I'm really digging the rotating selections at Tomlinson and the laid back quiet atmosphere of the bar. Located on the second floor of the City Market, most people don't know about this place, making it a favorite for locals who want to get away and just enjoy themselves for the evening. Menus are printing about every evening as the selections can change several times a day. If you're hungry, Tomlinson's has teamed up with Circle City Soups so you can grab some delicious wings or sandwiches to eat while keeping your beer money inside the Hoosier State! Open till 9 most nights..

I can't believe it took me so long to pay a visit to Tom Tap. I've been to a similar concept in Nashville, TN and loved it. How can you argue with the ability to fill growlers with beers from multiple breweries in one location? If I had one complaint, it would be the number of beers that are available. Many of the beers are only available by pint, rather than growler. If the beer is rare, I'd rather see an expensive growler price instead of no availability. If you are in the City Market and in need of a fresh local brew, pop up to the second floor and sit down for a while. You might must make some interesting new friends.

This is a great location to grab a beer. Both times that I have been here it hasn't been too busy. There's always a place to sit and great beers on tap. We have found hard-to-get beers here that you can't get anywhere else. Another plus, there is food close by!
(4)Stephanie D.
Really great spot to have a brew from Indiana and enjoy the sights and sounds of the City Market. I am really glad TTR is located in a historical building giving people more of a reason to check out what's going on at City Market. During my summers, I like to come on an afternoon and grab a pint..talk to whomever is sitting next to me and watch the world go by down below. They always have a great selection and some really good prices on varying days. TTR is also known for throwing events or being part of events so it's important you check out what's going on before heading down sometimes. But it is such a great place if you live downtown or commute downtown as a lot of workers hang out there during the week!!

How cool is it to have the a market like the City Market in Indianapolis...and how much cooler is it to sit above it all and watch people bustle below while sipping a phenominal - likely local, but definitely Indiana - beer!? That is what Tomlinson Tap Room is all about! I honestly wish I went here more often. Affordable and high quality drafts, and a cool location - what more could you ask for! P.S. Dreaming of the summertime when I can sit outside in the Market Plaza sipping the Hoosier Brews and listen to live music! Can't wait!

My love for Indianapolis bursts when I come into Tomlinson. I'm going to sing my praises because (01) I get an excuse to walk into City Market, (02) Tomlinson keeps it local, and (03) I get to try Indiana brews that I can't get in most bars (i.e. Three Pints, Danny Boy, Bulldog Brewing). You do you, Tomlinson!
(5)Ian J.
In the upper seating area of City Market. Great IN beer selection and plenty of seating. Have a banh mi from Three Carrots downstairs with a pint.
(5)Corrie A.
Ben is awesome. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious beer. Ben is very knowledgeable about the beer, helpful and friendly; committed to great service. Thanks for a great time!
(5)Julia L.
Love this place! The location is pretty sweet, the beer is good and the noshes are good too (spicy popcorn mix) There are only a couple downsides and hence the 4 and not 5 stars. First, the bathroom is so far away and I am so lazy! Also, I wish this place was open longer and/or had another location. The third is just that I wish there were more IPAs but that's just because I love IPAs so much! Really I would go to this place any day of the week!
(4)Mark F.
Great selection of Indiana (only) craft brews. (And a few wines.) Fantastic food from the City Market vendors. This is the locals' "secret stash" place downtown. Yum!!

