I'm really excited about Sushi Bar! For lunch I had Hamachi and Maguro nigiri, Spider Roll and green tea. Several elements really added to the experience: + Sushi is fresh and well proportioned. The protean to rice ratio was outstanding. Many places serve nigiri with way too much rice and spoil the entire experience - not here - thank you Sushi Bar for this + The place is impeccably clean + The soy sauce bottles were clean and cold - they had been stored in the cooler over night. This is a small but noticeable touch + Service was great + Value equation is spot-on. Quality sushi at a fair price +They're in Broad Ripple. I spend a lot of time here, so this is a plus for me They were really underutilized at lunch. I'm sort of happy about this but I think it will change as more people become aware of the Sushi Bar. I get the impression dinner is much busier.

Yay, this is my 100th review! I would like to thank Yelp, the many tasty restaurants in Indy, my adventurous mouth (hmm, that sounds so wrong..), and my partner in crime, Dillon. This is our new, NEW favorite sushi spot. I know I've probably said that about practically every sushi place we've been to here in Indy, but I'm serious; I'm in love Sushi Bar so much that I wish I could move in. Fresh, tasty, and inexpensive ($1 domestic beers, say whaaa?!!!); which is helpful since I'm on a mission to try all of there speciality rolls. My favorites so far are Birthday, Christmas, and Spicy Girl rolls. Their sushi menu is quite large; raw and cooked so there is something for everyone. Not in the mood for sushi (as IF!), their yakisoba and udon noodle soups are also quite tasty. Make sure you get an order of Negimaki appetizer, SO YUM. ^__^

My absolute favorite sushi spot to go to. Reasonable prices, cheap as hell lunch specials (which I adore because spending $30-$50 for a good bento is sometimes hard to swallow), and cheap beer. Everyone that works here is prompt with service and it's an incredibly laid back place, which I prefer. Nothing worse than a snotty sushi spot with mediocre product! This places is always on point. Their vegetarian selection of rolls in also fantastic, for anyone avoiding meat/fish. The sweet potato tempura roll and spicy avocado are my favorite in that regard. Also a big fan of the Nabeyaki udon and teriyaki salmon bento. Everything tastes refreshing and light.
(5)Chelsie W.
This is my new favorite sushi place in Indy. Really good, fresh sushi, and awesome beer specials. They also just expanded an outdoor patio with fantastic people watching on Broad Ripple Ave. My favorite: Shrimp Shumai
(5)Mariah L.
Omg sooooo good! Great fish combos on rolls and oh so tasty food! Definitely coming back :)
(5)Katrina D.
There was nothing bad about this place, but I was expecting a lot more from the high Yelp rating. I liked the small rooms where you could have an intimate dining experience with a group of friends. I'm new to town and this was my first sushi experience here. My boyfriend and I split six rolls. I wish they were a little bigger. It has always bothered me when a roll comes with six pieces instead of eight. The Tiger Roll was delicious and I would highly recommend it. They did have good beer specials, which my boyfriend took advantage of. Update: went back for lunch and it was a MUCH better value. Three rolls and a cup of miso soup for $10. I still wish the rolls were eight pieces.
(3)Iris T.
Great place! The five star rating is because of the awesome weekday drink specials and because Sushi Bar carries one of my favorite dishes: seafood udon bowl. I have tried many around town, and this is probably my favorite. Their sushi is also great, and it's a fun, and relaxed atmosphere. It's a very popular (and sometimes crowded) place, and if you are lucky enough to eat here on a warmer day, the tables outside are great for people-watching.
(5)Paige C.
Yum! I used to live in Bloomington and they have Sushi Bar - it was my favorite sushi in town so I was thrilled to see that Broadripple has one as well! I love all of the rolls but the Sun Roll is by far my favorite. I could get 2 of those rolls and call it a day - but that never actually happens because we always want to try as many as possible.
(5)Diamond C.
The miso and seaweed salad were pretty good. Service? Slow on the food, overly attentive and a little odd. Sushi? The urchin was a bit funky and one other roll was nothing special. Not too much of a fan but sadly, I've had far, far worse. The stuff that wasn't bad just simply lacked flavor.
(3)Sara B.
Best Sushi I've had in the Tri-State area (Ohio, indiana, Kentucky). I haven't eaten at all of them, but I'm confident it is probably one of the best. A number of vegetarian options. They were not very crowded on a Saturday night.
(5)Kimmi M.
I come here a lot. That's an understatement. When anyone is like "LOL LET'S GO EAT" I'm basically always "LET'S GO TO SUSHIBAR." From the $2 Imported beer special, to the insanely filling combo meals, this is a great place to satisfy all of my JapanNEEDS. There should be a separate rating here for the service. They deserve 10 stars. I have never felt more welcomed in a restaurant than by the staff of SushiBar. I always have prompt service with a smile, and it almost makes me want to go there every day if it weren't for that pesky thing we call "being an adult and paying rent." I almost always get roll combo 6, which comes with a yellowtail, salmon, cucumber, and california roll. I mean, come on, that's a lot of food AND a miso soup and salad. Save some room for dessert though, because the mochi ice cream is off the chain.
(5)Heather H.
This is one of those reviews that I almost don't want to write because I don't want to draw even more of a crowd to this fantastic place, but I know I would be doing them a disservice by not writing it. - $1 domestic beers - $2 imports (NOT KIDDING) - delicious, completely reasonably price sushi - much more authentic (and way cheaper) than the other sushi place down the road (not naming names here) - very nice selection of vegetarian rolls - cute ambiance - great for takeout if you want to eat on the Triton Taproom patio The only bad thing about this place is that you have to find parking in Broad Ripple in order to come here. Bonus points for having Sharknado on the tv the last time we were in!
(5)Melissa B.
Love this place--probably the best sushi in Broad Ripple. When anyone says they want dinner, I'm like "How bout sushi, eh? Sushi bar?" If you're looking for cheaper prices, lunch is probably the better time to go. Lunch specials for under ten bucks. It's not just their sushi that's delicious. Try their udon noodles or teriyaki. And hello...beer for two bucks. On top of that, the service is great, and I love the atmosphere. It's pretty much the exact opposite of Bro-City aka B-Rip.
(5)Jonathan P.
After driving around Indy in search of an open Sushi place on New Years Day we stumbled upon Sushi Bar. What a gem! It was seriously some of the best Sushi I've had outside of the California Coast. Very hospitable service and the food was amazing! Try the Squid Salad, you can't go wrong with it!
(5)Michael P.
A great product with very competitive pricing! All day happy hour with 2 dollar beers is nice to!
(5)Jennifer D.
Nice place. Food was good but not the best I've had. Definitely a good value. Service was great. Keeping in mind it is Indianapolis its a good sushi option.
(4)Joshua W.
My meal consisted of a Chicago roll for an appetizer and the Beef Udon as an entree with Sapporo and the house sake to drink. Chicago Roll-thought it was king of sloppy, as the rice was falling apart, but I enjoyed the combo of tuna, avocado and cream cheese. I look forward to to trying the other rolls. Beef Udon-delightful. Broth was flavorful, the vegetables maintained their crunch, and even the tofu was a nice treat after absorbing the broth. The one knock was the beef: rather than serving it raw and letting the broth cook it, they seer it before serving which caused it to become over cooked because you can't just dive in due to the impending burn of the scorching broth. Overall a wonderful experience; however my dates dish was below her standards, but she got a generic Americanized dish cause she isn't a huge fan of Asian food. Strongly recommend for a small group, no more than 4.
(4)Joanne M.
Ate our weight in Sushi. Freshest, most generous cuts of nigiri and sashimi. Would definitely go back.
(5)Dylan E.
This might have become my favorite sushi place in Indy. Located right on Broad Ripple Avenue, it's easy to find as it is the only building that looks like somebody's house. Inside is a nice cozy space that probably holds less than 40 people at max capacity. Everything looks new and is very nice. It's not as romantic of a setting as some of the nicer sushi places in town, but it is still a nice place for a more casual date. There is some seating at the sushi bar where the chefs are preparing the orders, and a lot of low top tables spread far enough apart that you can feel like you are eating in your own space. We were seated quickly, although on a Thursday night it was almost full. The décor is definitely on par with the Japanese cuisine, as the walls are covered in bamboo and there are plenty of Eastern decorations. The restaurant itself felt much more like the places I ate at in Japan than the larger sushi places that are popular in Indy. It felt very quaint and comfortable. The one thing that threw me was the country music that was playing, although you really had to intentionally listen for it to hear it as it was turned down pretty low. On to the menu, and first and foremost, those beer specials; $1 domestic bottles and $2 import bottles. That has to make this nice little sushi restaurant the cheapest place to drink in Broad Ripple. They had a decent selection, and even carried some of the Japanese beer varieties. There were plenty of choices for sake and wine also. The menu had a huge selection of sushi options, and also offered entrees and bento boxes. They had a few specials that were written on a white board next to the bar that weren't on the regular menu. The sushi was delicious, and was the best quality to quantity to price ratio I've had. I thought it all tasted very fresh, the portions were very large with generous cuts of fish, and I think that this was cheaper than places with similar options. I recommend the tiger roll if you like a lot going on in your sushi. The summer roll with mango was delicious, as was the rainbow roll. I thought the service was quick and attentive. Our server was very nice and got our orders quickly. This is another one of those places that for some reason doesn't just automatically give you a glass of water with your meal, but that was about my only complaint for the entirety of my visit. I'll definitely be back here to try more of their offerings, and wouldn't mind getting some takeout to hop over and enjoy on the Triton Taproom patio to do some people watching, as another reviewer suggested.

