting breakfast food but something other than the 3-4 restaurant chains on 26, I decided to look on yelp for more options and was reminded about this diner. I was expecting to have to wait upon on arrival, since it's a Sunday, but we were able to pick a booth right away. The menu is nice and short and to the point. I love that. I ordered the Belgian waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream with a side of bacon and over easy eggs. The only reason this place didn't get a five star from me was due to three things. 1. My eggs were not cooked as I had ordered 2. The strawberry topping also had cherries in it and 3. The food although good, did not have a significant memorable quality for me. That being said I would still go back. I'd like to try the biscuits and gravy. My fiancé loved this place and it's the type of diner he is accustomed to. He said the bacon was great, toast wasn't burnt and a bonus they had his favorite "mixed berry" jelly and his cheese omelette was really delicious. We will definitely be back when we want that very simple but to the point breakfast diner experience.

My favorite place to get really good diner food. It's the special place I take my Granddaughter.

As a new Purdue Boilermaker my family and I were looking for a good place to grab some breakfast. We're here a week earlier to get acquainted with the area and for me to get settled in so we found this place which is not a very long drive from our hotel. The minute we walked in we were instantly greeted with hospitality that us Southern Californians aren't used to experiencing in public! The food was great and the biscuit and gravy was a huge hit with my family!! We also gorged on some pie afterwards despite the food coma we all got! Service was also on point and our server Randy was just the sweetest!! Will definitely be trying to swing by when I have the time to get off campus! Five stars!

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday and got right in. My husband had the special with eggs, pancakes and bacon. I had the veggie omelette. The good news; they got both our orders ABSOLUTELY right!! Seriously, over medium eggs were exactly right, I got fruit on the side that was the correct substitution, and easy cheese in my omelette! It seems that often especially with busy breakfast places that they are so busy churning out orders that they miss the special requests-so great positive. The staff were tremendous, very fast and friendly service. The only reason for the 3 stars is that the pancake my husband ordered was cakey and not really that good. It is a diner in a strip mall so not great atmosphere but they make up for it with their customer service.

A nice mom and pop style diner. Food is decent, the place is clean, and their staff has been friendly when I've visited. This place has always been pretty busy -even at 3pm on a Friday. They have opened a new section of the store for more seating.

Next time you are thinking about heading to an IHOP chain, try supporting this superior small business! You will be happy you did. :) love this place. It's a "mom and pap" style place. The servers are all among the friendliest that I have ever encountered. They are all fantastic. The food is always fast here and it is always hot too. I generally order breakfast and I LOVE their biscuits and sausage gravy. I always order extra gravy no matter where I go, but the amount they put on should certainly be enough for most people, and almost enough for me! I would compare this place to IHOP but this is NOT a chain and the food is better. I can't rate this place any less than 5 stars. I go frequently and currently am the duchess. 1) I give high regards to the family (and friends of family perhaps too) that run this wonderful little place. The service, staff, and even customers are all so warm and kind. It's truly genuine and not fake. Happy people shine a positive energy and atmosphere and you can feel it while dining here! Ambience is casual and the environment is contagious to give you satisfaction and smiles. 2) The prices are extremely cheap. They are a "mom and pap" place competing in a market of big businesses like IHOP, Denny's, and 24/7 diners. 3) The prices are cheap, but the FOOD IS NOT! The portions are very generous. The amount of sausage in the gravy and the amount of gravy on a normal order is generous. The quality of all I have tasted here, as well as anyone I have ever dined here with and tasted theirs, has been delightful. We have never had a mistaken to our order. Special requests are provided with a smile and no complications. The food is like grandma just cooked you what you wanted exactly as you wanted it. ...service, prices, quality, portions... I absolutely check this place out. I can't even eat at IHOP anymore. This is so much better all around! Seat yourself! There are booths and tables. 4) Oh yeah! There are pies here. They are homemade!!! I haven't tasted them yet because I fill up on my sausage "gravy and biscuits." I hear the pies are delightful too! 5) Its small, but usually has a great number of people inside. Somehow the food is always still prepared with great speed. It's fast, hot, and tasty!

Went with high expectations, ordered the breaded tenderloin & fries....just average processed frozen tenderloin.

