I've been going to Hoaglins for about a year now but have never written a review. This is my go to spot for breakfast! It's affordable, good, and the food comes relatively fast. If it doesn't the wait staff is very apologetic and they honestly care about their customers. Their homemade bagels are my favorite bagels. Get the everything bagel if you are a bagel fan! The Mass Ave is my go to order here. I highly recommend getting here before 10 on the weekends or you will have a wait. Of course, if you do have a wait Silver in the City is a great place to kill some time and distract yourself from how hungry you are.

This was my first time eating at Hoaglin To Go. From service to food everything was great. I had the Mediterranean chicken wrap and chips. I was a little suspect when I ordered but since I'm trying to decrease my bread intake, sandwiches were out of the question. I'm planning to use my cheat day to come back for the French toast! Needless to say, the wrap was extremely delicious and filling. The servers kept checking back with us so we wanted for nothing.

I've heard quite a bit about this place and went for a work breakfast meeting. I got the bagel and lox - and was pleasantly surprised. They give you a LOT of lox. I've never had so much before and couldn't even finish my bagel! I will say, the lox they gave, however, was not my favorite. I prefer a smoky flavor and this was rather boring. Also got the pepper-or-something potatoes, which came in an au gratin style. Far too hot for me (spice-hot) but texture and taste was otherwise quite good. Prices are a bit upscale, but that's what happens on Mass Ave.

It is really sad to see when the service at a local favorite starts to go down hill. We were in the restaurant on a busy Sunday. The food smelled great but unfortunately we were unable to experience the food...after waiting for our order for 35 minutes with no follow up from the waitress we got up and left. I sent an email to the restaurant manager about my experiences but never received a response. So sad...

We visited Hoaglin To Go on Saturday morning after being in town for the night. Holy cow, was this place good! It is a quaint cafe located on Mass Ave downtown Indy. It is fairly small, so I can imagine this place gets pretty busy on a Sunday morning. Luckily we were able to walk right in and grab a table for a party of 5 this morning! We were greeted immediately and our server took our drink order. I ordered a hot chocolate with whipped cream and my boyfriend ordered a coffee. The rest of the party ordered hot chocolate and diet cokes. The hot chocolate was DELICIOUS! It had a very smooth and creamy milk chocolate taste (it was made with milk) plus it had tons of whipped cream - whooo hooo! My boyfriend said the coffee was a little on the bold side, fresh and hot, just a little on the strong side. The only thing is my hot chocolate could have been just a smidgen hotter. We looked over the menus while we waiting on our drinks and we ready to order once our server delivered the last drink. Our orders were french toast with berries, biscuits & gravy, belgian waffles with berries, yogurt with homemade granola and eggs benedict. I personally ordered the french toast and it was yummy! The coating on the french toast was perfectly balanced with sweetness and cinnamon. I also added a side of bacon and it was thick cut and full of maple flavor. My boyfriend got the biscuits & gravy and they were suuuuuper spicy - and I mean cayenne spicy...holy make me cough after one bite batman! I wasn't prepared for that, but they were good! The rest of the crew said their food was good as well. Parking is located directly in front of the restaurant and is a little limited. If it is busy I can see where finding a spot to park might be an issue. We would definitely stop in here and eat again!

This place is a favorite for our whole family. The kids plates are huge (enough for 2) and just as high quality as the regular menu. One of my favorites, is the signature omelet, it has Smoking Goose bacon in it, goat cheese, and sun dried tomato pesto. Go, you will not be disappointed.

This place was pretty good. It was a little over priced for what we got...I would compare this place to Panera. Nothing out of the ordinary. The best part of my meal was the tomato soup had chicken inside it. It was very creamy, and had delicious pieces of shredded chicken throughout. Other than that, it was a ordinary sandwich shop.

I'm not saying I will never be coming back to this place but I honestly think this is the biggest example of a restaurant's version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I visit one weekend and it's great and the next it's just ridiculous service and even worse food. One day I come I. and get a great quiche and the next weekend it it's chicken quiche. Chicken quiche on Easter Sunday? They were known for their quiches but the last 3 times I've stopped in to eat, there's no way I'd order the quiche they have on the menu. The seating is also been changed in a very pigs arrangement where you literally can hearers conversation around you which is very annoying even for brunch.