I went here for the first time for a double date this past Saturday. We went in around 6:15 and got a table right away. Here's a breakdown of the experience: 5 for the atmosphere. It's intimate, bright, modern, and fitting for the restaurant type. 4 for the food. We ordered 5 very different kinds of sushi rolls. They were all good, but I think the nearby sushi competitors serve food that is more unique and flavorful. 3 for service, which drags down the overall rating. Getting our food took a full 40 minutes, which was very surprising since, like I mentioned, it was not crowded when we had arrived. I was starting to think our order had been lost. The waitresses seemed to work as a team and were friendly and frequently filled our water glasses, but didn't have it all together. One came by for drink orders after we had already placed them with another waitress. Finally, splitting the rolls between the two couples' checks but putting my glass of plum wine and green tea ice cream on my boyfriend and my check was overwhelming for them. Our friends were kind enough to split everything 50-50 to make it easier, but it was a little embarrassing for me. By the time we left at 7:30, the restaurant was at capacity, and about 15 people were standing near the door waiting for a table. We weren't pressured to leave or anything, but the crowdedness made me antsy. I'd be willing to go back, especially since other reviewers have said their orders came quickly. Maybe this was a fluke, but it is unlikely to overtake Naked Tchopstix as my favorite Broad Ripple sushi restaurant.
(3)Corrine P.
I must write an update because I've gone here 8 times in less than 6 months. The sushi is great and the beers are cheap. Get the side salad for only $2 because the dressing is amazing. The only downsize to this place is that when it's crowded the service isn't as good. Tip: If you check-in, you might get a $5 off $20 coupon!
(5)Nicole C.
Difficult for me to rate- the ambiance and service, as well as the more "basic" rolls were about average, but that Tiger roll... absolutely 5 star. Like last minute added one to-go 5 star, then stuffed myself with it once home... and still loved it. I think overall there's pretty good value here, I didn't take advantage of the beer special, but wow. Yelp's checkin deal helped, too. My main complaints were the "team" waitressing that made it confusing who to ask for my next roll. On the up side, though, they have a GREAT homemade peanut dressing for salad. Worth returning when there's a sushi itch, but nothing mind blowing- maybe more takeout :)
(3)Greta S.
I have been here three times and I am a fan. It is a small, quaint place with great service and excellent, fresh sushi. I have been to most of the sushi places in the Indy area and Sushi Bar is my fav. The sushi is BEAUTIFUL (especially when getting some of the higher end, specialty rolls). The seaweed salad is fresh with just a touch of heat.... Wonderful food and great drink specials too. Must try!
(5)Meisha W.
This is such a great place for yummy sushi. And it's fun for kids. The prices are very reasonable. And there's a cool table for a large group that you can sit in without shoes.
(4)Colleen F.
Excellent prices, service, cleanliness, and fresh sushi! SO GREAT.... our new favorite sushi spot.
(5)Ariana G.
Sushi bar is my favorite sushi in Indianapolis. It is always fresh, flavorful and decently priced. The service is often slightly discombobulated, however that is likely due to the fact that they are always packed. The servers are very accommodating, and to be quite honest the sushi is worth a short wait. Their standard rolls (spicy salmon, spider, tuna, california, etc.) are fantastic, but their specialty rolls are out of this world; creative and so fresh. I would eat here daily if I could. They have a very cheap lunch special. The sushi chefs are stationed at the front of the restaurant and you can see them working, each one is dedicated and immensely talented. I have eaten here countless times and never had a disappointing meal.
(5)May K.
The sushi is truly mediocre. The rice wasn't seasoned at all and had no flavor. The fish was alright, but not good enough for the price. The yakisoba we had there was so terrible (seasoned poorly and the noodles were way overcooked) that we didn't eat it after one or two bites and left it on the table. I will never go back there.
(2)Tonitini C.
Very tasty and good. Ambiance is cute an perfect. Staff is very friend and accommodating. They have a specialty called the spicy girl, and you must try it. Love this place, pricey but good. Nice to spend a special day or Sunday with a small family.
(4)Jennifer P.
Sushi here is good, but not the best I have ever had. If I am in the area and craving sushi, I might go back, but I might look for somewhere new to try. The service is usually kind of slow and the prices are average. I can find something I like when we go, but it is definitely not my favorite sushi place in Indy.
(3)Laura W.
Pretty good place in an awesome location. Be careful though...I don't enjoy sweet and savory and they have fruit in a lot of their rolls!
(4)Alex D.
We went in there as a change from naked chopstix down the street. It was SUPER worth it. The ambiance was much nicer and cleaner. The decor was awesome and it wasn't so crazy loud. The service was amazing and very delicious rolls, nigiri and handrolls. The pieces were perfect and everything tasted super amazing. This is super great spot and is now our fav sushi spot in Indy.
(5)Ashley C.
We decided to come here for dinner after we drove by and noticed the now open sign. Im always up for a new sushi place. We were very pleased. It was not very big but looked very nice inside. We even got a table by the window that looked out over broad ripple. We went around 10 so it was fun people watching the obnoxious people stumbling down the street We started off with hot sake and gyoza. Ive never liked sake but it was fun to try again. I felt fancy. The gyoza was great. It was crispy and had good flavor. I ordered three rolls of sushi which included spicy tuna, one with tuna and avocado, and the last was fried with cream cheese and a few other things. The tuna was fantastic. Sometimes with the spicy tuna it can get almost dry. This was not the case. It was full of flavor. The fried roll was also great. It wasn't too overpoweringly fried. We also got the beef sukiyaki. It was huge! We both had two bowls and there was still a ton to bring home. We loved it! The broth tasted great and the beef was tender and wonderful. When I go to sushi places I usually only get sushi but I will definitely be coming back for this. The service was pretty good as well. You could tell that they are new but they were nice and eager to serve you. It ended up being around 55 for our whole dinner but we got a lot and drinks as well. Either way it was worth it.