After enjoying a nice lunch at City Market, we decided to try out a beer at Tomlinson Tap Room. We had heard about this place when it opened, as it received much fanfare on local radio programs. We always like to sample local beers and wines, so I was surprised it took us this long to end up here. The location is superb, on the upper floor of City Market. It makes for some great people-watching. It was reasonably busy when we were there, but the service was still prompt and friendly. The bar tender was knowledgeable about the beers available. They have a long list of Indiana beers on tap as well as a list of bottles and cans. In addition, they serve wines from favorite local wineries such as Oliver and Mallow Run. I tried a Monon Wheat, which was only available in a can. It was delicious and I would strongly recommend it. In addition, it is brewed right out on the west side in Avon. My only complaint was that they didn't have many (any?) options on tap for someone who likes lighter-flavored beers. Price-wise, it was very reasonable, especially given the selection.
(4)Janice Ann R.
Went here for the first time yesterday. What took me so long? There they were, waiting patiently, perched right above my head in the City Market. They should put more of these everywhere! Fresh, local beer from different Indiana breweries with a rotating selection. Grab something to eat down below, bring it upstairs. Take your pick of many styles of beer. Got some La Maison from Taxman Brewery in Bargersville,X- because I had tried & enjoyed it at the State Fair. Perfect with my smoky pulled seitan & slaw sandwich from Three Carrots. Very unique atmosphere, in the middle of everything yet tucked away above the Market. Great place to try different brews in one setting; Triton, Indiana City, New Day, Daredevil, to name a few. This would be a great place to bring out-of-town guests to showcase what's being done in Indiana today.
(5)Kaela V.
TomTap is in a unique location up on the second floor of the city market. It has a great selection of local beers and even offers a small food menu now. This is a great spot to come with friends after work and chat over drinks.
(4)Peter D.
Best bar in Indianapolis. All drafts are from the state of Indiana. No other alcohol. Just beer. All drafts under $6. This is the only place thus far that I've found 18th Street Brewery out of Gary (can't even find it in Chicago, but I know that is because they only distribute to Indiana bars/stores). They had Three Floyds' Gumballhead when I went, and the bar itself is on the top floor of the vastly underrated and underused City Market. Where are you Indianapolitans? Support this establishment!
(5)Brittany C.
My office is a block from the city market so I am a frequent visitor. Unfortunately, it is typically for lunch and drinking at lunch is frowned upon. However, I live close as well and am a huge craft beer fan so I've made a point to stop in here to have a couple pints. It's a low key place on the top floor on the city market where craft beer lovers hang out. It's never been crowded when I've been there, which I love and the staff is always super friendly. They have somewhere close to 20 taps that rotate constantly with beers from all over Indiana. If you enjoy craft beer, check it out!
(4)Samantha P.
Well, let me just start by saying that I should have read the reviews before trying to find this place, it would have saved us some time and looking like confused weirdos on the street. So, I am repeating what others have already said, this is inside the City Market upstairs. Ok, moving on... It was a Saturday night and we were looking for a place to hang out for a bit after dinner, this place is perfect for that! It is a pretty small area but we got lucky and a large group left leaving a perfect table for the 6 of us. You have to go to the bar to order which is no big deal since menus are abundant and it was nice to read the options before heading up to the bar. All local beers and wine and a pretty good variety, awesome, got me some New Day Meadery! However, they lose a star because they were out of 2 different things I tried to order. :( So keep that in mind. Luckily, I can improvise and picked other good options. They do close on the early side, this isn't a "stay all night" type of place, but an excellent place for a post dinner drink or a good place to meet up with friends before heading somewhere else.
(4)Wayne Z.
Very cool little spot hidden away on the 2nd floor/mezzanine level of the City Market. Took me a while to find it as the market itself was deserted for the most part due to it being a weekday and the thundershowers that had hit the area earlier. I was the only patron in there from about 7:45-8:45 until a small group showed up for a round. With that said, the bartender was super friendly and helpful and didn't make me feel unwelcome at all (she clearly stated she'd be there til 9pm closing time regardless). We even chatted for a bit and she recommended a few places that may be worth checking out for food and beer. I had a sampler and another bottle and was pretty impressed by their selection of local offerings. Would definitely come back if I were in town again.
(4)Ronak S.
This place is sorely under-attended for such an outstanding promoter of local craft beer and microbrews. For being tucked in as bustling a venue as City Market, the tap room itself feels like a small pub frequented by regulars, with a couple of unobtrusive TVs and a volume that lets you carry on a conversation. The beer list is constantly changing, and on any given day you're bound to find something new. If you're looking for a great place to try new beer that you can't find anywhere else at an affordable price, this is the place to go. There are always deals and specials on different days to encourage you to try something new, including on flights, and you can get a growler filled there too. The tap room as really been promoting their beer garden outside, too, which is especially nice on a market day when there is a lot of activity outside. Most of the drinks pair well with food sold at the market, too. If you're downtown on a weekday, especially around lunchtime, this should definitely be one of your stops.
(5)Dylan E.
I have frequently stopped in here on Saturday afternoons for a pint of beer after getting something to eat at the market or just as a refresher after a day or biking around downtown, but I recently made the trip here on a Saturday night that would usually consist of the more stereotypical bar scene for me. I wasn't the only one who had the same idea, as pretty much the entire bar along with a few of the surrounding tables were full. It seemed like there were quite a few people there that knew each other and the bartenders, so I am assuming they get a decent amount of regulars. I got one of the last seats at the bar and, as always, took a while to go through the beer list as it is always changing and always chocked full of stuff I have never seen anywhere else. The two things that I have found to be consistent here are the quantity of ever rotating beers that I haven't heard of before, and the quality of every beer that they serve. The focus is on Indiana beers and they showcase not only Indianapolis beers, but breweries from all around the state. The selection goes from simple pilsners and lagers to barrel aged stouts and saisons. The bartenders are up to par on knowing the beer that they are serving and can give you a recommendation based on your preferences. The service here has been kind of hit and miss for me. Sometimes I get fantastic service even when they are busy, and sometimes it seems like unless I am a regular or sporting a hipster vibe that I get minimal attention at the bar even when I am one of a few people. I have always found the customers at the bar to be very nice and outgoing through. The bar definitely has an older feel to it, but they do have a couple TVs up so you won't miss the game going here. The atmosphere is much more laid back and quiet than most other bars in the city, and is a nice place to get some beers and have a conversation with friends without having to talk over a crowd or loud music. The location is City Market is different, and it feels very open and provides for a fun aerial view of all the hustle and bustle through the different shops downstairs when they are busy. If you like getting good beer in a quiet setting, than this is the place for you. The hours aren't fantastic due to their location in the market, but they are open until 9 so you don't have to rush out after work to get here. On a Saturday they open at noon so you can grab lunch at one of the many places serving food downstairs and take it up to the bar and get your beer there. They have specials just about every night of the week, and some of them are really good especially considering the types of beer that you get. This is more of a 4.5 star review for me because I wish the service in such a small intimate bar setting was consistently better, but everything else earns them the favorable rounding.
(5)John W.
