Tried their double entree for $9 with the spicy rice add on for $1. It comes with a half tandoori naan. I selected egg curry and chicken tikka (they call it tikki for some reason). The egg curry was tasty. Their chicken tikka I have always held has less cream than required and a slight excess of tomato purée. Apart from that it was filling and enjoyable. Having the 10% off on yelp made the experience even sweeter.

Great Indian/Southeast Asian spot in the City Market with a mix of traditional favorites and some modern takes. The whole menu is delicious but my favorite is the Naan tacos. Not the biggest bargain in the world but you definitely get a fresh, flavorful meal for your money.

Adding Spice Box to my list of City Market faves! Recently stopped in and had an awesome lunch. The service was top notch. I forgot the guys name, but he was so pleasant and not to mention adorable! I mean, you just don't get service like that often. The menu was pretty fascinating. They offered a variety of Indian fare including more traditional items such as spicy shrimp or chicken tiki. They also offered unique creations such as the Naan wrap, tandoori shrimp tacos, and the Bombay box which consists of spiced rice, chicken, and egg. I absolutely love naan, so I just had to try the Naan wrap with shrimp and an Indian soda, Limca. All and in it cost me $11 and some change. Not too bad. There was an up charge for the shrimp. After a fairly short wait, I received my food and was ready to dig in. I love that someone took the time to handwrite "It's all about that spice" on the inside of the take out container. Too cute! Now time to eat! I was hooked after one bite! The combination of shrimp, salad, and Indian sauce wrapped in warm Naan was purely delicious. I was so disappointed when my food was gone. It was so light, and I wanted more! This place is absolutely fantastic!! I know there are some pretty incredible places to eat at City Market. I can't recommend enough taking a break from your favorite spot and checking out Spice Box. I'm excited about my next visit. Those tandoori tacos are already calling my name!!

I was somewhat disappointed with the food, but the service was good. I have several friends that really like Spice Box and I really wanted to like it as well. However, I've tried it twice now and both times I was underwhelmed by the food. The first time I tried it was at the City Market and I had the special, which was garlic lamb. It was recommended by the man taking my order and assured me that it had a bit of a spiciness to it. When I got the food and took the first bite, I remember thinking how extremely dry it was. The flavor was decent, not great. For the price of the food, I felt like it was not nearly as good as the man suggested. My second experience was with the food truck and I was hoping it would redeem the first. They only had a couple options and I believe mine was called the "spice box", or something with "box" in the title. When I got it, it reminded me of Yat's, but not quite as good. It had rice with a sauce on it with some naan served on the side. Again, I was underwhelmed by the flavor and still found it dry despite the sauce on it. The service was always friendly, but considering all of the other options that are typically around the food truck as well as in City Market, I would rather go with something that I know for sure I am going to like.

I don't like to pass out 5 stars to just anyone, seriously. But After several lunchtime visits to Spice Box in the city market, I wasn't able to dock them for a single thing! The Food - AMAAAAZING! it's fresh, modern, hot, perfectly portioned, and it visits you in your dreams the following night. I'm partial to the Chicken Tikki and the Naan wrap. After eating at Spice Box, you don't feel guilty or tired, you feel refreshed and ready to go tackle the rest of your day. The Service - Just as amazing as the food! Every time I've been here, I've not only been greeted with a smile, I've also been given expert and unique recommendations on things to try or add to my food. That kind of service really helps mix things up and always keeps things new and exciting.

One of the best things about being a gamer is GenCon Indianapolis--a four-day mecca of all things nerdy, attended annually by 55,000 gamers from places all over the world. And, of course, all of those gamers have to eat! In recent years, GenCon has called upon the numerous food trucks in and around the Indianapolis area to provide some awesome food options for tho hungry gamers. And, without fail, they've been a massie hit. This time around, I got a chance to sate my list for Indian food at Spice Box, the food truck arm of an Indy institution. And, while the food was great,I did have some minor quibbles. Meal speed was a thing of precision and clockwork. Despite the long lines at all of the food trucks at GenCon, I had ordered and received my meal in less than 10 minutes. Admittedly my order was not too complex: chicken Tikka, rice, and some roti, but speed is definitely appreciated. The food itself was fiery and delectable. The rice was properly cooked and the chicken had a wonderful afterburn that left my mouth tingling. However, there simply wasn't enough chicken or sauce to actually cover my rice. Further, the one half-slice of roti that cae with the meal was just not enough to make a good accompaniment. Spice Box was tasty but their portion size just doesn't level ouout againsagainst the cost. Give me a full serving of curry and two pieces of roti, and this would be a four or five star review!