As we were walking by, talking about what to have for dinner, we stopped for a second and discussed having Japanese. A man ran out of the restaurant, down a set of stairs, and handed us a menu, two cards for 2 free pieces of sushi, and an announcement about $1-2 beer. Can't beat that... So we went in and started to order. Immediately, the service is confused. Two people came to take our drink order, which is fine, but then the same two people also tried to take our food order. This is the part where you guys go back to the kitchen and decide who has our table. But no, they were both stepping on each others toes for our whole meal. Whatever, not our problem. We place our dinner orders and hand the waiter the two free sushi cards he had just handed us outside. He explained that the cards are only good for our next meal, not the current one. There is nothing written on the cards about any restrictions... just "two free pieces of sushi with any order." We pick a fight and win. They also forgot our soup and salad until all the other food started coming out. We actually had to prompt them to bring it. We're kind of rolling our eyes and preparing for the worst. And then, magically, the food was good. Agedashi tofu was fresh; salad dressing refreshing; salmon don tasty. They forgot to charge M for his $2 beer and decided to leave it off the bill when he brought it to their attention. And the 4 pieces of free chefs choice sushi were salmon and tuna... definitely not the cheapest options on the menu. Very impressed. Overall I don't know what to think about the place. They definitely saved themselves in the end and the food was very good, but expect a lot of confusion and some arguing to get your way. Then again, I didn't see another sushi place in Broad Ripple so they might be your only option anyway.
(3)Aaron W.
The $2 bottles of Asahi, Kiri, Sapporo and Heineken piqued my curiosity about this place. I primarily drink craft beer but I do have a soft spot for some Japanese and European corporate lagers. Even the American licensed Japanese beers will do with a plate full of sushi. I am not much of a sushi roll fan. I have been to Japan many times and rolls really don't exist there save for a handful that are mono-ingredient rolls. These rolls are making me a fan of Ameri-zushi, though. There are a ton of them. Most have some slightly spicy kick and a lot going on in them. They are fun, complex and visually appealing. The taste is incredible and the quality seems pretty high. Again, they are rolls, so the fish quality can be hidden by the multitude of other ingredients. That being said, I think the fish is as fresh as possible. I love the old house you have to walk into. Once in, it is clean and well-kept. The ambiance will not blow you away but it works.
(5)Michelle O.
My favorite sushi place.. great food and great deal with the YELP checking. Staff is nice.
(5)Jonny Q.
This place is absolutely, positively incredible. For starters, the sushi is as good as you'll find for three times the price at a trend-setting Chicago or downtown Indy sushi restaurant, and the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and intimate. (When Mrs. Quest and I had dinner there a few weekends ago, I "overheard" every single catty remark the verbose young gentleman at the table next to ours made about all three of his closest friends. That was a bit of dinner entertainment.) Then there's the bottled beer menu. Basically, it works like this: all domestic bottles are $1.00. That's right, $1.00. But what if the thought of drinking a Miller Lite with dinner gives you hives? What if you just can't eat sushi without sipping one of those giant silver cans of Sapporo? They've got you covered. (But it'll set you back $2.00 instead of just $1.00.) Awesome place to eat your fill of delicious rolls or just sit around and get tanked on suspiciously--probably illegally-cheap--beer.
(4)Emily C.
Service 4/5 We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. This was 5:30 on a Tuesday so it wasn't very busy. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere/Ambiance 4/5 Really liked the decor in here, it's a neat little place! Only negative for me was the music was a bit too loud, they were just playing a local Top 40 station; there was a lot of Kesha for some reason. Food 4/5 When we put in our order the waitress asked if we wanted soup or salad so we both thought these were included with the meal; the salad and soup were only $2 each so I'm really not complaining but it was just a surprise when we got the bill and learned it wasn't included. Just something to note. In any case both were very good. The salad dressing was really delicious, it had a hint of peanut, not your everyday ginger salad dressing that I've had at other places. We then got an order of the Gyoza. They were crispy and flavorful without being greasy. For sushi I ordered the Spicy Scallop and the Celebration Roll (one of the daily specials) both were delicious, the Celebration Roll was a party in my mouth! Husband got the Birthday Roll and the Fujiama Roll, he liked the Birthday Roll better. They also had a beer special going on, husband's Kirin Ichiban was only $2. I also received a $5 off coupon for checking in on Yelp. Over all a good experience, we will definitely be back as they have a wide variety of interesting rolls we'd like to try!
(4)Ronnie G.
Sushi is fresh and delicious. The service was prompt and courteous. Great beer specials and the house sake is delicious. A must try is the yellow tail roll simple but amazing.
(5)Amanda W.
If I could change one thing about this place, it would be to move it off of Broadripple Ave because I dislike going there so much. I can't say that this place knocks my socks off, but I do really enjoy their miso soup. edamame, and sushi rolls. I haven't yet tried a roll that I dislike. I do think it is a great value for the price.
(4)Antoine S.
Favorite sushi spot in the city. Tiger roll is the best, I also like the dynamite, and mango shrimp rolls over others. Very well placed location right on the strip in broad ripple and it's most fairly priced compared to other spots in the city. Never had a roll here I didn't like and I'm here almost once a week trying new ones. They have $1 and $2 beers too even Sapporo is 2 bucks. Service could be better especially when it's even a little crowded the service isn't the best - not bad just could improve. Overall I definitely recommend this place to newbies or pros!
(4)Tony J.
Had dinner here last Friday. Though did not find anything spectacular with the 3 rolls and salad we shared, it is conviniently located in the heart of BR. I'd still pick this place over NakedTChop if in the area and craving for sushi.
(3)Brandon P.
Great sushi, quick service, and cheap beer. Yeah!
(5)Kari R.
Not impressed. Tried three rolls. I don't like cooked ones but I tried one anyways, won't count that one against them. Had the yellowtail and jalapeno roll. Some fresh and some pickled jalapenos. Eeew. The Twins roll was good though.
(2)Melanie M.
Definitely a great sushi restaurant with a great selection, very fair prices and excellent service. The icing on the cake is that they have $2 domestics and import beers everyday. Their jalapeno roll is really good, and they always have specials that aren't always on their regular menu. I highly recommend this restaurant!
(5)Chris S.
After having a couple bad experiences I was reluctant to return to Sushi Bar but the fish is fresh and the prices are reasonable. I returned a month after the incident I described in my first review for some good sushi and cheap Japanese beer. To my amazement the server remember us and what happened last time. She apologized for our experience and served up larger than normal rolls. On top of that she did not charge us for our beer! Although I expected some form of compensation the first time around it was very nice to have the personal apology (better late than never). I guess the quickest way to redeem yourself in my book is a few free drinks. In the words of Arnold...I'll be back.
(5)Megan O.
This place is great for a date or to go with friends. The menu has a large sushi selection, and I really liked the variety of seafood appetizers. I'll admit that I didn't actually like my baby octopus appetizer, but I think that's just me being squeamish. The best part? Cheap beer and very full $5 wine glasses.
(4)Natasha J.
There was no wait time to be sated (keep in mind I went on a Sunday). The waitress was nice and patient. The sushi taste fresh. The decor is nice and appropriate for the area. I will be a frequent customer.
(4)Larry R.
The wait was a little long on a Saturday night, but it was worth the wait. Loved the Valentines Day Roll (no rice).
(5)Benson S.
Yeah 5 stars. I don't do that too often. However this joint is that cool. EVERYONE knows about their beer prices. They are..wait for it...wait for it...LEGENDARY. But you can not overlook the value you get with their food. My lunch buddy and I ate there recently and we were both amazed by first the quality and then the pricing. My friend had shrimp tempura. Shrimp, veggies soup and sticky rice-$7.99. That's about the going rate of a good breaded tenderloin;and Tempura frying is a little bit trickier than floating a tenderloin. I opted for the 2 roll combo with miso soup or salad for $6.99. For my adult beverage I chose sake. I'll be the first to admit beer is complementary to most food;but with sushi I am old school-warm rice wine. That too is nicely priced at $6.99;for a good sized carafe. This time I had eel & cucumber and spicy tuna. I'm all thinking about what I'll have next.
(5)Abby N.
always fresh. Great value, best miso soup and ginger dressing. $1 domestic beers $ $2 imports
(5)Ian C.
First off, that is one hell of a beer special. Dollar domestics, two bucks for imports. The sushi itself has decent prices, not super cheap but not terribly expensive. We got four rolls (oh jeez), and they looked absolutely delicious - there's something to be said for good plating. We had three of the fancier rolls (Birthday, Christmas, and Tokyo) and a more basic Philly roll. I think the Philly was my favorite - so simple but so delicious. The others were good but the flavors didn't quite "pop" like other sushi I've had. I don't know what it is about good sushi places, but after my meal I always feel this mysterious sense of Zen-like satisfaction, like I just want to lean back in my seat and go "ahhhhh" as the universe showers me with cosmic goodness. Maybe it was that I finally managed to get over my horrible habit of using chopsticks like a complete doofus. I'm sure the pair of Sapporos I drank helped out a bit. I'll definitely be coming back here, hopefully with a group of folks so we can sit in that sweet party room with the circular table.
(4)Jacob F.
Awesome dinner spot. This is a regular dinner choice for my friends and I. They have very good and reasonably priced sushi, great, friendly service, and awesome beer specials. I always leave very satisfied with the experience. I highly recommend trying it out!
(5)Suzanne C.
Finally!! Fresh sushi in the midwest! After living here for a year, I had decided that my sushi cravings simply had to be met during frequent trips to the east and west coasts. I'm not saying this ranks up with those experiences, but it is mighty fine for where we are! The fish is fresh, they have several 'fun' rolls that are delicious and the sashimi, particularly the white tuna doesn't disappoint. The Tuna Tataki is pretty delicious and they have great beer specials. All in all, a saving grace for Broad Ripple and Indianapolis in general. While Sakura has fresh fish that is enjoyable, they lack the creativity that you might be looking for in the roll selection. Sushi Bar has a nice blend of both...
(4)Jamison R.
Pretty good! We've been twice and the fish seems quite fresh. We've tried a number of different roles and my favorite is the Naruda (?). Instead of being wrapped in seaweed or soy, this roll is wrapped in cucumber. Very light & refreshing. I haven't tried anything besides sushi but plan to in the future. Beers are $1 for domestics, $2 for imports!
(4)Ashley K.
I've been visiting Sushi Bar regularly since it opened. It is hands down my favorite sushi spot in Indianapolis. You can't beat $1 domestic bottles either! I recommend you try the Agedashi Tofu appetizer. You can't go wrong with any of the sushi rolls.
(5)Sam Y.
Service was impersonal but the food was delicious. I recommend the beef sukiyaki
(4)Willie S.
(Self) Verified Customer Thanks Yelpers. This was a winner. The portions were generous. The fish excellent - few get excellent for the fish. Simply said - why eat sushi - for the fish. Tuna, salmon, white tuna, yellow tail. Great Soup ok but not why I was there. Service good. Price - always spend too much with my teenage sushi loving companions but pricing was a bit lower than some others. Had a spicy tuna roll as well - good for a roll. Companion had Fantasy Roll - it was very good. Interesting if straightforward layout. Clean.
(4)Amie L.
Tried out the Sushi Bar for the first time last week. I was very impressed. They have a huge menu, overwhelmingly huge. We quickly narrowed down our choices via the specialty roll menu. We tried several rolls, one of which was the spicy girl. Pretty delicious. The server was super helpful and was genuinely interested in our experience. We will definitely be going back!!

