Food was good. They have daily specials, a fairly large menu and very decent prices. A little dark inside (I liked it), animal heads on the wall, and great service. I got the submarine sandwich, a side salad, cottage cheese and a water. I would order everything again.

Service is so slow here. Not sure if they don't have enough staff or they are inattentive or what. But they could make a lot more $$ if they came back and asked if anyone needed anything like, well, a drink. And the food. Meh. The vegetable/cheese appetizer is a joke. Tiny pieces of cheese and the carrots looked like they had given up the ghost. 3 Stars only because I like to support local and Preston's has been around so long. But attention better be paid to the above - there are a lot more options in town...

Cool place, however..... Slow service, overpriced cold food that wasn't that great. Loud drunk guys who think they are important on a Tuesday night. Not recommended, although what they had on draft was pretty good. Good place to drink and hang out, not to eat.

Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Lafayette. A little expensive, but worth it for the quality and portions given to you. Also, the selection of both food and drink is excellent. They have prime rib on the weekends, and $0.50 wings on Mondays. Also on Mondays, Preston's has Schooner night, where you can buy a 32oz glass schooner and fill it up for $2. In the spring, the patio is a fun place to be, as they sometimes have live entertainment. The atmosphere is very rugged and fun, not what you would necessarily expect from a bar in Lafayette, IN.

The food's so-so, but the beer is good and they have nice outdoor seating. The Monday night pitcher refill deal is awesome and the place (especially outside) is always popping. Great for downing beer and chain smoking!

I really want to like this place. The summer atmosphere out on the patio is lovely. Food is decent but way overpriced for bar food. Servers seem to be kids they pulled off dishwashing duty though. I've been here three times. Forgetting silverware, not checking up for half hour, forgetting to bring our sides, all happened. I mean if you forget something it's not a big deal, unless you can't be found so we can start eating. We eventually went inside to find the server to ask for our check. Friendly, but not a very seasoned employee. Again, might just be the chill vibe that caused some of those, but still.

Sgt Preston's is always a great place to grab a drink with some friends after work. The service is always friendly, and usually very good. Drinks aren't too expensive, they have really good food (even their salads are good, and not in a 'good for a bar' type of way). But, their spinach and artichoke dip has to be the best item on the menu. Served with toasted bread to boot, this is a must order nearly every time I'm here.

I no longer live in Lafayette but when I'm in town Sgt Preston's is always on the places to go list. This year all my old friends got together at Preston's and as always had a great time. The service was great; "Thanks Nicole" !!! I have been in a few bars in my lifetime from LA to NYC and none of them have the hometown feel that Preston's has.. If you are ever in Lafayette or you live in Lafayette you have got to go to Sgt Preston's.

5 STARS! I don't give many 5 Stars in life, but Sgt. Preston's of the North is very deserving. Clearly, the owners and staff get it... from their immediate welcome when you walk through the door, to the quick bar service, from the quality food to the reasonable prices. What's more, Sgt. Preston's surrounds you with awesome, historic, exposed brick walls and offers Lafayette's biggest and best patio (with live music on summer weekends). You'll find all of this just one block southwest of the courthouse downtown and between the bridges to West Lafayette and Purdue University.... You may walk into Sgt. Preston's a stranger, but you'll walk out as a friend. (Cheers to Doug Cooper, Preston's founder and owner. We've all been enjoying your place for years... and it just keeps getting better!)

This place is one of my favorite spots in the summer because of their beer garden and they often have live music out there. The food is good, wouldn't say great. I would say the staff is great though. They are attentive, friendly and down to earth. They always have something on "special" and prices are decent at regular price as well. If you are opposed to cigarette smoke, though outside the tables are close to eachother. The inside bar is pretty dark. I know that they have a good crowd of regular that sit at the bar top and seem to be enjoying themselves. And they serve a mean corned beef and cabbage for St. Paddy's day, always a good time. I recommend Sgt. Prestons, especially their beer garden.

For American pub fare this is my favorite place. Great serivce and good quality food. You can find a lot friends at Preston's and make new ones too. My favorite is the French Dip sandwich with provolone, onions and green peppers but hold the mushrooms. Thier steak fries are the best I have found in Lafayette. Great with a side of BBQ sauce. Outdoor dining is nice on thier back patio. Also a great place for parties and gatherings. I held my office winter party there in thier outdoor heated tee pee - way cool and fun. Great place!

The food is surprisingly normal and actually pretty tasty. I think they have the best sour cole slaw I've ever had. I would give it more stars but I'm not really into the atmosphere. The outside is killer in the summer. Ok .. its a 4/5.

Despite having lived in the area for several years, we'd never before ventured into Sgt Preston's -- so we decided that tonight was the night and dropped in for dinner. In retrospect, our overall experience was good. The music was a tad loud for 6:00pm on a Sunday, but it wasn't that crowded and the staff was very friendly. I was a bit nervous when I saw the 'Smoking Friendly' sign on the door -- but we got lucky and didn't have to deal with that. The ambiance was certainly unique for this area. A very lodge-like feel, complete with giant moose head mounted on the wall and Canadian flag made Preston's somewhat reminiscent of the 'Hoser Hut' from How I Met Your Mother. (There's also a patio section that we didn't explore, but would likely make a great spot to spend a summer/fall evening.) We started off (and finished) with drinks. The beer selection wasn't as comprehensive as some of the other places in town, but the drink specials were nice. My wife ordered a "Screwdriver" ($2.50) ... and was served something with a good amount of grapefruit juice in it, which I would've been put off by, but she enjoyed. She ordered the BLT wrap on recommendation of the waitress, an while I was tempted by several things, wound up with the Bison Burger and curly fries. The wrap was, as she put it, "Pretty good for typical bar food" and the burger, while handsomely dressed, was just okay. Nothing groundbreaking or earthshattering -- just a pretty good burger. (I ordered a side of cheese dip I saw elsewhere in the menu and that was just okay too.) I'm not sure that we'll rush back any time soon, but this won't be our last visit.

