Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I'm a bit surprised by the some of the bad reviews. We had an awesome experience here. First of all it's true Tex-Mex. I'm from Texas and miss this style of Mexican food. We ordered the Salsa Verde's own Dip with Chips as an appetizer. It's made with ground beef, pico de gallo and white cheese. The taste was spot on however I did think that it was a tad bit runny but still full of flavor. For dinner I ordered Carne Asada con Camarón. (Beef fajita seasoned meat and shrimp) The menu description is as follows: Grilled skirt steak topped with grilled shrimp, tossed on garlic butter and served with rice, beans, fresh garnishes and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. One of the garnishes are nopalitos. If you are unfamiliar with that it's cactus and when prepared right it is delicious. We LOVED it. It has the appearance and texture of green beans but tastes so much better. There was also pico de gallo on the dish and it was fresh and tasted bright. I've never been a fan of beans but my boyfriend thought they were great. The rice was standard. The skirt steak and shrimp shined. They were both marinated well and very tasty. My boyfriend ordered the Burrito Fajita with grilled chicken wrapped in a large flour tortilla and covered with cheese, red and green sauce. Served with rice, lettuce and pico de gallo. He really loved it. I'm not sure I'd order anything else. It really was a great meal.

First impressions this is a great Neighborhood restaurant with a friendly staff, delicious food and colorful atmosphere. Prices seem on pair and quality seems above avarage.

This was a really nice little place. Very clean, appears to be a family operation, and the food is delicious. The format is slightly different than that of most Mexican restaurants around here but I actually prefer this. You order at the counter when you come in and they deliver the food to your table. Yes, you have to pay for your chips and salsa but get over it because that just means the quality is better. I had the chicken tacos (adventurous, I know) and they were FANTASTIC. The complimentary salsa bar has everything your little heart might desire to add to your meal. I also did buy the chips, salsa, and guacamole which was all very tasty. I recommend checking it out.

We decided to treat ourselves to lunch last Friday and opted to stop in at Salsa Verde. It had caught our eye for a while, so why not? We weren't really sure what to expect, as Mexican restaurants on the west side can be either good or really bad (most in Avon are the latter). When we walked in, the first thing that came into mind as far as the format was that it is sort of like a Mexican Fudruckers. You order at the counter (the lady working the counter was friendly and helpful) and they have a large salsa and condiment bar and they bring out your food when it is ready. The lunch platters include a fountain soda and they have a number of domestic and import beers. The menu is very extensive and they have a number of combo platters (all $7.99). I opted for the enchilada combo with one red and one green. Ryan had the enchiladas mole. We also got an order of chips and salsa for $1.99. The chips were plentiful and the house salsa was solid. We also sampled several from the salsa bar including the habanero and the spicy tomatillo. The habanero was a bit too smoky for my taste, but the tomatillo was amazing. The platters came out pretty quickly and included the entree, refried beans, Mexican rice and lettuce with sour cream. We both felt our enchiladas were very good. The beans and rice, however, were very bland and the rice seemed to be of low quality (looked like they had just made a batch of rice and mixed in a vegetable medley). The meal was enjoyable. Not the best Mexican I've ever had, but definitely not the worst.

Their salsa bar is a draw for me. Get what you want when you want it. No need to wait for a server. Owners are very friendly, it's a family oriented place. If you like Mexican food this is your place. Generous helpings as well.

Went back and was given run around for 30 min. Why food wasn't ready...after asking three times, we took our refund and left. Won't return!

Fresh and made to order. Think of a traditional sit down quality restaurant with fast food speed of service. I loved the Carne Asada con Camarón: Grilled skirt steak topped with grilled shrimp, tossed on garlic butter and served with rice, beans, fresh garnishes and your choice of corn or flour tortillas for only $12.99. Partner your entree with a guacamole appetizer served in a stone bowl and tips. Recommended. Salsa Verde also has a salsa bar where you can add to your creation. Plenty of choice to choose from including pickled carrots, radishes, lime infused onions, and a host of salsa varieties. Our party also had the Nachos Supremos, Enchiladas Mexicanas, Pollo Asado con Arroz, Torta Ahogada, and the Tacos de Pescado Chipotle. All menu items as well as the $5.99 margaritas were exceptional. The staff were prompt, friendly, and attentive. TV's in the dining room, seating for about 50 and ample bar are nice features as well.