I tried the Sushi Bar for the first time and enjoyed it. It's a clean, open atmosphere inside and a nice central location in B Ripple (I recommend sitting at a table by the windows-great people watching). I really liked all the bamboo. I was with a friend and we tried 4 of their rolls. The one's that stick out are the Christmas and Tokyo rolls. It was all tasty though. I have been to the other sushi places in Broad Ripple and I think this one is my new favorite. We had sake with dinner, but yes, they have kick butt beer specials! Give it a try.
(4)Callie F.
For land-locked sushi, this place is great! Good beer specials as well, and the coupon for checking in on Yelp was awesome! Seating was comfortable and our waitress was nice. Good selection as well.
(4)Emily L.
Sushi Chef Brus is great at making sashimi!!! Really the tastiest I had in Indiana. This place is new!! What a gem to find in the mid-west!!!! And the beer... OMG. ONE DOLLAR ONLY!?!!!!!
(5)Brandon R.
Sushi Bar - Broad Ripple is an extremely welcome addition to the strip, as an affordable (and oh-so-tasty) sushi joint. I split a boat along with three friends, and we all left stuffed. $60 for (don't quote me here, but it's along these lines) 3 rolls, 12 pieces of sashimi, 15 pieces of nigiri, and a few other random surprises! Whatever you do, don't miss this hidden gem along the Broad Ripple strip. And oh yeah, $1 domestics & $2 imports - what?! Go. Now.
(5)Karlie S.
Delicious sushi, really unique roll combinations. Service is great and who doesn't love $1 beers?? Definitely try the angel roll.
(5)Chris S.
Sush Bar-Broad Ripple was amazing. The service was right on target. My date and I stayed for 3 hours and were made to feel at home. The sushi was delicious the atmosphere was very inviting. I'll be back for sure. Can't wait till summer where I can enjoy the patio.
(4)Jacqueline I.
Been to a few Sushi joints around Indy, and this is the best so far. The basic go-to rolls are very good and the chefs also put together plenty of interesting specialty rolls. The price is not especially cheap but I think that should be expected for Sushi on Broad Ripple. Besides, the service and $2 beers easily make up for it.
(4)Carey C.
I'd place this in the upper 1/3rd of sushi places in Indy, and in the top for value. For $100 - edamame, pot stickers, 7 rolls, and 4 nigiri plus 2 x 22 oz beers. This more than filled our party of 4. The Himachi Fire and Fire-Fire rolls are delightfully spicy. Cozy inside, friendly wait staff. And the Triton Tap Room is literally next door if you desire a pre-dinner craft brew. We'll become a regular if next experience is as good.
(4)Francis F.
1$ beers. 4$ tuna rolls. Low key chill spot. What else do u need? 10$ Udon, they got it. Sushi how it should be. Fresh. Chill. Affordable.
(5)Tiffany T.
Stumbled across this restaurant (literally) one night after having a few drinks at the bars. We got some chef's choice nigiri and was AMAZED by the freshness of the fish. For the quality of sushi, the prices here are pretty low. The beer is also cheap! I will be coming back to this restaurant again and again!
(5)Bill B.
Had lunch there today. Overall very pleased. Nice selection of lunch specials, I had the 2 -roll lunch special for $6.99 with a side order of hamachi sashimi. The fish was good. I like the decor and atmosphere there. The dinner menu looked interesting, lots of variety and a large selection of appetizers. I will definitely go back again.
(4)Sarah F.
This is our go-to sushi place, mostly due to convenient location and consistent quality. The rolls are always creative and yummy, the sashimi is good, the pot-stickers are served burn-your-taste-buds-off flaming hot, and the drinks are cheap. Seriously, they are practically giving away domestics. This may not be the best sushi you will ever have in your entire life, but it will be good quality food at a fair price with attentive service in a great location.
(4)Jake B.
Excellent selection for vegetarians, with outstanding veggie sushi! Plus, the mochi ice cream is delicious! This is our date night go-to restaurant!
(5)Noah W.
The jalapeño roll is absolutely amazing, a must try. Balanced like nothing I've had yet.
(5)Emily Y.
This place is a gem. I haven't had much sushi in Indianapolis since I have been disappointed by mediocre quality and high price, but this place just became my go-to for a great sushi meal. Great sushi at a very reasonable price. Better than any other place in Indianapolis that I have tried so far. Just had rolls this time, but the menu has a large selection of both rolls and nigiri. I really think this is exactly the place Indianapolis needed: a true mom and pop sushi place where you can have a casual but excellent Japanese meal. I really hope this place sticks around, I will definitely be back on a regular basis.
(5)Chad I.
Other than the slow service the food was really good. Prices are a bit on the higher side I spent 50 dollars for me and my date but that was two meals and a couple beers. The quality of food is worth the money. Asahi beer is the way to go :) it was overall a good experience
(4)Me G.
Surprisingly good food. Fresh fish. Service a little slow but they are all nice. I would go back :)

