Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We have walked by this Mexican Restaurant time and again. Every time we stroll by there is a huge line. So, we figured we should try it. For starters, their menu has a plethora of options. All your standard Mexican favs are there. Then, their drink prices are refreshingly fair and crazy expensive. If it wasn't lunch, I would have gotten a margarita. We ordered a Chimichanga and Chile Rellanos. Both were fast to come out of the kitchen and exactly what you would expect. There was a nice kick of spice with the Chile Rellanos, too. The decor isn't anything to write home about, but that makes it all the more authentic. In our travels to Central America there are no crazy urban light bulbs, rather there are plastic chairs and great food. If you are looking for classic Mexican this is a great option. The prices are really good, too.

I feel like I'm voicing an unpopular opinion, but this place is pretty bad and overrated. I've been here several times, and had blah food every time. Maybe it is because I am from Chicago and had access to amazing Mexican (yes, even Tex-Mex) food, but this place is not up to par. I'd rather eat at Taco Bell or Chipotle (I do love both). Not exaggerating. I LOVE Mexican food, and this place ranks second to last on my list of Mexican restaurants (On the Border takes that prize). The food doesn't taste fresh. The guacamole tastes like it is from a can. It doesn't look like real avocados. The food is just blah and favorless. So...meh. The service is also meh. Cleanliness is meh. It is nice to sit on the patio as the location is great, but that's all this place has going for it. It honestly boggles my mind that it gets good reviews. The food is truly poor. I am not a picky eater, and this is one place I actively try to avoid. Go to Cancun, or better yet, Adobo Grill!

A pretty basic Mexican restaurant in the heart of broad ripple that I personally believe could use a remodel. Not so much of the decor but of the way they operate. The wait staff was not attentive or friendly and made me feel uncomfortable when asking for extra things of drink refills. The patio is a nice addition however - which is really the only good place to sit in my opinion.

I have certain friends that I call my "La Piedad" friends just because of our love for this place. The restaurant is located in a cute house-turned-restaurant near the Monon Trail in Broadripple. There are cute colorful lights hanging up outside and the place is always festive and hopping. The chips here are the best ever and we usually get about four refills of them (judge me), however the queso is where it's at. You can't (and shouldn't) go there without ordering it. I also recommend the "Burrito La Piedad" with seasoned ground beef or the "Burrito Ranchero." The service here is very quick and you will receive your food within ten minutes of ordering it. The servers are also really friendly and speak to you in Spanish. They love when people respond to them in Spanish as well and always get a kick out of it. This is just a great place to end a long week with- great food, drinks, and atmosphere. I ate here tonight and there's a good chance I'll be back within the next couple days... Why not?

The day has finally come. I've heard about the fab food at La Piedad from many friends and I'm apparently the only person who has never tried it before today. It certainly did not disappoint! It was a magical experience to say the least. It's a family owned Mexican restaurant and everyone speaks Spanish. Despite my many years of Spanish training, they spoke a little fast and I couldn't understand them at times (#fail). I ordered the infamous arroz con pollo, and man oh man it was delish. Chicken + rice + cheese sauce. It was heaven in my mouth, lemme tell ya. My only complaint is that the cheese sauce was a little rich for my taste and I wish there was more food on my plate :/ For less than $10 you can get a great Mexican meal (with free chips and salsa). OH and did I mention you get your food in under 10 minutes?? They're speedy quick, but I did feel like the waiter was rushing us to order. Overall it was a marvelous experience and I can't wait to explore the menu more. Sit on the patio on a nice day!

I have been here a few times over the years, and my general opinion has been that the food is standard American-Mexican food. Ground beef, cheese sauce, and basic rice and beans dominate the menu. The food is decent, and very inexpensively priced. Flavors are very mild and won't send anyone reaching for a beverage to cool the heat. At this visit I had the skirt steak fajitas which were fine; they were comparable to the type served at most American-Mexican chains. As others have noted service is very fast, and chips and salsa are free. The location is great and parking isn't typically too much of a problem unless it is a Saturday night. This is definitely a good place to bring kids; the fast service and very mild food are really kid friendly.

Chips. Salsa. Queso. Arroz con pollo. Margaritas. Patio. Yep, this is my Broad Ripple happy place. Though this isn't quite my favorite Mexican in Indy, it's still pretty dang good. I usually don't even attempt to come in during the months the patio isn't open due to extremely limited seating inside. Regardless, the service is fast and efficient and all the wait staff is really nice. My only real complaint is honestly about the margaritas. They're good, not great, some times they're more watered down than others. This won't deter me from coming and I'm actually texting a friend to make plans to come here this week after writing this review.

I know it makes me a minority, but I'm not a huge fan or Mexican food. No matter what type of restaurant I'm in, I basically want 2 things: good service and good, local beer. Neither of these are offered at La Piedad. I've been a few times. I've had some specials, the fajitas, and the margaritas. The food is basically identical to every other American Mexican joint, but the margaritas are very sub par. It tasted quite like a bottle of mix that was poured into a hot glass filled with ice (aka very diluted). If ever eat here again, it will be reluctantly and because I lost a vote to the group. There are a LOT better options in Broadripple.
(2)Katie B.
No, it's not the best Mexican food in the world, but it's good. I always enjoy going here. I know what I'm going to get and that it will arrive quickly. It's family owned, and there is very little turnover in staff. I swear they still have all the same servers from when I first went here probably ten years ago. The margaritas are wonderfully strong. The beer list is pretty much limited to your standard Mexican beers. The salsa is tasty, not chunky or very spicy. The chips are warm and delicious. Vegetarians, here's a little tip. For some reason, the vegetarian combos are a little more expensive than the non-vegetarian combos. But, you can just order beans or cheese as your filling for the non-vegetarian combos and get the non-vegetarian combo price. Honestly, I haven't ventured much beyond the combos because there's always good and have many options I like. In the summer, the patio is great people watching. It can get quite busy though, and there's really nowhere to wait. I've never seen them have a list and take people's names down. You just sort of wait in line, and they'll seat you when they can. Tables are turned over pretty quickly so the wait usually isn't too bad.
(4)Stephanie S.
The atmosphere is really nice. The Margaritas were not real strong but they were welcomed in this hot weather. The breeze hits the patio from every angle and its truly lovely. I was pretty disappointed with the guacamole...it was processed and slimy....for this part of downtown I expect better quality. I didn't try anything else because the appetizers were disappointing.
(3)Sarah C.
Tasty! I should probably start veering away from the usual Arroz con Pollo option, but ... it's just undeniably delicious. I had my first visit to La Piedad the other day for a friend's birthday and was honestly surprised that I hadn't stumbled upon it previously. Even though it was still a great little spot in late November, it's got to be a lively/happening place in the summer. So yes, I'll be coming back! It's not the largest establishment, but it definitely does the job. The outdoor/indoor eating options are great -- and there's parking around the restaurant. Nice job, La Piedad. Always a treat to find another wonderful Mexican restaurant!
(4)Janice Ann R.
I really like this little place. It's a cozy little converted house with your standard Mexican fare, served piping hot with nice, large portions. They have tasty fresh guacamole, a few vegetarian dinners, a selection of import & domestic beers, wine & wine coolers. There's a friendly waitstaff that good-naturedly put up with my attempts at Spanish communication. But their location is what makes this such a special place. Right alongside the Monon, on a tree shaded corner with a lovely patio. You usually find parking nearby, except for the busiest of weekend nights. In the summer, bikes pile up outside as Monon riders stop for refreshments. There's nothing finer than relaxing on a warm evening as dusk settles, sitting under breezy branches & enjoying good food.