I had never had Indian food until Spice Box. My first experience was the food truck from a recommendation by a friend. I got the naan wrap. SO good! I quickly realized that it was faster to go to the city market to grab something from them and there's always a full menu. I also like the walk to work off any awesome food I eat. I finally got to share this wonderful place with my husband at the Sun King Anniversary Party. He loved it!! I see a lot more Spice Box trips in my future.

The Spicebox was the first Indian food I had ever eaten. After eating here I decided that I would not try Indian food again. I wish I had nice things to say about the food but I thought it was awful. Everything was dry and overcooked and used way too much curry. Thank goodness a friend has since convinced me to try Indian cuisine at other restaurants. I love Indian food now. However, I will not try Spicebox again.

I am a huge fan of the food truck so I was absolutely thrilled to find Spice Box in City Market. I'm a vegetarian, and Spice Box offers several vegetarian entrees. I stood in front of the menu for several minutes in wonder, considering all of my options. I decided on the palak paneer, a delicious spinach dish. The spicy rice was perfect and the naan was very tasty. The food is seasoned just perfectly, portions are generous and very reasonably priced. Service is very fast and friendly. I work downtown and plan to become a regular customer. Thanks, Spice Box, you have given me a reason to stop my usual practice of eating lunch at my desk.

I liked Spice Box. It didn't really wow me with the flavors, and I just didn't seem to get a lot of food. I kinda felt like I was left wanting. I've tried the mango lassi, and the was pretty delicious, so maybe I'll go back for that at some point.

First time to Indy and first time trying spice box.. Both have been a success! I got the Chana and chicken tikki both were super bomb. The employee who was helping me decide on what I should get let me try the egg curry, unusual combo but surprisingly delicious! Awesome sport and rad employees. Deff a place to hit up while at the city market :)

Hopefully Spice Box in the city market sticks around, because it's an excellent place for a vegetarian and/or vegan lunch stop. Aloo Gobi and Chana are a great combination with spicy rice and some naan. It's ready fast and it's super tasty. The guy working there for Brew Bracket last weekend was really helpful and nice - he explained some of the recipes and chatted with me about the food while I was waiting. Love it!

What a great option to have in the city market. I actually like their palak paneer better than the Indian restaurants I usually go to. I like that there is a spicy rice option, but I think it's spicy as in seasoned, not as in burn your lips, at least to me. I had the spicy shrimp yesterday for lunch and I will definitely do it again. The service is great too, as the owner is the one taking your order and welcomes everyone with a smile. If you've never tried Indian, just start with the chicken tikki; I don't see how anyone can not like this dish. One entree for seven, two for nine, and there are specialty dishes in that range as well. One day, skip the pizza or burger, and try this out instead! Lots of flavor and probably a bit healthier than most of the stuff at the market.

The only thing better than the Spice Box food truck is Spice Box available every day! Since the Spice Box opened at City Market, I find myself drawn to their CM location... it kind of feels like I'm cheating on the food truck, you know? They do have a standard menu at the City Market, which makes it easier for vegetarians - they always have the Palak Paneer, Channa, and Aloo Gobi. The staff does a great job keeping orders moving and they are easily equipped to meet the high demand. I'm always impressed to see a long line every time I'm there - I'm happy to see so many other enjoying the Spice Box. Ask for the sauce (I can never remember the name...) with the Aloo Gobi. It is delightful.

I wanted to like this place a lot. The idea is sound... Rice covered with tasty Indian entree foodstuffs. Unforunately, they failed on a few counts: 1) Peas in the Palak Paneer. Peas are a deal breaker, and were not advertised. 2) The rice was dried out and hard in places. 3) I added an egg (which is a cool option), but it was so overly cooked that the yolk disintegrated into powdery crumbles. I would maybe go back for the chicken, but I think I could find other options at the market that I like better.

Thank goodness there are at least a few good Indy food trucks. Spice Box's small menu is fresh and unique. I guarantee you will like everything on it.

Really not getting a lot of food for the money at this place....and the quality is lacking. I was excited to hear that there was an Indian place in the market but I was disappointed when I paid over $10 and received a tiny helping of food that was very low quality. Worst Indian food I've had. For about the same price you can eat at India Garden buffet just down the street.

I have had the absolute delight of having these fine folks as neighbors at the City Market for several months now and couldn't love them more for it! Not only are they just an all around group of awesomeness (yes we are making up words here to describe such cool cats), but they are dedicated toward making the most heavenly Indian cuisine. I have yet to be disappointed by anything off their menu...be that warm, crispy naan bread, spicy egg cury, or any of their sumptuous wraps. I highly recommend partaking of this little oasis and will continue to dine here as long as they are around!