While my car was being serviced on Delaware Street, I decided to wonder over to Mass. Ave for a mini adventure. Two reasons I wondered over to Mass Ave.: I was bored and didn't want to sit in the car service lobby; AND I was hungry (stomach was growling). I originally set out to just go to Starbucks - that little walk up window on Mass Ave is fancy - but I passed Hoaglin to Go and it basically trumped me continuing to get a Latte (Sorry Starbucks, you'll get my money next time I'm sure). I walked into Hoaglin to Go and was immediately seated, given water and a menu. This waitress was on point. She even offered suggestions of what to try on the menu. I actually chose her french toast suggestion: Courtney's Crunchy Peanut Butter French Toast (Mmm-mmm- good!). I love PB minus the J sandwiches (don't judge me, lol), so I decided to try it out. I must say, once I received my order, it was delicious! Brioche French toast stuffed with creamy PB and crushed peanuts, powdered sugar, and strawberries on top! Can I have seconds if I finish this?! Also I had a side of bacon ( a little burnt but I was hungry and didn't care at the moment) with a cup of mint green tea. I also enjoyed people watching while I sat next to the window. I would give 5 stars but I took one because of the bacon, aside from that good service, great atmosphere, and even great music playing in the background as I ate (I was grooving to NSync - Tearin' up my Heart, as I ate....again don't judge me). This place will definitely get another trip back from this pleased customer.

I used to live in Indianapolis, and I wanted to go to one of my fave old coffee shops for a coffee on Sunday morning only to find it was closed.. How sad! So we went to Mass Ave, hoping to check out my old fave record store LUNA, WHAT this LUNA location was closed as well! Now I'm in dire need of coffee! Two of my old stomping grounds gone! So we asked a local where to get a good cup of brew and maybe some breakfast! They sent us to Hoaglin! And I'm glad they did! The place was pretty packed but we got a seat right away, and the coffee came in droves to our table! Super good coffee, with free refills! My kinda place! Ashley got some breakfast and was super excited about the size and the taste of her Yogurt/Granola dish! I stuck to the coffee which ruled! The service was great, the layout is modern and cool, the music they were playing was rad, and everyone in there was smiling! If this place would have been here in 2004/2005 when I lived in Indy I would have been a regular here! I dig it!

This is by far my favorite breakfast/lunch place in the city. The food is so real and comforting! The portions are huge and I never leave hungry! Courtney and the staff will always make sure you enjoy. Definitely try the biscuits and gravy or Mass Ave (with bacon unless you're silly and prefer sausage) for breakfast and Courtney's special for lunch. The butternut squash soup is amazing. It's a hidden gem on the avenue that makes bad days better.

Good menu, tasty selections but slooooooow service. Known for varieties of eggs benedict. No disappointment here. Good location. If you call ahead they will add your name to the list.

I ate here today prior to the Pride Parade, as has been my tradition for several years past. It has been a while since my last visit so I was excited to give it a try again. First off, I was a little disappointed they they didn't have any pride-themed menu items this year, but alas, it's not like there wasn't still plenty of food to choose from. My friends got eggs Benedict and said it was wonderful. No complaints there and I will take their word for it. Another friend ordered the French toast with sourdough bread. I felt like I could have definitely made better French toast at home. I'm not an award winning chef, but I don't play when it comes to breakfast. There was nothing spectacular about it except the texture was pretty crisp. I got the country scramble with sweet potato and poblano hash and a mimosa. The mimosa came in a cylinder that looked like a single flower vase. The neither the orange juice or the champagne really stood out. I felt like I was drinking a watered down orange soda. The poblano hash is not worth $5. It's MAYBE 4oz of sweet potato with small bits of poblano and onion. A hint of spice, but I'd stick with the other potato options. The scramble was tasty but my dad makes better biscuits and gravy using a prepackaged Bob Evans diner recipe so again, not the best. The atmosphere was great. Clean. Friendly. The coffee was good. The food wasn't terrible, I just had higher expectations, having remembered it being better in the past.

I have been wanting to go here forever!! I'm never downtown for breakfast, but I was this last Saturday! Happily, my friend ordered the red velvet stack so my dream came true of trying these delectable pancakes filled with chocolate chips and topped with cream cheese icing. Heaven. I ordered a pomegranate mimosa and it was beautifully served in a tall, delicate glass. The omelette was calling my name and the potatoes. Oh my God. The potatoes. Creamy, au gratiny, peppery goodness in my mouth. The whole wheat toast was also buttered perfectly. I will now make it a point to come downtown just so I can go here!

Have visited multiple times (5+) and have never been disappointed by the staff or by the food! In my opinion the food outshines Yolk by a long shot and is just as good (if not better) than Patachou. MENU STARS: -Any omelette - MUST get with trio of roasted potatoes! Literally the best breakfast potatoes I've had in my life. Plus the omelette was fluffy and huge and perfect! -Breakfast Salad. I know, I know, who wants salad for breakfast? But I know my way around a salad since I eat vegan about 90% of the time and this is an amazing choice if you aren't feeling regular breakfast fare. The dressing was superb! -East Meets West Hummus Sandwich - You've never had a pickled vegetable until you've had the pickled eggplant in this sandwich. Satisfies a mean salt & vinegar craving like no other. Wait staff have always been very attentive and are easily agreeable to customizing orders and helping customers! This is my number one favorite place for no-nonsense, unpretentious breakfast food that's made right!

hmmm, this place is not quite what it used to be. The fun, cool atmosphere seems more greasy-spoon diner and the food is not quite the same. The menu is different, but the crowd-pleasing staples are still there.

