Other than the typical load of MSG common to Oriental restaurants, the Great Wall lunch buffet is a favorite of ours. We seldom do buffets because they generally get pretty messy, but the staff of this restaurant keeps things clean and the kitchen keeps the steam tables fresh. There are usually 3 or 4 chicken dishes and 2 beef dishes in addition to the pork. I prefer the chicken and add the mixed veggies and then layer the whole thing with Lo Mein noodles.

We live locally and used to eat here once a week. Now it's once every few months. Since they remodeled a few months ago they did expand their buffet offerings. The crab Rangoon and cashew chicken and chicken strips in a stick are usually pretty good. The chicken on a stick is now 25% of the size it used to be. The egg rolls have changed a few times over the last few years. Currently the taste is good but evidently they are not fried at the correct temperature because they're wet with grease and at times soggy. The staff is friendly but has significant turnover as is typical of many restaurants. My biggest objection is the price increase since the remodel. You can call to check on the accuracy but from my memory weekday lunch is $8.99. We used to come on Sunday for lunch. No more. They (when we were there on a Sunday) no longer offered a lunch price on the weekend. It was a dinner price at lunch time of $11.99. I don't want to stuff myself to feel like I have to get my money's worth. But if you get one plate like my wife does it is definitely not worth the price. That may explain why this place used to be packed. But no more. A party of 3 of us with buffet, drink and a tip was $40 for lunch midweek and $50 for lunch on Sunday. Too high of a price for this food in this small Midwest town.

I would never leave a review to be hateful or untruthful, I just want to put that up front. However, the food at this restaurant today made my stomach turn. The bonus: I didn't overeat! My visit was at 1:30 this afternoon. The staff....AMAZING!! Super friendly, genuinely nice. The buffet......NASTY with a capital N!!!! Very little (or no) food in the pans. What was there was all dried up, maybe a spoonful left in the pan. Sweet and sour sauce had a very thick layer of film on it, yuck. I asked for General Tso chicken, which they prepared and brought a small amount to the buffet. However, it wasn't cooked through and the chicken was raw. Fried rice was cold right off the buffet and had to have it warmed in the microwave. Thankfully I ate enough packaged crackers to get somewhat filled up on. I was surprised though, to see staff rolling out of the kitchen with fresh food on their plates, which wasn't offered on the buffet. I will never return to this restaurant based on the food quality alone. Waste of money.

The real #1 China Buffet! Indy is stocked full of Chinese buffets, none of which are that great. The Great Wall in Jasper is the best by far. If PF Chang's had a buffet, it would taste like this. Fantastic atmosphere as well. This will definitely settle that Chinese craving.

Very crowded seating area and you have to squeeze by tightly packed tables. The buffet room is narrow with people on both sides and kitchen staff running in and out. Anything but a relaxing meal. The food itself is on the low quality side.