You know how sometimes you have a memory of something/someplace/someone, and then when you revisit that thing/place/person you end up disappointed because it isn't as awesome as you remember? This is not that kind of place. When we lived on the north side, we frequented La Piedad more regularly. I think the last time I was here was 4 years ago, which is definitely a long enough time for a place to change, if not go downhill. After the Microbrewer's Festival a couple of weeks ago, some hearty Mexican food was definitely in order, so we wandered on over to retry La Piedad. Guys. It was just as good, if not better, than the last time I visited. They were super busy (because it was a Saturday evening around dinner time, which would already be busy, but then add in the people leaving the Festival), but the line moved quickly. It was a perfect night to enjoy their patio (which, while crowded, is much more spacious than the TEENYTINY dining room). I love when service is awesome and efficient, without making me feel like I have to inhale my meal to get the next people seated. It's cheap, it's fast, it's friendly, it's good. What else can you ask for? It's not a place we'll drive all the way to Broad Ripple for, especially since La Parada is 3 minutes from our house, but it IS a place we'll keep in mind more often when we travel outside of the downtown/near east side area.

I celebrated the end of a long fundraising event by joining friends for a late lunch at La Piedad, a Broad Ripple establishment that seems to have attracted mostly praise with a few vocal naysayers that seem to consistently diss the restaurant's authenticity. Now then, I should stress that I'm a born and bred Hoosier who has never been to Mexico and couldn't begin to tell you anything about a restaurant's authenticity other than pretty much guaranteeing you that Taco Bell doesn't fit the bill. The restaurant is owned by the Rodriguez family, though for all I know it could be the Rodriguez family born and bred in Kokomo. The name doesn't really tell you a thing! I was joined for lunch by a friend who'd spent 9+ years in Spain and her daughter who'd been born there and whose opinion of this establishment seemed to be somewhere between slightly above average and just below good. While I've experienced my share of Mexican restaurants in the Central Indiana area, I concern myself more with food quality, atmosphere, and customer service than I do authenticity. I ordered Arroz Con Pollo, a rather delightful concoction of chicken and rice and, in this case, a melted cheese that adds a definite spark. The meal is advertised in the menu as "grilled chicken over a bed of rice with cheese sauce." I think this is a bit inaccurate because the grilled chicken isn't so much "over" a bed of rice as it is mixed in with the rice in smaller pieces. Having had this meal in other establishments, I would have a slight preference for the chicken breast to remain full intact but this doesn't mean the meal is bad - it simply wasn't what I expected and, in fact, it was rather tasty. I also ordered an iced tea and enjoyed the usual chips & salsa as a pre-meal appetizer. The server was proficient, though not particularly outgoing nor personable. I was disappointed to not be offered a refill, that's definitely one of my dining pet peeves, but overall I found the service to be competent but not stellar. In addition to the modest service concerns, I became aware that the young diner who was with me had issues with a bee that kept flying around our outside dining area table. While this can certainly be an issue when one chooses to dine outside, there are basic things that can be done and it's really not good when nobody noticed this bee so that something could be done. As is true of many Broad Ripple area restaurants, the accessible ramp is toward the back of the establishment but the deck had quite enough room that I never felt blocked in or challenged. If I had the ability, I'd likely rate La Piedad a solid 3.5 star experience. However, given that Yelp doesn't have the 1/2 stars and I just can't convince myself that it rises up to a 4-star level I feel obligated to acknowledge that it's a good, but somewhat overrated dining experience with reasonable prices (My meal was under $10) and a beautiful deck that makes a positive dining experience.

We were on the hunt for a Mexican restaurant with good food that wouldn't cost 2 people $50 on a Tuesday night (sorry, trendy Mexican fusion joints in SoBro). Piedad was PERFECT! Its relaxed atmosphere, awesome patio, great food and quick service were exactly what we wanted. I ordered chicken tacos (boring I know) with rice and beans. I had an idea of what I wanted, and this hit the nail right on the head. I wouldn't have changed a thing. My husband had the fajitas and said they were A-ok! I would definitely go back. This place is great!

Finally, a Mexican restaurant that understands my love for queso. I ordered Maria's enchiladas: three chicken enchiladas completely covered in queso. While my arteries didn't love it, my tastebuds and stomach sure did. It came with a side of rice and a cheap price tag of $7.99. Mom got nachos topped with queso (because duh), chicken, beef, onion and bell pepper. I enjoyed scraping the cheesy goodness off her plate and into my mouth with some of our leftover chips. We ate outside and got to enjoy the weather as we munched on our chips and salsa. I should have gone for a margarita to help beat the heat. There were a few flavors and they could be made frozen or on the rocks. A great place to grab a quick, cheap, queso-covered Mexican bite. Note: Not everything is smothered in queso, but if I had my way, it would be.

