What does two dollars mean to you? An ATM fee. A split plate charge. An upgrade from chips to frites. A Bic pen in a pinch. At Miss Jimmie's... two dollars means breakfast. Two eggs, two pieces of toast & two pieces of bacon = two dollars. That's affordable. If you want more you can look at that order as "the quick start" to your $3 biscuits & gravy half-order -- what is in truth a whole order to everyone except Miss Jimmie (we want tell her now will we). If Miss Jimmie took that gravy, put it in a cup with straw and called it a milkshake, I would, plainly, drink her gravy milkshake. I'd drink it up (*cue slurping milkshake sounds*). One block East of Rural, on Michigan, Miss Jimmie's is a new storefront for soul food, desserts and those two dollar breakfast plates. They're also soon to open a convenience mart next store that will be replete with tacos -- soul tacos. Ethan Hawke writes his novels in places like this. Void of any intriguing design. Day-time talk shows louder than the bright-colored curlers of their viewership. Mirrors. From a haphazard assortment of tables and booths comes the comfort of "hey, let's open a place and let's do it now. Right now." Tucked in a neighborhood where they never got use to the fact that the only business is a liquor store, they now have a safe place to congregate and carve into the day around a table with friends.
