Let me preface this review by saying I grew up on La Hacienda. Quesdailla Verde, Vegetarian B, and Enchiladas Haciendas are dishes that will always be with me and my reminiscent stomach. However, La Hacienda is much like El Rodeo and El Jaripeo in that they cater to people who want a certain type of Mexican. This is food is more authentic than taco bell, but very unoffensive. It's good food and it serves its purpose. I'll come here when I crave chicken nachos or margaritas. Otherwise, It's La Parada time.

La ha is the best Mexican on the east-side, without a doubt! Delish. Hot food. Good mexiCAN!

It's not that the food is disgusting- it's delicious! It's that this location is disgustingly filthy. From cockroaches on the walls to dead ones on the floors- I avoid this place at all costs!

Salsa is good. Nice blend of tomatoes, onions, cilantro and heat. Food was good until we found hair in it. I hadn't been here for years due to a terrible server and slippery floors due to filth. Not sure what compelled us to go back, but it was a quick trip to get there. The waitress was nice and prompt bring our food out. Maybe a bit too prompt. All was good until we found a hair in my daughter's quesadilla. For future reference, make sure you show the waiter/ess the hair before you extract it. We ended up getting two of the dinner specials. At checkout, the manager had no idea that our plates were the specials even though the dry erase board near him stated so. He said it was left over from lunch and hadn't been changed. I told him how funny that was considering it stated "Dinner specials." He's about as greasy as the floor we were slipping on. Don't think we're going back anymore.

La Hacienda is nothing special, BUT I LOVE IT! Mainly because they serve pitchers of tasty tasty margaritas. Most of the other Mexican restaurants on the eastside do not serve margaritas. So for that reason alone, La Ha (as it's known by regulars) is worth a trip. The food (which includes many vegetarian options) is not spectacular, but its good, reliable, fast and soaks up a lot of the margarita.

The food is alright (nothing to write to Mexico about), and the restaurant itself is not all that clean and in need of some major updates (re-upholstery, paint job, dusting on the decor, etc). Our server was friendly and funny- He was young, yet he was able to joke with the same wit of someone a bit older (making a slight joke out of asking us for IDs, saying "You're good" in a way that someone maybe freshly 21 himself probably wouldn't). When I asked about the size of the small pitcher of margaritas (since it was the same cost as the big margarita- I think 48 or 46 oz), he couldn't tell me, but when I pointed out that they were the same price, he told me that the big single margarita was bigger. When I asked for that, he told me there was only one glass left (uh, ok). After our meals and drinks, we each ordered a 12 oz beer, and mine was smaller than my friend's! When I pointed it out, the server made an excuse that he pulled the glasses from the top. I would never choose La Hacienda for dinner, or whatever. I might go if that's where everyone else wants to go. I've always gone before just to have a drink with friends if they were eating because I always felt their food was a bit bland. I have a feeling that there wasn't any tequila in my margarita this last time, though. A HUGE margarita (I had to sit up kinda high just to drink out of the straw- We joked about sitting on some phone books), and then I had a beer. You'd think I would have felt a little tipsy. The only reason I'd go back is if my friends want to go and I can't convince them to go somewhere else.

I'm probably biased, because I come from what is probably the best Midwestern city for Mexican food - Chicago. Indianapolis Mexican food is mostly lacking at best, but La Hacienda does manage to make some passable fare. The refried beans are really good, but I will never understand why tacos at this place don't come with fixings. And no, a pile of cilantro and limes are not fixings! I am a fan of the carnitas and the carne asada, and their chips and salsa are really good! The service is usually excellent and very prompt. While it is decent for Indianapolis, I am not sure it would stand up outside the city. I will say that the best thing about this place is the weird building it is in, which is surrounded by a mostly abandoned shopping area. It's like being in the middle of a Mad Max style Apocalyptic wasteland. So drive your Interceptor down to east Washington street - that part of Indy probably isn't that far off from Bartertown anyway! La Hacienda is decent Mexican food in a semi questionable looking environment, it just adds to the appeal if you have a sense of adventure.

