Pint of Guinness. Fish and Chips. Mussels. Whiskey. If your mouth has started watering, that was the intent. =) Nine Irish Brothers is not a chain restaurant, they have 2 locations - one in Lafayette, and one in West Lafayette. The decor is, probably not surprisingly!, dark wood throughout with mostly tables with stools. If you need a backed-chair to sit on, it's the patio (which is wonderful in the fall when they stoke up their heaters) or a few tables on the side. But I think what you'll want is the bar. =) Nicely poured pints of Guinness. 9 Irish Red (made for them by People's Brewing Company) on tap. Many whiskeys, and bartenders that enjoy the finer beers/drinks =) The food? Oh yes the food... mmm... It's fresh, with of course some food-service supplied ingredients. But the Irish Nachos, for example, are a huge bit of while-drinking goodness. =) Their salads are fresh and have good quality ingredients on them. The entrees are good quality, and well thought-out. They're very happy to make substitutions (I get no potato, no bread, extra veggies with the Irish Whiskey Pepper Steak). Currently they have a seasonal/limited time offering of Fish in a Bag (haddock. many many veggies and shrimp) that's incredibly good on a hot summer day. Desserts, well, we've only indulged a few times ;), usually with some good dessert shots/drinks. Because that was a few years ago, I can't really speak to them, but I think that though they were good 'compared to Applebees' they could be better. I guess this probably means we'll have to do some research on this subject soon ;) Wandering into live music on some Friday/Saturday nights also makes this place very special =) We have some wonderful Irish/Celtic bands that come through - we saw Brendan Loughrey (His song, F$%* you Kenny Chesney, was very well received) last night and definitely stayed for a few more pints while he was singing *grin*. Great food and drink and great live music. A great place to go when you just want to kick back, get into the 'everyone's a wee bit Irish' spirit and have fun!

Excellent. Outstanding. Just visited Ireland this past May and this place was as close as it gets! We had a party of 10 for a Saturday night dinner, enjoyed a private room, great food--fish & chips was a favorite along with the lobster bisque. Beer flights were great and the Guinness was the best we have had since we visited the Gravity Bar on the top of the Guinness Factory in Dublin! Loved this place and just wish it was closer to us in Michigan.

I ate here for the first time on Saturday evening. I must say that the cuisine was quite good. I had bangers and mash. The corn was to die for. Everything else was pretty good too. To top it off it was one half hour before closing and I wouldn't have expected the food to be as fresh as it was. Of course I had to partake in a pint of Guinness. They serve imperial pints so the volume is a bit greater than one would expect in a regular pint.

This place was REALLY expensive and the food was very bleh. It gets 2 stars due to the great atmosphere. With so many other great options in this area for bars, I would go elsewhere and make your money go further.

Rarely do I get to Lafayette but the recent Cinco de Mopar 2015 brought me here. The event apparently started in their parking lot many years ago and has since spilled over into the adjoining lot due to growth. We arrived earlier to the show and around 1230 were looking for some food and a bathroom. I ordered up a Reuben and had the house fries...generally a forgettable lunch with corned beef that tasted like it had been simmering too long. Sauerkraut makes everything better though. The beer was cold and the atmosphere/seating felt forced with the Irish theme. Maybe I'm just getting cynical as I age... Anyhow 2.5 stars for the food and atmosphere and another half for allowing a bunch of diehard car enthusiasts hang out in their parking lot all day. Will come back next year for the show and stop in for a snack and beer.

This place was just okay. Came for dinner on a weekend and it was pretty much empty. We were seated by two teenage hostesses who didn't greet us. Our server was fine. My husband had the Shepard's Pie and a beer flight. He enjoyed the beer but said he'd had better Shepard's Pie. I had the Molly Malloy sandwich and lobster bisque. They were both pretty good. We also shared the pub chips, which were just okay. The dipping sauce was good but the "chips" were really thick and kind of soggy-ish.

We were very disappointed ,we looked this up on yelp and saw such good reviews .The food may be good but we wouldn't know because it isn't family friendly . When we first arrived the hostess politely asked how many and as she grabbed the menus she said they don't have booster seats or high chairs and she commented she didn't know why. We drove down the road and had a great dinner. I would suggest they list not family friendly on this yelp site.