Don't let the haters scare you off. If you want good Mexican-American food just come here to La Piedad. This small restaurant packs a big punch, in both service and food. When you drive down the street you may mistake it as a wild party going on at a house. You turn down a gravel drive into a small narrow parking lot and walk up to the one room dining area. There is no hostess that greats you or keeps track of who showed up when, just a mass of people huddling for warmth in the entry way. The atmosphere inside is always pleasant, although it does get noisy since everyone is packed into the one room. It is nicer in the summer months when their spacious patio alleviates the crowd inside. The servers are attentive to the waiting mass of people and are pleasant and friendly. After going so often I even get recognized by waiters who say hi and already know what I what I want. While waiting for you food your get the customary free chips and salsa, but take my advice and splurge on the queso. This queso, unlike any other queso I have ever tasted, is smooth and creamy. No chunks of peppers or spices, just the cheese. It is perfect. The quacamole is also spectacular. It is fresh and tastes like they made your bowl especially for you. I could eat their queso and guac for a meal and be happy. Now I traditionally order a chicken chimichanga, no beans. And in my opinion it is the best chicken chimichanga around. I've made it a point when I'm dragged to other Mexican eateries to try their chicken chimichanga but none compare to the crisp tortilla and (in my opinion) perfectly seasoned chicken of La Pieidad's. It is also the perfect portion. No leftovers, but just enough so you won't be left hungry. It is as if they take into account that you'll be having a mass amount of queso and chips with it. Their other food, from what I tried previously before settling on my standard, is also great. And my friends who are vegetarian have no problems special ordering veggie only options or finding other things on the menu to satisfy their Mexican food craving. Long story short, it's the best Mexican food I've had, outside of Mexico. Be prepared to wait for a table in the winter, it's a small space. The wait is worth it for the friendly service and great food.
(4)Ed M.
What a great little spot! Right off the Monon Trail, La Piedad did not disappoint. Freshly made chips and salsa to start on the patio on a warm for Indy spring afternoon. The Super Burrito with steak and chicken was flavorful and delicious. I tasted my wife's chicken enchiladas and they were equally delightful. Accompanied with traditional rice and refried beans you couldn't go wrong with this meal. After a nice ride on the Monon, stop by for a beer and fantastic Mexican meal!
(4)Brittney B.
Love this place. If you're looking for bells and whistles this is not the place for you. It's plain and simply good food and good service. My 17 yr old daughter loves to practice her Spanish with the staff, and they are always happy to help her along.
(5)Ray B.
Level set expectations: it was a Friday night, so parking was a challenge but we had great timing as we were seated immediately. Bluntly- good food, nothing memorable; prices were actually on the low side. Service could have been more attentive (easily they could have serviced us another round of drinks if the waiter had noticed- additional $20).
(4)Chad L.
Average at best. While it is an acceptable choice overall, La Piedad is nothing special, and it's really too bad because they have the potential for so much more. I think they are taking their popularity from over the years for granted now and have slipped in quality across the board. Food is ok, but not great. Margaritas are tasty. Chips and salsa are fine. Guacamole doesn't seem freshly made. Location is great. Patio is nice. Service is lacking. Severs are not attentive at all and they make it very clear that their goal is table turnover, not providing quality service. I saw several tables trying to get any waiters attention only to be ignored several times before someone finally came to their table. Good luck getting more chips. Every time I eat here, it reminds me why I wait so long to come back. And that's too bad, because I really want to like this place.
(3)Felicia D.
Do not do it. You will regret it immediately. Guacamole = bad. Margarita = bad. Tacos = bad. Rice and beans = so bad. The food came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Fast service counts for nothing when the food tastes like this.
(1)Justin M.
2 stars for location. But that's about it. Right in broad ripple right next to the Monon Trail. So it has that going for it. Nice outdoor seating for the warm months and it's nice to see the people going by. Service has been subpar the last couple of times I have been there. Slow to bring chips and chip refills. Then they rush you to order. When you get your food - it's Mexican food that is just average. Much better Mexican fare in Indy. But if your in broad ripple and are craving average Mexican food - this is your spot! I probably will go back because my wife loves their queso - melted white cheese. Nothing really special about that either.
(2)Emily H.
Craving chips and queso? Then La Piedad is your one stop shop! My roommates and I are Mexican food snobs. La Piedad is our go to place when we want warm, crispy tortilla chips, smooth and creamy queso, made to perfection guac, and cheesy arroz con pollo with the perfect chicken to rice ratio. During our last visit I decided to branch out from my usual order, arroz con pollo, and tried the quesadilla rellena (a flour tortilla with cheese and your choice of ground beef or chicken-I went with chicken-with a scoop of beans. Served with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and a side of rice). It was delicious!! The perfect amount of beans blended with the chicken and cheese (thumbs up emoji). The rice was a bit bland and dry. Now my mouth is watering and all I want is La Piedad. Too bad we have like 8 inches of snow on the ground right now...
(5)Veronica P.
I was not impressed. The server was not very personable and the food was soso. We sent back the flour tortillas twice so they could be cooked longer. The carne asada was this large piece of meat which was a bit tough. The Chile Rojo had so much chili powder that it really didn't have a good flavor. I won't be back.
(2)Ryan D.
Oh words can't even begin to express my love of Mexican food. I will say my body does not fully agree with it, but nonetheless it is still one of my favorite cuisines. I recently had the opportunity to visit this great little place with a friend of mine. She recommended I try the Arroz Con Pollo. Can I just say this simple yet tasteful dish through me for a loop. Never had I had something like this before. Trust me when I say I have tried this other places, but La Piedad does it right. Also for a starter try the chips with cheese sauce. Enjoy, as I sit here with my mouth watering now.
(5)John K.
This really isn't a good Mexican restaurant. That doesn't mean it's bad either it just doesn't impress.... But let's start with the good.... The chips and salsa are pretty good, the salsa tasted fresh and had a unique spice that was pleasant. After that it rides down hill. The 'house' margarita was bland, and tastes more like a pre-mixed, store bought margarita than anything else. And next comes the food.... I don't know how in Mexican food with all the spices and sauces you use you can make something taste so bland!!! I had the 'Super Burrito' with chicken and steak. The only way to tell the difference between the chicken and steak was the color of the meat. Otherwise they had the same texture and flavor. The beans where just terrible and the rice tasted like Uncle Bens nuke-in-the-bag.... My wife got the Chimichanga, with ground beef, which was again bland and boring. The service was ok. Overall not worth the trip. Especially when Broad Ripple has so many other Mexican options.
