Sushi was good. Also had teriyaki shrimp and it was just ok. Way to salty and not very warm. We had a huge party with reservations and was there for 3 hours. Took forever to get the food and the people who ordered first got theirs nearly 2 hours after ordering. The waitress worked her self to death. Felt bad for her. She had another waitress helping in the beginning and she just walled away and said she couldn't handle it. ??? Floors were really sticky too.

So there we were, in the Marriott across the street from this restaurant. I said to the husband, "look, there's a Japanese steak house right behind us! We should have dinner there!" Well, our server was nice so no complaints there. Some of the other staff seemed, lost. Like, "oh I don't know what comes with this order.... (other guy) "I don't know either, just throw the veggies in there!" There was weird activity going on. For example, there was this guy going back and forth from a room in the back to outside to a parked car. We sat next to a window and two separate cars (which is where that guy kept going to) lit there headlights right into our faces for about 30 minutes. So yeah, weird $hi* going on there. On to the food... We ordered the steak plate ($20) that comes with sushi, veggies, miso soup, and rice. It was blah. Nothing awesome, pretty plain. Rice was undercooked, meat was kinda gross. I could have spent my $20 dollars elsewhere. Overall, go somewhere else.

Nothing special on the quality of the food. Portions are massive on the hibachi side, the last time I had the sushi it was fine, not spectacular. There was good showmanship on the part of the chef who had many pranks which we took with good humor. I think it was a bit pricey, to be honest but the soup and the salad were yummy. I wouldn't go seek this place out but if it's what around and you're nearby, you'll get fed and like it. :)

When you order a New York Strip dinner you expect the steak to be an actual NY Strip. The steak they served us was some other cut of meat. Not NY Strip. While plentiful it did not have the same texture and was easily seen as not being NY Strip. Dinner over all was good, it was very crowded. Call ahead for reservations for Teppenyaki table if you plan to go. Personally, I will not be returning.

Nice enough place, grill cooks are entertaining in a standard "onion volcano, toss an egg up and split it open with your spatula on the way down" way. Food off the menu is solid but nothing to write home about. Sushi is good, rolls are OK, but not spectacular. We go in once a year for the past 3 in a group of 10 or so. That some in our group like to order sushi seems to bother one of the waitresses and the sushi service (to our grill table) is painfully slow. In fact, she gave us down right attitude last time. If you want a Japanese steakhouse and sushi this is as good as the average. I wanted to give them 3 stars but Little Miss Japanese Attitude has given us attitude two years in a row now so they get 2 stars and a sloppy Bronx cheer as I look for another place to entertain my customers and drop $500 + $100 tip at this fall. I don't know about you, but if I'm going to get attitude at a restaurant the food better be Soup-Nazi, to-die-for, its-a-privilege-to-eat-there good. It aint. (We are *not* an obnoxious, hard to please crew, btw)

Good sushi rolls. Lots of "spicy" everything if you are into that. Several good combinations that they have come up with. I liked the deep fried Tsunami roll. If you like pork loin, there is a yummy dish on the menu for the table side. They also have a "grill" side with the usual hibachi grill offerings. Not a fan of their mustard sauce.

MRS says... we went again saturday evening around 8pm and it was busy. we had to wait at least 30mins to free up hibachi grill. now i wonder if i was hungry that i finished everything on my plate or the portions were a little on the low side? for the first time, i did not have any leftover food. i did not have to ask for a togo box. service was still pleasant. drinks were constantly filled up. im just not too happy with the portions of the fried rice and vegetables

I've been here on several occasions. I've always had a good meal. The hibachi is good and they have a couple of chefs that are really elite.

Be prepared to wait a very long time for your food. I wasn't planning on a two hour lunch.

I actually tried the place twice as I just wanted some good sushi while in town and staying across the street. Both times the sushi was less than average, with an unimpressive presentation and something they were trying to pass for Saki. Too bad there aren't any real choices in this city.

