Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Best Chinese/Asian restaurant in town!!! When I think of Chinese food I think of lomein- and of course they have the BEST lomein. But my most favorite addition to this restaurant is the people that work here. Owners, Francis and Lori are amazing people and love what they do- you can taste it in the food. Everything on the menu is great though. Go try this place if you haven't already.

Love this place...great food reasonable priced. The food is not the "Americanized" Chinese food: Mark Pi's etc. But its also not PF Changs, right in between in terms of style and much better than both!

Tiger Lilly is one of our go to lunch options at my office. Solid Chinese food with a lot of food for the money. At lunch you get a small egg roll, crab rangoon, and your main dish. They are usually pretty quick as well if you are on a time crunch.

A friend asked me to grab dinner the other day at Tiger Lily, and I was a little apprehensive. i had heard the place had gone downhill, but he assured me that the owners were back in town and took the place back over, and that it had been returned to it's original glory. He was right.. it was delicious! We arrived on a Saturday evening when most places would be packed. Not here.. there were a few other tables of people, but we got right in without any waiting. I ordered the Hot and Sour soup as a starter and the Almond Chicken for my entree. The soup came out right away, and I commented that it didn't taste all that hot.. or sour. As I was finishing up the bowl, I realized I was sweating.. so it's one of those that sneaks up on you. My entree was all white meat chicken in a delicate sauce with generous amounts of almonds scattered throughout. There was a nice crunch to the almonds that went great with the rest of the ingredients in the dish. A must have for chicken and almond lovers. I left feeling full but not stuffed.. which is always a good feeling! Give this place a try and you won't be unhappy..

This was my first time eating here and I have to say I was disappointed. For a restaurant that is labeled as Korean and Asian Fusion I guess maybe I had my expectations set too high. I ordered the Calamari as an appetizer. I honestly love calamari and will order it whenever I can. This calamari was the worst I've ever had. It was very crispy, but completely lacked any flavor at all. Not even that good deep-fried taste that some foods get when you deep fry them. Very little pieces of calamari too. The sauce that was served with it was good, but didn't really help the overall flavor since the calamari itself was tasteless. For an entree, I ordered Stir-fried pork with Kimchi. Kimchi is another food that I absolutely love and I always joke with friends saying that you can tell a good Korean restaurant from a bad one by their kimchi. Well this dish was less-than impressive. The kimchi was too sour and didn't have much flavor. Now I know kimchi is fermented cabbage, so it usually does taste a bit sour, but sour was the only thing that I could taste. It didn't seem like there was enough spices fermented with it or something. The pork that was stir-fried with it was okay, but the sourness from the kimchi kind of ruined it. This dish is also labeled as "spicy" but wasn't spicy at all. I also tried the pork bulgogi that my friend ordered. Now usually bulgogi (in my experience) is served with lettuce wraps that you wrap the meat in, but since this place was not completely Korean I ignored that difference. The pork bulgogi was pretty good, not a whole lot of flavor which I was expecting, but it was really just okay. Not something I would come back for. I also tried their sweet and sour soup, which wasn't good at all. It just tasted like a thick chicken broth with way too much pepper. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience here. Service was pretty good, but I doubt that I will ever come here again.

As of February 2014, the original owners, Francis and Lori Wong were no longer in control of Tiger Lily Restaurant. I, Corey Wong, their son want to take the time to apologize for their absence and lack of announcement of their departure. This may be the reason why you have noticed the difference of quality, or the inconsistency of taste/flavors you have experienced during your visits to this family run venue. Once again, I'd like to take the time to apologize for these incidents. However, as of June 1st, 2015, my parents have come back from their journey only to discover that their true passion is sharing the delicacies of traditional Asian culture and cuisine with those in this companionable community. Thus, Tiger Lily Restaurant will be undergoing some renovations during the month of June to better revamp the once beloved atmosphere, and ultimately improve the menu. Starting as of JULY 1st, Tiger Lily Restaurant will be open for regular business and looking forward to seeing new and old families/friends. Hours will be as followed: Monday-Thursday: 11:00 AM- 9:00 PM Friday: 11:00 AM- 9:30 PM Saturday: 4:30 PM- 9:30 PM Sunday: 4:30 PM-9:00 Once again, my family and I apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you soon. Thank you for supporting us!