I had a work meeting here, and it was my first experience with Hoaglin's although I had heard really great things. I was a little stressed at first because it is a VERY intimate space, and the seats are very close together. So for a work meeting it was a little tight. Not to mention that I'm tall, so a restaurant that has smaller tables very close together leaves little room for the giant that I am. Leaving me a bit claustrophobic and terrified that my knee would have a runaway moment and knock the table over... but alas, enough about my own insecurities. Onto the important stuff, THE FOOD! I had a chicken salad sandwich and it was good! I'd say it landed in my top 5 favorite chicken salad sandwiches of all time! The staff was friendly and the overall experience was great. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if I'm downtown it's definitely a great place to grab some lunch!

I've gone back. It is a new'ish menu. My favorites are generally still there but the pommes have changed. They are a jalapeno and carmelized onion au gratin vs. traditional now. While I saw no jalapeno in mine they did have a bit of spice and the onion was not overpowering so they are still a thumbs up. Everyone enjoyed their meal - we had lunch and breakfast at the table. If you've never checked the place out, you're missing a rock solid breakfast/lunch. Average meal price is still $10/person including the oatmeal and a side breakfast ($9.50) so keep that in mind. Only suggestion now is to not let someone put up the special board who can't spell! "Spicey" "Avacado" "Frenc" are three of the six misspelling on it the last time I went!

Really good biscuits and gravy from someone who is picky about biscuits and gravy. Good taters (pommes anna), too. Bacon was a little burnt, but no one is perfect. It was overall pretty good too. Service, good but a teensy bit frazzled. Not that it was necessarily a fault to her though, it was off the chain busy. Fun atmosphere but it's a little too small for the size of the crowd the brunch attracts. Good call on taking numbers and calling when the table is ready though. I like your style, host guy. I don't like that the bathroom opens right up to the dining room though, that's just asking for it. When I was there, they could not serve alcohol in any form. A brunch sans a mimosa? They are lucky they got as many stars as they did from me on a count of this. The food is the main reason I would return.

"It's not often that the word 'crunk-tacular' applies to a brunch place... but Hoaglin is pretty crunk-tacular." (Thanks, Peter.) My weekend getaway to the Circle City wrapped up with a trip to Hoaglin, and it was an excellent farewell meal. I ordered the Red Velvet Pancakes, which were just about as artificially colored and sugar-coma-inducing as a girl could ask for. The order was 3 very nicely sized pancakes, which were more than I could handle. Luckily, I had two guys with me to finish them for me. The bacon I ordered as a salty complement was a generous portion and perfectly cooked (by my standards: still slightly floppy but crispy all around). The guys went savory this weekend. The usual brunch companion got the Country Scramble, which featured a pleasantly spicy sausage gravy. Fun fact: if there's a wait, which there probably will be, they take your phone number and call you. No buzzers. This was a nice thing.

What a great place to eat at in the city! I love the signature omelet, bring a friend as there is plenty to share. Hoaglin's is right on Mass ave, so grab a table by the window and people watch to your heart's content.

Attentive service that keeps the coffee topped off. Get a side of potatoes with gruyere or the applewood smoked bacon if you're only a little hungry. With the variety of specialty coffee's available, there's something for everyone.

We went there for breakfast. I found the menu hard to sort through. It's mainly omelette breakfasts. If you just want your standard farmer eggs and bacon breakfast, it's all ala carte. Rather expensive for breakfast. The bill was just about $60 for 2 adults and a small child that just ate off of our plates. Everything we ate was very good though. The bacon, sausage, and sour dough toast were especially good. We tried the red velvet pancakes. I wasn't that wild about them. Our server was very friendly. The girl at the next table was very loud and spoke like a Valley Girl....liiike Oh ma God....

This place is great for breakfast! The restaurant itself is really small and most tables only seat 2-4 people, so don't bring a crowd. It also gets busy on the weekends, so get up early and go. The coffee is awesome and they are constantly refilling it. It's super strong too. I've had lunch there once, but I think their breakfast it tops!! Whether you're in the mood for sweet or savory, they've got an extensive menu that satisfies all. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because the quality of the Eggs Benedict has gone down over the last couple years. It used to be my favorite meal in Indianapolis and I would order it almost every week. Unfortunately, the hollandaise sauce has become watery and extremely sparse, so I've been taking my chances on some of the other menu items. If they could remedy that, I'd be there every weekend.