One of my favorite places for lunch or dinner. Nine Irish Brothers East is definitely more laid back compared with it's older brother on Purdue's campus and seems more focused on food and family than the bar, not that the east side version of the five Irish sisters bar is any less impressive with a full assortment of drinks and a Guinness pour that most Irish natives would be jealous of! The food however is the true focal point of this establishment and they outdo themselves with some great Irish-American favorites like shepherds pie and some house created favorites like the pots-o-gold.

Nummies! Tonight was my first time there and I'll definitely be back. We started off with the Pots of Gold and were delighted. The cup shaped potato pots were crispy on the bottom and soft (like mashed potatoes) on the top with cheese and green onions. A great way to start off. For dinner we shared the full order of the fish and chips and the Guinness stew. OMG. The Guinness stew is amazing. The beef is very tender and the overall flavor was very savory, like mom's pot roast. The fish and chips was something to be reckoned with, I'm not sure how anyone can eat the full order in one sitting. The fish is very tender and flaky with the thick batter. The chips are great when topped with the malt vinegar. We wanted to try their desserts, but sadly there was no room possible with our bellies filled with such great food.

This locations a bit out there, not quite in the campus proximity that the other one is. It also just doesn't have the same feel. It's newer, more sterile, and the service just isn't the same. It still gets 3 stars since the beer selection and food is good.

This place has a great pork tenderloin sandwich! I highly recommend it! :) But order hungry- its huge! They are going for an Irish pub atmosphere. The seats are uncomfortable. They have entertainment, which can make for a fun night.

I am a big fan of Nine Irish in general, but this version just is not as good as the original location on the west side. Sure, the food and drinks are the same, and when they have live music, it's great. However, it really just doesn't have the same close-nit pub feel. Check out the original location across town.

This building used to be a Ruby Tuesday, and is now transformed into a great Irish pub. We like to visit here on weekend afternoons for late lunch or early dinner two or three times a year. Family friendly dining is available on either side of the restaurant. Some of the short stools are uncomfortable but for 60 minute lunch they are OK. This location has a larger private room that can be reserved for events. On the east side seating area there is a small enclosed booth that the kids enjoy. We usually get burgers and fries, fish and chips, and fried pickles. The specials can be really good too, my favorite is the fish tacos. The prices are on the high side but for quality food and good service, you usually don't get cheap too.

Stopped in for a beverage but wasn't able to stay long. My friends had ordered the irish nachos, which looked like bits of sausage and potatoes mixed in with chips. Didn't get up the nerve to try it. It did look tasty, but looked more like a meal than an app! Inside looks like a pub, with lots of old wood and benches. It's broken up a bit, which probably keeps the noise level down some. It's a pretty friendly place and worth wandering into if you're in the area. It's filled with regulars, so it's a landing place in the neighborhood.

I called in advance to ensure they did not allow smoking and that they had a kids menu. When I arrived with my wife and two-year old, they told me they didn't have high chairs. Apparently that fact wasn't worth mentioning despite my line of questioning on the phone. Wasted my time.

Yes, it looks like an Irish pub and there are Irish beers on tap BUT thats all you should go here for. Oh yeah, there is Irish music playing and soccer on the TV. Shepherds pie - hamburger had the taste of being boiled in water with rubbery carrots and hard peas topped with INSTANT potatoes and some cheddar cheese. No flavor at all. What happened to colcannon????? My Irish family would be horrified as should Mama O'Bryan. A glass of water would have been nice since the bread comes without butter. Bangers and Mash - same tasteless instant potatoes with a decent enough gravy and sausages that were barely okay. Butter would have been nice with the dry Irish bread. Service - poor almost non existant - lots of servers but few patrons and still we didn't get a come back after the food was placed. Maybe they were too busy chatting with eachother to notice that they had customers? Very little of their pub food reminded me of the pub food in Ireland, but at least they could use real potatoes and get some flavor in food. And as for the servers, Irish servers WORK for their tips by serving their patrons and being upbeat and friendly. We tipped but only because we felt "obligated" since she did bring the beers and food to our table.