If you're an out of town beer geek, Tomlinson Taproom should be your first stop on the pub crawl. The list is all local, meaning Indiana and it's well balanced (not overloaded with IPA's). The staff know what they're serving ( no small feat since the list is always changing), and are therefore a great help for navigating the list. Sampling/tastes are encouraged so don't be shy in asking questions. Much the same can be said for the patrons at the bar, too. Tomlinson Taproom is a beer geek watering hole. From either side of the bar you will be guided to the city's many breweries and pubs. Now if a bar patron offers you a taste... you'll figure it out.
(5)Benjamin M.
One of my initial stops in Indy was to the highly praised Tomlinson Tap Room. After spending an evening Happy Hour there, I have to admit I'm now sitting proudly on their bandwagon. And no, it's not just because they have power outlets on the front side of the bar, although it definitely didn't hurt one bit. Less is more and I love the simplicity of their operation. A few scattered tables and bar on the second floor corner of the City Market is pretty much the gist of it. If you make a visit, you might think you're in the wrong place since most of the market will have already closed up shop for the day. But, remain steadfast and head up the stairs. If you stop by just for food, you'll probably be bummed. If you're stopping by for a quality, local craft beer, then you'll probably be beaming. With 16 rotating taps, I dare you to find something you don't like. I started out light with a Sun King Sunlight cream ale and followed that with the Brugge Pooka, a tasty sour brew. There were a few other ones I wanted to try, but I summoned some internal pacing discipline. Oh, and during Happy Hour on Mondays and Tuesdays you don't have to break your wallet since all drafts are only $3.50! Yeah, I know, it's crazy. Crazy awesome!
(5)Jon C.
They always have the beer I'm craving. The bartenders know what they're talking about to boot.
(5)Kendra S.
Such a great place to stop for a few beers right I the heart of the city! Great views while you sit and chat, stop down stairs for some local grub while you drink... I really enjoy stopping here when I'm in the area, or after shopping the winters farmers market!
(5)Janice C.
We were staying within easy walking distance of this unassuming tap room on the top floor of the City Market so we stopped by to check out the local beer scene. Nice selection of different styles from around the state at reasonable prices. The first time we went we had a snack off the menu -- a ham and cheese slider which was better than it had any right to be. We went back on a Saturday for another beer, but were disappointed to learn that they don't do food on Saturdays since the rest of their menu had looked pretty good. I'm assuming they rely on other vendors in the market for their menu, most of which are closed Saturday evening. If I lived and/or worked anywhere nearby, this spot would become a regular for me due to the atmosphere, good beer, and overall friendliness of the bar staff and patrons.
(5)Jim H.
This was the best place I visited for a variety of local craft beers while in Indianapolis for a conference recently. The staff were very helpful and professional, while also friendly and casual as it was a weeknight and I think the place stayed open extra late until the end of a Colts game. Best brews I tried were by Three Floyd's and Sun King. All very good. Best part though, folks, is the price. I had 3 beers (2 pints, 1 limited 16 oz. can), which came to a whopping total of $7. $2 pints...that's a good deal!!! Can't wait for the next time (maybe never), that I'm in Indy and get to visit Tomlinson Tap Room. Next time I'll stop by on my first (rather than last) night in town. (Colts eventually beat Tennessee, which I saw from my hotel room; so all in all it was a winning night in a strange town.)
(5)Ian P.
Best beer bar in the city, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, you could go to one of those mega-tap bars that keep popping up (where you get the same beers you can find at any bar or liquor store in the city), but for my money, a well-curated small tap-list is much better. So many good beers, the servers are awesome, and they allow food from the vendors downstairs!
(5)Donald N.
Great atmosphere I'm unaccustomed to in Maryland. It's small, personal, and friendly. The staff was fantastic, informative about the brews, and pleasant in every way possible. My only complaint, if it can really even be considered such, is the limited yet delicious, menu. I'd recommend for anyone passing through or resident to the area.
(4)Kana A.
Bartender was very friendly and the atmosphere was cute above the market. Great for people watching if you go at a time when the market is open. My husband enjoyed the variety of beers they had. Went on a Monday afternoon and it was already relatively busy upstairs but the market was closed.
(5)KC K.
A bar that closes at 9 on a Thursday...to get to it you must walk through a ghost town market. The atmosphere is awkward, I almost felt like I had broken into the building and was going to get arrested at any point. The bar itself is nothing impressive, very simple with not a lot of seating. What they do have is a selection of only local or Indiana made beers which I really appreciated. I'm just not sure why anyone would ever set out with a purpose to go here. I guess if you are already at the market and have a sudden thirst for craft beer....well...this may be a good idea. You take this beer list and put it at a better location and you've got a 5 star joint!
(2)Billy V.
Tomlinson Tap Room is located in City Market which makes it a bit awkward as a beer bar considering most everything else in the Market closes around 2:30 in the afternoon. They do have a limited food selection, but the real reason to go here is for their beer. They feature a broad selection of Indiana beers and their taps are continually rotating. Bottom line is this is a great beer spot in downtown Indy, but the setting is a bit maladroit. Make sure you check their website or Twitter account before heading so you know what food and beer options to expect on that day.
(4)Catherine K.
Fantastic selection of local beer. Tonight the list tended more toward paler beers but they did have at least one stout and one porter on drafter; I drank the porter. The yummy popcorn/chex mix combo topped with white cheddar jalapeno seasoning is a fantastic accompaniment -- and it's only $1 with free refills! Yummo. Great service, great atmosphere. They were serving a selection of soup and dips from Circle City Soups when we were there.
(5)Jessica P.
This is probably one of the best places to find a variety of INDIANA beer on tap. Really great atmosphere to drink and chat. The food options are dependent on what's open in City Market so don't count on getting a bite to eat while you're drinking. There can be some wonderful options available but not every time. The beers are always amazing though. The post the tap list on twitter so you can hunt down that beer you've been looking for. You don't like beer? I'm very sorry for you, but there's also Indiana wine available. Don't scoff, they're good wines!
(4)Krista A.
The place itself is awesome and low-key. You can grab something downstairs to eat and bring it up to enjoy with your beer. Lots of beer on draft, lots of it local as well. The manager is exceptionally pretentious, but that aside, this is an awesome place to enjoy a good brew!
(4)Peter P.
A terrific addition to an already great, local treasure (City Market). Bartenders are always attentive and friendly. The taps rotate whenever the keg runs out. They only stock Indiana brews (and wines) which truly makes the place special. Hot food is not available from the bar (they have popcorn/chips), but at least one of the vendors downstairs is open when the bar is open. Ride your bike to City Market and bring it upstairs for a drink or two!
(4)Trena R.
I bellied up just days after it opened and - for who knows what reason - have only found myself back there a couple times since. Most recently was the SunKing/TimeForThree beer tapping pre-party. The place was packed (in a good way) with a really diverse crowd of really friendly people. Interestingly, they weren't drawn there for the tapping - these were everyday fans of 'the Tap'. $5 pints. Good energy. Nice people. Non-traditional space. Definitely worth having another round. Oh, did I notice a selection of wine sitting beside the taps? Nice addition.
(4)Tom J.
It's not a room, it's a bar in the corner of the mezzanine at the City Market. More drafty than cozy, really, but all that aside, what a great idea to have a bar devoted to the local brewpubs. It also gives a reason to visit the City Market. Warning, though, if you want to have some food with your beer, they do have a few menu items here, but the food booths downstairs don't stay open much past lunch, at least on weekdays. They sell a flight of beers for just $5 (four small pours of whatever you want), so it's a great way to have a taste of some local beers. They rotate sixteen different beers, so it's heaven for people that love beer and a pretty safe bet that just about anyone who likes beer can find something they like. As an added bonus, they served up a kind of popcorn snack mix that was made by one of the vendors downstairs and it was awesome. Kids are not allowed to sit in the bar area, but we found a spot a few feet away and the bartender took care of us. So it's not what I'd call an awesome bar experience, but with all the craft beer variety, it is definitely a nice stop for craft beer lovers.