Excellent weekend brunch menu. If you have an especially big sweet tooth for breakfast you must try the red velvet pancakes. Can't beat the wide variety of mimosa flavor choices and omelet or Benedict of the week. Just tried their seasonal drink s'mores hot chocolate and it was amazing! Only downfall is the weekend wait time can be lengthy and unfortunately there isn't much standing room for waiting inside...but that turns into a perfect opportunity to shop the mass ave shops to keep warm hole waiting for a table.

First visit to this place. Have lived in Fishers for many years but embarrassed to admit just now being introduced to Mass Ave restaurants. Was recommended this place by concierge (Lee Ann) from Conrad hotel. Was very pleased! Our waitress (Dee Dee) was very pleasant and informative. I got the Turkey Sandwich at her recommendation and it was delicious. My wife and I visit Chicago frequently and love all of the quant little original restaurants. Little did I know we have one much closer! We'll definitely be visiting again and again.

Absolutely the best brunch in Indianapolis. Not only great food and happy vibe, but a trip to Mass Ave on the weekend can make for fun shopping and just an overall good outing. Locals are all over this place, but my review might be more for out-of-towners; worth a few blocks if you're staying in a hotel downtown.

This place is just great. I can't speak much for the lunch items, as I've fallen so hard for their breakfast items that I can't bring myself to possibly order lunch. Their specials are always delicious and unique (red velvet pancakes? are you serious?!). The Mass Ave egg sandwich on an everything bagel and pommes anna on the side is my favorite dish (even though I know I will be cursed with seeds in my teeth if I forget my floss). Their hot chai latte? Yummiest! I've never once had an issue with the service, even when very busy. I agree that taking a cell number when they're on a wait is a genius thing. You can shop around Mass ave while you wait!

Hard to find a better place for brunch. Their Mass Ave bagel sandwich is incredible. It's a small cafe, but they offer a lot of choices. The coffee is great and the prices are reasonable.

Wow, is this place super popular! We waited about half an hour on a Sunday morning, but it was worth it. Their omelet ingredients seemed interesting, but the omelets in general are very overpriced. I always want eggs for breakfast but because of the price, I went with the red velvet stacks, a special that day. Yes, these were red velvet pancakes cooked with chocolate chips and topped with cream cheese frosting. I almost didn't eat anything for the rest of the day they were so filling, PLUS I got very sleepy a few hours later -- way too much sugar! But boy, were they tasty!

Something is amiss at Hoaglins. I used to eat lunch here at least once a month. Due to some "having a baby" circumstances & maternity leave & pumpin' the milk, I haven't been eating there as much as I used to. Today, I decided to take a break from the usual eating at my desk grind at work, to enjoy a lunch out with a friend. Sadly, I feel we chose the wrong place on our usual lunch spot list & we may even take it off the list. First off, and this really has no affect on the rating-I'm just noting it, the blinds were drawn. Hoaglins NEVER pulls the shades down on those windows! Blind us with sunny sunshine, Hoaglins. Please. :) Secondly, the usual waiters were not there. Maybe they were on vacation? Maybe they partied it up too much last night? Who knows. What we were left with was a cranky woman who kind of smirked at my coffee order and spent time placing silverware on empty tables while our food sat in the window in the kitchen. Thirdly...where did the cakes & pastries go? 4th! Why does it take 20 godforsaken minutes to make a friggin ham & cheese croissantwich with a side of chips? 5th. Speaking of chips, where is the cauliflower-bacon salad side I ordered? You know, on second thought? After the $3ish cappuccino and $9 sandwich. I think I don't really want to take you up on the $3 upcharge cauliflower salad. Just forget about it. 6th. You would think that after taking 20 minutes to make my sandwich, you'd have melted the frickin' cheese right on my Ham & Swiss. At least that's how the old Hoaglins used to throw down. 7th. My friend had the chicken salad. Grapes are not currants. In her defense, the waitress did take a little off my bill since she forgot my cauliflower salad. And she acted apologetic when she brought us our bill. We'll see. I would definitely like to try out their breakfast for lunch deal at some point. Maybe that will bring me back around? MMmmmmm....bacon could definitely change a girl's mind.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I've been here twice and both experiences have been awful. The first time I went the service was poor and the food was very greasy. Went back today to give it a second shot and had an even worse experience. Ordered take out and when we got to the restaurant to pay, the credit card machine was working slowly. Fine, no big deal. Waiting for 15 min only to find out it wasn't working at all. Finally told the gal I would just leave my food and take my card back because I had to get back to work. She went to tell a waitress about it and the waitress got very angry and stormed off. The hostess evidently went to talk to the manager about it, but came back saying she couldn't find the manager. So I ended up leaving my sandwich at the restaurant and now have to find something else for lunch. VERY poor customer service and food isn't that great anyway.