I had Tiger Lily on my list of places to try for a long time. When Husband suggested giving it a shot, I jumped at the chance. The reviews looked great and the menu was right up our alley. What could go wrong? I'm sad to say we just really didn't like the food. The Lily's Calamari was described as crispy. It was anything but. Husband is borderline obsessive about calamari, so it's pretty much ordered wherever we go. This was the worst calamari we've ever encountered both inside and outside the US. Husband described it as dirty feet and gagged at first bite. The limp, colorless, strips were visually off-putting enough that I couldn't bring myself to try them. We also ordered the crab rangoons. These were at least edible-ish. The wonton was more chewy, less crispy. But, again, at least it wasn't immediately rejected by all senses as the calamari was. As sad as we were about the calamari, we tried to trudge forward. Husband ordered the Twice Cooked Pork and I tried the General Wong's Chicken. While I definitely made the better order, I didn't get much flavor other than sweet. The Twice Cooked Pork was literally absent of all flavor. None. It oddly looked like it should have flavor. It was deceptively appealing on the visual end. But, seriously, my taste buds could detect nothing. While I was hoping Tiger Lily would be one of those addicting, hidden gems that you struggle with telling people about because you want to keep it your little secret, it was not to be. I really hate to admit it, but it may have been the worst food experience I've ever had.

I would give five stars, but they got rid of my favorite dish, the seafood pancake. Aside from that, this is an excellent restaurant.

This place is really good. The food was fresh and taste. Not the greasy Chinese food. We will be back! UPDATE: We have been back here over and over again. We moved and drive from Fishers to eat here at least twice a month. The eggrolls are a must try. They have updated their table settings. We love the House Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Hot & Sour Soup, and Triple Kung Pao and Kimchi or the Kimchi soup. Dinner time is busier than an late lunch.

Food = 4 Price = 4 Experience = 4 Nicely different... I like the daily lunch specials... pecan shrimp was very good.
(4)Cora A.
I'd say a bit pricey, but you get really great food compared to the traditional take-out Asian. Service not too friendly but food is worth it. Would recommend.

Very small restaurant but great Chinese! We get take out often and it's always plentiful And tastes great!

We've been to TL several times since moving to the area a few months ago. I'm a huge fan of their chicken chow mein (very tender chicken, good seasoning, and thin, crispy noodles - yum!), but that wasn't on the weekday lunch menu, so I decided to explore other options. We tried a couple of the lunch combinations: chicken lo mein and the chicken cashew, both served with a mini spring roll and a crab rangoon. I opted to upgrade my rice to brown rice ($1 additional). I also added a hot and sour soup. The chicken cashew was lighter on the sauce - much preferred over the heavy-handed application at some restaurants - and wasn't greasy. (Remember that Saturday morning cartoon about not drowning your food?) The lo mein noodles were thinner and similar in size to spaghetti noodles. Both dishes were very good. The soup had some heat, but not much sour. We didn't receive any sort of crispy noodles for the soup. I am not sure if that it typical - every other Chinese restaurant I've tried provides them with the soup - but I didn't ask. Service has been typically good on our visits. On our last visit, it was a little slow (which was strange because it was less busy, yet had 2 servers).
(4)Alyssa B.
The food was decent, Not particularly authentic (aside from the kimchi) however it's still pretty good food. The service was horrible. Our waitress didn't refill any of our drinks, didn't check on us, and didn't bother asking if we wanted our check before bringing.... Desert or wine would have been cool but....it was time to go I guess?
(2)Angie M.
Delicious. Daily lunch specials (no buffet). The service was good and I will definitely return!
(4)Ann L.
I went here for lunch with a colleague; I hadn't been here since the place changed owners and its name. The new decor is really quite nice; was a nice relaxing atmosphere for a Friday lunch. The lunch menu had quite a few yummy sounding selections and all lunch entrees come with a spring roll and crab rangoon. I started with a cup of hot and sour soup which was OK, but not particularly memorable. It did not pass my "good hot and sour soup should make your nose run" test. The meal recovered with the spring roll and crab rangoon were both crispy and good. For my entree I had the Tiger Lily Beef which was great! It featured very tender and flavorful beef and fresh broccoli in a slightly sweet sauce. I liked that they had brown rice as an alternative to white to accompany the entrees. The portions were perfect for lunch; I was satisfied, but not stuffed and was not carting leftovers back to the office. The service was very good; we had no trouble getting our food, eating without rushing, and paying the check within an hour total. I definitely am planning to come back to try some other menu items!