Very good place. This is very authentic mexican food with authentic flavors and dishes. Their margaritas are awesome, two thumbs up for the pozole and their tostadas. Plus the service at 100% and personel are very friendly and polite. im very impressed of how clean this place is. I will definately be back im sold for the taste, service, quality and cleaningness.

First off, when you walk in and they ask if you've been here before and have to explain how things work is strike one. There were three of us there for the first time. Food was VERY bland. I've lived in CA and TX and this is what you'd expect up in MN (no flavor). Salsa bar is pretty big, but the little cups they give you are tiny. Margaritas tasted artificially flavored. Refried beans completely pureed and were not warm by the time we got our food (which was actually pretty quick). Salsa that came with the chips you have to order and pay for was also mild and bland. I won't be back. I expect when I'm back in IN later this year visiting this place won't be in business. Do yourself a favor and go to Chipotle. Maybe even Taco Bell. The only nice thing I have to say is it was clean and the service was decent.

Although you have to pay for their chips and salsa, I love their main dishes and the ambiance. Their ceviche is my favorite and totally recommend it. I wish they would make it a chain.
(5)Robert R.
I really like this place a lot. Not just Tex Mex. The pastor tacos are my favorite. The lengua is tasty as well.
(4)Jenene L.
Thought this place might be a nice addition to a few of the Mexican restaurants out in Avon. Nope. You have to walk up to place your order. Food was bland. Salsa bar is okay but the tiny cups you use for self serve are ridiculous. If you'd like a bowl of salsa, the same kind you can get at the free salsa bar, that's .50 cents folks. This joint is a step above Taco Bell and not worth the price.

First time visiting this establishment, I always try the Carnitas when trying out a new Mexican restrurant, feel if the Carnitas are done proper, then the rest of the food must be good. They were, in my opinion ok, have had better, these were a little on the dry side, and a few fatty pieces. My wife had two Enchilada Salsa Verde, one chicken, the other cheese, mentioned the chicken was a bit dry, but really liked the sauce, and how the corn tortillas were very good. Will definitely revisit and try something different.

This is a new place and we went to try them out...not too impressed. Low on flavor and seasonings. When I think of authentic Mexican, I think loads of seasoning - which I love! I will say that the tacos are a great deal. Do NOT get the steak, though. It was so dry that I couldn't eat it. Get the chicken or shredded beef as they were marinated and in a delicious juicy sauce. We haven't been back yet, but I would just for those two tacos.

Finally found a delicious authentic place! They have all of my favorites including pasole and mole. Nice fresh, non greasy food. Definitely going to be a regular here. :)

Weird concept...like trying to mix Taco Bell with a traditional Mexican restaurant. You order and pay at the front door, then sit down and wait for your food to be delivered. Price...not too bad. Chimi with stewed beef, rice, and beans was 7.99 and included the drink. Food: no chips and salsa at the table, which is what you expect at Taco Bell, not at a traditional Mexican restaurant. As for the Chimi, it was so salty and bland I couldn't stomach it. Everyone in my party mentioned the food was bland. When they picked up four plates which less than half the food was eaten off each plate, they didn't ask if anything was wrong... Recommendation: I really believe they are trying to compete in the fast food space here. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place. Save yourself the disappointment and hit the Taco Bell instead.

In addition to the full menu, there are 12 platters priced at $7.99 all day which include sides. There is a free well stocked toppings bar with a dozen items to add to your plate. Alcohol served. I came on Wednesday, half price appetizer day. (Tues is $1 tacos, Thursday $5 Tortas)

Beyond words. The feel of the store is uplifting. The staff is more than accommodating and polite. The food is everything a mexican restaurant should be. Churros and choriqueso is a must. Will be back any time im craving mexican :)

Pro tip: do not assume that your patrons cannot speak your native language. If you call someone fat, and question how he of all people could be taking so long to decide on what to eat, do not look suprised when he leaves your restaurant. Just saying.