(2)Bart K.
Tasty, consistently good food, served quickly by friendly wait staff. A solid dining experience each time I find myself in Broadripple wanting mexican food.
(4)Snowden M.
I'm going to start off with the positive because that will be the shortest part of my review. The foods cheap, the service is blindingly fast, and the staff are really friendly. This ends the positive portion of my review. Now on to the negative. The salsa is so weak you could feed it to a newborn baby worry free. Absolutely no heat whatsoever to it, not even a hint. I can go get a jar of Pace from the grocery store and have a better salsa then they produce in-house. Strike one. Everything we were served was so incredibly greasy that you can literally see it pool on top of the hideous, tasteless, absolutely bland brownish enchilada sauce they slaughter over every item on the plate. Everything tasted like it was Mexican food day at the old folks home. Bland, bland, bland. Strike two and three. I'm not trying to be an arrogant snob. but anyone that thinks this is good Mexican food needs to broaden their horizons a bit. This is not good Mexican food, not by a long shot. In fact even by Indiana standards this place falls way short of it. We ordered the #18 and #21 combos along with a couple chicken soft tacos ala cart. All were the basic items. Beef enchiladas, tamales, quesadilla's, beef burritos. These are basic items that any good Mexican restaurant should be able to pull off. I won't be back.
(1)Sarine J.
The chips and salsa were good, everything else was meh. If you want good Mexican food around the area, drive down to La Hacienda and you will pay the same price for better quality and tastier food.
(3)S L.
This is a reliable, quick place to get your Mexican food fix. I have received good service and good food consistently. The patio is also wonderful in summertime.
(5)Kristen D.
Literally the best Mexican food I think I've ever had. My chimichanga was not too fried (still edible without having to slice open the top of my mouth), the meat was well-seasoned and not dry, it was pulled chicken, which was easier to eat than chunks of chicken, and the flavors blended very, very well together. My girlfriend got the Burrito Ranchero which she loved too...which is funny, because both of us were originally going to order what the other ended up ordering. (That's why we're friends!) We both left fat and happy at the expense of only ~$15 each, and that included a beer for each of us. If I'm ever in Broad Ripple again, I'll definitely be eating here!
(5)Kelly M.
Great service, cool location . Right on monon trail, food was really good! Will for sure return for takeout Again!
(5)Courtney P.
Stopped in for lunch the other day on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. The food is cheap and comes surprisingly fast. The chips and salsa are delicious. My boyfriend and I both ordered fajitas-- he got chicken and I got steak-- and we were both very happy with our meals. We'll definitely be back to sit outside and try the margaritas! :)
(4)Meredith S.
I have been a fan of La Piedad for about as long as I've lived in Indy... which is about five years. It served me well throughout college, and still serves me well to this day. First of all, love the location. It's tucked away in Broad Ripple but is conveniently near the Monon Trail. The waiters are also efficient and friendly. Won't ever forget them icing one of my friends on her 21st birthday. Yes, the atmosphere is great and the service isn't too shabby, but it also provides solid and tasty food as well. I've tried a whole plethora of La Piedad's menu, and there really isn't anything that isn't good. I love their salsa and their guacamole. Their chimichanga? Yum. Quesadilla Rellena? Sign me up. Bean burrito? Yo quiero. You can't go wrong with this place if you're craving casual, south of the border cuisine. I'm sure it's not super authentic, but I love it nonetheless :)
(4)James B.
Solid 3, more like 3.5. Pacifico was available and chips and salsa did the job. The regular combinations though were regular at best. Mole sauce tasted like something in a packet at taco bell. I would go back but probably just to drink or recover from a long Friday night
(3)Matthew B.
My go-to Mexican place in Indianapolis. Fast service, delicious complimentary chips, and good prices (except the liquor I would say, comparatively).
(4)Emily J.
Best Mexican in Broad Ripple. Service is excellent! The family that owns it is from La Piedad Mexico - very friendly. Very casual. Great patio. Real margaritas. Good for kids.
(5)Sara C.
Cheap. Fast. Delicious. That's what comes to mind. While I do like this place a lot (ultimate nachos, you won't be disappointed) I recently had some fajitas that were really soggy. Other than that, the service is nice and you usually don't have to wait longer than 10-15 for a table, even for my recent group of 6.
(4)Hi C.
So simply delicious! I have been trying to find good Mexican food that isn't all fancied up on a small corn tortilla for months now and I am so happy to have landed upon this place! It is exactly what I have been craving for and I can't wait to go again :D
(5)Tom W.
Always a very good meal and experience. If you have the ability it's even better spending the evening speaking Spanish to the waiter. Always fast and pleasant service. Starting with excellent chips and salsa to accompany a great Mexican beer, and then gorging on arroyos con pollo or my other favorite chile rellano is my kind of nirvana. Also nothing tastier than the white queso dip with your chips as long as you don't mind an occasional treat with calories too numerous to count. One of my favorite spots.
(4)Suzie T.
Well, I've come full circle when it comes to this place. It's kinda like when you find the cutest shoes at the first store you go to. -but you're not sure, so you drag yourself to 10 more and when totally exhausted you wander back and buy the 1st pair you tried. Years ago when we moved close to BR, we ate here a lot & really enjoyed it. Then we starting trying many of the other wonderful Mexican places around town. We liked having a margarita w/our meals and frankly just didn't go back because they didn't serve. We wanted to go some place close on Tuesday and decided to go back, not caring about the having a drink for lunch. Well, they've got us back again. They now serve the best margaritas! Similar to La Margarita in Fountain Sq--light limey & strong enough/ not thick sugary sweet. I'm not basing my review on the drink alone, but as you can tell we're delighted. I ordered my old fav. which are the carnitas. Their portion is huge /w a large dollop of their guac. There's always enough for another lunch. My hubster got the chicken chimi and had them leave out the green peppers for me to share. (Most of the Mexican restaurants have a hard time w/that because they precook many things) It was crisp not soggy and stuffed full of tender chicken topped w/queso. Even their chips were really great, thin & crisp along w/queso and yummy salsa. I also had forgotten how affordable their prices are. It was a really great meal on this beautiful day on the deck! -and we'll be going again.

