I haven't actually visited this restaurant, although I had intended to. This place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves after their recent restaurant inspection (Oct 3rd). With the huge list of violations, it is amazing they didn't kill someone or make someone seriously ill.

They have live fish, crab, and lobsters at the restaurant. They are soooooo fresh!!! The price is reasonable, $19.99 for the lobster $29.99 for the crab (around 2lb). The best restaurant that offers live sea food around campus.

We were out on Christmas Eve Eve, looking for someplace to have dinner, only everything seemed to be closed. Fortunately we stumbled upon Harbor City as we were driving around downtown Lafayette. The place was obviously brand new, as the walls looked freshly painted and there was still plastic wrap on the flatscreen TVs on the walls. We sat down and our waitress left us a traditional Chinese menu, but neither me nor my dinner companion were that interested in that type of experience at that particular time. The waitress then brought us the "Americanized Chinese" menu, so we ordered some of our normal fare - an order of General's chicken and an order of shrimp with snow peas. The food arrived quickly, and was honestly some of the best-tasting chinese food we've had in a while. I can't say there was anything unique about it, other than the flavors, which were more vivid and enjoyable than in many of the chinese places I frequent in either Lafayette or Bloomington. I can't vouch for the traditional Chinese menu, but if it's of similar quality to the American Chinese menu, then you'll be in good shape. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

One day I decided to order chicken wings from this place and by god, it was the best chicken wings I've had around here by a mile. Really, it was so good that the next day i tried to order nothing but chicken wings. Unfortunately for everyone involved in the transaction, its impossible for you to order anything other than 4 chicken wings for 3.50. Since I did not want to pay for 4 chicken wings 4 times, I called up and asked if some custom order can be made for those amazing chicken wings. Apparently it cannot, they resisted any attempts at compromise saying the ONLY way I'll get these chicken wings is if I pay 3.50 for 4 of them. In the end, I'm pretty sure the both of us were frustrated at her lack of prowess in the English language and ended up with her cursing me out. RIP top tier chicken wings :(

My boyfriend has been telling me about Harbor City's chicken dishes for a while now, but I had been hesitant to try due to a health inspector review previously mentioned in another review. After lots of "you don't know what you're missing" and hearing from friends who work in restaurants about the politics of health inspectors, I decided to go. The inside is nothing special, but my boyfriend was right. The chicken dishes were amazing! Other diners were eating from a hot pot bowl that looked good too. We had the spicy sizzling chicken which was delicious and fresh! We also had a Thai curry dish that was also very flavorful and good. My boyfriend likes the Ma po tofu and red chili chicken too. I'll have to try that next time. Skip the first couple pages of the menu and Americanized Chinese dishes. The other dishes are the best and there are other protein options like duck and beef. Menu was easy to read too and has English descriptions as well as Chinese. New favorite Chinese restaurant!

The Harbor City restaurant, 220 Columbia St., in Lafayette had the most violations last year with 56 -- a dozen more than the next highest restaurant. They include 27 critical violations which can make you sick including dead flies in a sugar container, live flies in the kitchen and adult and baby roaches behind several canisters and around the fish tank. Inspectors also warned the restaurant six times and fined it once.

This place has horrible delivery times, waited over an hour and a half for our order, never ordering from this place again.

We went here on New Year's Eve and when we arrived we were only the third table of two in the restaurant. I wanted a duck dish but they didn't have any duck so we had the pork with peppers (very spicy) and the shrimp with fried noodles instead. We also ordered the BBQ pork buns for an appetizer but they still hadn't arrived by the time we got our main dishes. I asked about the buns and a few minutes later we were given dumplings instead. In other words, I didn't get either of the dishes that I had been craving. They have a tiny dim sum (maybe 9 items) section on the menu. The food was ok, but it wasn't outstanding and the service still needs some work.

When I called the lady stayed on the phone and then just continued her conversation with her buddy in the back. Food was never delivered two me and I was charged twice for the food which I will be disputing and not paying a dime. Never ordering for here again. Worst experience ever.