Tried on a whim...and found the best Chinese meal around!!! Orange peel chicken and General tso were great..portions were huge and it was fresh and real chicken!!

This was a really good Chinese food experience for Indy. The atmosphere was very nice for a strip mall location. The service was good and quick. I went over the lunch hour and they were very busy, yet the service was speedy. I ordered a long island drink special which came in a very cool little tiki mug. The drink was very strong as well. I also ordered the egg rolls for an appetizer and the garlic chicken for the entree. Both were very good, maybe a little on the salty side, but good nevertheless. The quality was very similar to PF Changs, but much cheaper and local which is always a plus. Overall, the experience was good and I would return. Definitely some of the better Chinese in Indy.
(4)Leslie H.
It's a failed attempt to make Asian fusion cuisine. We ordered one of their specialty which was the pork bulgogi and it wasn't exactly how a bulgogi should be. We also ordered their orange peel chicken and it was disappointing. The only reason why I'm giving it a two star is for their service.
(2)Michelle Q.
This restaurant has so many fantastic dishes it seems funny to note the egg rolls are heaven. Spicy mustard is made in house. The best egg rolls I've ever tasted. Love every dish here! Forgo the boring corporate chains and take a chance. You won't be disappointed.
(4)Aaron K.
First visit to Tiger Lilly. Good Chinese food, lighter (healthier?) sauces than most places I've been, and MUCH better quality food than the other few Chinese options in the 86th & Ditch area. Very nice and personable servers as well! I've found my new neighborhood Chinese place!
(4)Katrina M.
Nice clean decor and friendly staff. The kimchi soup was very good. I had the black bean chicken which was very average. Not bad just not fantastic. I also ordered hot tea and was disappointed to get a some unremarkable dark tea which I'm pretty sure was lipton's. A green or oolong would have been appreciated.
(3)Richard H.
I suppose it's fairly typical Chinese-American fare, but it's a lovely small space, the service is friendly and the dishes attractively presented. A varied menu that doesn't overwhelm, as many Chinese places do, and the selection is fairly inventive and fascinating. The sauces are especially delicious.
(5)Matt R.
I am not getting the high reviews for this place so far. Let's start with the good. The staff was very friendly, and the decor is comfortable. It's new and looks good. But this is a restaurant with below average Chinese-American food making a very poor attempt at being trendy and upscale. The menu calls it "Asian fusion." Nope, just below average Chinese-American food... you get the idea. Prices are on the high side, reflecting the restaurants attempt to be a cut above your average Chinese joint. Nothing we got was exceptional, and some of it was downright poor: Spring rolls. Quite small, and the contents were a bit of a mush (i.e., no nice bean thread texture, etc.). These were edible, however, and even verged on a bit tasty. Seafood ramen. The noodles were the crinkled type that come right out of the package; i.e., pretty much like instant ramen. The portion of seafood was not particularly generous, but it was not horrible either. Broth was OK. This was $12.00. The shrimp in this dish and my shrimp dish were tough--which was a major disappointment, since even crappy Chinese restaurants tend to have tasty shrimp for some reason (even if the dish they are in is a loser). Princess Shrimp. FAIL! The tough shrimp were "lightly breaded" (per the menu--and the server also said it was good and described them as "lightly breaded"--for shame!) in a tempura-style batter that formed a tough, unpleasant coating. Frankly, this dish was just barely on the side of edible. It had a lot of soy sauce in it too for an overly salty effect. Tiger Lily Beef. This was stir-fried beef with some steamed broccoli. Edible but nothing special. The sauce on the beef tasted a bit too much of black pepper. Two stars instead of one for the nice people and the basically edible but unexceptional food. But really more like 1.5 stars compared to some other two-star places I've been to lately. I won't be going back. I do hope they get it together, though, as the people really seem nice there.