Walked out. 1st the wait staff was fighting with each other in Spanish over our table. 2nd the waiter who one the fight came and asked what I wanted to drink but he did not ask the woman I was with what she wanted. 3rd he then came back and asked what I wanted to eat and when I didn't respond right away he rudely said "do you know what you want or not". Then he turned and to his fellow waiter and cussed me out in Spanish thinking I wouldn't understand. I told him he was rude and we were leaving.
(1)Lindsay R.
Good food, eager staff, great location off the Monon and a nice patio.. what more could you ask for? I must recommend the vegetable quesadilla. My friends said the margaritas were potent, and on a Sunday Funday this is a necessity!
(4)Zach F.
This is the best mexican restaurant in the broad ripple area. It's pretty authentic and delectable. We enjoyed everything we ordered, from the queso to the tacos and enchiladas. The service met our expectations and left nothing to be desired. My only complaints are that it is generally hard to find parking directly in the direct vicinity and that there is limited seating inside that fills up quickly during the busy hours. In all, if you're looking for a quality mexican establishment in the broad ripple area, look no further than La Piedad. You won't be disappointed.
(4)Rob A.
La Piedad serves up solid, no fuss, Mexican-American food. The meal begins with complimentary chips and decent salsa. The menu is sizable and it's the kind of place that does everything well but don't expect to be blown away. They offer a great balance of quality and price in a nice spot right off the Monon Trail. There is outdoor seating on the patio during the warmer months but seating inside is fairly limited. It tends to get busy and fill up fast, but once you're seated things are speedy. Check it out.
(3)Karen M.
Nice quiet & low key place with very tasty & fresh Mexican food. The cheese & rice is beyond good. I would say it's a bit more pricey compared to other Mexican places you may be used to but it's good quality & the location ups the price a bit. The service is laid back but friendly.
(4)Ben R.
Meh...really alls I can say. Used to eat here all the time, and got to know the staff pretty well, Great guys, there's just nothing chill about the place. Rush rush rush. I get that's the norm with most Mexican joints, but this one is King Rush. The food is meh. La Ha is better choice for your typical Mexican joint IMO. The patio and Monon is it's saving grace really. If you're in the area and want a cold brew, and some chips and cheese and or salsa....then check it out. But that's about it..
(2)Chase M.
To be honest, I was very skeptical of this location. The building is somewhat hole-in-the-wall, but the inside is quaint. We walked in the door and were seated within 10 seconds. Our drink orders were taken right away, and the FREE chips and salsa were brought out. All of this was within 1 minute of us walking through the door. The food arrived after an average wait time. My nachos put the extra in extraordinary! There was a nice creamy fajita sauce, plenary of chips, grilled onions and peppers, and perfectly grilled steak strips. I couldn't stop eating. All for $7.99!!! Definitely recommend!
(4)Fede B.
This is a classic Mexican restaurent . quick. Good food and cheap. Nice location as well.
(4)Melissa B.
I come here every once in a while for a cheap meal in a good location. It's right on the Monon Trail if I happen to be walking around, but if I'm looking for phenomenal food I don't really think of this place. The salsa is watered down, and the meals come in large portions with mediocre presentation. However, the waiters are very nice and the margaritas are decent--they're cheap and they taste good. If you're looking for great, authentic Mexican food, I wouldn't put this in your top ten.
(3)Stacie F.
Great service and all the food I've had is good. Not blow your socks away good, but still solid. Once I found this place, I've been back a few times in a month. The menu is big so you can try a different thing each time. The outdoor seating is nice!
(3)Kinsey C.
Pros: Mexican in Broad Ripple, outdoor seating, decent food Cons: Poor and slow service, crowded My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The sign stated that we should wait to be seated, but this place didn't seem to have a hostess. We found someone to seat us, but I saw others waiting for a while before a server noticed they were standing there and seated them. Chips and salsa were placed on our table immediately. We waited for a while (5 minutes?) before our server took our drink orders, and about the same amount of time for them to arrive. He took our order and then we waited about 20 minutes for food to arrive. When it arrived, we noticed that he forgot the queso we ordered. It was no biggie, so we didn't say anything about it. I ordered soft chick tacos and my boyfriend for the chicken quesadilla. It was decent, not great and not terrible. I'd go back, but I wouldn't crave the food or anything. When our bill came, it was around 10 bucks. Seriously, two people can't even eat at Wendy's for 10 bucks anymore so I was pleased. All in all: Decent food at a good price in a great neighborhood. Come here to eat outside on a nice day.
(3)Jennifer G.
I was so disappointed after reading all the positive reviews. First, I did not like the atmosphere. It was too crowded, loud and cold due to the door constantly opening and closing. I ordered cheese enchiladas. They were also disappointing. The cheese was cheap--tasted like american cheese. I also asked the waiter for sour cream but he did not bring it for 15 minutes after my food arrived. My husband said his burrito was just okay. We would not go back.
(1)Linda M.
I enjoy the free chips and delicious salsa. I ordered the Nachos La Piedad with a combo of chicken and beef -- love the bite-size meats. The chips of the nachos are crisper than those for the salsa. Love that. Ladies' restroom had interesting shelving that was parts of a table. One dislike was the cold air that came each time the front door opened. This time I had a coupon for 10% off total bill.
(5)Cassandra W.
This place is delicious! The wait staff is always very friendly & helpful. They don't glare at me when my kid rubs beans all over the table and they also don't glare at me when I do dumb things, that's really nice. The food is good. I felt a little defensive when I read the comments about it not being 'authentic'. After eating some seriously un-authentic mexican food in New York, I have to say that Indiana has it pretty good. In my opinion (I'm not Mexican), it's pretty authentic. I think I have some tiny amount of cred since my brother in law is Mexican..... Also, Mexico is kind of a big place, with potential for multiple types of Mexican fare, just saying. One more thing, the people who work there seem to be kind of Mexican, just kind of. Anyway, it's a chill place. The salsa is yummy, the food is priced perfectly for me, it's right by the monon so you can bike over, run over, walk over or be lazy and drive right up Cornell and park in the angled spots across the street, which is what I most often do. I love the patio in the summer. I've always had prompt service, I almost always have the same server & he's super nice, makes jokes and understands Spanglish. It's a casual, wear your flip flops, don't worry about your hair kind of place. That's my style.
(5)Ryan D.
One of the best Mexican restaurants. I have only recently had the pleasure of eating here and I was blown away. The service was great! The food was fantastic and the location is fabulous. Literally the best Mexican food I think I've ever had.
(5)Krista R.
Boring and tasteless food. Not sure why it's busy half the time we walk past it. Tex-Mex can be done right -- but La Piedad's stuff is clearly frozen then microwaved. No passion or flavor in this food. It's about as Mexican as Fazoli's is Italian... The guac had NO avocado in it! It looked like sour cream with green food coloring... The salsa was so watered down we didn't eat it -- and I freakin' love salsa! Go to Taco Bell if you are desperate.
(1)Joshua P.
Mexican food. An outdoor patio. And a margarita or Dos Equis. It's gonna be a great meal. The price is very inexpensive, but the food is always great.
(5)Rob S.
Food is always tasty. Service is quick and attentive. Even when the restaurant is packed the wait staff does not try to rush you out. Location is right on the Monon Trail.
(4)Jenna L.
Friendly staff, yummy mex, quick to grab you a beer (only bottles here-weird) but overall loved it. Nothing fancy, but yummy.
(4)Rfs S.
The monon location is great but, not enough to overlook quality issues. They water down their salsa & put vinegar in it. You're allowed 2 salsas & then you're charged for additional ones. The staff wasn't very friendly & the service wasn't very good. My bill was $8, but so what. If they're that cheap with salsa then who knows about the quality of the burrito I ate. (shiver)