Yes I love Indian food and I've already tried the food truck. It's nice to see they have a permanent location at City Market. It was brunch-time so I tried the egg curry and it really hit the spot on a cold day. 2 whole hard boiled eggs covered wtih slightly spicy curry over rice. If you're not into mixing breakfast and Indian, Chicken Tikka is a safe staple. 2 entrees was plenty to share, especially if you grab some dessert from another City Market stand!

Got the Tandoori Tacos. They were very good. Would have asked for less onions or picked a few off. The onions ended up being the strongest flavor and while I like onions, I wanted to taste the other things more. I'm motivated to recreate something like this at home - couldn't do it exactly I'm sure. I loved the crispy outside of the taco. I think that I would have preferred to pay about $8 for what I got. Almost $10 after taxes without even a tip was a little high. It came to $9.81. Anyway, I would definitely go back and try something else! Staff was really friendly & helpful.

Yes, it is in the City Market. Thank you, Spice Box, for being brave enough to join the "lunch" biz. I know the CM bosses want to promote the other hours, but it's 11-2 in the CM so make the most of it. I had your Chicken Tikki with the spicy rice. Well, my experience with Indian cuisine comes mostly from my annual trips to London. Your variation on Chicken Tikka is right up there with the best. Mom's recipe I am guessing. Cannot wait to try another offering. The CM is a tough room. 11-2 is your window. Better traffic on Summer Wednesdays with the Farmers market. Hang in there!

LOVE spicebox. This place is a food truck and has a permanent location in City market. Friendly servers, perfect amount of seasoning, not overly rich like some Indian dishes. Their grilled naan is amazing as well. Love this place!

I tried Spice Box for lunch today for the first time and came away very impressed. I had the two entrée for $9 deal (one goes for $7), which comes with plain or spiced (for a dollar extra) basmati rice and a piece of naan. For my entrees I had the Chicken TIkka and the Spicy Shrimp, which were both excellent. I was also given a small container of green sauce that looked like mint sauce but was much spicier and very good on the rice. What a great place for an Indian lunch.... they also have a variety of wraps which I hope to start sampling soon. Great place!

Inside the Farmer's Market, on the wall. The seating is food court style for all restaurants. The chicken with onions in a wrap is really, really tasty! It comes with a sauce that brings the whole thing together. I wanted to put it on everything. The spice rice is definitely worth the dollar extra! They've got some smaller market bottles sodas and beers on tap. The man behind the counter was courteous and helpful. I am certainly going back for seconds.

As a recent vegetarian, I was looking for a good Indian place for a quick lunch while visiting on business from Atlanta. I got the vegetarian wrap which was delicious! The staff is very helpful and friendly and the prices are reasonable. Great find!

The problem with Spice Box is that I always want MORE. I don't know if the portions are small or I'm not ordering enough food, or maybe I just have a very healthy appetite when it comes to eating really tasty food. My meal just always seems to end with me staring at an empty tray thinking, "is that it?" At least Spice Box has become more accessible since opening the new City Market Location. I really love Indian food and Spice Box does the trick when I'm wanting to quench my Indian-tooth without going to a buffet or sit-down restaurant. Everything I have tried has been very good and the staff at the counter were very friendly. I really appreciate it when someone offers to explain the dishes, especially when you're ordering a foreign cuisine. I really wish the best for Spice Box and think it's a perfect addition to the food offerings at City Market.

I tried this place yesterday for lunch. It is not authentic Indian after having my first meal here. I order saag with naan and rice. It was just ok. Will try their Bombay wrap some say, wish it will give me some authentic taste. Keep it up guys !

I got to try out Spice Box food truck at Yelp's totally bazaar event at the Central Library. My review is based of a single visit, but I think I can say that Spice Box is a good choice for Indian food. I ordered the spice box with the vegetarian entree and naan. I understand it comes with rice & naan, but they were out of rice (strange!) They offered extra naan instead, they also had roti available instead of naan. The owner told me they get their naan & roti from Devon street in Chicago (or Diwan street for those in the know - south asian shopping/business district) The chana masala which is a vegan entree was surprisingly good! I'd expected an americanized version - bland and lacking spices. But it was very flavorful, the spices were well balanced and appealed to my palate. The food truck seemed to be serving a smaller menu that night, which makes sense given the nature of the event but the owner told me they have a more extensive menu which is 50% vegetarian in their city market location. I'm looking forward to trying more items of their menu - their indian tacos sound intriguing. I'll have to make a trip to city market soon. The value for money is hard to beat, entree with naan ~ 7$ for a quick filling meal.

In City Market you have a lot of opportunities to try local and international flavors. Don't miss out on Spice Box for quick and very delicious Indian food. Their Chicken Tikka and their Channa are the best versions of those dishes in the city. Every meal comes with rice + naan. The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and the naan is so good you could count it as dessert. There's always plenty of seating on the second level of City Market for a more relaxed lunch with great people watching.