Pretty nice bar, a spot for the not so young or more mature crowd, they have a decent size bar and a bigger patio out back. The servers and staff here are very friendly and the bartend knows how to make a good drink. Seems like a lot of places around here like brick there were quite a few heads of different animals on the wall made you feel like you should hang your coat on the moose's head.
Good Ol' Preston's. I worked here for a short time as a cook in grad school. It's a good bar, especially for one on THAT side of the river. The schooner night on Mondays is definitely their "thing". "Come on, come out a drink a couple gallons of beer!". Anyway, it actually has a patio, which before the big levee make-over, was the only bar near Purdue with a patio and live music. It was a good place to work and they have good burgers and a good cast of regulars (pronounced "reglers"). And the bartenders always took care of us cooks pretty well.

First visit: great. Second visit: service agonizingly slow due to short-staffedness. We were there for a farewell luncheon for a fellow employee, and some attendees had to leave to return to work before their food even arrived. Haven't been back in fear it might happen again.

Great American bar food served a fun, laid-back atmosphere. The prices were great and best of all, the servers were very accommodating to our large group. We came in with a group of 22 and were provided with great service! Our server was always available and made sure our group had everything we wanted. The food and drinks came out quickly despite the large order we placed. The server was even able to provide separate checks for everyone in the group. I would definitely recommend this place for a fun night!

Great bar for cheap drinks and good bar food. I drank my way through college at this bar. Seriously, Purdue students need to get off Chauncey Hill and cross the river to Sgt. Preston's. Schooner beer on Monday nights for dirt cheap. They also have some of the best wings ever...lambo style, the only way to go.

One of our favorite places to go because of the outdoor patio. Very friendly wait staff and attentive owners. My husband's favorite dish is the angel hair pasta, I like to build my own veggie sandwich. Really like their seasoned fries.

This is a good place to go as an alternative to "Thirsty Thursday" on campus. My friends and I go there to have a few drinks and a great time during the week. If you sit at the bar, you will get great attention from the bartender. The food I could give or take. Some is OK, some not so much.

I really like Sgt. Preston's. The bison burger was great and I think they were 50 cent miller lite's. This usually guarantees a good time. The atmosphere is great too, you have the whole 'I'm going hunting with my shotgun' feel.

A wonderful, calm atmosphere, good food and good drinks, and great service are all things to describe this restaurant/bar. It is moderately price (about the price of your average bar) and it is a great place to go if you are looking for a somewhat silent, calm evening out drinking with friends. It is directly over the bridge in downtown Lafayette, so walking from Purdue's campus isn't terrible. There is outside seating in the warmer weather and oftentimes there will be live performances in the outside area. The décor is very lodge-like, i.e., there are lots of animal heads on the walls, which makes for an interesting experience. They have a decent selection of beers as well as the usual mixed drinks and cocktails. Their menu is large and the portions are definitely enough to cure anyone's hunger. As I previously mentioned, Sgt Preston's is a great place for someone wanting to relax, watch a game, and converse with friends.

It was a good place to work and they have good burgers and a good cast of regulars (pronounced "reglers"). And the bartenders always took care of us cooks pretty well.

I didn't expect anything special when I first came here, but the food is actually pretty good here! I got some kind of steak wrap/sandwich.

Sgt Prestons is great for a bite to eat or have a few beers with your buddies. When the patio is open its even better!

Great food, great prices, pretty good service. This is a fun place to go and grab some food and catch a Big Ten game. I love the atmosphere but wish it were non-smoking because it can get cloudy in there.

Food was good. They have daily specials, a fairly large menu and very decent prices. A little dark inside (I liked it), animal heads on the wall, and great service. I got the submarine sandwich, a side salad, cottage cheese and a water. I would order everything again.

Nice building. Very slow service for two dinners that were basically fried. Felt good walking in. But as we continued to wait for our baskets it became frustrating. Actually we're still waiting as I write this.

The food is surprisingly normal and actually pretty tasty. I think they have the best sour cole slaw I've ever had. I would give it more stars but I'm not really into the atmosphere. The outside is killer in the summer. Ok .. its a 4/5.

(3)Julie L.
Good wings, and nice selection of drinks. The server was very nice and attentive.

Cool place, however..... Slow service, overpriced cold food that wasn't that great. Loud drunk guys who think they are important on a Tuesday night. Not recommended, although what they had on draft was pretty good. Good place to drink and hang out, not to eat.

Beer served in paper cups n shots served in plastic cups. Very classy:/ Had good service n decent music tho.

(5)Gabriel L.
The food's so-so, but the beer is good and they have nice outdoor seating. The Monday night pitcher refill deal is awesome and the place (especially outside) is always popping. Great for downing beer and chain smoking!