Three words to describe: Amazing, Authentic, and Fun. Okay so I'm a southern California girl and I KNOW good Mexican when I have it. I know you Indy folks may not dig the vibe, as I have read some of the reviews, BUT this is about as over the border as you can get this side of the border, no joke. I LOVE the ambiance, yeah it's a little hole in the wall with nothing special tables and chairs, but that is what I LOVE! It is authentic down to the décor. The many time I've been to Mexico and other authentic California Mexican restaurants this is EXACTLY what you are going to find. Side Note: Everything is clean, and well kept, it's just not the type of "cute" people seem to expect in BRip. Let's talk about the food for a second, seeing this is a restaurant and not a interior design store, the food is AMAZING, TOP KNOTCH, and AUTHETIC. The portions sizes are HUGE, the prices are cheap, and the drinks are strong! This place gets two thumbs up from me!
(5)Chelsie W.
This is by far my favorite Mexican place in Indy. Service is quick and always accurate. The guacamole is delicious and the chicken is always fresh. It is very reasonably priced also. My favorite: chicken chimichanga.
(5)Kevin S.
Best Mexican food around. Great service with reasonable prices. La Piedad is popular as evidenced by the crowds so you may wait in line during peak times, but we have always gotten in quickly. Sit on the patio to enjoy the outside atmosphere of Broad Ripple.
(5)Dustin G.
Love their queso which is good with just about anything on the menu. My minor complaint is they are kind of skimpy on chips and salsa. My wife and I have been to this restaurant many times and we hardly ever get asked for a refill on the chips and salsa. Their chips and salsa are also really good. I love the cozy feel of this restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!!
(4)Wil A.
A gem within walking distance. Sometimes the service can be lacking, but the location, food quality, prices, and atmosphere make it a fantastic little joint.
(4)Kimmi M.
Great location and awful food. I like to call this La Jolla syndrome. Salsa is watery and does not stick on a chip. Beans are grey. Food is not authentic. Authenticity aside, grey beans and salsa water are not what I look for in a restaurant. Everything I've ever ordered from this restaurant could only be described as wet or runny, actually. My chile relleno which would have been cheaper to get a la carte, was full of runny, flavorless queso blanco, and sans any flavor of the poblano. The chile relleno dinner only came with one chile and with flour tortillas? I could not think of a reason tortillas were wasted to come with this meal. Enchiladas verdes are flavorless and runny everywhere except the chicken, which is dry and crumbly. There is only one kind of hot sauce here, and it's not even stellar! Also any kind of Diabla item is missing from this Americanized menu. Gimme gimme some spice! Would I come back? Maybe for margaritas, maybe if I was as hungry as I was on Saturday. It's definitely not worth the time to come to La Piedad and expect good food when there are so many great Mexican restaurants outside of Broad Ripple.
(2)Emel S.
In my group of friends, I sometimes feel like the outcast because I don't have rave reviews about La Piedad. Frankly, I would rather go to El Rodeo. The food is decent and the prices are right but I just have nothing to rave about. I was even excited the last time I was going to go because some one told me about their "house hot sauce". I have no idea what they were raving about! I would have preferred Sriracha! They do have a great patio in the summer time but make sure you plan on getting their early or waiting a while to be seated because people aren't quick to give up their seats.
(3)Jason T.
I hate to say it but the ONLY thing good about this place is the location and that being said if its summer and or warm outside... the food used to be good here a LONG time ago, now its got traffic so it doesnt care i guess. i will never go back after giving it a few more chances. its so close to my house so wanted to like it! i promise, but la hacienda is a wayyyy better option my fellow BR neighbors.
(2)Nicolette M.
I rarely eat out for Mexican food so I'm definitely not an expert on the cuisine. I just don't crave the food like I do other cuisines and so I'm not going to pretend that I have any ability to rate the quality of the food in comparison to "authentic" Mexican. I have enjoyed the food here, though, and have had no complaints about anything I have been served. As I get filled up quickly on chips and refried bean, I rarely order one of the big platters. My meal is always pretty cheap here. The patio is wonderful. Large and along a quieter side-street in Broad Ripple, its a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon, if you are fortunate enough to get a seat. This place is a favorite among locals and I have had to move on to another restaurant on more than one occasion in place of an evening here. The place doesn't have a liquor license, or at least it didn't the last time I was there. There are beers available along with a "margarita" made from wine. I won't make fun of the margarita. If its what's available, I will drink it, and, on a hot afternoon, it's absolutely delicious. Cheap food, great patio, and drinks. What more does someone need? Perhaps the 10% off coupon you can score by going to the restaurant's website?
(4)Tony J.
Stop here for lunch during one of our bicycle down the monon weekend. Food tasted just like any other Mexican places we've been, nothing really special. Service is about the same quick get in and out. Great location though, if you like the broad ripple area.
(3)C A.
I really like the food here. The burrito with rice and beans is right up my alley. The margaritas aren't awesome, but sufficient. The patio is great. Nothing super fancy, but just the right place for casual, local Mexican.
(4)Deborah B.
Popped in on a busy Saturday. Sat inside since the patio was full and we were starving and didn't want to wait. Service was very prompt. Free chips and salsa. Both average and tasing a bit like you could find better at the grocery store. Guacamole, came out super fast, and obviously pre-made, runny mushy and just ok. Had one enchilada smothered in sauce and one hard taco, both with ground beef. My companion had a grilled salad. Overall lacking in flavor, very bland food. Not authentic, and sorry, it's just not good. SInce it was so crowded we had high hopes, but yet another Indy Mexican restaurant fail.
(2)Ashlee A.
La Piedad was pretty good. Your standard fare Mexican, but the prices are right and the drinks are cheap. Our service was so-so, but I might go back again for lunch sometime.
(3)Nathan M.
Britt and I hit it up two weeks ago and if you ask her and if she remembers right, I said it was the best Mexican I have had RIGHT behind El Camino Real in Portland...it was really good...however, at 630 rush on a Friday...it was the size of a matchbox, loud, stuffy, and not intimate at all...i like to eat in peace and that...was a rushed meal, but so so good. The imported beer selection is cheap and the fajitas had aton of flavor, they were slightly smoky from the paprika, had a bit of kick from the chili powder, and not greasy or over seasoned . The servers were busy, yet very friendly. It was killer, and its now our go to Mexican joint in the city.
(5)Michayla S.
This isn't going to be the best Mexican food you've ever had, and it's not particularly authentic. However, the food is good, maybe above average. I was happy with my meal, but it wasn't incredibly memorable. I would go back if I want Mexican again. Their queso blanco is pretty good, though, and there are, of course, neverending chips. The service is good and the restaurant is clean.
(3)Mike D.
Quick, friendly service. The food is not fancy, but it is delicious, filling and consistent. (Savings tip, as if it's not already reasonably priced...If you shop at Marsh, be sure to keep your receipt. There's a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $25 or more, or a free appetizer with the purchase of 2 combination plates.)
(4)Elisabeth P.
I don't want to do this. I really love the food, but when I went in there this weekend, I felt that something was off. The service was awkward and rushed. When we got the bill, it seemed a little high for what we ordered. They changed it immediately when we went to question the price which is great, but also a little concerning since they asked no questions about what we ordered. They had overcharged us 33%. So, yeah the food is great, but check your bill, you might be surprised.
(1)Krista A.
I do love La Piedad, mostly because the location is so easy for me. The food is good, sometimes a bit salty. Great salsa!
(4)Neesha M.
La Piedad is in a great location right on the Monon Trail in Braod Ripple. I love their outdoor patio in the summer (especially since they've added the awnings). They have an extensive menu with, in my opinion, some of the tastiest salsa I've ever had. I'd buy it if I could. The margaritas are decent, my husband loves the carnitas, and I find their food generally pretty good. The flan is usually a little overdone, so avoid it if you're looking for something authentic and "like you remember it." They are blazing fast and you can get in and out (assuming there's a table available) in 15 minutes, if you needed to.
(4)David F.
I can't figure out why this place is always busy. Runny food, it's always crowded and they couldn't possibly fit anymore table in the place. The food is over-priced and definitely not authentic. I guess it really comes down to location on this one. Avoid if you can. try Cancun on Keystone by the Krogers for great mexican and drinks!
(2)Theodore B.
La Piedad is alright. The food is pretty good, it's about what you would expect from a place like this. I normally wouldn't bother to write a review about such a forgettable place, but there's this common misconception that everyone has about La Piedad. Whenever La Piedad is brought up, the consensus seems to be that they're cheap and give huge portions. This is not true. Your food will run you around 9-10 dollars, and the portions are average. So look yelpers, stop spreading these demonstrably false rumors. Also, here's something else, people are so happy to exclaim how fast you get your food. Why is that a bonus? It's like when I see advertisements for bars they claim to have "The coldest beer in Indy". Yeah, well, I don't think there's anything wrong with the temperature of beer at the bars I already go to. This is a sit down place. I don't need to leave within five minutes. And if you're picking something up to go, you could just call it in. Look, La Piedad is fine, but seriously overrated.
(3)Samantha H.
Very good food. Too bad it isn't bigger because I often don't go because I know how long the wait is going to be.
(3)Luisanna R.
