Pros: good food, friendly service Cons: service was a bit slow, overpriced I stopped in to La Hacienda for a weeknight dinner with a girlfriend. I have to say that I left with a full tummy and a smile on my face. It started with warm tortilla chips and some pretty good salsa. Throw in a little white queso dip? Yes please! I ordered a quesadilla, which essentially came out with 80% chicken and 20% cheese. The chicken to cheese ratio was off, but drizzle a little queso on it and it tasted great. My girlfriend ordered a combo platter and was pleased with her dish as well. The service was pretty friendly, and my drinks were refilled in a timely manner which is important for me when I'm chowing down on Mexican grub! All in all: I will be back again (and again and again...)

This is some of the best Mexican in Indy. I have been going here for a couple years, and they have been consistently good. The atmosphere is very typical, but the building is not. This building is actually on the Register of Historic places being on the Fort. The service is always very attentive and the restaurant is clean. The big burrito hacienda is my go to. Also, they have fantastic house margaritas. Seriously, I have to find out what tequila they are using. I could sit out on the patio in the summer and drink these all afternoon.

Great place for Tex-Mex, but it can get busy during the lunch rush. So if you don't mind sitting out on the patio when it's open, you won't have to wait for indoor seating. I'm not a big fan of re-fried beans, but I am carnivorous, so I got El Burro de la Roqueta with rice on the side. The pork filled tortilla was juicy and drenched in a tomato based sauce, but it'd be nice if it was a little lighter on the salt. Lunch portion is quite large and it will definitely leave you feeling stuffed. There are also plenty of vegetarian options available for the herbivores. The best thing I ate there was the tortilla chips and salsa that they bring out to snack on before your main meal. Both are prepared fresh. They do get addictive, so you'll be asking for more, but they'll be happy to replenish it.

This was our first time here and it didn't disappoint! The prices were pretty cheap as well and food came out pretty fast! We will definitely be back. Yummmmm enchiladas! The fajitas seemed to be popular and very large. I definitely want to give those a try!

I stopped in to La Hacienda for a lunch, the environment is authenticity Mexican! I haven't ate Mexican foods for a longggggg time. In Rochester, NY, they do not have authentic Mexican foods. It was so hard to find it and I've been seriously craving! So finally, I came to La Hacienda with my supervisor for the first time and I wasn't sure what food I should order. My supervisor always goes there from work which it is right across from the street. It was friendly walking distance but no sidewalk, be careful with cars. So my supervisor always ordered one of his favorite foods--el combo, it is a combination with taco, enchilada with choice of rice or beans. So I ordered the same with him. The foods was fantastic and the service was pretty fast. I came often with my coworkers and didn't get tired of the same order as I was with my supervisor. Highly recommend to anyone who likes mexican foods. Overall, the price is reasonable, good quality foods, friendly and quick service.

Well-staffed, with professional waiters in uniforms, who spoke English well. Clean in the dining area, and cleaner than average in the men's room. Multi-page professionally done English menu, in hard plastic. Tables for 4, for 2, and booths for 4. They serve beer and wine. Food is served on ceramic plates, stainless steel utensils. Soft drinks come in large hard plastic tumblers with free refills. I've only been there once so far, and would compare my entree to what is served at the La Hacienda on Graham Road. Maybe a tad not as good, but they deserve another chance. Refried beans, rice and tamale were formulaic. My steak was nice and tender and cooked just right. Attentive service, waiter checked on me sufficient times, drink refilled, empty plate removed in timely fashion, and check brought to the table. You are given chips and the house salsa prior to ordering. Both the chips and the salsa were good, better than average. Chips were thin and crispy, not oversalted, and not greasy. A few years ago, this used to be an independent coffee shop. Originally, I think it was the Fort's post office. It's directly across 56th street from DFAS, the Finance Center.

Old converted train station. Decent spot for a massive dinner or lunch after a hike at Fort Ben. An $8 plate is ginormous, enough food for a week. Food was average, though. Nothing terrible, nothing outstanding -- kind of like Indy. Friendly staff. Super-fast service. Like most outdoor seating in Indy, La Hacienda's is useless unless you love traffic noise. Henry Ford should have reconsidered.

Yes, the chicken soup is good. So is the salsa. However, the service is slow, so don't be on any time constraints. It took 15 minutes to place our order. It took another 15 after we were done to get the check. And THEY WERE NOT BUSY. Try the La Ha on Binford for better service.

I have probably eaten here a dozen times since moving to the Ft. Ben area! Pros: fast and friendly service, great queso, and fantastic food! Cons: the ground beef is only so so...I recommend the shredded or grilled chicken with meals. Overall, the restaurant is festive and clean. It's located in a cool, historic building. The food is great and I'm tempted daily to stop in on my way home from work! Check it out if you are in the area.

In general, I think most tex-mex places taste about the same with an occasional standout. This one stood out for the wrong reasons. Very generic food & it seemed like it was transferred from a can to the plate. Bland. Service was quick, and lots of outdoor seating. If you go: sit outside, have a marg, split some chips and salsa, then go get Taco Bell and call it a day.

Went to lunch today at LaHacienda, and I was sooo disappointed. The service was good although multiple orders at our table were incorrect. I ordered two shrimp quesadillas a la carte. It was basically a tortilla with some cheese and over cooked shrimp. Fail! My friends burritos and hard taco looked horrid. I'm not sure if they were having a bad day, but I expected more. The best part of meal was the chocolate mint given with the bill. This just makes me sad...

You would not think to order chicken soup at a Mexican restaurant, but OMG they make the best! Lots of chicken, rice, avocado in the most amazing broth! You gotta try it!

This is your typical, authentic Mexican place-- brightly colored decor and fast service. They also have a nice outdoor dining area. The salsa is good, but it's definitely not spicy-- so if you want a salsa to burn your lips, this ain't the place. They have several varieties of margarita- I had the Texas Margarita, and it was tasty (although, a little heavy on the sweet n sour). For my meal, I had the chicken fajitas, and they were yummy. They serve them with a plate of beans (I could do without), and a salad (guac, pico, and lettuce). I highly recommend the meal- the sides are so so.

Bland salsa. Bland chips. So-so slow service. The chille relleno (Hacienda verison ) was excellent (had a different name-chile poblano). Prices were reasonable. In an old Interurban station near the Ft. Harrison Park. As others have said, the chicken soup is incredible. Highly recommended.

This hacienda is a great lunch option for folks over in the Ft. Ben area. They are really quick to get you in and out for a speedy lunch hour. The food is like any of the hacienda restaurants, tasty!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