Hoaglin is a tasty breakfast spot in a downtown that I feel does not have enough delicious morning eateries. I tend to gravitate towards the omelet which is always tasty. I have heard the au gratin potatoes are the way to go....but I can never resist the roasted ones. Everything I have seen come out of the kitchen looks good and I promise I am getting the French toast next time. The coffee is endless, the wait staff is friendly and there is Siracha. Notes: It is a pretty small spot which I like....but it can be crowded for weekend breakfasts. They also have lunch, which I think I had once and was not disappointed with. Tasty food in a great spot.

I LOVE this places breakfasts, best breakfasts in town. I usually go on Sundays for their brunch, its always packed. Food is great, its a little more than most places but so much food and very high quality, unique tastes and THICK bacon, probably some of the best bacon Ive ever had, usually I cant finish everything and I like to eat! Plan on spending about $10-15 per person. My only real complaint is the service is completely hit or miss, there are some waiters/waitresses who are great and are very good, last time I went in there our waiter wouldnt even refill our drinks and our food took forever, they should have someone when they are busy where their main job is just to be backup for the busy servers and do little things like refill drinks, I felt like I had to hound them to get my water and my friends coffee refilled. I will still leave a good review as you should check this place out, I just hope they can get their server issues figured out or hire a few more.

I love this spot for lunch! Most of the time I order the Salad 3 Ways, a scoop of egg, tuna and chicken salad on mixed greens and it's fantastic. I usually pass on the egg portion and get two kinds of chicken salad. The soups each day are wonderful as well. I've had some other salads and sandwiches as well and they've all been good. Service has consistently been good here each time I've been.

It's a funny thing for me, breakfast. I rarely make it or eat it at home, but I love to go out for it. We have a few regular spots but have deviated a couple of times and gone to Hoaglin. The food? Good. Eating the good food under the seductive gaze of a faceless woman in a Kyle Ragsdale painting? Life changing. Don't ask me how a faceless woman can have a seductive gaze. I can't explain it myself, but she does. I'm a fan of the "Mass Ave", which is a toasted "everything" bagel with scrambled egg, cheddar cheese, and two strips of applewood smoked bacon. Speaking of bacon, let's talk about it for a minute, troops. Anybody else tired of breakfast joints offering the rubbery matter that is so thin you can practically see through it? I don't even eat that crap anymore. You don't have to worry about that here. This stuff is thick and tastes like bacon should. It's like the bacon grandma used to fix on the farm. I've also tried the Pommes Anna Gratin twice and personally, I think the idea is better than the execution. These potatoes are a little lifeless and bland to me. The service is OK but not great. We had to ask for drink refills but the waitress was friendly and offered a drink to go. I'm OK with average or worse service if the attitude is good. I'm sure we'll be back again at some point in the future. Hoaglin isn't going to jump to the top of our list for breakfast spots, but it's good enough to revisit.

If you want to start off your morning with a self-induced food coma, then Hoaglin's is a place you should check out. It's difficult to show restraint when there are so many great choices on the menu. I typically go with some sort of pancake since at Hoaglin's, the pancake has it's own food group. Yes, they are *that* good. Add in some bacon, some potatoes and before you know it you will be swearing that you are going to skip lunch because there is no way possible that you'll be hungry by then. I wish they had a larger space, it's tough to get in and out quickly for breakfast on the weekends. But for breakfast this good, I'm usually willing to wait a little bit.

I opted not to stand up and sing my own rendition of an Amy Grant tune, "baby, baby, I can see you slackin'," within the Hoaglin eatery, pointed toward our server. Although...I think Amy Grant would've appreciated my strong moral stance against such lacks service. Now, look at the yuppie conundrum up there: 4 stars but awful service? How's he heel-clicking on the inside "Yay! I'm a fan?" The FOOD. If food were ever put up to the test to stand alone, to stand above poor service, this was it. Now...you're thinking "Hoaglin, poor service? Hmmmm..." You're thought's right...I watched everyone else be granted an amazing server, and we were benefiting from runners and the on-top-of-it Host (and really, great form on taking a cell number to call when the table's ready). However, our server was just not up to snuff on this Memorial Day lunch rush. 7-10 minute wait before she showed up, no water (I was like a beached Jersey Shore kid in Cairo). We ordered everything at once to wisely gain some clock time back. The food didn't take too long, but that's the coffee talkin'. "Best Omelette of my life," was uttered by my tablemate. I nursed my "pommes anna" potatoes -- it took me 20 minutes to finish 'em, like a long glass of scotch -- because they're just as rare. When do you see au gratin potatoes out at restaurants? When do you see them at all? My Mom used to make them, yet knows if she would at this point...the au gratin is the superior potato prep & the vastly under appreciated one to boot. Incredible spice to the homemade gravy. The biscuit loved being homemade it had homemade written all over it (well cooked, deep golden, not that packaged fluffiness) and I loved it for being homemade. I walked by this place when it was empty and it just looked...Ikea. Then, when I came and it was packed...it felt great. An open, well-lit, well music'd, lively spot -- just what I want for brunch! Don't stuff me with your 'tude...stuff me with your grub! Good form Hoaglin', good, good form. Now just add Bloody Mary's to the mix if I have to deal with what the server was up to. Front Porch, bloody mary cart anyone, anyone? This is a catering company isn't it? This can't be too-far fetched....