We tried Sushi Bar last night when our usual place had a (temporary, I hope) problem with an unappetizing odor. So glad we made that decision--this place was excellent. Saturday night around 8 PM and we got a table no problem, although the restaurant was busy. Got a great two-top in front of the window that was perfect for conversation with The Huz. Our waitress was super friendly and very helpful. I asked her for her top three favorites and she asked a few follow-up questions (raw or cooked? cold or hot? fried or baked?, spicy or not?), then gave us suggestions for a variety of choices. We decided to skip the special roll with the jalapeño on it (I can't remember the name, might be Jalapeño Roll) because she said it was very spicy and that's not my thing, then Huz said I could make all the choices because he always likes what I pick. I like to spread our choices out between hot & cold plus a variety of fishes: -- Spicy Girl ($10.99) has "sword fish, white fish, crab meat, pineapple with green spicy sauce on top". The sauce didn't look green but it did have a kick and a little sourness to it as well. The bits of pineapple were a nice surprise in the bite & not overdone. The waitress recommended this one for someone who likes the level of heat to not exceed that of spicy mayo (e.g., me). -- Tokyo Roll ($10.99) has "spicy salmon, baked salmon with spicy mayo on top". The roll was topped with crunchy bits, too. It was a creamy, salmon-y taste that was very good. May have been Huz's favorite, which makes me smile because it was the only one I chose that the waitress didn't specifically recommend. -- Dynamite ($9.99) has "spicy shrimp, eel, avocado, crab meat, salmon" and is deep fried. There was spicy mayo and (I think) eel sauce on top, too. It is a wide roll but the slices are thin enough that one bite will do it. I loved all the different flavors in this one and saved this for my last bite because it was my favorite. -- Statue of Liberty ($15.99) has "crab meat, avocado, mango, baked lobster, scallop with spicy mayo on top". This one was baked & piled high with stuff, although the slices themselves weren't very big. I didn't taste the mango. It was good but not our favorite and, as the most expensive roll, had the "lowest flavor to price ratio" according to Huz. The waitress told us that the baked roll would take longer so when we ordered we asked for the rolls ready earlier to come out first, which the lady who took our paper said was a good idea. We got some edamame to eat while we waited and all of our rolls came out together 15-20 minutes after we were done with the edamame. I didn't mind at all because we were having such an enjoyable time together. As a matter of fact, I thought it was great since the restaurant was so busy and we've had horrible experiences with waiting too long for sushi at Tegry Bistro. I liked having all of the rolls at once because I like to compare the flavors. Huz drank two Kirins on special for $2 apiece, although I see in other reviews that the special price might be the regular price. That sits just fine with him. We would go back to Sushi Bar in a heartbeat. Everything was delicious and service was outstanding. Oh, and I loved saving $5 using Coupons4Indy.com .

I went back on Thursday and then again on Sunday. I can't get enough! I took my friend out to dinner on Thursday and he swears by Sakura. I could see him get anxious right before entering Sushi Bar. (I get the same way whenever I go to another Indian place that is not Shalimar) The place was packed and the service was abnormally slow. My friend wasn't interested in drinking also, so in order for him to be pleased the food had to be amazing. Anything short of amazing I was afraid he would never come back. The Tiger Roll and Statue Of Liberty Roll did it! My buddy left very satisfied. He said he's never had anything like it before. Sunday night there were maybe 2 other tables of 2, so the service was improved from Thursday mainly due to the fact they weren't busy. The quality, again, was impressive. No complaints. Each time going I like to try rolls I haven't had, but for some reason I always get the Oshinko Roll, which is basically a pickled radish in rice. It's only $3.50 for 6 pieces. Good value veggie option! Each new roll I've tried is amazing and I leave very pleased, but confused because I don't have a go to roll like I do at the other sushi restuarants I like. To make life easy, always ask about the specials and they'll bring you a hand written menu of their specials. The menu is somewhat confusing and can be frustrating, but just ask questions and one of the servers will help you out. I've been here 3 times and love it!

Tried this place for the first time Friday night. I was a little worried about a long wait (Friday night prime time), but we were promptly seated. The staff was very attentive and prompt. Food was VERY good! Excellent dumplings and the Spicy Girl roll was one of the best specialty rolls I've had anywhere! I will be going back!!
(4)Jerry W.
I love this restaurant. I've eaten here twice and both times were amazing. It is hands down the best sushi I've ever eaten. And the prices are competitive with other sushi bars. Highly recommend!
(5)Weili Z.
Decent quality. The Siu Mai does not look nor tastes like Siu Mai. The salad was drenched in dressing. The miso soup have a hint of bitter tasted but then I have very sensitive taste buds. I ordered the Chirachi bowl which lets me taste the quality of the fishes. Half of them tasted fresh. The other half was okay. So overall assessment... Eh... It's okay. Disclaimer: I'm use to the standards in NYC, and Los Angeles.
(3)Tamara Q.
pretty good for indy. the sushi has good presentation and pretty good tasting, very fresh. i wish they had outdoor seating... the restaurant just feels so dark every time i am there. very casual and can at times feel crowded
(4)Kristin S.
Love. Love. Love. Loved being able to sit by the window and people watch on a Friday night. Their bento box is killer, ambience makes for a great date night, and I highly recommend all types of their sushi. They also have a small room with a bay window where you and your party of 6-8 can sit cross legged on pillows around an oval. Pretty cool for group date night.
(4)Mary L.
Amazing. If you love sushi and haven't been here you are missing out! Best tuna I've had in the states. And people rave about $1 domestics, but I was excited for $2 imports (including Asahi, Sapporo and Kirin). Don't miss the $5 off of $20 deal here on Yelp!
(5)Jamie P.
amazing sushi! like the location as well. not too expensive!
(5)Alexandra G.
First time visitor on a Friday night. It was very busy, super cute and quaint with an expected (but not cheesy) Asian flare. One dollar domestic and two dollar imported beer (Only downfall being that they do not have a full bar-- only beer, wine, and sake) Started with a seaweed salad which was good, and ordered 2 specialty rolls and one Chicago roll. Rolls were all excellent and I'd say its the 2nd best in town. Unfortunately my 4 star (would give 3.5 if I could) comes from the incredibly SLOW, SLOW turtle-esq service. I'm generally never in a hurry to have dinner on Friday or Saturday night, but this was exceptionally slow from beginning to end. The rolls definitely made up for it, but do not ever go to this place if you're in a rush. Service was average and definitely a language barrier that is somewhat frustrating. Overall, I will definitely go back, as it's a convenient location in BR that always offers a good "scene" and great sushi.
(4)Sarah J.
We made a reservation for the private room, which was perfect. The sushi was really fresh. In fact, this was probably the best scallop roll I have had in Indianapolis. The sevice was excellent, and they were very patient with our large party. This is my new favorite!
(5)Ravi P.
Been here couple of time. Pros: 1. Location, definitely great 2. Outdoor seating, get to see party in broad ripple 3. I won't say great, but good sushi 4. Celebration roll, tiger roll are my favorites
(4)Jessica F.
Let me start by saying that I meant to take photos, but my phone was getting in the way of the sushi I was shoveling in my mouth. Sorry that I'm seriously not sorry. This sushi is so good!! Mike and I don't get to partake in my favorite food very often bc it's so crazy expensive, which, come to think of it, is silly as the majority is uncooked. But, I digress. After reading other yelp reviews, I really wanted to check this place out. It's in Broad Ripple, so I can imagine that there are times that parking would be difficult. We had no problems at 7:30 on a Friday night. The restaurant itself is small, maybe ten tables and a small, private room, in addition to the bar area. During nice weather, the seating options basically double, as they have a nice patio/deck area, too. The waitstaff are friendly and the prices are decent.