We had been regular patrons of Hunan, the restaurant that occupied the space now used by Tiger Lily. We liked the old couple that ran Hunan, but the owner/chef at Tiger Lily has turned it into a good experience. The menu features interesting versions of classic Asian food, with care taken in selecting ingredients and in preparation. The chef, Francis, makes the rounds of tables every night and keeps offerings interesting. Our only complaint, after several visits, is that the wait staff tends to be young, new and uninformed about the food. Seems to be a lot of turnover. A problem if you have questions about a menu item.

This restaurant is one of my favorites. I love their Princess Shrimp. The service is always good the chief usually comes out and talks with his customers. It is a friendly locally owned neighborhood restaurant with excellent food !
(5)Richard W.
We got some general Tso chicken and that is where the meal went wrong. Our chicken had almost no sauce on it. It was plain chicken pieces with about a tablespoon of sauce. Even the chicken was wrong, it was more the type you get in sweet and sour chicken. Secondly the crab Rangoon was soggy and flavorless, and that bummed me out as crab Rangoon is my favorite. To their credit the Pork LoMein was really good. But not enough to compensate for everything else being mediocre.

This is four stars for Indy. So what that means is if your from Indy, then this is one of the better places and you're kids will eat it. If you're from LA or NYC, for instance, then it's 3 stars which means good enough for the expense account but not a destination. If you're from Taiwan, for example, it's 2 stars, and you'll go with your American friends and probably never by your own choice unless you suck at cooking. Now for the review. I've been there twice now. The owner is incredibly friendly, hardworking and he knows good food. I found the Mongolian combination, a special that day, to be quite good. The beef was very tender and flash stir fried, which was good. Also, ordered the wide noodles with beef and this was also tasty. Hunan chicken/Kung pao was above average. My wife and mother in law really enjoyed the place. Bottom line is that I'll return to tiger lily as the food is good for Indy and family likes it. Plus, the owner is from hong kong and should be supported and encouraged. The service is good. But not entirely authentic tasting. All the sauces are a bit to sweet and not enough unique, higher quality seafood dishes.
(4)Nicolette M.
I've only been to the restaurant once, but I went with someone who has been there several times and loves the place. The restaurant is still pretty new and is still trying menu options. I went for lunch. Free with the meal was a spring roll & a cream cheese rangoon. The restaurant makes its own duck sauce, using pineapple, oranges, and mango, and, recently, just started making a version with habaneros in it. I sampled the habanero version and found it to taste great--not to spicey...just a little kick. I had the hot and spicy pork for lunch, and it was among the best stir fry dishes I've had at a Chinese restaurant in Indy. The staff was also very friendly--I was told by the person I visited it with that their friendliness is one of his favorite things about the restaurant. I probably should have rated them at a 4-star since this was my first time there, but I'm am optimistic and am certain that the quality lunch I had there is their standard. Tiger Lily and Naisa are so far my favorite Chinese-style Asian restaurants in the city and I would recommend either to anyone who wants quality Chinese, although neither should necessarily be considered "authentic" Chinese.

Authentic chinese food ?? who knows...I don't at least :-) none-the-less...very good food...fresh..not off the sysco truck ingredients...pretty good service...nice...albeit loud atmoshpere..young lady...(junior at north central) did a commendable job of balancing a smart ass (moi)...an 8 top...the hostess station....not quite ready for LeBernardin...but still...great job !!definately going backcheck it out indy !

Food is okay (although is chef doesn't know how to make a chow mein) but service is AWFUL. My friend ordered the Champong, took 2 bites and didn't like it- she asked to send it back and order something out. The owner came out and told her she'd still have to pay for it. We all went back and forth with the owner, and asked if she's ever heard the phrase "the customer is always right". She said no! Okay then, glad to know!