Just had Hoaglin to go ordered in for our office. I had the Tuna Salad (in Salad form) and it was really good. Maybe not the absolute best meal I've had in my life but certainly tasty and certainly a LARGE portion. I also tasted my co-workers egg salad which was also delicious. All of the other sandwiches that ordered look quite pleasing! I'm looking forward to trying the grilled cheese on sourdough or perhaps the filet of beef baguette or some soup? Who know...I'll be back though!

So nearly every day I pass by the ole Hoaglin TO-GO and think to myself..."I really need to check that place out." So, I finally acted on those impulses that came naturally when passing a restaurant with such an pleasing appearance I was immediately greeted and sat at a small table by the window. So far going great. The server brought out a water when greeting me which is a nice touch in the summer. I ordered my usual drink, an Americano. It arrived shortly steaming hot. I began to think that they must Yelp, the service was definitely not what their reviews were saying. (this is one of my favorite things about Yelp, being able to fix things you are doing wrong.) I ordered the Hoaglin Signature Omelette - Sun Dried Tomato Pesto Torte, sauteed red onions & applewood smoked bacon $9.75 The dish arrived in a reasonable amount of time and looked great. By now I had been able to try my Americano, I could not be sure it was not simply brewed coffee. It was nearly tasteless. I may have ruined my palate by making so many of them myself, but that's just my excuse. It should have been better. Digging in to my omelette was another thing all together. The Sun Dried Tomato Pesto was almost a good thing, there was not any to be seen though. I believe there had to have been a whole red onion diced into the thing. No big deal, Ill just push some of them aside. The pommes anna was also a great thing that simply wasn't. They were dry and tasteless. the top layer was a bit cheesy but it went no further. I ended up stuffed with most of my plate intact. I simply had lost my enthusiasm. So... great job on the service and menu. Now make the menu come true and be back to give ya another shot. But, not until I see some new reviews from Yelpers saying that its worth another go.

Hoaglin signature omlette is the winner here with the pommes anna, only complaint - chairs not very comfortable, but the food more than makes up for the seats.

Make sure to check the menu of the day as there are some great non-regular items! Also if you order the veggie bagel sandwich, beware of the amount of cream cheese...

What happened? My favorite breakfast place has lost it's identity. I loved coming here for the country scramble but the food quality is not what it used to be, the portion size is smaller and not the same presentation; the potatoes Anna have been replaced by an over spiced breakfast potato. Do fix what isn't broken. The only positive think from this experience was I didn't have to wait for a table. coincidence or a sign of the future of what was once a great restaurant?

I've been here twice, and I've been very impressed both times. The food is really, really good-my only complaint is that maybe the eggs were a bit too done, but that's better than not done enough (and it's really nitpicky on my part). My mocha was delicious, served with biscotti, which is a nice touch. There is a large, varied menu and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.

The creamy Ham & Broccoli soup is AMAZING. I can't be bothered with anything else until I finished it and still couldn't believe it's THAT amazing! Give me more, not just a small bowl of it. I also had a signature pesto turkey sandwich and it was really good too. The buns are soft, toasted with shredded cheese on top and it was a generous amount of portion that I have to take the other half sandwich to go. The prices are as good as the food too. I had a sandwich, cafe Au Lait and a small bowl of soup all totaled up to $17 including tax. The cafe itself looked very refreshing and modern looking, just the kind of place for breakfast and brunch after a sleep in.

WOW! This place was fantastic! Recently there was a magazine that was out for the Super Bowl called "Indiana 2012 Travel Guide: Super 46 Sandwiches." Hoaglin To Go was in there for it's PB&J. So we decided to go check it out. You can't get the PB&J on the weekend, but that didn't slow us down. It took us forever to decide what we wanted because everything sounded so good. We also kept seeing other people's food come out looking amazing. I got the Southwest Eggs Benedict, cheddar jalapeno bread, poached eggs and a spicy hollandaise sauce. With the Pommes Anna Gratin potatoes. They were this cheesy, creamy, best ever potato. I also got one piece of vanilla french toast with strawberries and a dollop of sweet butter cream, because breakfast is the hardest choice; Sweet or Savory!!!???!!! My friend got the Signature Omelette, sun dried tomato torte, red onion, and bacon. She also got the same potatoes and one Red Velvet pancake. EVERYTHING, literally every bite, was so incredibly tastey! The food wasn't really heavy or greasy so even though we ate too much, we didn't feel awful. The staff was upbeat, helpful, and friendly. They seemed to genuinely like working there. They were also attentive - refills, spills (a table over), and bills. . . they were on top of it! It's a little pricey, but worth every penny. I tipped about 25% and my bill was about $22 total. I will absolutely be going here again. This may be my new favorite breakfast/brunch location. YAY! You guys killed it!