We visited this location many times over the last several years. Probably around 12 times in 1 year. I have always preferred Kobe over shoguns because the food quality was usually better and I appreciated the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately today's lunch was a disaster. Like every other visit I asked to order a lettuce wrap appetizer, a salad, and sushi as my meal since I do not like the hibachi grill items. I have done this probably eight to ten times at this location without ever having any issues at all. in fact my meal ends up costing 3 - $4 more than the person that orders hibachi. On this day the manager informed me that he does not approve of this and won't allow me to do this ever again. His exact words were I will let you do it today but never again. I can't express my frustration level with the manager of a store that treat the customers like this. I tried to cancel my chicken wrap because at that point I was concerned how well it was going to be made and shockingly the chicken wrap was very poor. I've vented my frustration to the servers but make sure I tip them well as it was not their fault. needless to say we will not be using this location again.

I've tried both sides of this restaurant. The hibachi grill and the sushi. Each have been great. Fast and friendly service, great tasting food, not too expensive and a convenient location.

Was traveling for business this past week and decided to try kobe. I didn't have the hibachi, but the sushi was the best i ever had. The staff was courteous and friendly. The Kobe secret roll is great. I look forward to traveling back to Louisville for more sushi!

Average sushi, terrible service. Didn't try the hibachi, but it looked like standard fare. Prices are average for a sushi place, drink selection was pedestrian and overpriced. First and last visit to this joint.

WARNING: Stay away from this place. While on business tried this place with two co workers. They ordered teriyaki type stuff and I got a sushi&roll combo. The indifferent waitress brought their food and 25 minutes later I was still waiting for mine. When we complained it fell on deaf ears with not even an we're sorry. On top of that the food was well below par. I finally told them to put it in a to go box and they didn't discount the bill one cent. Thank goodness our company was paying for this fiasco. If you go to this place don't say I didn't warn you.

Do not eat here if you have a food allergy or want good service. My girlfriend, a friend, and I ate here on 6-4-13. The restaurant was not busy, about a third of the tables occupied. We were seated at a hibachi table. We ordered drinks, which consisted exclusively of bottled beer and vodka mixed fruity conconctions, and glasses of water. Our water showed up about five minutes after the drinks. We ordered entrees. My friend ordered hibachi vegetables and specified that she was highly allergic to mushrooms. The waitress grunted in agreement and walked away. When the chef came out, he verified our orders and attempted to confirm that my friend wanted double mushrooms. We corrected him, insisting that my friend was highly allergic to mushrooms. He proceeded to pick the mushrooms out and push them to the side of the grill, touching each one with his spatula, before continuing to cook the rest of the food. Dismayed, my friend called for a manager and attempted to correct the issue. The manager said that he would cook her vegetables in the back kitchen. My girlfriend and I, along with the rest of the table, received our food and finished before the manager, or anyone for that matter, visited our table. Eventually, the manager comes out with only vegetables. My friend looked down at her empty plate and then asked, "What about the rice and shrimp?" The manager argued with her, insisting that she should have told him about that. (The chef didn't serve her any food, by the way) Defeated, he returned to the kitchen. During the next thirty minutes, while my friend waited for the rest of her food, we wondered where our waitress, who we had not seen since we got drinks, soup, and salad, had gone. When the food finally arrived, we immediately got boxes and asked for the check. My friend was charged full price. She told the manager that she should not have go pay full price for a slow, difficult-to-obtain meal at a place where they don't even know how to handle food allergies. They eventually took $5 off her bill. I give this place two stars because my food was decent, but I won't be going back, and I don't recommend you do either. The price tag is too high for such inferior service.

Worst service. The server brought our drinks and never came back to take our order, we had to get up to giver her our order. And that pattern of not caring never stopped .