We were recently traveling through Indiana with our four children and stopped at this diner for breakfast. Based on the reviews, we were very excited. Our children all love biscuits and gravy and this was the recommended item in addition to the pancakes from the other reviews. We could not have been more disappointed with the food. The biscuits and gravy was runny and also had very few pieces of sausage. The pancakes were okay but nothing special. The staff was polite and we were seated comfortably.

Stop by for lunch at least once a week. Friendly service, good prices and quick. Highly recommend.

This was a great find. My boyfriend and I went here because it was suggested by a friend. It was well worth it. We had wet little wait time in spite of a large volume of business. The service was prompt and accurate and the food was great. The staff was very friendly as well. Also the prices can't be beat we had two full breakfasts and side items as well for under $20.

Wow! We needed a quick dinner and noticed this place so I checked it out here. Other posts were positive and spot on! This little diner is fantastic! The service could not have been faster and the staff were very friendly. We were in and out in 30 minutes even though it was fairly busy. Today's special was chicken and noddles over mashed potatoes with a side veggie and roll. I had that and my son got the pancakes with bacon. I loved my dinner but the sweet smell of his pancakes almost made me wish I'd ordered breakfast. The bacon was cooked just right and the pancakes were fluffy and browned to perfection. My noodles seemed like the Amish variety or very close to homemade. The beans were not over seasoned like many other places I been. I wish we'd had time for pie...there were several to choose from and they looked homemade. Great little surprise on the south side~I can't believe we never noticed it before!

Good first visit today for breakfast. Service was prompt and friendly. It was a full dining room and still did not wait long for food.

This place was definitely worth the few miles off of I-65. My family was on a mission to road trip without eating fast food, and this local diner was a hit. We especially loved the French toast and corned beef hash. Service was friendly and plenty of locals made us feel at home as well. Great experience for our whole group...ages 9-66. We will visit again.

The corn beef hash breakfast with English muffin was perfect.

OMG. This place is awesome. It is def a secret to all the locals. The wait staff is the nicest you'll find anywhere. They have the best coffee. It's hot and they keep it coming. There were 3 in our party. We had the Southside Special and the pancakes were fluffy and very tasty. The steak and eggs were made to perfection. I had western omelet which was also very tasty. They made the omelet on the grill so it is more flat/thin. The veggies were diced and cooked great in the omelet. We had to order a side of biscuits and gravy to try. Their sausage gravy is to die for. It is creamy with plenty of sausage and flavor. This is not your coagulated powder gravy. Everything here is homemade even the pies.. I want to keep this a secret but you all should go.

We eat here about 3 times a month. Love their breakfasts. Tenderloins are awesome. Wait staff knows a lot of clientel by name and they are very friendly.

I have to agree with the other reviews about the amazing customer services you get at this restaurant. In addition to that the food is really tasty and they are very quick. I have been trying to find a good breakfast place around here and this place is in the top of my list without a doubt.

The South Side Diner opened in May, 2011 on -- as you might've guessed -- the south side of Lafayette, off Veteran's Memorial Parkway (350S) and between 18th & Concord. The idea is classic... and while they give it a real good effort, it's just not quite all there. There's a checkered floor, pie case by the register and malts on the menu, but it just comes up a bit short on the expected nostalgia. The food is decent, the staff has been friendly and efficient and the prices are just about right. Fair warning though -- I wouldn't go expecting to have your culinary world rocked as the menu is as basic as it is predictable. That said, both times we've been for dinner, we've left with satisfied bellies and money still in my wallet. The food seems somewhat processed, judging by the burger and fries I had the first time, chicken strips the second, and the chicken sandwiches my wife had both times. Decent for a quick bite on the cheap, but again -- not groundbreaking stuff. We also sampled the pies on the first trip, which I believe they said are made fresh daily. Quite good. Might turn into a pie-n-coffee joint for us. We're planning to go back for breakfast sometime soon (which they serve anytime, I believe) and in a pinch when fast food won't do but we don't want to drive across town, I'm sure we'll be back.

Excellent diner! We only had breakfast but what we had for the price we paid makes us want to come back for more. I highly recommend this for anyone near the south side. Were I north of 26 though I'd probably choose Route 66 instead.