I really enjoyed eating at this restaurant. I am always pretty nervous about trying new mexican restaurant but I really enjoyed my meal. We tried the carnitas and the flautas and they were both really great. All of the food was really hot which i also really appreciate, nothing worse then cool corn tortillas. I will definitely be back. :)
(4)Ryan R.
Super Casual right by the bars. Great Stawberry marguarita. Fast service even though the porch was full for the Indy 500. I,ve devouered my fair share of Mexcian food, this place was delicious. Shrimp tacos!
(4)MJ W.
I had the taco salad here and it was delicious. I gave up chips for lent, so I will have to go back and try them. Great mexican fried ice cream as well.
(4)Kevin S.
This has easily been our favorite Mexican Restaurant so far. I suggest the nachos la piedad or the three marias. The cheese is great and the chips and salsa are as well. The staff is friendly and you can tell there is a great atmosphere. We've only been in Indianapolis for two months and we have been to La Piedad about five times.
(5)Stephen M.
Quaint little restaurant in the trendy part of town. Crowded tiny place crammed with people and tables. Feels very much like eating in the middle of a busy airport with about the same level of friendliness. How was the food? It was hard paying attention when being bumped, elbowed, and pushed around. Waiters literally dropped the food on the table without saying a word. Next time, I'll opt for a nice relaxing dinner at LaGuardia or Chicago airport during rush hour.
(2)Simon B.
I'm from California where Mexican food is plentiful, not so much in Indy. The mexican food out here usually is not authentic, not so here. The carne asada tacos were great. Only downside it does get pretty busy for dinner and margaritas are a little pricey.
(4)Brenton A.
Probably my new favorite mexican place in town for some straight up, no frills mexican food. Not a lot of seating space, so plan ahead accordingly if you have a large party. The chips and salsa are fantastic. Tried a couple of other places, but I think this will be our stand-by when we want mexican.
(4)Kimberly H.
I tried La Piedad on the recommendation of an old co-worker who said it was "the best Mexican food in Indy"; I disagree. Once you put salsa on my table that has the spice level of ketchup and is the same consistency as my water, I'm done. And to all restaurants: please stop covering your burritos with bland red sauces, they are not fooling anyone. Their saving grace is the location. If I ever find myself here again, I will sit myself on the patio, enjoy the sun, and have a margarita.
(2)Colin G.
I went to this place once and was seriously impressed. The food was DIRT CHEAP and good at that. I got the fajita platter and it only cost me like 7 bucks. I dont think there was anythign on the menu for over 10 bucks. Beers were cheap and the food was great. Enough food to fill you up but not leave you feeling over stuffed. The place is very authentic, everyone working in there is definitely of mexican descent and the place looks like its run by family. The food is spot on in term of authentic mexican flavors and I was very happy with the entire meal. The location is awesome, right on the Monon trail, and they have an outdoor balcony you can sit on and watch the joggers and dog walkers go by.
(4)Casey R.
La Piedad to me was the best Mexican food in the city. It was always tasty and very consistent. Here lately though the serivce has been terrible, no one wants to wait the tables, refill chips, drinks, etc. I'm not sure what the deal is but it has left me seeking my Mex food crave somewhere else. The food is still good so if service doesn't matter to you check it out.
(3)brianne c.
The best, hands down.
(5)J T.
First time here - for lunch - bean and beef burrito. Always try the burrito as the first time test (just like pad thai at Thai restaurants). Burrito passed the test. Food was very good and service was fast. The deck - under canopy looks like a great place to unwind with a beer - $3.50 for a bottle - can't beat that with two sticks. Lunch is less than $10 with drink and tip - now that's value. Room for improvement - more heat on the hot sauce! Another great find in Broadripple.
(3)Carrie B.
Having just moved back to Indianapolis from Dallas, I'm on the hunt for a great Mexican restaurant. This place was OK, better than La Jolla in my opinion. My test is the enchiladas. They were just OK, they were a little puny and I thought they could have been filled with a little more chicken. The sauce on top was good, though. The rice was a little on the bland side for me. My favorite part about this place is the patio. Great deck outside with awnings to cover you from the sun. The service was really good too, incredibly fast and courteous.
(3)Casey G.
More Mexican food for people that don't know what Mexican food is. Can't blame the restaurant if that's what people want...but I won't be going back :(
(1)Byron J.
Mexican food in Broad Ripple? Steer clear of that place on the strip and avoid the big chains, hit up La Piedad back in the bellows of the Ripple. They have a great patio and the food here blows away the other places, best tostaguac ever. The staff is way better here than the other places and the local cliental is cool to chill with.
(5)Tara M.
Cozy place. Warm chips. Friendly service. Big menu that includes lots of good vegetarian options. It does the job.
(3)Ryan H.
I'm not really sure why people rave about this place for its quality, though I can only attribute it to the same reasons people vote for chain restaurants in the annual 'Best Of' awards in local print publications. Indy's residents have a 'handicap' when it comes to food awareness, as we live in the chain capital of America. However, there is nothing bad about the food at La Piedad. I would say it's more that the location is so money that the food is somewhat secondary. Nestled just off the Monon Trail on the north end of Broad Ripple, La Piedad is in one of the more perfect locations in Ripple for the crowd who likes the (just) off the beaten path spots. The food here is decent, but not great. It's pretty typical Mexican-American food. You're not going to find innovative, or truly authentic. Rather, it's your basic meat-bean-rice-cheese combos, though, they are prepared well. The lunch specials are cheap, the beer is cold and great on a nice, sunny day, and the porch is the only way to roll on the nice days. Certainly, there are not a lot of great Mexican restaurants in Indy, so this may actually be one of the better ones. I will give them credit where it is due for the quality of the ingredients, which seem fresh and tasteful.
(3)Tom H.
Good and gloppy LA-Mex food. Good service, loud, noisy, fun, patio, beer, and really good food for a decent price. If you need atmosphere, coddling, plush booths, and/or strip mall parking, go some place else. Veggy choices abound. Very fresh, very professional.
(3)JR J.
Shrimp enchilada's are fantastic, La Piedad has a great patio where you can watch people on the Monon Trail. The service is good and the food comes out at quickly.
(4)Jessica K.
I had high hopes for La Piedad. I am always looking for a new Mexican restaurant in town. The location is great, although challenging to find some parking. The service is hit or miss. One time we had decent service, then the other time it was horrible and I think the server was really trying to ignore us. Also, when we went with our child we definitely were treated poorly and got the distinct impression kids are not welcome. Not sure I will go back due to this since our son goes with us to eat. It gets very crowded during dinner time which is normally a good thing, but they don't seem to manage that well and there is no foyer to wait so people are standing over your shoulder giving you the "stare" to hurry and finish so they can be seated. There are many other Mexican restaurants in town that have just as good of food, but with much better atmosphere and service.
(2)Bill S.
Yes it could be better. Salsa ok. Service ok. I had the cheese enchiladas--very good. Wine reasonably priced. Handy to Monon Trail. Nice to sit outside when weather permits. Recommended.
(4)Ross F.
Just moved to the Broad Ripple area recently and have eaten at La Piedad a few times. I think it's well above average for American-Mexican cuisine and is very reasonably priced. They make the basics well (i.e. taco's and enchiladas) and their queso & chips are great. My only gripe is the service; they are not good about refilling chips and drinks, especially if you sit outside (it is almost comical how they go out of the way to avoid you at times!). But the staff is friendly and generally does a great job.
(4)Mike F.
Pretty good mexican food. I'd be sure to try the fajitas-they're excellent. This is definitely the best Mexican food in Broad Ripple, but if you're really in the mood, head five minutes up the street to Cancun Restaurant.
(3)Tim W.
Great food, great prices, great service. An all-around satisfying experience. A little off the beaten path in Broadripple, but that means parking isn't nearly the hassle that you get at places near the main drag.
(4)Jennifer L.
Indy's most authentic Mexican food--in Broad Ripple. There are much better Mexican restaurants in different areas of the city, but this one happens to be among lots of other restaurants. The chicken and shrimp fajitas here are reasonably priced at $10, but they're dry and tasteless. The salsa is better than most of what you'll get in Indy. The rice and beans are pretty good. Hey, I'm from Texas.
(2)JJ K.
I had high hopes for my first trip to La Piedad......porch atmosphere was great, got a cold cerveza, service was freakishly fast, love the chips and salsa but then came the entrees and my hopes plummeted like the stock market. Maybe it was what i ordered? Maybe not though because my ol' (lovely) lady didn't fair well with her dish either. I'd recommend you steer clear of the fajitas (i had ones with chicken, shrimp and skirt steak) and possibly hit up tacos, burritos or something simple like that. Probably would go back again but mainly for drinks and good people watching outside!
(2)Vic D.
This is always an enjoyable dining experience. The food is good, service is too, price is right and the location right off the Monon Trial is visually appealing. It's easy to see why they are so busy so much of the time!
(4)Katie W.
Awesome find. Great service & food
(5)Bianca S.
For the price you pay, you really cannot complain. I like how most of the servers there do not speak very good English...more authentic that way. I admit, I haven't ventured out on their menu; however, I don't really anticipate that their chicken quesadillas are going to taste THAT much different than Qdoba, El Rodeo, Red Habenero or one that I can make at home on my awesome quesadilla sizzler. I stick to my trusty chicken burrito with a side of beans and rice. You're lucky if you find an "authentic" Mexican place that actually puts queso fresco on your beans...I can't remember if Piedad does so. Overall, love their food and will be going back sometime this summer.
(4)Kieron M.
Taco salad had very fresh ingredients.

