Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

It's been a while since the previous time I was here. A couple years ago, it was sort of "bleh", but I tried it just recently, and now it has more zing. They now advertise and specialize in seafood (mariscos), but being a little short on cash, I opted for more standard and less expensive fare. They still have the doorway connection to the La Canasta grocery next door, so I assume it's the same owners, but they have new people running the restaurant. They still cater to an Hispanic clientele. This is not Tex-Mex for gringos. The waitress warned that the enchiladas I ordered were going to come spicey. I ordered them with the green sauce and with everything, plus a bistec soft-shell taco. YUM! Both were great. The enchiladas were made fresh, had plenty of bite, but were flavorful, not just picante. The open-face taco had cut-up meat chunks, not ground beef, and came with plenty of cilantro, and just the right amount of onions. I squeezed some lime juice over it, and the cilantro/lime-juice combination made a taco that puts a certain American chain to shame. Chips were unique, somewhat along the line of El Puerto de San Blas. They were double layer, apparently made in-house. Kind of heavy, but not too greasy. Two kinds of salsa were served in bowls, red and green, and they were pretty good, fresh, and appeared to be made in house. Plus there were four types of bottled salsa on the table. Two TV's were going, plus music from a stereo. There were three other tables occupied besides mine around 7:00pm. Most of the menu was dedicated to various seafood, which I'll try out next time. They didn't have paper towels in the men's room and the dispenser was out of soap. Ambience is acceptable, but I don't expect much out of hole-in-the-wall places like this. If you have time, check out the bakery/bread store immediately adjacent to the North, and the Canasta grocery immediately to the south of the restaurant. If the parking along Franklin Road is full, you can easily get to plenty of parking at Canasta, and it's just a few steps from the restaurant anyway.