(4)Leila R.
Nice place to sit, chat, and people watch in the City Market over craft brews. Excellent selections from local craft breweries and decent pricing on beer sample flights and pints. Service can be hit or miss depending on who is behind the bar and if it is super crowded. Definitely worth checking out!
(4)Parvonay D.
I'm not a beer person, but I seem to end up here quite frequently because all my friends love the local beer selection, and the location is convenient for everyone who works downtown. Despite not drinking any of the apparently fabulous local beer, I generally give Tomlinson Tap Room high marks because it's a fun atmosphere, but now I'm a little iffy. Maybe this is just me being neurotic, but it grosses me out to see bartenders eating behind the bar and immediately serving customers without washing their hands. Last night, I saw not one, not two, but THREE separate bartenders eating behind the bar and serving drinks at the same time. In fact, I was ignored for about 10 minutes when I first arrived because two chicks were eating breadsticks and chatting instead of paying attention to customers. Also, and more disturbingly, one of those girls had a major coughing fit during my time at the bar, and again DIDN'T WASH HER HANDS. Aghhhh! I'm hoping that this was a one-time occurance, and I'm hoping someone from management happens to read this review and reminds the staff that they probably should brush up on food service hygiene. Eat a snack if you must, but please wash your hands before serving my drink! Eeekk. I'm giving TTR the benefit of the doubt (and 3 stars) because I'm hopeful this was just a big fluke, and I came on an off-night. I'll come again, just because my friends aren't as nutty as I am about stuff like this, but I'm going to watch those bartenders like a hawk...
(3)Nate M.
I discovered Tomlinson a while back, but unfortunately have not make it as much of a point to make it down from Mass Ave on the weekends. That changed this weekend, in which I went twice. After being persuaded to check it out on Thursday night for happy hour, we went back last night for happy hour(s). Every time Ive been there they have 12-15 local brews that any beer lover can enjoy. The staff has also been consistently helpful and friendly. Also, the atmosphere is really neat because it's on the loft in the historic city market. If you're in to local Indy beer, check out Tomlinson.
(4)Jason B.
If you've ever thought to yourself, "man, i really want this fairly obscure beer, but i don't want to drive to a giant liquor store to find it, or make a road trip to the brewery", then i recommend finding Tomlinson on twitter and checking out what beers they currently have. I was there 3 times during Yelp drinks and did the tour of Indiana breweries. Their selection is excellent. If you can't find a beer there that you like, then you should look in the mirror and say "i like beer" then the mirror will reply: "you're a liar". The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Drink prices are reasonable considering it's not your typical beer selection, and it's pretty quiet there so you can converse without shouting at each other. Tip: the bathrooms are on the second floor, north side of the building, down in the glass part of the building near the barber shop.
(5)Ashley G.
Great little bar inside City Market! Awesome selection of local craft beers. I just had beer, so can't comment on their food, but the atmosphere and the selection of beers earns them 5 stars! I'm sure I'll be back soon ;)
(5)Cara S.
I love this place mostly because they serve ONLY Indiana microbrews. I get to try beers from parts of Indiana I don't often get around to, so that's wonderful. Plus, I happen to like the ambiance of their second floor balcony location in City Market. They have a cool antique bar, and the tables are made from something reclaimed (I can't remember what).
(5)Linda W.
This is a great place to grab a beer with friends any time of day. My friends and I do a social bike ride to Tomlinson every Thursday evening year round (barring severe weather). This is inside the City Market on the 2nd floor. Children are only restricted from the tap area, but mom or dad can grab a beer and move to the family friendly area!
(5)Alex S.
So I have now been told on many occasions that they do indeed have signs just outside of the bar, both standing up and a rug mat on the floor (and I've seen them with my own eyes.) That being said, I totally missed them when I was there for the first time. It was crowded and people were standing in the way. And when you get into the bar, there are no signs at all. And I still did not realize it was a bar until someone pointed it out to me. Mystery still in tact and I love it.
(5)James S.
Les Miserable space. OK, they have local beers, but the space isn't good. Stuck in a poor spot, it feels like what it is, a corner of a food court. They should have stuck it in the basement catacombs and it would at least have some ambiance.
(2)Nathan M.
Bar far one of my top 3 watering holes in the City. Laid back, quiet, and one of the best Indiana Beer selections on tap. Its one of the most unique and hippest bars to hang with your friends. Not to mention its on top of one of the best kept secrets, in the City Market. With some Indys best restaurants on the bottom level of the market and the the tap room on top, this place is a cant miss With some of the friendliest staff and killer tap list, The Tap Room is a must stop for anyone visiting town
(5)Jason O.
Nice place to get together with friends after work. Beer is hit or miss depending on what they have on tap but I can usually find something I like there. Nice open floor plan with loft view of the market!
(3)Andrew D.
Have I really not reviewed Tom Tap yet? For shame. This is really the best spot for beer in the city. It's inside the amazing city market. You can always find something new from one of the many Indiana breweries on tap. The bartenders are pretty awesome. Can't go wrong.
(5)levramosis H.
This was my second visit to Indy and my second visit to Tomlinson Tap Room. I love the selection of Indiana brews and love the environment. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. If I lived in Indy, I have no doubt this would be a regular stop.
(4)Bobby N.
Have you ever wondered what breweries there are in Indiana and what kind of beer they make? Well, you don't need to be confused about this anymore. Tom Tap as I like to call it serves only Indiana Craft Beer. I know right? The beer is all from Indiana Brewers and of various styles. This allows you to take a tour of Indiana Breweries without ever leaving the bar stool! The ambiance is fantastic with the bar in the southwest corner of the mezzanine. It is great to sit back and have a fantastic Indiana Craft Beer in this historic setting. Give it a try and you will probably be as hooked on this place as I am. Thursday night is growler night with a great discount on growler fills.
(5)Nina J.
Tomlinson Tap is a hidden gem of local craft beers. Discovered it existed after spotting a newspaper ad, so we stopped in on a very quiet Saturday afternoon City Market when many vendors are closed. Sweltering outside, comfortable in this renovated historic building. Welcoming bartender - very knowledgeable about the beers. Loved the corny Passport to Indiana Breweries. The Tap even carried a brew from a town we just moved from and couldn't get local there! We were only handed a drink menu and I was getting hungry. I know, I know, there's food downstairs... but I didn't want pizza or a croissant. Remember, most vendors were closed. Glad to learn from other reviewers that it would have been just fine to carry foodies into the tap. Great place to bring our crew next time I drag them around Indy highlights. Quiet enough to talk, hang out.
(4)Liz M.
What a fun space! A decent size bar with several tables tucked away upstairs at the City Market. Not cozy by any means, but just functional usable space. Great specials (I had a $5 flight). Multitudes of local brews. Our bartender was amazing. So friendly, uber helpful, and very excited to chat about beer. Can't wait to come back and spend more time here!
(3)Colin A.
It's places like Tomlinson Tap Room that make me long for my hometown. The quiet, somewhat secluded location (2nd floor City Market, Downtown) combined with a very laid-back vibe and a ridiculous selection of Indiana craft beers make for a great experience. Ben provides excellent recommendations, can answer most any question regarding what is on tap -- and the service is quick. On a recent visit I enjoyed an old favorite in 3 Floyd's Gumballhead and tried a sampler flight featuring People's Pilsener, 3 Floyd's Gorch Fock, and Upland's Nut Hugger Brown Ale. While I've explored plenty of bars/breweries in the Milwaukee area, I still haven't found that quiet place to sit back and enjoy a delicious craft beer and conversation. If I still lived in Indianapolis, this would be my "Cheers." Enjoy.

