This is the hole in the wall bar that you have always dreamed of. A secret oasis if you will. Nothing spells Americana like a meat lovers pizza crafted. That's right, crafted. Like a fine artisan. And let us not forget about cocktails. Hmmm delicious naughty water is to be found here a plenty. Ladies, if your man takes you to South Chicago, he's a trendy b*tch. If he takes you to the Dugout, he's a man. Now as far as the cats go....it turns out that this place is a bar. It is not a pet sanctuary. The crazy cat ladies never frequented the place and never will. So roll your asses in catnip and enjoy your kitties. The rest of us will be at the Dugout.

like drinking in your dad's bar. everything is exactly as you remember. small front door that steps right into the L-shaped bar. maybe 15-20 stools. classic bar tip with small rail & box footrest. comfy, broken in (some too much) stools. bar back is simple & disorganized, just shelves & hdtvs. white walls everywhere else with beer signs/mirrors/etc. food is your average bar food. nothing to brag about, but very satisfying. other patrons have spent time in a bar and very friendly. easy to talk to others up & down the bar with sports or local news being the primary topics. not a dive bar, just your average neighborhood tavern.

I met some friends for a pre-show drink at the dugout. The night was brisk and the seats on the sidewalk were full of people laughing and catching up with friends after a long week. I had to go inside to get a drink, but the bartender did a great job and was very nice. It's bright inside with a lot of locals filling the bar stools. No frills, good pub grub. Hit an ATM before you get there. Theirs charges a $5 fee. Walking distance to see a show. Street parking.

Horrible service unless you are a high paying regular the bartenders keep the owner happy if you know what I mean so they can be as rude as they want I would never Recommend anyone to ever go there ever

Good pizza! Nice staff as well as patrons. You can tell most are frequent customers. Out door seating when weather permits. All around a great dive bar. It's also walking distance to a ton of other cool places in fountain square.
(4)Chris M.
Great neighborhood bar. Nice staff. Laid back atmosphere. Usually good food. I dig salt but food has been way over salted at times. When its on though, it's on. Draft beer available now too. The bathroom sometimes smells weird.

The Dugout is a no frills neighborhood dive bar. If you are looking for a low key night, this is the spot. Football on tv, great pizza and a decent selection of local beers on tap. Jukebox plays some good music too.

Great neighborhood dive located in Fletcher Place. This is the place I go when I want a low-key atmosphere, to not run into people I know, when I just want a Bud Light in a bottle, and I don't want to spend over $50 for my husband and I to eat and drink beer. The pizza is usually what I crave when headed to the dugout. Loaded with toppings and cheese, its perfect to soak up the alcohol. There is a large bar usually full with regulars and plenty of tables. TVs for sports, jukebox for music, a private parking lot, and occasionally happy hour with a buffet of complimentary finger foods. Thank God the Dugout exists.

Took my first trip to the dougout with a few fellow yelpers the other night. Not much to look at but man this pizza is pretty great. We got the deluxe with jalapenos included. All the toppings sit atop a thin crust that is covered in delicious sauce. The toppings are then covered with a blanket of cheese. The cheese is nicely browned as well. Really this is the kind of pizza I am all about. Top it off with a bucket of PBR after a trip to new day meadery and the white rabbit and you are in for a perfect evening. Kitchen is open during the week till 10. Make your way there and try it out for yourself.

Loving the Dugout. I can't believe I have never eaten here as much as I have been coming here over the years. It's smokey and totally a locals bar, last one in Fountain Square it seems. The Karaoke night is by far my favorite. I am not a singer but a mere spectator. It's impressive! Older neighborhood locals belting out some classic country and/or some sweet oldies. This is the event and seating fills up. There are a couple of tables outside for some fresh air and street heckling or I suppose you could just lean back and watch the traffic. Could be the last not so secret dive bar undiscovered by hipsters in Fountain Square. Get in while the gettings good!

Friendly neighborhood bar. Personally I enjoy the pizza and breaded tenderloin. Not a bad place to watch sports.

Random find. Good service cold Beer and NDSU football on the big Screen. We are definitely coming back to try the shrimp po boy!

This is a neighborhood hole in the wall type place but is very good at being just that. I have ordered food here multiple times. The wings are solid. The pizza is good. And their burgers are, well burgers. The reason im giving four stars and not three is because this past week my gf and I stoped in for a beer while on a bike ride (its important to stay hydrated) and ordered the special to split. It was a blackened cat fish po'boy. It was so effing good we got a second one. The kitchen is under new management and I hope the good things keep coming. A hole in the wall? Yes, but a nice on.