I'm very picky when it comes to authentic Mexican. This place is great. This is the first time we've been here and we had super service. Literally, our coronas were on our table in 30 seconds. The food came out really fast and we had a fresh refill of chips with our meal. What I liked is that they are generous when it comes to the cheese sauce topping, while some other restaurants can be a little chincy. Chicken had a kick to it that I liked and good flavor. My fiance had the flautas which he really liked. It was a great ending to a nice day. Restaurant is located in broad ripple and it is a little tough to find a parking spot but the nice thing is that there are a lot of other shops, restaurants and an icecream place near by. It's a good place for a reasonably placed, low key date. The do get pretty busy but the wait wasn't that long. Just watch out for big groups and be sure to speak up if there's a big group standing in line in front of you. There was a group of seven people in front of us but they sat us before them which was nice.

How can La Piedad NOT be on Yelp yet? Wowza. This is the best Mexican joint in Indy. No doubt. Tiny and tucked back against the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple, La Piedad offers outdoor seating on a deck and a tiny indoor dining area. If you're dreaming of a romantic night on the town, sit outside. Indoor seating lacks, well, everything. But outdoors, you'll have the best seat in the house for people watching and enjoying the weather. When I tell people about this place, I always get a reply of "How the hell did I miss this place all this time?" Thin and crispy chips and tangy cilantro-packed salsa hit your table within seconds of sitting down, and the server brings more and more (and more ...). Try the chicken chimichanga or the Burrito La Piedad. For those who enjoy a cold beverage, you might be disappointed that there aren't many choices. No margaritas on this menu! But since I don't drink much, a cold iced tea suits me just fine. Head to Broad Ripple and request a seat on the patio at La Piedad this summer. Sit back and enjoy the great eats and great conversation with friends!

That's not a taco, it's a sort of three-way on a tortilla

Indianapolis is a big town but has small town tastes. I came from a much smaller town and it had a lot more to offer in ethnic food choices. Having said that, this is the best restaurant I've found for Mexican cuisine. It doesn't hurt that they have a great location and the patio is perfect for summer dining. The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful. Great place, great people!

The food is decent for the cheap prices. However, the service is rude. We ordered a beer to go with our meals. The food came out 1 minute after the beers. After the finished our meals we wanted to relax and enjoy our beers. You could tell the staff did not like this and wanted us out to sit more people. It made the dining experience feel uncomfortable.

La Piedad is in a nice location in Broad Ripple and has probably some of the best Mexican food ever. The outdoor seating area was nice. The service definitely needs to be improved though.