What everyone else already said about how great Tom Tap is, plus they're now doing dinner on Wednesday nights, courtesy of the Junonia Fish Market. Try the crab cakes with the cranberry slaw or the salmon Caesar salad for a win. I'm pretty sure the second features Sitka Salmon Share product, which is a damn fine thing. A damn fine thing. Round out your meal with any of their many tasty Hoosier-crafted beers and thank yourself for a lovely night out at one of Indy's most unique and essential venues.

A good place to grab a local beer, as TTR carries only Indiana beers, and they have a great selection of them on tap. Cool location in the second floor of the City Market (I wish there were more going on in the City Market to watch, but that's another story). Friendly bartenders. Very cool place. Not in an obvious location, so make the effort and seek this place out.

I've been told I'm too sleazy with five star reviews... well... I'm just too damn excitable... what I am not sleazy about though are my words -- and my money. My money is my voice, where I put those greenbacks is where I put my concern, and a concern I care about: the densification of Indianapolis. I want us on top of one another, converging into a place where we bump into each other more often than things go bump in the night (welll, maybe that's not possible). Another concern: local commerce. Locally owned & operated businesses keep the money in the community and locally sourced businesses are the most environmentally friendly businesses (as distribution is down). What's all this mean? That I love Tomlinson Tap Room, because it tackles all of my concerns. We spent a couple nights there last week -- specifically a very long session on Saturday where we sat at the bar for a godly amount of hours for fresh, local beer with fresh local live music, fresh local faces and good conversation. (And Bananagrams!) I've sat in world-renowned bars for beer. From Toronado in SF to McSorley's & Chumleys in Manhattan to Red Lion and Wurstkuche in LA, and many other famous watering holes, and I can say that this is the finest damn addition to the world of interesting places to drink beer. If I were a traveler and found out about this place, it'd boggle my mind -- a bar in a City Market Hall that serves only local beer? Fascinating. Note: They've updated their pricing to $5.50 / pint since my last review -- thank you!

If you're a fan of good beer, it's a great time to be living in Indiana. It seems like once a month a new craft brewery is opening up. If you don't have time to travel around the state sampling all that is offered, no worries, Tomlinson Tap Room has your back. They have 16 taps of nothing but Indiana beer. All of the heavy hitters are represented. 3 Floyds, Upland, Sun King, New Albanian. They're all here along with brews from Oaken Barrel, Peoples, Crown, Bee Creek, and others. They will also soon carry meads from New Day and all Indiana wines. Not sure what to order? Let Ben know and he'll guide you in the right direction and hook you up with a sample or two. Of course, most of the crowd coming here is probably already familiar with Indiana beers and likely has a favorite. See you there. I'll have an Alpha King.