I'm not saying it's the best, but it beats that Puerto Vallarta place that all the Hoosiers I've met rant and rave about. We had one of the combo meals with a tostada, a taco and and enchilada and it was pretty decent. I'm very biased having grown up in Arizona and living in Texas for the past seven years, but I walked away from this place knowing that I'd come back. We even call this place the Haci and since there is more than one, this is the space-haci.

Delicious - I can only speak for carry out. I had passed this location many many times and it looks a little sketchy from the outside. I finally decided to go in and was greeted with friendly faces. I placed a carryout order and it was super fast and the food was amazing! The salsa is the perfect blend of spice. I can't wait to go back and dine in. Don't let the outside scare you away!

Great place for your Mexican Fix! Chicken Soup is always good. Bring your appetite of your having the soup because The Bowl is Big. Salsa has been spicy this last couple weeks! Not Too Hot though. Viva La Ha

They have no Mexican food ! I went with my family craving real Mexican food ! And we read "Mexican restaurant " and the waitress told us there was no real Mexican food ; because they don't bother on making it because of the fact that not many Hispanics eat here ... They said they don't even bother on making real Mexican food ! Wasted time I'm telling you!

This place is seemingly sketchy from the outside. Definitely a sleeper. It's cramped on the inside and kind of dark, but they had the right stuff where it counts. Import beers you'd expect at prices you'll appreciate. I got the pork tacos and they were on point. Came with lime, cilantro, onion and an amazing sauce. I would definitely hit this place up again and again.

Husband, daughter and I went to my mom and dads lastnight. When it was time to discuss dinner, La Hacienda was instantly what came to mind!! He got the beef tip quesadilla and I got my chicken!! It's the next day; my husband woke up at 8:30 and said, babe, I want some La Hacienda. Lol Later... It's only breakfast time!!

  • Taylor K.

Food was good, super fast. Our waiter sucked and was rude. He did not want to be there at all and was extremely lazy. We asked for a box and he deep sighed and sat down...brought our box after taking a short break...

Their food is out fast and still taste great. I ordered the arroz con pollo. It was delicious. Their portions are plenty to fill you up. The staff is friendly and the seating accommodates any size group. It is your ordinary Indianapolis Mexican restaurant. But for how speedy their service is, 4-stars is given without hesitation. I would suggest going there any time of day for fast delicious food. Hint: If you are a drinker, try a margarita. They're very adorable and quite tasty.

When I walked in I thought that I was in one of those dine in the dark places, but it turned out that wasn't the case and the place just had very poor lighting. I ordered a margarita pitcher "Texas style" (which apparently means top shelf for some reason) from our server who was almost definitely high. When it arrived, it was brown like a long island, so that was nice. When I walked into the bathroom I thought I had walked through some kind of portal that put me in a gritty western gas station bathroom. When I walked out my food had arrived, which was unfortunate because it sucked. Even though this place is octagonally shaped (the best shape for energy flow, according to Chris Traeger), I will not be back.

They must have done some work to this place (the interior) and cleaned it up because it seemed fine to me when I was there. i love the exterior of the joint though, the awkwardly colored octagon and the end of the vast, scary parking lot with funky had painted cocktails on the windows? I am so in. The service that I experienced was good. The food was your standard Americanized Mexican joint food, which I sometimes super duper crave. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. I got chips and cheese, combo # whatever looked good that day, and a margarita. I got a standard marg, but I am curious to try the Texas version. I will go back next time I get the craving.

Only go there if you like to sit in the dark while you eat your cheese dish smothered in sauce. Their salsa and margaritas were great, but I thought there might be more meat than cheese and red sauce.

Time to update my review and recognize some major upgrades at my favorite local Mexican joint. If you haven't been there in a while, you won't recognize it when you walk in. They replaced all of the furniture and it is now bright and cheerful inside. They also replaced the menus, though I think most of the entrees are the same. And even the grumpy employee has been less grumpy lately. I'm really happy to upgrade my review of this place, as it is my favorite hangout on the Eastside!

One thing in my mind when I walk in is QUESO,QUESO,QUESO. Every time I go there I go there I always get QUESO. That's what I highly recommend.their food is always delicious. I gave it four stars because we were going to eat it was beautiful so we walked and brought our dog but on the patio there were no dogs allowed so we had to walk all the way back home and then drive so don't bring you dog

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