We stumbled to this bar on a Saturday night after a Purdue basketball game. So fun! They had an Irish band that was really good and did songs we knew so you could sing along, but also some of their own. I ordered the Irish nachos (yum) and my bf ordered the mussels (also yum). Loved it!

A true Irish pub! When friends or business associates come from out of town, this is where I take them. And when they come back to Lafayette they ASK to be taken here again. I've tried most of the main fare. I love the bangers and mash. Not sure why the earlier reviewer claims the mash is not homemade because it obviously is. If you order the full order of fish and chips be sure to ask for a take out box because you will have some left overs. The shepherd's pie is OK but I'm not a big fan of that dish. The Guiness stew is delicious and thick with a scoop of mash on top. I'm not much of a beer drinker so I can't comment on that. The atmosphere is great. if you have a large group ask for the library room. It's also available for reservation. Seats 12-14 in around the table in a private room. There is a small table and stools if you want to crowd some more in. And yes there really are nine Irish brothers in the O'Bryan family, and five sisters too. Highly recommended.

Well, they serve whiskey old enough to drink itself. ;) And good food. And the female bartender is super-friendly (and cute), and has an impressive drink knowledge. There's 2 location; this entry is for the East side location. We've had nearly everything on the menu, and it's all good. The fish-n-chips is pretty damn good. The chicken's good, the "Irish nachos" are stellar (and FRACKIN' HUGE portion). Pepper steak, good. Mussels, good. Shepherd's Pie... excellent. Tap selection is good. They've always got Guinness, of course. They usually have one or two from People's Brewing Company. And the other usuals you'd expect at an Irish pub. Smithwick's, etc. Whiskey selection is amazing. Secret tip: if you like mussels, order the "spicy mussels." They're NOT on the menu, but you will NOT be disappointed. They're not "deadly" spicy, but have a nice kick. :)

Nothing special. All of the good seating was taken and then you are relegated to the stools with no backs on them. Very uncomfortable seating. Food was not memorable. I think I had a salad with fries. Didn't try the soda bread that comes free with your meal. It did not look appealing. That is probably why it is free.

The service here is very good and since it doesn't get as pack as the one in West Lafayette you can actually have a conversation with the people around. I specially like the way the bar is set up. You can see the people sitting on your side or across the bar so it's very cool. The food has to be the same as their other location so it must be really good. I specially love their Irish pizza but the fish and chips are not bad at all....

I love Nine Irish, they have great food and great beers on tap. It is also a pretty nice atmosphere. My favorite foods their Fish n chips and surprisingly their burger is divine. They have a great bbq sauce and their 'fries' are so good (they are sliced potatoes that are fried). The only thing the menu is really lacking is a proper shepherds pie, theirs is average at best.

I like the look and the feel of this place, great color scheme. The bar area is pretty small. The restaurant is broking up in four different dinning area's. There are clover tiles in the floor, and some cool bar stools at the bar and at the tables. As for my dinning experience that was way below par, I order a appetizer (the Irish nachos) that I didn't get, I order a cup of lobster bis, and I order the tenderloin and chips for my entree. Since I didn't get my appetizer it would have been nice to get my cup of soup a few minutes before my entree how ever I did not everything came all at once. I tried the lobster bis and it was not very good and it was cold, slide the off to the side and try my tenderloin surprisingly it was very good but the chips that came with it were plan out gross, dry cold and over cooked. The server never asked if there was anything wrong with the soup or asked if I didn't like it , you think a server would ask these questions if there customer didn't eat something they ordered. I can see myself going back just because the atmosphere, I just won't order soup or apps. It sad to have such meager service when a place is as slow as it was here.