Fantastic Beer. . . Not many places you can go to get only beers crafted in Indiana. Beer can be dependent on the person and their taste but there is usually a kind of beer for everyone. They allow tasting, which is great, and the service is awesome. It is never very crowded. My family will go there and have good beer and order pizza, they deliever it there. I would recommend this place if you like to support local places and enjoy a good brew ha ha :-) They don't serve Coors, Bud, Miller ... or any of that stuff.
(5)Kristy K.
Total gem in downtown! Love that they only serve Indiana craft brews, plus it's the only place open late in the City Market (one of Indy's under-appreciated places to go). Seating is great as the tap room is up in the mezzanine and you can spy on lots of folks. Also can't get over the genius of their zipline to ordering a crepe at 3 days in Paris downstairs. Go and get your drink on there today!

I went to the Tomlinson Taproom for the first time last night for a Yelp Drinks event - why didn't I know about this place earlier?! I'm a lover of beer and of all things local, and this combines those into a beautiful homage to Indiana - they serve local Indiana beers on tap! I'm also a huge fan of people watching (my mom always says "if they didn't want me looking in their windows, they shouldn't have left their curtains open) and with its location on a balcony overlooking the City Market, the people watching is definitely prime. The ambiance is relaxed, the bartenders friendly, and the seating ample. I will definitely be returning!
(5)Scott M.
I'm not a huge beer guy and don't often go to bars/pubs, but this place is really cool. Quaint but not cramped, rustic yet modern. I strongly suggest ordering a sampler flight of 3 beers and asking the bartender (especially if it's that bearded guy) to select which varieties to include. I had two separate flights and truly enjoyed both; a great opportunity to taste 6 different beers that I'd ordinarily otherwise never try. Honestly, I didn't even know this place existed until recently but now know that there's at least one downtown bar that suits my style. Tomlinson is definitely worth a visit, even if you're just an occasional beer-drinker like me.
(5)Richard H.
I have always thought this place was so weird perched atop the main hall at the city market, but it's fun! Terriffic selection of local beers, attentive bartenders and even a really nice-looking food menu. You walk a few feet away, and you're back in the unexiciting city market, with those drab green tables and chairs, but for a minute you forget where you are!
(4)Megan M.
Not sure why but I've always been resistant to coming here. Glad I gave it a try this past Super Bowl weekend. There is a nice selection of draft Indiana beer and I am pretty sure I saw a list of bottled beer as well . . . . I was lucky enough to get a shot at the Triton Gingerbread brown. It was so good it inspired me to come back again and again throughout the weekend (although it sadly ran out early). The servers were attentive even when the bar was packed with patrons. Good service = Happy Megan. Generally, I think the location is great. While food is not served at the tap room, if you want a bite to eat there are quite a few quality places on the lower level to choose from and you can bring it on up. I heard quite a few times that some of the tables were made out of old barn doors. Not sure if that is fact or fiction but they were pretty cool looking. For sure this will be on my list of places to revisit.
(4)Janet S.
Have to bump this down for a couple reasons: They have a long list of beers, but I am unlucky enough to almost always choose the one they are out of as my first choice, so I pick another, and if it's an especially unlucky day, they are out of that one too. Not the end of the world, but it's annoying. Might be a good idea to notate somehow that unavailable beer is unavailable. Then the bartenders could act a little less put out when I ask them to suggest something that similar to what I wanted since they are out of what I asked for. I also wish I could somehow unravel the mystery of what beers come in which glass, pint/not a pint, is this based on the style of beer, the ABV, or the bartender's mood? I guess I am just too beer stupid to frequent an establishment such as this.
(3)Valerie S.
Tomlinson Tap Room is the shining star of the City Market, and you know I'm saying something when I say that. I love the premise of these businesses in Indianapolis, founded on the principle that beer should be the focus of the gathering (I'm also thinking of Twenty Tap as I say this). Tomlinson is perched above the Market, offering a good spot to meet, hang out, relax, or take a break. You know, whatever. I very much appreciate a wide range of beers and breweries, and relatively knowledgeable bartenders. I think they are often a bit swamped handling the sheer quantity of orders and sheer mass of beer being consumed, but with patience (as at all good bars), it is worth the wait. They offer a few snacks, and luckily there are places in the Market below that are often available should the Real Need For Food strike. But, it would be nice to have more options that don't require moving from the bar. Maybe I'm being lazy in saying that, but I like to have a more rounded experience, even as I keep beer on center stage. I've been to a variety of events here, and am always meeting friendly people, both servers and patrons. It is a place where it seems like-minded individuals gather over their common interest: beer selection. It's in a part of the city that desperately needs a slightly more adult approach to drinking (not that we don't all need our Cadillac Ranch or Kilroy's experiences from time to time), and it's always worth stopping by. Cheers.
(5)Erin Q.
I had never been to City Market before and was in love the moment I walked in. I decided to check Tomlinson's out as it was a Yelp event and it was easy enough to find when you looked up to the second floor and saw all the people. The beer was cold and good. The servers were helpful and answered any questions even though they were crazy busy. Everyone there was having a great time. This is a must see for anyone that lives here-a great way to try out some of Indiana's locally made beer! Only negative is they do not accept American Express so if you want to take clients and that is your work credit card either bring cash or use V/MC.
(4)Eric S.
This place has odd hours because it is on the second floor of the City Market. They serve Indiana brewed beers and they have a really nice old antique bar. Really there is nothing not to like. They do not serve food there however and it is nice to be able to get a bite of food. I give them 4.5 stars.
(4)Geoff C.
Awesome place to hang out and sample local craft beer.
(5)Aditya S.
i love this place in downtown indy. they have rotating taps of indiana craft brews. the prices are very nominal and the people behind the bar are willing to talk to you about general stuff as if you are in a socializing group. its got a great location and enough seating even on busy days. They post their rotating tap list on facebook daily and even offer growler refills on most of them. if you are a true beer enthusiast and you want o keep trying new stuff without hunting for places, this is your go-to place. The specials and the variety offered will surely make you a regular and one of your favorite places to get a "cold one".
(5)Stacy K.
Great selection, knowledgeable staff, good prices (esp. on Monday and Tuesday, when all draft brews are $3.50 - as of 7/22/2013). Easily accessible on foot from the JW Marriott--about a 10 minute walk.
(5)MJ W.
Going to Tominson is like going to school for a higher education in craft beer. Quick tip! They deliver to Jack's Barbershop! You can call while you are getting your haircut and they will bring you a fresh beer! How great is that?
(5)Scotty Z.
As museums honor our greatest artists -- Tomlinson Tap Room serves as a living monument to the ever-growing world of fine Indiana-born craft beer. From South Bend to New Albany with no need for Rt. 37 -- TTR offers a GREAT selection of craft microbrews from all around the state. Stop into the 2nd floor of City Market and bring food in from anywhere -- I'd recommend one of the many vendors from the 1st floor of City Market. And, at the bar or many surrounding tables, seating is usually pretty easy to get. Unpretentous, staff is really friendly and, from what I saw, really knew their beer! Expect to pay ~$5-7 /pint (they have samplers, too). Well worth the time, trip, money, etc.
(5)Ethan D.
16 taps with all Indiana craft brews? Knowledgeable and friendly staff? Super diverse tap list? Yep. Tomlinson Tap Room has it all. My favorite thing about the TTR is the atmosphere. It is generally very relaxed, quiet and enjoyable. I love that they keep a very diverse tap list with some of the more obscure/eccentric Indiana craft brews. The staff always has recommendations for what you should try and are usually spot on. If you're looking for a good beer downtown, the tap room is a great place.
(5)Katie B.
What's not to love? Numerous Indiana craft beers on tap, a laid back crowd, and historic location! I think it's just a glimpse of what City Market can one day become. A great place to bring visitors and a great place to try new beers (samplers!). Yes, I love it!
(5)Zae S.
The first place we went after getting married at the Justice of the Peace was Tomlinson and yes, they know us by name. We love it that much.
(5)Scott H.
Great addition to City Market. It's too expensive, but they have a good local beer selection and the bartender is always nice. Cool vibe to it.
(3)Deborah B.
Perhaps this is as much a review of City Market building as Tomlinson Tap Room. There is something so inherently charming about this place. The fact that the building that houses Tomlinson Tap room has been around since the late 1800s, the fact that you can walk in on a Friday after work and hear the echoes of beer-fueled witty banter and comraderie from the farthest corner of this massive building. You can find some suprisingly good beer from super-new, and not so new Indiana breweries. From my hometown of Munster and 3 Floyds, to Crown Point, to some great offerings from both Lafayette and Bloomngton Brewing Company. Tomlinsons is a such a great, laid-back place have a beer or two. On a side note, some of the food vendors at City Market offer food to those drinking at Tomlinsons. Sadly, the food from Pappa Roux was just so-so, and disapointingly I was unable to get any gumbo or jambalaya. I had a Po-Boy, and for anyone that has been to NOLA as much as I have sorry, but thePo-Boy was pretty bad. Not sure if it was an off night, but it just wasn't good. Some people that live in Indy know what a real Po-Boy is, and it is sad that what they try to pass for one. I will not hold that against Tomlinsons, as they are completely separate vendors. I would recommend going to Tomlinsons for a few drinks, and then heading off for dinner elsewhere.
(5)Lorand M.
Excellent beer selection that is changing and evolving. Kindasorta charming atmosphere.....tres cool to be in the City Market though. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable beertenders....its amazing how many places that serve...and promote....craft beers....don't know a darn thing about 'em ! ....heck....make something up ! I won't know the difference. Patrons have always been a cool mix of tourists/travellers and locals...and generally places like this tend to attract interesting and convivial people.
(5)Libbie V.
Wow, there are already several well-written positive reviews on Yelp for Tomlinson Tap Room. But, I need to voice my feelings for this establishment. I am 100% smitten with TTR. I love that they are located in downtown Indy and I really love that they are located on the second floor of the ultracool City Market Building. The beertenders are friendly to converse with and smart & knowledgeable in their profession. The everchanging list of Indiana craft draft beer that is offered is truly amazing. This place is one-of-a-kind. Not to mention being able to purchase growler fills on almost every beer on tap. And, the last great selling point in my opinion is that when the public voiced a concern for later operating hours and cheaper seasonal beer pints Tomlinson Tap Room listened and reacted to the customer's advantage! I repeat, I am smitten and just a little bit in love with TTR!
(5)Brad C.
This place is a real gem. The location is great, tucked upstairs overlooking the city market. The staff is super friendly. The food is great.... you can byo into the bar from all the great food stands in the market. 16 Indiana beers on tap. Bring your growler. I wish we had a cool place like this in our area. Don't tell anyone, but I asked to buy a Tshirt, and they were out of my size, so instead, she sent me home with a complimentary TTR growler (full, of course.)