They call this a "dive bar" but it is clean and nice. After walking along Virginia looking for somewhere reasonably priced to eat we stumbled along this place. The price was right and the food was delicious. My husband ordered the grilled bologna and I got the tuna. Both were great but he adored the Bologna. The bar service was great and drink prices were excellent.

Never have I so easily given a restaurant a one star review after my experience with The Dugout Bar. Their bland food and horrid service left a lot to be desired upon our visit a month ago. When consulted, management did nothing to solve the problem, not even offering an apology. If you're looking for a family atmosphere and palatable food, The Dugout Bar is NOT the place to go.
(1)Chris P.
I have been visiting this place for years. They used to have breakfast on Saturday and not sure if still available. The service is always good and you have to try the fried bologna and cheese sandwich. PBR also is on tap along with your favorite domestics and local craft. Great place to meet friends and chill out.

We were due to meet family for dinner next door and arrived early and they were not yet open. Rather than head back to the car- we decided to grab a drink. This place is a little dive bar- the crowd at the time must have found every old honky tonk song (think Dukes of Hazzard them song and the. Go farther back in your country memories). Those at the bar knew every word and made sure to sing loud and proud. They use Fountain Square made vodka and it was great in my drinks (one drink turned into 2 because it was good!). Because of take out, and the large crowd at the bar I felt only having one person staffed was a drawback for them. Oddly enough, we would drop back in for a drink if we were nearby.

Great chill place with an awesome outdoor patio! Food is decent bar food and love the black jack sauce for the tenders. Reasonable prices and very friendly staff. Has been a neighborhood staple for years.

What a cute little "hole in the wall" bar. We were due to meet family for an early New Years Eve dinner downtown right next door. We park the car, walk about a block in really freezing temps to find our destination isn't open yet. The bar next door is! We go in for a drink, what a cute place. Taking a table we were entertained by the patrons at the bar who clearly started New Years Eve a little early- they were all singing along with the juke box. The waitress had command of the bar, the tables, and she was hoppin! Incredible service. What I liked the best was hearing they use a local distributors for some of their alcohol. I'd definitely stop back in if I were nearby.

One of my favorite hole in the wall bars. There's always a spot at the bar, but there's ample room for a group of friends. They recently changed their menu... There's still the classic choices on there, but the new stuff didn't seem to fit the style of the bar. But their tenderloin sandwich is awesome!
(4)Amy S.
Local hole in the wall type bar. Not the new hipster trying to make Fountain Square something it's not kind of place. I usually sit outside and enjoy a few beverages after work. Very decent prices and friendly service. Inside looks to be able to accommodate a decent crowd and it's clean. I have tried the fries, very good, nice n crispy not too greasy. Special always seem reasonably priced n usually spark my interest but I'm trying to keep the spending down at the moment.

The Fried Bologna sandwich is sent from the gods. Literally like a half pound patty of pressed goodness. Get it my belly :) cheap beer, classy people and plenty of street parking. This place cannot be beaten. 2 thumbs up.

BEST PIZZA IN TOWN! Even with one of the best rated pizza places right next door to the Dugout, I still go to The Dugout when I want pizza. The bar itself is a typical, no-frills, neighborhood dive bar that isn't trying to hard to impress you or cater to the young hipster crowd. 4 times out of 5 I'm just going there for pizza, but 1 time out of 5 I grab the cheapest beer, sit down at the bar and listen to the various walks of life rant about whatever's on their mind. So glad it's non-smoking now. I couldn't spend more than a minute in there back when it was a smoking bar. I definitely recommend the Dugout as a place to kill time and enjoy pizza.

It's like coming home, people are welcoming and the liquor is flowing! Not to mention the DELICIOUS pizza! This is the bar where, if you go a couple of times, everybody knows your name (and yes, they are always glad you came). These are the frontiers of the "Fountain Square" area, so take note all of you. This is the place where judgements are checked at the door and everyone wants the same thing: to drink and be merry. Don't forget to enjoy the patio and do some nice people watching once it warms up!

Cheap. Not great but a decent local dive. Pitchers are like $6, you can get pretty loaded for cheap. The sliders are pretty good but the cheese balls are a must try, they are like tator tots with creamy pepper jack inside, seriously good. Pass on the wings, they were way too salty and I couldn't even finish them. Overall a good greasy towny bar.
(3)Laura L.
Perfect little neighborhood bar! Food is reliably good, the drinks are sanely priced and the staff is always friendly. Wonderful to sit out front on the patio during the summer and enjoy the ever-growing activity along the Cultural Trail.