Trying new Chinese places can be a very tricky task since you never know if you'll strike gold or have to toss it and eat PB&J that night. My husband and I decided to take the risk tonight, and Tiger Lily was our choice. We lucked out and found they have a facebook page with their menu. At first, we weren't so sure it was going to be a go since the vegetarian items weren't what we were looking for, but there is a message at the bottom of the menu: "For our vegetarian customers: many of our dishes can be prepared meatless-please inquire." Those were the magic words. With that, we ordered the Sesame Chicken and the Orange Peel Chicken and had both dishes made vegetarian. Since we ordered to go, and I didn't step foot in the place, I cannot tell you anything about the ambiance, décor, or wait staff. What I can tell you, is that the food is almost incredible--"almost" simply because I'd like to try more dishes before giving them that credit. The tofu was lightly braised and not overcooked and dry. The vegetables were fresh. The sauce was light, not overly sweet, and most importantly, not greasy. While on the topic of sauce, the sauce was not thick as it is at many restaurants, but it was still very flavorful: it was there to highlight and flavor the main ingredients rather than overpower them. We will definitely be visiting Tiger Lily again to see what else they have to offer.
(4)Arunima R.
I absolutely love their Vietnamese Noodle bowl with beef. Usually their lunch specials are very good. Salt & Pepper chicken/beef is well done too. Not all their selections off the menu are great but their specials have never disappointed us. We usually go there for lunch. Service has always been good. If you do ask for your food to be extra spicy, the cook adds habanero chillis to the sauce to make it spicy and that does not leave a good effect.

My son and I dined at Tiger Lily last night. When we left the house we had no idea where we were going. We were both in one of those moods that everything he suggested, I nixed and everything I suggested he nixed. I just started driving and we ended up seeing Tiger Lily. Both of us agreed that it looked interesting and we should give it a try. The menu took some time to read and I finally made my decision. I ordered the beef with flat noodles only to be told they had just run out of flat noodles. The server apologized for having forgotten to tell me that. I was taking some time to try to find what else I may like and the server said she could go ask what other noodle might work well with that dish. So, she returned saying she was told the rice noodles would taste good and have a good texture. I decided to go with that. The meal ended up being very good and my son liked my food better than the dish he chosed, which was a seafood dish with ramen noodles. His meal tasted fine, but it had a much milder flavor than what I think he expected. He added about 1/4 of the bottle of Sriracha sauce and then he thought it tasted better. (Keep in mind, he's 12.) Oh, we started with the spring rolls which were really good. The veggies were really fresh and the rolls were nice and crispy. The home made duck sauce was also really great. It all just tasted really friesh. The decor is quite pleasant and the server was very friendly, she was quick without making you feel rushed.

I would not recomend this restaurant to any family, they have pretty good food, a little pricy for chiense food, I always ordered the food and picked up when in Indy, and couple times we ate there, both times was not real busy, this time before christmas after a long day shoping we went to eat there, they were busy we waited for long time to be served, they served the soup but not the dinner, I checked with the waitress how long we need to wait she checked with the chef and said another 15 minutes, I was not happy and the girl saw it in my face and said let me check again, in 2 minutes the chef comes to our table and said "we are extremely busy, if you want to wait then wait if not " then he showed the exit door extending his hand toward the door". I was shocked, what kind of treatment is this, we decided to leave since I did not like it, when we were leaving I told the waiter who I think must be the chef, who looks like is the owner, tell your manager this is not a good way to treat your customers, he looked at me with a smile and said have a nice night.................I could not believe it, usually when they are late, they appologize or offer a tea or something and ask to wait, I have never been in a restaurant to tell you, if you don't want to wait get the hell our. now you rate this restaurant, I would never set a step in this restaurant, even if they have the best food.

Highly reccomend the Singapore Noodles! I had them once & they immediately became my favorite Chinese dish in town.
(4)Leslie C.
It has been a while since I visited the restaurant and it was suggested that we have lunch there today. I forgot what I was missing out on. Their spring rolls are the absolute best!
(4)John M.
As a frequenter of Chinese restaurants in major metropolitan locals such as SF! NYC and LA, I was pleasantly surprised to find this little stripmall Mom and pop reallyholding it's own against the big city heavyweights. What I particularly enjoyed was the service, with the chef coming out to our table to make sure we were happy with his talents. Very friendly, very affordable, and I wasn't weighed down with that saucy msg feeling afterwards. I will make this my regular when visiting my folks here

This place messed up 3 of 6 orders. They even managed to take an order for something they didn't know what it was. Food was so-so.

We got some carry out the other night from Tiger Lily. I got the pork bulgogi- it was so delicious. Lots of very tender pork loin in spicy Korean hot sauce, with onions and carrots. We shared a vegetable pancake as an appetizer- these are filling, rich, and tasty. This is not your standard Chinese restaurant fare...that is why I will be back.