I had the Caprese Benedict. French Baguette with balsamic fresh tomatoes mozzarella basil poached eggs with hollandaise. What an awesome version of the traditional Eggs Benedict. I loved it!

I think this place rocked and was pleasantly surprised to find a great spot like this in Indy! I helped move my brother down to the University of Indianapolis this fall and a gay friend of mine had suggested that we try Hoaglin's for brunch. I do brunch with my friends very regularly in Chicago; and this place is 2nd to my favorite place in Chicago which is M. Henry. Very similar and great food! We each had a different item and shared while we were there...and only had to wait for about 20 minutes on a Sunday morning and I was pretty happy with that. There were some benches out in front to sit on and parking was easy. The service was good and efficient and the food was delicious! I'm going to visit this coming weekend again and plan to do Hoaglins again with my family.

Hoaglin - an all around superior culinary experience. We were blessed with Lauren, our server, the most kind and engaging person I've met in a long time. The food was certainly tremendous, however it was the customer service that made this dining adventure truly memorable. In sum, she was the bee's knees. The cat's meow. The giraffe's laugh. Thank you Lauren and Hoaglin for making this the best Saturday of my life.

Visited Hoaglin To Go on a whim after service at Robert Park Methodist Church this past Sunday. It was close, convenient and inviting. First things first, the space is tight but I think that feature makes it a novelty. Kind of that " get there early to get a seat" mentality. We had about a 5 minute wait before being seated which was perfect timing because a flood of diners came in and waited for a good while before getting seated. Another thing to know is that there are no seats when waiting, it's standing room only. No biggie at all, just something to be prepared for. I ordered coffee, my guest had OJ. Watch which size of OJ you order because if you don't specify you'll get the large glass which is about $4 and some change. Coffee is great - nice bold, smooth flavor. While waiting for food we were able to enjoy the great and what appeared to be, local art, on the walls. Very contemporary feel to the otherwise very white, sterile environment. In terms of food, I had the Mass Ave. It was phenom, but I am a sucker for a classic everything bagel loaded down with meat, egg and cheese. But you know what was even better? The jalapeo & caramelized onion potatoes. Seriously - breakfast heaven. In my opinion, they are much better than the trio of potatoes, but I'll leave the choosing to you. Staff is friendly and prompt, despite being completely maxed out.

Hoaglin is, dare I say it, better than Cafe Patachou for brunch. Are the pitchforks coming at me yet? I say this without any malice toward Patachou, and with the full knowledge that they will continue to get swamped Sunday mornings with huge families in tow. They have a massive menu of options and they know what they're doing. But Hoaglin's french toast beats theirs hands down. The fancy round croissant french toast sprinkled with pecans and powdered sugar of Cafe Patachou quivers before the mighty banana nut french toast concoction that is magically created in the kitchens of Hoaglin. I don't know what they do to it to make it taste so spectacular but GIVE IT TO ME. GIVE IT TO ME GOOD. If you have any further questions, please refer to the french toast picture I snapped mere milliseconds before it was all gobbled up and the plate licked clean.

This is my favorite restaurant! I love breakfast and they rule at it. The coffee is awesome, the art on the walls is always changing and the wait staff are accommodating. Healthy and delicious exists here! If you aren't sure what to get, try the 'Big O' (omelette) or the quiche of the day (with fresh berries on the side).

EAT HERE!! Seriously good. We came around 11:30am on Sunday and there was a wait. We put in our name and looked around the cool shops on Mass Ave. They called us on our cell phone when our table was ready. Lauren, our waitress, was perfect--attentive, accommodating, laid back, and fun. The atmosphere is pretty basic...not where they are putting their efforts because here its all about the food!! It was Valentine's Day weekend so we decided to celebrate and split an order of the red velvet pancakes, and we also split the twisted turkey club. Crazy delcious food!! It was "Oh my gosh" kind of food. There is no question we will be back!

