This is a real-deal locally owned hard working bakery. I have been coming here since about 1963 and it is essentially unchanged thought the owners have changed over the years. In high school my buddies and I would often stop by on the way back to school after having eaten lunch at Grovers, McCords or Puratin Coney Island. We would get a butterscotch brownie, a creme horn, or a turnover. After college one of my roommates worked as a baker at Orear's, going in to start work every day at 4:00 am so there would be fresh baked goods every morning. I had the opportunity to have a tour and see the big mixers and the giant oven. It was impressive. Our roomie often brought us home goof-ups or day-old baked goods. It was great! Today the things I stop by for are the Mexican wedding cakes (they come by the dozen neatly wrapped in bakery paper), pineapple upside-down cake, cherry tarts, and the German chocolate cake. You will be delighted with any of these. I also love their seasonal and holiday sugar cookies. They always have the brightly colored sugar sprinkled cookies in fun shapes for whatever season it is. Your kids love them, and they taste great. For me going into Orear's is a sweet time machine, but you can sure taste the difference between Orear's fresh quality product and the stuff that is pumped out of those big factory-type operations.

My birthday cakes have come from here since I was a kid. It was taken over a few years ago by new owners and the quality isn't as high but it is still the best bakery in town. Good prices for sheet cakes and we always grab some iced sugar cookies, cream horns, or other tasties to nibble on the way home.

went for a taste test cause i was looking for a wedding cake.they baked 4 lil varieties. def. did not feel this place. the cake was really dry and butter cream was greasy and heavy. uhh no thanks.. but they did sell other lil treats like cookies and cupcakes. im wanting to go back and try those. maybe these are better?

When we moved to Lafayette a year ago, we stopped by Orear's after school to surprise the kids with a treat. We met with the owner and ended up receiving a tour of the bakery. I will have to say that I was impressed with the shop given its small size. However the owner was extremely nice and her items are delicious. The kids love the cookies and I can't resist the pastries. Like any fresh bake shop, timing is critical in getting the freshest items. We also have bought 4 cakes and this is where Orear's stands out. The baker can replicate any design and the cakes are moist and delicious. Her icing is also tops. Not sure about any of the previous ratings, but our experience has been great. We will continue to order our specialty cakes from this shop.

I have lived in the greater Lafayette area for roughly 20 years, and have never once seen O'rears actually open. I had the misfortune of trying one of their scone-looking pastries that I got from the gas station across the street. It was stale, the filling was over-sweet and it left that weird mouth-covered-in-lard feeling. Never again. Next time I have a craving for sweets, I'll hit Mary Lou Donuts or Mama Ines bakery. .. or even Vienna Coffeehouse.

Was there this morning when they first opened their doors. Said good morning wasn't greeted back just stared at. Said I was excited to have just made and very fresh donuts and pastries but apparently they were made the night before. Asked for help with flavors on different donuts and different fillings and the lady working had no idea what any of the stuff was. Every donut flavor was just "that's a type of berry since it's red probably strawberry, raspberry, or cherry." I looked at the coffee cakes on the counter to the far right and was excited because I love coffee cake then noticed green fuzz on the inside of two of the four bags. The donuts I ended up getting were all ones I have had before yet this time they seemed to have used bad oil/stale oil, which had a very distinct taste. And I'm not picky when one donut tasted bad and I couldn't eat it I tried the next because being who I am I assumed that maybe it was just a mistake and not everything or every bakers batch can be perfect, but every donut tasted this way. The Danishes were absolutely dry and rock hard and the "cherry, strawberry, or raspberry" filling was literally the consistency cold DOTS candy. And the cheese Danish filling was crusty and hard on top, and extremely greasy and with a cornstarchy gooey consistency.

No thanks. Just because the place has been here for 40 years dosent mean the pastries should be around that long too. Doughnuts are about par with the gas station. Pastries are not well cared for: 1) Canolli was soggy. 2). cream puff was cold, hard, and the cream was lumpy. Cakes don't "look" appetizing, but I did not try one. Back-room was clearly not well cleaned, and the building smells very musty. I won't be back.

Went here about a month ago. Was excited to get a chance to return to a place I used to like a lot. Well, apparently there is a new owner or manager. Unfortunately, this place has gone very far downhill. Amongst other items, got a few donuts. Tasted like they were three days old. Everything else was about ok, not spectaular like it once was.

Such a cute place and always has delicious cookies cakes and more! Maybe not the best place for anything out of the ordinary or fancy but perfect for the everyday sweet tooth. They have a variety of cupcake flavors and their prices are beyond reasonable. There is the sweetest older lady who works there and has since I was a kid and she is always so nice and hospitable.

Checked out o'rears for some donuts and pastries. The quality was subpar. The shop was cute. Looks like they might specialize in cakes etc.

My wife's family is from Lafayette and has been patronizing this bakery forever for birthday cakes - and I had the pleasure of being introduced to it on my latest stopover. The first thing that I love is that the proprietor is the one greeting you and running the whole business. Nothing says friendly local shop more than the actual owner giving you a smile and appreciating your business. In addition, that actual pastries are fresh and amazing. Despite the fact that I had just eaten a huge lunch, I insisted on getting a couple Cinnamon Rolls and an Almond Cupcake. Delicious, friendly, and very affordable.