Awesome, awesome idea. I was in town visitng friends and was brought here. It had opened well after I moved away fortunately and unfortunately. Fortunately because I would have spent way too much money here trying delicious, Indiana-brewed beers. Unfortunately because I I enjoyed myself there so much that I wish I would have had the chance to spend too much money here. The beer, as noted, is all Indiana-brewed. They have a good selection of styles and a number of breweries are represented. Many of them I had never even heard of. The price is right, too. the space is odd: we came there at night after City Market was closed and it was almost spooky hanging out in there after hours. Plenty of space to belly up to the bar or sit at one of the other tables, though. My only complaint is that they need a sign badly. I had never been there before and if I wasn't accompanied by someone who had been, I would have had no idea where to go. You have a great thing going, so tell people about it!
(5)William C.
Tomlinson Tap Room is maybe a bit pricey here in our blue-collar Midwest ($5/drink: pint or 12oz depending on ABV/mood of baristas), but it's the best survey of on-tap Indiana craft beer available. Say again: It's in the City Market, and it's the best survey of on-tap Indiana craft beer available. That = win.
(5)Jordan W.
This is simply the best place to drink craft beer in Indianapolis. Great atmosphere, awesome staff, food available downstairs, fairly convenient location downtown... but you know the best part? The beer list. Unbelievable beers on tap from a myriad of Indiana breweries, from Three Floyd's to Sun King to People's to Fountain Square. Simply the best.
(5)Brandy F.
I love this place so much that I feel I am at a loss of words! The beer is amazing, the service superb, and the ambiance perfect. The City Market is experiencing a bit of a rebirth, and I believe Tomlinson Tap Room has very much contributed to making City Market what is has the potential to be. TTR serves 16 taps (I think, well somewhere around that number) of only Indiana craft beer. They don't serve food, but that is one of the things I like. If you are hungry, they welcome you to check out one of the local establishments, serving delicious food, and enjoy it at the bar. If you don't want to move too far, you can always use the zip line to order a delicious crepe from 3 Days in Paris. A patron once mentioned putting in TVs. I say, "please, NO!" The ambiance lends itself to enjoying good conversation with a friend or stranger, and I love that. If they do put in a TV, I'll just put my blinders on and still love this place. Come to think of it, maybe they put those TVs in after all and I didn't even notice. Now that speaks volumes!!
(5)Phil Y.
Great place to hang and have a beer, especially if you are looking for great beer brewed in Indiana as that's all they serve (and I think wine, but yuck why drink wine when you can drink great Hoosier beer?!)
(4)shanna r.
Great idea and kudos to whoever thought of it! I'm not a beer drinker so I was a bit nervous to try out the new tap room. They did have a small wine selection which made me very happy! You miss the hussle and bussle and Meridian St but still have a cool place to hang out. Staff was very helpful and took time to explain all the different tap options. Try it out, it's something different...
(4)Brenda B.
Good beer, good service, high price, convenient after work they need longer hours Hopefully these reviews will help.
(3)DeAnna P.
Always a good experience. Bartenders are knowledgeable and will usually let you try a beer before you get the entire pint. Love that they serve local beer. Now that they are bringing up food from Papa Roux upon request, how can this NOT be your favorite bar??
(5)Kjirsten K.
The Tomlinson Tap Room is the perfect step towards making the City Market a place that people actually want to visit. A brewpub located on the second floor in the mezzanine of the City Market; the Tap Room offers good, local beers, in a laid back, spacious, environment. They have several beers on tap, lots of bar seating, and the Tap Room pulls off feeling small and intimate, while in a huge open space. The Tap Room doesn't serve food, but they welcome their guests to bring in their own food. The hours are from noon-8pm, making it the perfect spot for an after work Hoptimus. The only downfall are the prices; $5.50 for a pint and $7.50 for a "seasonal" pint. (Hoptimus is considered a "seasonal") On Thursdays they offer a discount on Growlers (normally $12). I hope they plan to have pint specials through the week, because at $7.50 per pint I can't see myself hanging out there for more than one beer.
(5)Carl B.
The best beer bar in Indianapolis. Craft beer is on a rise in Indiana, and Tomlinson Tap Room is taking full advantage. On the second floor of the ever growing City Market lies the tap room with 16 rotating taps of nothing but Indiana beer. There is a little for everyone at all times. From a light cream ale or wheat to a stout or porter. Growlers can be had at all times but I recommend bringing the growler on Thursdays, when they have specials on growler fills. The bartenders are always friendly and helpful, and will let you have a small sample before you commit to a pint. You can also get a flight of 3 4oz pours if you're still in a sampling mood. Ask for a passport and try to sample all the Indiana breweries for a chance at the wall of fame. Check out the Tap Room, I try to visit at least once per week.
(5)Cindy L.
If you like local beers, this is the place for you! With constantly rotating taps dedicated solely to Indiana beers, a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a very cool location on the second floor balcony of the City Market, this place nearly has it all. The only reason it does not get five stars from me is that food is hard to come by. They do have locally-made pretzels and potato chips that are delicious. They also have an agreement with 3 Days in Paris on the first floor of the Market, who stays open late and delivers crepes upstairs. But if you're looking for a meal other than a crepe, you have to carry in. Thursdays and Fridays are busiest, while Wednesdays and Saturdays are fairly quiet. This has become a favorite hang out of mine. Come check it out!
(4)Nicolette M.
There's something about this place, when you're with a good group of friends. It's like its your own secret: a place with amazing Indiana brews, great bartenders, and historic atmosphere. I've never had a bad experience here, from its opening night in 2010 to any of my most recent visits. The bartenders are willing to let you sample before you buy and, if you like variety, you can buy a sampler. The City Market is amazing as well and so you have some decent food options nearby. This place tops my list of favorite happy hour locations.
(4)Roger H.
Best kept secret in Indy
(5)J H.
This is a great new place at the City Market on the second floor of the main building. There's great local beers (16 taps) and you can bring in food from any of the merchants located below! The bar itself is from an old Hooks Drugstore and the tall tables are from re-purposed barn doors! They are only open Weds through Sat and are a great stop for a pre-dinner pint when you're downtown. The prices are $5 for three samplers, $5.50 a pint and $7.50 a seasonal pint (usually the higher gravity/higher ABV brews). Growlers are also available.
(4)Matt P.
This place is a great find. My party and I arrived at 8 so City Market was closed so we skipped dinner and went straight to drinking. In hindsight I'd do it again, these craft beers are F'N delicious. The bartender there was the greatest guy, Ben. I came from New Jersey and he bought me a pint because he loves out of towners, which is such a welcoming feeling. I'd come back here, with friends or alone to shoot the breeze with the bartender. My point is, if you're here and want a great beer come here, if you want a beer that taste like piss, go somewhere else.
(5)Bryon P.
I was a huge fan of this place as soon as I heard about it. Being located in the City Market is fantastic. I went and ordered my food from another vendor and came upstairs to select my beer of choice. I love that they have brews from lots of local craft breweries, though the woman who waited on me wasn't able to provide me with much info or insite as for what to pick. They were also having a major issue with their taps when I visited so their beer list was down to 4. Nonetheless my Moustache Ride brew was great tasting and complimented my sandwich nicely.
(5)Jamison H.
Great place if you like craft beer and conversation. It is never terribly crowded and since it is located where it is there is always a table to get away to. The bartenders are super nice and quite knowledgeable about the 16 taps of Indiana beer that they are serving you. The only wild card is the food options. A few nights a week you can zip line an order down to 3 Days in Paris and have a tasty crepe walked up to you...which is awesome. There is also a small selection of soft pretzel bites and fantastic potato chips that are made 50 yards away on the lower level. They just have 2 tvs that they just installed, which I was worried about, but the sound is off and they are not in your face. However, if there is a sporting event that is a big deal they will usually throw it on for you. The City Market is a great asset to Indianapolis and I am glad to see things like this adding to the awesomeness. Also, you are welcome, and encouraged to bring your bike inside and upstairs while you enjoy your pints. oh, and $10 growler fills of most everything on Thursdays.
(5)Jeffrey B.
Some coworkers and I gather here after work occasionally. I enjoy the regular rotation of Indiana brews. I try some thing new every time. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. And in our case, can take a joke. Overall a good place to hang and have a beer or 4.
(4)Mary V.
Fabulous raz/wheat beer!! Great representation of IN breweries!! Best kept secret--need more advertising!!!
(5)T. M. G.
Have you ever been sitting at home thinking, "You know what, Trevmane? You deserve a growler of 3 Floyds brew." Then you realize, "3 Floyds is in Munster. Why the f*ck would I drive to Munster to get beer?" Well, I have, but don't worry Tomlinson has your ass covered. This place is incredible. Sixteen rotating taps- all quality Indiana micros- and they offer growler fills on almost everything (If the keg is smaller than a half-barrel odds are they won't do a growler fill). The bar is beautiful , and is in a great location (the second floor of the City Market). The atmosphere is very relaxed. This is the perfect place for a beer geek after a long day at work. Ben the beertender is very cool and will be happy to rap beer with you. If you can't decide which of the sixteen brews you want a pint of order a taster- three small glasses of anything you want, but if you know you are going and need a little time to decide which beers you want to order, check their facebook or twitter. They post the updated tap listing daily. They understand. Choosing what beer to drink is a very important decision.
(5)Mandy K.
What a great asset to City Market! Located on the upper level of the Market overlooking the lower level vendors, it's a great place to sit with friends and sip a local beer after work. The hours of operation are most conducive to an after-work drink and not a late-night bar crawl, but that's fine by me. Tomlinson is "tapping" into a target market with these hours and doing well at it. And the staff is friendly and patient, allowing you to try before you buy.
(4)Eric N.
TTR gets my GENIUS award. Setup a bar in the City Market, and feature GREAT Indiana Beers. Simple. Brilliant. Nobel Prize worthy. I hope the Super Bowl KILLS for these guys!!
(5)Lisa S.
We went to Tomlinson Tap Room last night and really enjoyed sampling all kinds of local and regional beers we wouldn't find elsewhere. No, they don't serve food, but you can bring food in with you or order it in from elsewhere--we had Bazbeaux's deliver a cheese pizza and some cheesy bread right to our table. Our bartender was friendly and helpful, and the live music last night was great, too. Oh, and the new parking meters downtown made it much easier to find close parking, since you can get a two-hour spot now. Plus, metered spaces are free after 9:00pm.
(5)CN D.
I am definitely a fan! Reviving the city market is such a fantastic idea and the Tomlinson Tap Room certainly adds to the appeal. There is plenty of room around the bar to enjoy the company of fellow patrons. Bad news for those of us who do not live or work near the market, they close early (market is not an all evening/night event). They did provide a variety of local beers and are helpful and informative when it comes to the selection. I am hoping their wine selection (only a few bottles that went fast) grows as the business develops. Although, I am not oppose to tasting beers and we did get a glass of white to go along with our testers. In summation, go here and try it for yourself!
(4)Katie G.
Lots of great beers on tap, Papa Roux just a "zip-line" away, and on my way home from work.
(5)Robert A.
One of my favorite places in Indy to grab a beer. Probably the widest variety of Hoosier microbrews anywhere. They don't serve food, but because they're located on the top floor of City Market, you can snag nibbles or meals from any of the food vendors downstairs.
(5)Jimmy W.
What a neat idea! Tomlinson Tap Room is a little bar tucked into the corner of the upstairs at the City Market. It's not hard to find, and it did seem a little bit out of place my first time attending - but you really can't beat it! The bartenders are always helpful and great to talk to, even letting you taste a few beers before you make what always seems like a difficult decision between Indiana beers (who would have seen this coming a few years ago?) This place feels laid back, social, and is a great place to catch up with friends, grab a beer, and just hang out. As a plus, there's no smoking! Woohoo!
(5)Russell B.
Great out of the way find. Over 10 beers on tap, few that I have heard of before. Very helpful and friendly in trying to find a beer. No food served here just chips, but we did see several people order jimmy johns or other delivery.
(5)Jonathan M.
I love this place. It is my favorite spot to grab a brew after a long day. They serve only Indiana beers, as they are associated with the Indiana Brewers Guild. This is the spot where you can get that Indiana beer that you loved at a brewery you visited but is not available by distribution in Indianapolis. It is in the upstairs of the Indianapolis City Market. I really like the vibe I get when I am there. The staff is great and the beer is always a rotation of local Indiana stuff. Most night you can get a crepe sent up from 3 Days in Paris. I wish more food vendors in the market catered to the hours that the Tom runs though. It would be nice to have a few more options. 3 Days in Paris is only open till 8 when they do stay open. You are always going to run into some people there that are very knowledgeable about the local food and beer scene. Get down there some night on your way home from work. You won't regret it.
(5)Aaron H.
I love this place. Is it really perfect; no. But it still gets 5 stars in my heart. All Indiana beers, historic setting and good people. They get a good amount of hard-to-find releases, and only occasionally are the offerings less than at least 'good'. And now you can get great Po Boys from Papa Roux downstairs.
(5)Virginia L.
Fantastic little bar serving excellent Indiana beers. It feels a little shady entering the market after hours, but you'll be glad you did.
(5)Sean C.
Simple and perfect. 16 taps, mostly local, but occasionally regional, always great beers. Staff are attentive, friendly, and know their beer. Ambiance is a little different, since there's the potential for foot traffic through the bar area, but it might work out well for them, since they can get close view of the awesome tap list. Also, most nights you can get food from Papa Roux via a runner, so you don't even have to trot downstairs on your own. I just wish more of the City Market vendors would get the hint and stay open later. The only downside of this place, for me, is that it's not open late, so it's not a good late night refuge from the club scene, and, as a result, it's not as much of a place for people watching as some of my other favorite locations. Still, for a beer haven, this is as good as it gets.