DO NOT GO HERE!!! The only redeeming thing about this restaurant was our waitress, Cindy. She tried her best to help, but despite her best efforts, we were left stunned and in disbelief at how horrible the management treated both the patrons and the wait staff. The management should be ashamed for not coming to our table to defend their decision not to take off a meal which was served at least 45 minutes after two others in our party received their meals. The worst part is the meal was not worth waiting for! It was total CHAOS! Some sushi arrived while others were forgotten. There were only four people in our party, and while waiting for sushi isn't something unusual, we have never had meals arrive in bits and pieces over a 45 minute time period! Two other parties near us had similar problems and the kitchen was blamed every time. Interestingly, one party next to us walked out and cancelled a meal that was forgotten. There were so many mix-ups and excuses and apparently many apologies that went out tonight, but little to make customers want to return. The worst part of this experience was that it cost us a lot of money! We work hard for our money but apparently the owner of this sushi bar does not recognize this. If you ignore this review and try it anyhow, just remember not to blame Cindy - she's a sweet gal who should not be cheated out of tips just because the management cowers in a corner and refuses to talk to its customers. People who came in after us and ordered after us had their food and finished eating before we even got all of our food. It was two hours of waiting with less than satisfying results. One more thing. This place looks cool on the outside, but what should matter is good, fresh food and great customer service. This had neither! Dressing-soaked salad, barely warm miso soup, warm and dried up tuna on the nigiri and Panko shrimp instead of tempura shrimp all lead me to say "yuck" and wonder if this place will one day give someone food poisoning.
(1)Jeb B.
Love this place. I go at least once a week. Has the freshest raw fish in town. Great salad. Simple but tasty rolls. Highly recommend. Lunch specials are crazy cheap by the way.
(5)Caleb L.
I've just recently gotten into sushi, and I think that Sushi Bar is definitely an excellent place to go if you love sushi. The selection is massive, which allows for you to try an array of different rolls. The rolls are massive and filling. Service was a little iffy due to it being a busy weekend. I asked for a beer and my waitress forgot and I had to get another waitress to get me the bar I asked for, but it was no big deal at all. The servers were all incredibly nice and willingly to take their time to take care of customers, even when one group was attempting to complain for the sole purpose of getting a lower check rather than paying full price. Overall, the restaurant was great, the service was great, and the food was excellent. It's a must visit for sushi lovers.
(4)Ram T.
This place has really good sushi in indy. If you are new to this place and really wanted to try, i would recommend celebration roll, tiger roll.
(5)Jon C.
A friend and I have been trying to get together for sushi lately, and we were finally able to meet up on a Friday evening. Our normal place gets packed and we knew there would be a wait, so we decided to give Sushi Bar a try. Honestly, I had never heard of it. My friend had - and knowing they took reservations - called and made one for 6:30 on a Friday night. Judging by the people waiting as we left, this was a great move on our part! I'm a big fan of wasabi tobiko and hand rolls, and I've never found a place in Indy that has the tobiko and only one place with hand rolls. Sushi Bar had both, so I gave them both a try. Wasabi tobiko is a super intense wasabi burn. Just as quickly as it hits you, it goes away. Absolutely delicious and the fact they have them will get them my return business. I went with the spicy tuna hand roll and was happy with it, but I think they went a little light on the tuna. For the price, I thought it was a bit small, but I'd give it a try once more to see if its any bigger. I'm already starting to think about that wasabi tobiko again and I'm pretty sure I'll be there again really soon.
(5)Ian B.
First time here and i was impressed. Location: Perfect spot in the heart of Broad Ripple, like most places in BR you will have to fight for parking but thats not the restaurants fault. Building: cute intimate dining. 1 large table in back for large groups and a small room up front for a private dining experience. The rest of the seating is pretty close together but not uncomfortable. And yes seating at the Sushi Bar itself ;-) Also it was very clean and well decorated. Service: greeted with a smile, was checked on repeatedly to make sure everything was good. Stayed a little extra and chatted, didnt feel pressured to leave even though they were slammed. Food:(most important) was delicious!! i stuck with just sushi but they also have bento boxes with small entire items like cooked salmon, chicken or shrimp. The sushi was fresh, presented beautifully and was amazing. i tried something new this time. the wasabi tobiko, and it was insanely good..very spicy! they have some really great special rolls and the traditional rolls as well. cooked and raw selections are very huge. They have a small but good selection of wine/beer and sake. i will definitely be coming back here in the future!!
(5)Melissa K.
I really thought I would love this place after reading Yelp reviews before going to dinner last night, but I was very underwhelmed. I only eat cooked sushi rolls- I had the New York roll and Spider roll. The portions were so small! I wish they did a more consistent/better job of saying how many rolls came with each order. I didn't know I had ordered tiny rolls. I would have ordered another (I was still starving after), but it took us almost an entire hour to get our first order! The sushi didn't have much flavor and it was served almost warm. I just wasn't a fan. Try Kona Jack's or Sushi Boss. The ambiance was cute and the service was friendly (but SLOW). There are too many other places in Indy to go to for sushi. As someone else mentioned, I'd still choose here over Naked Tchopsticks- at least Sushi Bar is clean!
(2)Melinda J.
Nice, cute place. Don't see why it's so highly ranked on Yelp, though. Coming from California, we had high expectations, and it was not what we expected. Good sushi, but just too few pieces. We had the Tiger and Statue of Liberty, both were tasty but small and skimpy. $50 bill for only 17 pieces of sushi? Ouch. Could have gotten a lot more for that in CA. Don't think we'll be back...
(3)Leah M.
Not as good as Asaka Restaurant in Castleton, but this place has a very cute ambience and is a nice and calm place to nestle in the middle of all the Broad Ripple hubbub.
(4)Vam K.
Even though I absolutely adore sushi, I'm often reluctant to get it. Often times I feel it is expensive (because of course I have to order a Sapporo or Asahi to go along with my rolls) and I find myself walking out feeling stuffed, but starving a few short hours later. But this little gem has somehow solved both of my woes. Not only do I leave satisfied and remain that way, I've found their prices to be reasonable, especially their happy hour beer prices ($2 for domestic OR import?! Count me in!). Combine that with the discount provided by yelp for a check-in and you are all set. The patio provides good people watching, and you can always hear music from triton tap room next door. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to some delicious sushi and an ice cold beer. Or three.
(5)Kim K.
It may not look like much from the outside, but their sushi is wonderful! It's my favorite sushi spot in Indy. Don't miss $2 beer Tuesday! Also, if you are in the holiday spirit, the "Christmas rolls" are dynamite!
(4)Steven M.
I went here with my GF last night. I just moved to indy on business temporarily and this was also my first time to Broad Ripple. Since I wanted to impress the lady, I do as I always do-pull out the old cell and do a comprehensive search based on ratings from urbanspoon and yelp:) This place has one of the highest ratings on both so we winged it. The inside is very comfortable with two rooms where you kneel at the tables and eat, since there are only 2 of us we were promptly seated in the center at a 2 top. The waitress greeted us and was very friendly. We decided on the celebration roll, a nigiri (salmon) a sweet potato roll, a spicy salmon, and a spicy tuna. When the food came out, Wow was all I can say. The presentation was great, and the celebration roll was absolutely amazing. It came out with seaweed salad on top, which I'm guessing was the celebratory part, and I commented to my GF that the only thing missing was the party hat. We have several sushi restaurants back home in Cincy, and this restaurant was just as good as my favorite there. We had our qualms about the prices, since many of the Cincy sushi restaurants run the whole half price sushi deal all day every day (which I've never really understood). I believe the bill was $33 dollars, which was not bad for a Saturday night dinner. Would highly recommend. I saw one of the other patrons who ordered the shrimp tempura, and it was a stack the size of a head!! Great food, decent value, highly recommended.
(5)Naser A.
I'd say after trying couple of sushi places in Indy. By far this is the best of them. I enjoyed trying the Birthday sushi and the Tiger sushi. For appetizer we got fried calamari, and edemami - highly recommended. Ended up our night with their mochi icecream If you are a sushi fan, this is the place in Indy!
(4)Neda B.
Even though I usually like this place , they rushed us out, salmon Nigiri had scales on it and tasted fishy. I was very Disappointed.
(2)Nicole L.
Tried the vegetable udon, and three rolls: Twins, Christmas and Alaska. All 3 we're awesome but the Christmas roll was the star. Vegetable udon was a little light on the vegetables, but still delicious. The service was super quick, especially for a sushi place, and despite all of the great reviews and the fact that it was a Friday night, I didn't have to wait hours for a table. Also, the atmosphere was super relaxed. They weren't trying too hard the way a lot of other sushi places seem too. This is medium priced, super delicious sushi place. It's the best I've been to in Indy so far, I would definitely recommend trying it if you're a sushi fan.
(5)Shane M.
The first shushi place I tried when I moved to indy and I have yet to find somewhere better. Having lived on the east coast for 20+ years I have high expectations for sushi and this place lived up to it. Very traditional and a great atmosphere. The chef special is always a good buy and their warm saki is great.
(5)Meredith S.
Good, reasonably priced sushi. Much better in terms of bang for your buck than any other sushi place in the area. Boyfriend and I got cucumber, asparagus, spicy tuna, salmon, and yellow fin rolls and they were all excellent! We ordered for carry-out, so I can't comment on the inside of the restaurant or drink specials, but the sushi was delicious and I think we only paid around $20. Definitely will be back whenever another sushi craving hits!
(4)Dan C.
This is my favourite restaurant. I come here for lunch all the time for their $10 special, 3 rolls +soup/salad. But its also great at dinner. The staff now remember me and are very friendly and thoughtful enough to always bring out hot green tea for me without asking. That kind of service always wins me over. And Blind Owl Brewery sucks because it took us 1hr20mins after sitting down and ordering to discover they couldnt even knock out a burger and a salad. Luckily, after BOB leaves you stranded at 10:30pm on a Friday night, Sushi Bar is open til 11:30pm with sushi and $2 beers ready to feed you! A+
(5)Polly S.
Not to be missed if you're in the Broad Ripple neighborhood. Cute and cozy Japanese ambiance and tasty sushi. The kids we were with enjoyed the Jaguar roll. We ordered multiple rolls and the presentation of them together was pleasing. Service was great. The $2 beer deal is the best in town. I think it's funny that it's listed as an all day happy hour special (i.e. basically beers are $2 all the time?).
(5)Sara H.
My go to sushi joint. The sushi itself is always well cut, fresh, and well priced. I also recommend the seaweed salad and the hot green tea. The servers are nice and the outdoor seating is perfect on a nice day.
(5)M. L.
While the food was pretty good, I will not be returning. We arrived 20 minutes before closing and were informed they would be closing soon but to have a seat. From that point on was a constant barrage of pressure to order, eat, pay, and get out, including staff standing and staring at us with arms crossed while we ate and the waitress literally taking plates out from under us while we were eating off of them. As we left, I checked the time, we left 7 minutes after closing. I asked the manager why she sat us if she did not actually want us to eat there, her response was, "next time come earlier". There will not be a next time.
(1)Jeremy B.
Was our first time here and couldn't be happier with what we got. Sushi was excellent and service was as well. We will definitely be back.
(5)Marvi B.
I am relatively new to the world of sushi. I've had some of the best sushis in Chicago so naturally developed a taste for it. Tried some places in Indy but was not very impressed. We randomly discovered sushi bar one fine evening of March 2014. After having their sushi, our taste buds have truly converted! There can't be any weekend that we are together and we don't go to sushi bar. Absolutely in love with Tokyo and tiger roll, a must must recommend!
(5)Mark V.
I've just found this spot a few months ago, and I'm quite glad I did! Very good sushi rolls at very reasonable prices. Also for fans of the beer, they have an all day happy hour! The yelp check in deal is really nice too, $5 off of $20 so you can order even more rolls and not feel like you will have to go down the street and beg for change to pay the difference! The only negative isn't anything to do with them, but the location requires you to park on the street at one of those ever pesky metered spots. They like to ticket people because they are evil so make sure to pay for the parking spot!
(5)Ron R.
So I've been here twice now. Once when it first opened and had a great time...and this weekend which marks a bit over 2 years now for this little place and it was excellent once more. I had two of their specialty rolls. Celebration Roll and Jalapeno Roll....both were HUGE...but at $13 a pop...that is what I'd expect. If you are a purist, don't worry, they had smaller rolls as well such as the typical California, Spicy Tuna, Philly and so on for much more reasonable prices like 5.99-8.99. I always find myself wanting to try extravagant rolls however so what I ended up with was: A roll with slightly seared Tuna with cucumber, avocado and a seaweed salad topping along with another roll that had Salmon, Jalapeno, spicy sauce, along with a slab of tuna on top and diced bits of onion and more jalapeno. Both rolls were fantastic...the heat on the jalapeno roll crept up quickly that I was very happy to have another roll to balance out the heat. My girlfriend got the Seafood Udon bowl and loved the broth and the noodles, however she was unhappy with the seafood. While we can tell things are fresh there, the seafood was rubbery and overcooked (most likely because it is sitting in a boiling hot Udon Bowl). Normally when we eat at Japanese places she gets the Udon bowl and does not have this complaint, so I'm not sure what happened different here. So that was unfortunate and I'm sure she would rate this place lower...but for me, it was a great experience. There will be a 3rd visit in my future. :)

