Shellie’s Cafe Menu

Shelly's is your typical locally owned diner, serving typical diner food. Lots of grey hair among the patrons. The building used to house a Wendy's, so the tables are crammed together and the waitresses can barely squeeze between the tables. There is no reservations, and no hostess. You get in and get a table if you're lucky, or wait until someone leaves. Most folks don't hang around long after eating because there is zero ambiance. But the food is good and cheap, the service is friendly and if you go often enough, they'll remember your name. So get Grandma and Grandpa and take them to Shellie's. They'll love it!

I was in town visiting family, and came to Shellie's for some mid afternoon breakfast. Shellie's delivered. If you like the diner feel of never ending coffee, toast with jam, and fried potatoes, this is absolutely the place for you. Order something with bacon off the breakfast menu and you won't regret it.

Shelly's is another of my favorite restaurants in the Lafayette area for breakfast, brunch or lunch. They offer a classic diner menu with their own special touches. Definitely a place the locals (I know since I am one - lol) frequent, as well as our IN state representative. That says a lot in and of itself Shelly's is a step above most of the other establishments of this genre in the area (at least the ones I have tried so far :-) )

Love Shellie's Cafe! Morgan is the best waitress hands down. Love having breakfast there on weekends, always very friendly and fast service! Great local cafe!!!

Nothing on their menu stands out. Even cafes have a meal the are noted for. Tenderloin, beef and noodles, catfish. Not this place. It's just drab greasy food.

Shelly's is a teeny tiny diner located in the shell of what is very obviously once an old Wendy's chain location. But that's the only thing you don't know about it. You've been to this restaurant a million times before. This is the kind of hometown place where everybody congregates with Gramma on Sunday, the daily special is written on a piece of paper with big colorful marker, and the waitresses call everybody 'honey' and 'sugar' and 'sweetheart'. Is the food that great? Engh, not really, but that's not why you're here. You're here because they still make sandwiches the old way (white bread fried on the griddle with butter) and you can get a side of coleslaw with your pancakes, if you so desire. Sure my ham-n-cheese was nothing to write home about, but when you're tired and grumpy and very sick of traveling, sometimes a taste of down-home is exactly what you need :)

I go to Shelley's every Saturday morning with my dad & brother and every Sunday morning with my wife. Always good, but most short order cooks can't mess up 2 eggs over medium, sausage, american fries & toast. The waitresses remember your name and what you order if you go very often.

I have lived around the corner for 4 years and never gone to Shellie's. Today was my first and last visit. The food was meh and the customer service was terrible. If you want a cafe, Indiana is chock full of delicious authentic cafes, Shellie's is not one of them. (If you want suggestions check out the Cafe Indiana book.) The food is average and the prices are okay. Some things are cheap & some things seemed over priced. I ordered an egg salad sandwich which came with chips. I asked for fries instead and not being told there would be an additional charge, I assumed there would be none. When we got our bill I was charged the full price of the sandwich ($3.48) and full price for an ala carte order of fries ($2.29.) I said something to the waitress, pointing out that she hadn't said there would be an additional charge for fries. She talked to Shellie herself, who wouldn't budge on charging for the fries. I have been a waitress, and you never charge a customer extra without telling them beforehand. I definitely wouldn't have gotten the fries if I knew they would charge $2.29 for a handful of fries. There is much better food locally, with better customer service to boot. Right up the street from Shellie's is the Breakfast Nook, where we will be going from now on.

I seem to always be on the go and don't get time to cook, and I crave home cooked meals. This place really delivered, the food was excellent, the waitress made sure we had everything we need and our glasses never got empty. I also noticed that the resturant seemed to have a lot of regular customer; they knew each other by name. The waitress would laugh and joke with the customer. I highly recommend this resturant to anyone who is tired of chain resturants and wants home style cooking, with a good atmosphere. The only complaint is I wish they were open later so I could take the kids for dinner.