I had a crash course intro to the Tap Room during craft beer week. I really like the set up and the "mission"; local craft beer. At least that is what I interpret as the mission. I love the location, downtown, second floor in the City Market. Cool to be able to go to the Market after 3pm. and something is open. Ben is a super friendly bartender, knowledgeable and always a big smile. The other customers are up for a chat and seem pretty laid back whether in a suit and loosened tie or shorts and sandals. They have 16 taps that are constantly rotating so every week, or sometimes daily, there is always something local and different to try. Thursday and Friday, 3 Days in Paris stays open until 9 serving up crepes. Cool place and great concept.

First time to City Market and first time to Tomlinson Tap Room. What a hidden gem. Great selection of local, craft beers - I had an IPA flight - and very friendly, knowledgeable bartender. Totally unassuming and quaint. A perfect spot for an after-work or pre-dinner beverage.

I really enjoyed the Tomlinson Tap Room! Beer selections from all around the state are only found here, and the Passport thing (you can try a beer from each Indiana brewery) is a lot of fun. The food I had from the City Market on the first floor (a creperie on the first floor) was excellent and complemented the Indiana beers well!!

Ben the evening bartender is awesome! Very knowledgeable, fun, entertaining. The razz wheat beer is awesome!! Thanks for making the fact we were stranded by a thunderstorm an adventure rather than an inconvenience. Great find!!

I was down in Indianapolis for only the second time ever, having scored a pair of cheap B1G Championship Game tickets and making the drive down from Madison Saturday morning. My friend and I arrived downtown around 4:00 and we were looking for a place with some decent beer to be had. My previous experience in Indianapolis was about ten years ago and all I recall was a lack of beer options in the bars we visited, a common occurrence at the time. Thanks to the excellent Yelp reviews we made our way over to Market Street and after a bit of confusion looking for a sign we figured it out and bellied up to the bar. Had it not been for a timely Running into the Kicker penalty the Tomlinson Tap Room might have just been the highlight of the trip! I'm somewhat familiar with the various Indiana breweries due to the Great Taste of the Midwest, where I've sampled a few from the likes of New Albanian and Figure Eight, but I got a real education here. It was great to see a whole stable of different Indiana beers on tap here and it was a little hard to choose between them. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The setting and vibe of the place was wonderful and the bartender couldn't have been cooler. I only hope I can make my way back sooner rather than later.

I was a little skeptical about the Tomlinson Tap Room. A bar on the 2nd floor of the City Market just didn't seem like a good idea. But it has totally surprised me. Since it is partly owned by the Brewers Guild of IN, they go out of there way to have on tap beers from both Indianapolis and Indiana brewers. The bartenders are super nice and very helpful with tips about what beer to order. And of course they'll let you try a taste so you can be sure that you are getting something you like. They offer minimal food items (pretzels, which are really tasty). But as more and more City Market stay open for the evening hours, food will definitely not be lacking. The Tap Room also has special events, such as an upcoming IPA tapping. I hope that the presence of the Tap Room is just what the City Market needs to make it into a destination for both lunch and dinner. You know what would help? If you go!

I wish (sometimes) I still worked out of my downtown office in the city county building because I used to spend a lot more time in the city market. The market used to be packed with vendors and people. I've seen this drastically decrease in recent years. Lately, though, a few new vendors have popped in, with Tomlinson Tap Room being the best and brightest! An all local (or nearly local) bar is just a great idea made even better by being in the city market. I dig the location. The prices are steep, but I've been assured that this is being worked on or maybe has been fixed by now. Its probably good the prices are a bit higher as to possibly deter that the poor college kid crowd. Otherwise they may be tempted to slam a few too many 9% ABV brews and jump over the second floor railing on a dare. The restroom situation is a bit lacking as the only facilities are the city market public restrooms, which if you have ever used you know what I am talking about. I've been told this situation will be rectified soon as well. I've had some good pints and tastings here. The taps apparently rotate frequently which is nice. They don't serve food, but one can order items from various vendors from the market down below.