Give it up for THE best sushi spot in Broad Ripple! The once-violin shop has grown into a thriving sushi bar on the village strip. - Minimal, modern, and comfortable interior with a small sushi bar and dining room. - Quiet. Great for independent diners, romantic dates, or professional lunch outing. - Lunch special - two rolls and soup/salad for $6.99! Pretty much everything on their lunch menu is under $10. Me likey. - Fresh, clean, and very yummy! For Indiana, this is up there. - Staff is usually pretty quiet. Not sure why. Attentive though. - HUGE selection of rolls! Like a kid in a candy store...except the candy is raw fish and seaweed. - Parking does suck in the area. I would suggest parking near the canal and walking over. You'll need a walk after you stuff your face full of sushi. If you're living in Broad Ripple, it's nice and easy to walk here for some rolls and a beer. If not, sad face for you. Miss you, Sushi Bar!
(5)Karlie C.
I recently went back to Broad Ripple for a weekend and knew I couldn't leave without going to Sushi Bar. Even after living in Chicago, I haven't had better sushi than what I've gotten at Sushi Bar! Great service. I always love sitting at the counter and watching them prepare it. I haven't tried a roll I didn't like but I definitely suggest the Tiger Roll. Cheap beer too and close to all the Broad Ripple night life right on the strip!
(5)Anna L.
We braved the Valentine's Day snowstorm to Sushi Bar situated in the hullabaloo of Broad Ripple on a dead quiet Friday evening. This place was packed upon entering! Rather than wait for a table to clear up, we sat at the bar to watch the sushi chefs for some entertainment. These guys are pros rolling, stacking, chopping...faster than a machine. We ordered a sushi combo set (soft shell crab, spicy tuna, and eel) that comes with miso soup + salad (better deal than ordering 3 separate maki rolls) and a plate of sushi to share. If you're up for raw, the mackerel (saba) and fluke (hirame) nigiri are fabulous. You could still see the silver sheen of the mackerel skin meaning it's as fresh as can be. The fish cut was generous too. The fluke was wonderful especially with the cilantro lime garnish atop which worked really well to enhance the flavor. Cooked rolls were so-so, but I don't like my fish cooked anyways. It'd be nice if they had a flash-fried option with raw fish still in the center. Service was a tad bit slow, but it's expected for a Friday evening. Even better, make sure to check in on Yelp to get $5 off $20 purchase! $40 for 2 people & quality sushi. Not bad at all!