This is a dive bar in Fletcher near Fountain Square. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Cons:Thought this place would be a good spot for cheap beer, was told they did not have light beers on tap and gave us cans. Found out they were four dollars each. Rip off. You can get draft for cheaper at nicer places nearby. They also said they don't do tabs. Won't be back. Pro: Can was cold.

I've only been once, but I'm ready to return. Since moving to Fletcher Place, I've been looking for a bar near by that's similar to my neighborhood favorite, J Clydes. I think I've found it. The Dugout is a simple hole-in-the-wall place. They have a decent selection, Sun King for $4.50, happy hour appetizers, and my favorite part: HOT PEPPER CHEESE BALLS! No longer must I wait until my coveted Mug N' Bun trips for these fried morsels of tasty peppery goodness. Had a nice little piece form this joint, too. Really excited to return.

Contrary to some of the reviews, this place is awesome. Try the pizza!!! The service is great, unless you come in acting like you own the place, then you get what you deserve. This is a place where everyone gets along and everyone says hi! Did I mention try the pizza??
(5)Cara N.
Great hole in the wall neighborhood bar. The food was your typical bar food. They do serve Sun King! We went on a Friday night and the service was great until later in the evening and we didn't see our waitress for an hour. Probably will return due to location and the cheese balls!
(3)Kris P.
A great place to flea when you can't take the hipsters of fountain square anymore...working class all the way. I've been hearing good things about the pizza lately. Ours was burnt but that didn't stop me from over indulging. The crust is a pre-fab cracker crust which is not the way I typically roll but who cares:it's pizza! The burgers were solid. They pull a tricky move by using an egg bun. Big Fan! The burger was a little over done but that did stop us from receiving the clean plate award(thanks mom!). other notes -ample parking -outside seating -smokey -low key -okay dokey
(3)Kami L.
This is the most neighborhoody bar in Fountain Square. It's a low-key, unpretentious dive bar, and I definitely mean that in a good way. Their pizza is fantastic, fun selection of 80s jams on the jukebox (I heard Journey like 3 times when I was there) and the service is friendly. The music isn't so loud that you can't talk to the people that you're with. And now that it's non-smoking you probably won't die of an asthma attack in there. I would go back for sure.
(4)Theodore B.
I'm a big fan of the dugout. They have their own parking lot, which is a plus. The food is very reasonably priced and the portions are generous. The pizza in particular reminds me of the thin crust pizza you can get up in the Region, in case you're familiar with it. They have nothing on draft, which is unfathomably depressing. But regardless, this is a cool little local pub. It's sort of the ultimate "go for a drink after work" bar, if that makes any sense. Oh, and the owner is super down to earth and friendly. Check it out.
(4)Sam S.
The food is really good here. I go in here occasionally for lunch and have never had any problems with my food. They are friendly and the service is good. Good hamburgers and I like their fries.

I popped into the dug out last Friday to watch baseball since the game was only on cable and I don't have cable. Found a seat at the bar next to a guy that seemed a little off and three ladies that were having a good time. I was obviously into the game and had mentioned to the guy next to me who I was cheering for and why... then he started talking crap. Before I got there he couldn't care less about the game, now that I was there he started whispering things under his breath about the game and cheering for the other team - I almost freaking lost it and turned around and did something that could have got me in trouble. Probably the closest I've gotten to that like ever. That being said, it's an interesting place. It's a dive bar - they serve food - union stickers line the beer coolers (i think that's pretty cool) - patio seating for when it's nice - smoking, but the smoke on a Friday night didn't smoke me out. ventilation seems pretty good, but could be totally different in the winter when things are closed up. Pizza was mediocre but edible. They have a couple Sun King offerings, but other than that not much for microbrews - more of a "give me a High Life and a shot of Jamo" kinda place anyway.

I love Dugout. It's a smoky dive bar located in Fountain Square where it seems like most of the patrons are locals/regulars. They have really great pub grub like awesome pizzas, fried bologna sandwiches, a BLT consisting of approx 1 lb of bacon, a wonderful Philly cheesesteak, and weekend specials like fried frog legs or fried smelt, etc. They also have karaoke on certain nights which is really cool to watch. It's an older karaoke crowd who take pride in singing some great vocals/standards songs. There are a few tables outside on the sidewalk and it's kinda fun to sit out there and watch all of the Fountain Square traffic go by. So, if you want some pub grub and alcohol then go to the Dugout. If you want some food and need to sober-up go to Peppy Grill.