I live in Galway, Ireland and I must say Mr O'Bryan has done a fine job recreating the atmosphere of an Irish pub, albeit a fancy one. The Irish beers on draught are very good for an American pub. The Guinness is nearly as good as stuff you would get in Ireland. I was amazed to find O'Hara's on draught, especially since I've only seen it in bottles in Ireland! The food could be better. I'm not so sure about "Irish nachos" but I guess that is for American taste buds. The soda bread is good and homemade, but don't mistake it for the real thing. The Connemara chicken was probably the best entree and most like a hearty Irish "carvery lunch" dish. The live music is excellent (bring back Ceann!) and I understand there are weekly Irish dancing lessons, but I've never attended. There are plenty of flat screen TVs showing the Irish network Setanta sports so there is no shortage of rugby, Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. The West Lafayette location definitely has a better vibe. I think it's a bit absurd that patrons bother ordering longneck bottles of Bud and Miller at an Irish pub. Really people?

Went here several times with friends when I would visit Lafayette. The food is ok- nothing special, just ok. The thing that really irritated me on my last visit was the place was so damn dark, you could not read the menu! Seriously! We BEGGED the waitress to turn the lights up just a wee bit so we could see. She refused, saying it was part of their 'ambience' . I've eaten in dim light before, but we actually had to download an iPhone app to illuminate the menus, then passed the iPhone around the table to our fellow diners! NO LIE! Evidently selling food is not high on their list of priorities.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Shepherd's Pie was very good. Others in our party had the corned beef, salmon rolls, and the fisherman's pie and all were excellent. Desserts were all superb!

This is my favorite place to eat in Lafayette. Traditional pub fare and a setting that makes you feel like you just stepped out of a boggy hollow in the UK. I love it. Its old world while still clean and you can watch the game. Prime rib as big as your head, but you can get bangers & mash (english sausage and mashed potatoes), quality fish and chips, and a personal favorite - shepherds pie. You WILL get full and have left overs. Heck, even their hamburger is pretty darn good and HUGE. Their "golden coin" pub chips are astounding (get the shamrock sauce for a zesty, salty dip) and the staff wears kilts and are really friendly. If you are nearby, eat there. Its a bit pricey, but worth every single penny. A note for families: there is no kids seating there, so be prepared to bring your own, if needed.

I finally ventured in to one of the two locations (have not been to the West Side one yet), and had a very charming time. I felt like I had instantly been transported to Ireland. The decor and atmosphere were great, and the food was incredible as well! Even though it is a bit different I recommend trying the Plowman's Special....the cheeses are fabulous!

Since this place opened, I don't know that I have ever seen the parking lot even close to empty. This is another version of the faboo place they have on the West Side. Good atmosphere and good food. Only reason they don't get more stars is because I like the atmosphere of the WL place better.

We had my daughter's graduation dinner there last May, and experienced what I thought was some pretty blah to rude service. I wrote to the restaurant a couple of weeks afterward detailing our experience and never got an answer. That was six months ago, so I probably never will. But there are plenty of other restaurants in town so this one is way down on my recs list. I feel the very least a restaurant can do in a case like this is offer an apology, or at the very, very least, respond to the complaint.

Just meh. I was glad it was a slow Thursday night, because it was quiet. I was seated promptly and greeted my my server quickly. The corner I was seated in was dark - made it tough to read my menu. It took some doing to select a beer - drafts were listed on the menu, but several were not available. I chose Bangers and Mash with steamed veggies for my meal. The best thing on the plate was the gravy. The sausages were apparently par-boiled ahead and grilled before serving. The casings were tough and hard to cut with a table knife; the meat within was mushy. The potatoes tasted like instant - certainly not what I expect at an Irish pub. The veggies were grilled, which would have been ok if they hadn't been predominantly green peppers with just a little zucchini. And, the Irish soda bread (an old family recipe) was dry and unappealing. I will look for another restaurant on my next visit to Lafayette.

Would not return. Lobster Bisque turned out to be Lobster water. Not one grain of lobster in it and no cream style either. And it was pricey. Perhaps the worst I've ever had. Then came the fried pickle appetizer. Can't screw that up, right? We got 8 hamburger style sliced pickles. 8...Maybe 1/5 of a pickles worth? We just stared at it and wondered if they dropped them in the back or something. These weren't cheap either, came out to about $1 for each SLICE of pickle. At this point, were done with this place. Fish and Chips were OK, nothing magical. At least they had Malt Vinegar...