After craving sushi for, literally months, we decided to stop in the the Sushi Bar - Broad Ripple. This intimate, unsuspecting sushi bar provided for an excellent session of sampling fresh cuts of fish and sipping sake. Here's what went down: The ambiance: one word that comes to mind is 'homey,' it feels as though we are being welcomed into someone's Broad Ripple Avenue house to enjoy their Japanese delicacies. Maybe that's what it really is? The food: was spectacular for where we are globally located. I frequently avoid seafood restaurants that are this far in from the coast, I have to say that the cuts here of Tuna, Yellow Tail, and Sweet Shrimp are delightfully fresh. Very good rice base, as well. I went with the Sushi Bar Special One - four rolls and five standard servings of tuna, yellow tail, shrimp, salmon; a great portion that is accompanied with Miso soup and a salad (next time I will get a side of Japanese noodles, they are excellent). The drinks: the sake was pretty good - not the best I've ever had, but it was the house, which was exceptionally priced ($7). The beer menu also peaked my interest - can you say $2 imports? Oh yeah, next time I'll be enjoying one with my sushi. The service: I felt very well taken care of here, the wait staff is very attentive to your needs are are frequently stopping by to make sure everything is satisfying. I appreciate the attention to detail. This is one of the best places I've gotten sushi in Indy. Excellent food, authentic feel, reasonable prices; let's just say, it's worth it's salt. See you next time the cravings hit, Sushi Bar.

Looks like I have a new favorite sushi place. Shame on me for taking so long to try it. There are plenty of delicious, reasonably priced rolls - I got the spicy salmon and philly rolls, but everything sounded good. Ginger salad was great. Add the cozy atmosphere and attentive servers and you have a winner of a sushi spot in Broad Ripple.

Favorite sushi in Indy. Important things to consider when dining at a sushi restaurant : cleanliness, variety, and freshness of ingredients. Sushi Bar executes all of the above with an affordable price as an added bonus. Not only can you watch your sushi being made, you're also provided a great view of Broad Ripple which is ideal for people watching or admiring the localness of the area. For the vegetarians or those not adventurous enough to try the eel they have the biggest selection of veggie rolls that I've ever seen in Indy. Whether it's a leisurely Saturday evening dinner or a quick lunch with a coworker on Tuesday Sushi Bar always pleases the palette. P.S. - try the asparagus tempura roll

Great place for a date! The sushi was really good and there was no scrimping on the number of options. Went with the spicy shrimp and spinach and was very pleased. Not into sushi? There is a lot more you ca indulge in to!

If you're looking for good quality sushi with fresh fish and rice that is well cooked with great texture, this is the place to go. If you're looking for spectacular service, this isn't the place for you. My waitress never handed me the sushi paper to order from after I sat down. After asking for it, she gave me an attitude saying I already had it, then realized I didn't, then let out a HUGE sigh and dropped the paper in front of me to only walk away. Sorry, am I bothering YOU? Honestly, I never expect good service when it comes to these types of establishments -just good food and that is what I had. Everything was fresh, reasonably priced, and presented nicely. I would definitely come back!

This sushi is the best you can get in Indianapolis! Great location, always made with care, and awesome service! We got the birthday roll and the jaguar roll, both very good for a more cooked sushi option. Tiger roll is also very very good.

I cannot understand why this place has a decent rating. I was very unimpressed with the selection of rolls and even more unimpressed by the quality. Their spicy tuna is basically mashed up fancy feast, in taste and texture. Service was just "meh" and the prices aren't bad. I won't be going back! I'd rather drive downtown to 45 degrees than suffer through another meal here.

Sushi Bar was a wonderful place to start a night of partying. Service was efficient and helpful and the sushi was some of the best I've had. Highly recommended.

I adore this generically-named little place. My husband and I made a trek to Indy to get sushi since there's no decent places within 50 miles of our little town. We went to our regular spot, Asaka in Castleton, only to be shunned by the staff (see my scathing review). We drove to Broad Ripple to find something... anything. The neon sign spelling out "Sushi Bar" grabbed our attention and we both said "Good enough." The warm welcome and immediate seating we got upon arriving was enough to give this place 5 stars after the Asaka ridiculousness, but the sushi was fantastic and very reasonably priced, and OMG, the huge glass of Moscato they brought me made the entire night worth it. We will most definitely be back.

Had their lunch special and it was a great deal three rolls and miso soup or salad. The two dollar beer is a great deal as well.

Always consistent. Good miso. $2 imports. What else do I need to say. My only complaint is that you have to be proactive about getting drinks. But this may have to do with the rate that Heineken disappears around me. But again: $2 imports, so I can't really complain.

Went again last night for a late snack. Got our rolls on soy paper this time. Both the rolls and fish were top-rate. Well presented for a to-go order as well! Friendly place but, I just can't get over the fish. I think they should change the name to Sushi Crack! ;)

For sushi in the broad ripple area look no further than sushi bar. Despite the lack of a name or a fancy sign, the food does not disapooint. As an unagi frequent, I generally can compare apples to apples from bar to bar. The roll is served the perfect temperature and ratios of the elements of meat to rice, and the avocado is always perfectly ripe. Compared to the sub par American fusion naked tchopstix or overly hip H2O sushi down the road, this is the place to be! their lunch special is bomb! go try it yourself.

I may be the last person left on this earth to not "loooooooooove sushi!!" but alas, I find myself betrothed to someone who can't get enough of the stuff. So, from time to time, it means I must find myself being "that person" at a sushi bar that doesn't want anything to do with sushi. Maybe someone out there understands this dilemma... However, if I'm going to accompany him on his sushi adventures, I'm happy to come here. There are plenty of other noodle dishes here to satisfy my tastes. I can't comment on how great the sushi is, because I have a feeling I'd turn my nose up at Jiro's famous sushi. I can tell you that my fiance ate enough sushi for two people and loved every minute of it. So if you're not a "sushi person", you'll still enjoy coming here for a bite to eat with friends.

Good sushi with plenty of choices. They claim to have happy hour all the time with $2 beer prices but the real deal is the HUGE glasses of wine! I would definitely come back for lunch if I'm in town.

Just a pit stop for the ladies in our group to grab a quick bite to soak up all those cranberry Grey Gooses. It's tiny, but clean, and the food comes out quick. The staff didn't even give us dirty looks for coming in six minutes before closing or spit in the food! Yay! Onward...

Tiger roll is my homie! And it's always very easy to get in and out. Great beer prices - wish the sake was more reasonable but, the rolls quality and variety more than make up for it.

This is my favorite Sushi restaurant in Indy. I frequent here too much to admit, but its always good. Try the Tiger Roll!

Disclaimer: for me, sushi is basically sushi. I've never really distinguished "good sushi" vs "bad sushi." I like it. I liked Sushi Bar. I thought it had a vast & creative menu with rolls I had not seen before. We shared the Tiger, Spicy Girl & Chicago. Tiger was our favorite. Can't beat the $5 coupon for checking in on Yelp. Also, the wine was $4-5 for a glass, and they provided a very generous pour which I always appreciate. Thumbs up to our server on that front.

Subpar sushi small rolls. We got 4 rolls, but I don't think they were right. Miso soup and salad were disappointments as well.

For the price this place is very good. But I just can't get past the service issues. On a previous visit after we were seated they came out with a mop and bucket and started mopping the floor under our seats. Today I was there a few minutes after they opened and was told that they don't start service until 20 minutes after they open. What restaurant opens at 11:30 but doesn't start service until 11:50?

Firstly, let me say that I'm from Hawaii and there was an abundance of fresh fish around me so going to college and moving to Indy made me judge sushi restaurants to the extreme. I got a couple of rolls and they were absolutely amazing. On top of that I got some nigiri sushi and it was comparable to the stuff I get at home. The restaurant is pretty small but I like that kind of atmosphere. The service was great. The waitress hardly spoke English so don't expect them talk about what they recommend. The only thing that kinda sucked which is totally not in their control was the parking. Good luck finding parking around broad ripple on a Friday or the weekend. All and all it was my first time there and they were amazing. Good food, good service and good atmosphere. I am totally coming back and brining all my friends.