The best Chinese delivery place I've found in the area so far. The food is very decent, and it's never taken them more than 30 minutes to bring my order. I stopped in to grab a to-go order once as well, and the staff were all friendly and helpful.

This restaurant has been AWFUL both times I ordered. The first time, they got the order wrong. The food itself was unflavorful but okay if you're desperate and want something cheap. The second time I ordered I found a LONG BLACK HAIR in my fried rice. For a second I thought it might be a bean sprout or some other Chinese ingredient, and I almost ate it before I realized what it was. and get this, when I called to complain, she said I needed to bring the food back for a refund. I told her I did not have a car and that even if I did, it makes no sense for me to waste my gas money for a disgusting filthy hair they're responsible for! I asked that they have a delivery person who delivered it to me take it back and she said no. Then she hung up on me. I called back, same excuses, another hang up. I called back one last time and said "I'm a paying customer, I've ordered here before and not had an issue, so you disrespecting me is horrible customer service". And this chick had the nerve to tell me"it's okay, you no have to order here anymore." Well DUH. But I still should be able to get my money back! Besides writing this honest review of their dusty and filthy establishment, I intend to get a health inspector involved. If you get desperate and eat here (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I IMPLORE YOU NOT TO DO IT), eat it in a WELL-LIT place and stir through your rice a few times before you eat it. (but seriously though, just get some Mcdonald's or Pizza Hut, even without the hairs, this food is disgusting and will not fill you up for more than 2 minutes).

My son and daughter-in-law joined me after a day of moving boxes on a late June Monday night. We walked in and no one else was dining there. The waiter seated us and handed us menus; then left and returned about 5 min. Later to ask us for drinks and our order. Left again. Long story short. Service was pathetic. Took us 1.5 hrs. And we were in a hurry. Only one other party came in so we should have been able to have the waiter's nearly full attention. Good was excellent , served hot, and big portions. Egg foo yung, moo goo gai pan; and pork lo mein. Waiter checked us out up-front but gave us rounded-up change. Will probably have better luck with delivery until they have a better trained staff.

Below average Chinese food. We first tried to go there on Chinese New Year but the whole restaurant had been booked for a private event. We managed to get in the next time we wanted to eat out but i wish we had been as lucky with the food. We tried the shredded pork with garlic sauce and chicken with spicy peppers (?) from the traditional Chinese menu. Both dishes were sub-par and I don't think we'll be back.

Below average Chinese food. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and found the chicken to be mushy as bland and the rice to be undercooked. Also the egg drop soup I had ordered was cold. However, the wait staff was friendly and attentive and the decor and overall environment of the restaurant to be of a higher standard than most other Chinese food restaurants. Additionally, the menu and the flyer that was delivered to my home claims that they offered soda and an egg roll included in every lunch or dinner special, but once in the restaurant, they said they no longer honor it since it was a 'typo'. The restaurant is a different change of pace as compared to other and impressed with its 'fancier' dine-in experience, but the food was sorely lacking in many ways.

Three of us gave this a try on a Wednesday evening. Two marks against them from the get go - the only alcohol that they have is beer, and the decor is reminds me of a strip mall delicatessen with thick clear plastic covering the tables. The lighting just smacks you in the face - it's too bright. We ordered an app of Pork wontons. They arrived over fried and dry. A faint taste of old pork was noticeable. We could not eat them and sent them back. We were surprised to get another order to replace them. Although they were not as over fried, they were still dry and smelled like spoiled pork. My plate of Singapore mei fun was supposed to be spicy with shrimp, chicken and something unrecognizable. It was boring; chicken was very dry and uneatable. A plate of Empress Chicken did not impress. We could not get past the chopped up little bits of bones and the odd garlic sauce. We found 2 items worth consuming; egg foo young and a spicy pork noodle soup with more noodles than soup. With all of the negatives about this place, we will not give it a second chance.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