Weird concept, falls somewhere between qudoba's fast casual and on the boarder ' s sit down. Walk in and order you meal then sit and wait for it. They boat us queso which we didn't order then when they realized the mistake, maybe two minutes, they take the queso off put table and to another! The refried beans were grey and had no flavor at all. I ordered Carne con Chile which was supposed to have a tomitillo sauce. It didn't dark read and and no flavor other than being super spicy. My wife ordered carnitas and they had no flavor either, also very fatty. the flour tortillas were crunchy and burnt. We will not be back. Would give zero stars If I could.

This was our first time trying Salsa Verde. When we walked in there were employees there to help us navigate the menu and instructions for ordering. I would say that this restaurant is a combination of an authentic Mexican sit-down restaurant and a Chipotle. I appreciated the food quality, fast service and friendly faces. Good prices also! We will be back!

I really really wanted to love this place - I love the decor and the service was great. The food came out pretty quickly too. The whole concept of the restaurant (fast and made-to-order food) is great, but I just didn't think the food was good. I got the chimichanga combo, and it was just a salt bomb, I couldn't even eat half of it. The chips were decent, the salsa was so-so. Overall, I was disappointed and don't plan on coming back.
(2)Sherri D.
The food is too bland for my taste. I think Taco Bell has more flavor than this place. The place is very clean and the staff is very friendly. Taco Tuesday special is a very good deal. I got a quesadilla and a dollar taco( special price on Tuesday!) The taco had more flavor than the quesadilla- but both were too bland. Even tons of salsa couldn't cover up the blandness of the food. They charge for carry out and you have to pay for chips, rather you eat in or not. Most mexican restaurants give complimentary chips and don't charge for take out. The majority of the food is very fresh. They put rice in just about everything that I usually order. I don't like rice mixed in my mexican orders. It's ok on the side. The main reason I probably won't go back is- the taste- not my cup of tea for Mexican food- had much better elsewhere.
(2)Brett K.
My wife and I were very disappointed. We had a take out order which was processed quickly AMD with courtesy. When we arrived home, however, the Steak Chimichanga that I ordered was extremely salty and difficult to eat. My wife had a couple of tacos - also very salty. I would not recommend this place. Go to Taco 246 on N High School road and 30th street which is a place that really gets it.

Enjoyed the Chicken Flautas & rice very much.... Disappointed only with the beans. My son really enjoyed the Quesadila de Cameron.... Did was very hot and served with a smile. We will revisit

Good Food, Great Service and Very Clean. The restaurant is semi-fast food. You order at the counter and they deliver food to your table. The place is super clean. Staff was very helpful with menu and very friendly. The Salsa bar is very good.

We decided to go here for lunch after passing by it several times during our grocery shopping trips. Great food, friendly staff, and quick service. We were not disappointed. Will definitely be coming back!

Tried this place on a whim and it's not what we were expecting, but we were not disappointed! It's not the typical Mexican restaurant. You place your order when you walk in and they bring the food to your table. Then you have a "salsa" bar with lots of salsa and vegetable toppings to choose from. What I like best about this place is the fresh ingredients and the high quality of food. I tried four different kind of tacos (fish, pork, steak, and chorizo ~my fav!) that were served open faced style on a soft corn tortilla. My girlfriend ordered two vegetable tacos. All were excellent! We're happy we discovered this place, we will be returning.

Really liked this place. Great tacos and the salsa bar is good. I plan to return.

So we returned here tonight Saturday July 18th. We ordered the chips with the cheese dip and it was good, my only complaint and this seems to be common here in the Indy area is that it is too runny and more of it goes all over my clothes and the table than in my mouth which can be frustrating. So I ordered the build your own burrito but in a bowl. They gave me so much I could not finish it. I opted for the Carne Asada, rice, both types of beans and tomatoes. I did ask for cheese on the side and got none but I probably didn't need it anyway and i surely didn't miss it. The other half got the beef burrito and really liked it. Are they southern California Mexican food? Not even close, but they are as good as it gets here in the Indy area. They have Pepsi products!! Hooray!! The place is bright and very clean and that salsa bar with over 20 items in it is amazing. If you like to sweat then get you some of that green salsa verde and it will put you to the test. They have a punch card which who doesn't like free food right. I did see a sign that said $2 taco Tuesday's, I guess you already know where I will be Tuesday night. The owner himself rang us up and was very polite and friendly to us.

Great tamales! Just visited for the second time and enjoyed it again. Love the salsa bar. The staff keeps things clean and the food is great and inexpensive. Give it a try!