Stopped in when the restaurant opened and ended up sitting at a table for close to an hour until it was full before they brought a chef out. The sushi was "ok", nothing to really write home about and it wasn't something I'd really try again. The meal came with standard showiness which is expected at this type of restaurant. The meat was not very flavorful and for some reason the vegetables were disintegrating on the plate. I'm not really sure what exactly they did to the veggies to get this effect, but it was certainly not appetizing. The atmosphere was rather nice, and the Koi fish were amazing! All in all, I wouldn't come back.

Pretty decent sushi, the Teppanyaki was awesome, the drinks were strong, and the service was slightly below par.

Kobe is fine, but not great. We were seated at one of the grills on a Tuesday night with nary another group in the deceptively large restaurant. This was probably not the best option for a business-ish dinner because the four of us were talking and catching up and I think that it may have detracted from the chef's performance and his own enthusiasm. I can't say for sure that this was the reason why, but the egg tricks, onion volcano and choo-choo train all seemed half-hearted. The service was excellent with drinks delivered, refilled, empty plates removed etc. all happening quickly. The chicken-broth-based soup was light and tasty, as was the small salad. I was less pleased by the fried rice, shrimp and salmon that I ordered though. Again, they weren't bad, but not something I would go out of my way for. The fried rice started off by being amazing. But then, like drinking a large bottle of too-sweet soda, the overwhelming flavor eventually gets to be too much. Both the shrimp and the salmon had excellent marinades, but were overcooked and a little chewy. The staff is very accomodating to food particularities. One of our group doesn't eat meat and a differnt type of soup was provided, for example. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining because it isn't bad, but it is A-OK.

Our monthly dinner group had our monthly dinner Saturday night at Kobe. After reading previous reviews I was happy we incurred no problems that were previously reported. The service was good drink orders taken quickly, water glasses refilled and dirty dishes removed quickly. The server was very polite and quick to respond to requests. We ate at the iron grill. The iron grill is where the chef prepares the food in front of you. The meals began with a broth soup with mushrooms and shallots. The soup was light and refreshing. The next course was a small cold crisp salad with a ginger based dressing, very good. The group ordered, shrimp, Kobe steak, chicken breast, salmon, scallops, shrimp & steak combo and vegetarian. The meal started with fried rice. The chef put on a show tossing a raw egg in the shell and catching it in his chefs hat and assorted other egg in the shell tricks. The fried rice was tasty and everyone enjoyed it. We all got two fried shrimp for appetizers, they were garlicky, not overcooked, very flavorful. Vegetables were cooked on the grill, mushrooms, broccoli, etc., well seasoned and tasty. Everyone enjoyed their main courses, no complaints, unusual with a group of ten. I had the Kobe steak, a NY sirloin, very tender and flavorful. Most of us took home food as portions are huge. Prices are good the chicken was $14 including soup, salad, fried rice, vegetables with the most expensive being the steak & shrimp mid $20's. Beer is $3 and up, wine $5 and up, and they have a fully stocked bar with speciality drinks. I would go back to Kobe without hesitation.

Great fun place- sat a party of 11 at 9:20- great fun chef- sushi is high grade and our table had many different requests due to allergies and he rolled right with it! I highly recommend!

First lets set some standards. I go to Kobe for the Teppanyaki. If I am going out for Sushi, or something else, I wouldn't come to Kobe. There are much better Sushi and "other" restaurants out there. But the Teppanyaki is Excellent. (Let me take a moment - the stove/cooking method is NOT a hibachi.) The ingredients were VERY fresh, the "Combination Dinners" are actually a pretty good value though not 'cheap'. The Sauces that come served with all parts of the meal were very tasty and the personalities involved in the Production and service were pleasant and entertaining. The "Signature Drinks" are STRONG. The Plum wine served with the Chef's Dinner was excellent and a great compliment to the food. Come here for a 'show'. For entertainment, sitting with a group of friends etc. And try the Calamari. Long pieces in a very LIGHT batter. Totally not a preparation I've seen before. Superior by far to the 'other' Chain style Teppanyaki Restaurant many are used to, this location does what I came here for very well.