I've been here several times and its not my favorite. The service is kind of spotty. The people who work here are generally nice but they really don't have a strong idea of how to be servers. Filling water glasses, checking on customers before and after food is delivered, bringing out drinks and other food items in a timely manner..... Something that was a pleasant surprise here - the croisant I ordered w/my coffee (while waiting for my main breaky plate to arrive) was toasted and buttered. This was a noticable touch to how I was expecting it to be served - cold, on a plate - quite the opposite! Nice going, Hoaglin! The food is not really anything awesome. Some of their breakfast items are recalling desserts. I love sweets, but the red velvet pancakes and other breakfast items similar to this are a little over the top for me - I would order it as a fun dessert but to have as an entire breakfast entre is really too much sweet. I think my few visits here confirmed that I can do everything on this menu better myself at home. It was not a terrible experience by any means but just a little more money than I cared to pay for what I actually experienced and got on my plate.

One or two years ago, I probably would have given Hoaglin To Go five stars. I really loved this place, but the past four or so visits have been less than great. I still love the food, that hasn't changed, but the service is... not good. The last time we were there I was particularly fed up with the insane wait times (not to be seated, but after we are seated.) Normally, if it's busy and our food is taking forever to come out, I make the best of things by ordering a brunch cocktail and just relaxing with my group. This time, however, from start to finish, it seemed like we didn't have a server. It took ten minutes after we were seated for anyone to bring us water, and even after that, it took another ten minutes to place our drink order. I'm not sure if there was section confusion, but I can say that this type of thing has been a regular problem lately. I became very frustrated when we'd long since drained our water and our drinks, and it had been 45 minutes since we'd ordered. I would not have been so annoyed if we could have at least ordered another drink, but no one came over to check. When I finally flagged down our original waitress, I asked her to please make sure that our meal was still coming. It was nearing an hour and we were very close to just going somewhere else at this point. When she returned, she said our food would be out shortly, and that "she couldn't comp anything because we ordered something that took the longest to prepare (steak sandwich.)" I never asked for anything to be comped, I expressed that we were frustrated by the wait times, the inattentive service, and the inability just to order some drinks during our extended wait. I've NEVER been the type to demand things be taken off of my check (unless something was really wrong with the food, and I didn't want to re-order) so the servers rude reaction was puzzling on top of the entire ordeal. After our food came, she explained that they'd take my meal off , but they couldn't do anything about the sandwich, again "because it takes the longest to cook." I told her thanks, we appreciate the gesture (even though they somehow still made the apology sound rude?) but that it didn't really change the negative experience we had. Although I was a loyal customer for years, the last few visits have made think hard about whether or not I'd want to recommend this place to a friend, or bring a group here. I don't mind slow service as long as my experience is still enjoyable over all, and I haven't really enjoyed a visit here in a long time.

Not impressed with the service or the food. Not the worst, but not the best. Empty restaurant at lunch. Waited 10 minutes before being greeted. Food - blahhh. Potatoes were weird, not great. Had better florentine in my own kitchen. Expensive for eggs and an english muffin.

I do like this place, but it's not what it used to be. I ordered the eggs and bacon sandwich and my husband ordered the steak sandwich. While the sandwiches were good, the bread just seemed "okay". It wasn't the homemade, thick bread they used to have. The pommes aren't what they used to be either. Kinda greasy. But all in all, I would still come here.

I went here for lunch with a friend yesterday and it really hit the spot! We started off with a cup of fruit and toasted croissant, then i ordered the turkey & applewood smoked bacon sandwhich, which came with kettle chips and a pickle. Not the most incredible turkey bacon sandwich I've ever had, but I was still satisfied and it was a good amount of food. My meal ran about $10 but I ended up taking half of the sandwich home to finish later so I'd say the prices were reasonable. Service was decent. It didn't blow me away but our server was friendly and came back to check on us a good amount. The food came out REALLY quick - before we were able to finish our appetizer. Atmosphere was laid back -bright lighting and minimal decor. One thing I wasn't crazy about was how close together a lot of the tables seemed to be, however my friend and I were seated in a section further from the main crowd which was nice. Hoaglins is definitely a great casual lunch or brunch spot in the Mass Ave district of downtown Indy. I'm looking forward to going back to try the breakfast and Japanese style bloody Mary's!

Wow.. I generally skim reviews so I feel like I can make a contribution in mentioning something new .. but Torri M is right on the money. I WAS SO EXCITED for the Salmon Eggs Benedict. SO EXCITED! .. and sweet baby Jesus was it just a stick of salt. I can't believe I have to admit this. but I just had to set it aside. Me not eat salmon!?!? WHAA!?! WAA!!! :'( O well luckily everything else was delicious. The cafe au lait was fantastic, my friend's omelet was ooey gooey deliciousness. So overall a fav brunch spot, just stay away from the salmon eggs benedict (sadly). Food: 4/5 - (not including the salmon) Service: 2/5 Location: 4/5 - Very cute little place.

All of the things I love about breakfast. The red velvet stacks are out of this world. They might as well be flat cupcakes, oh my gosh. Feeling savory? ALL the benedicts. Really great twists on the traditional. Very good coffee and sometimes a bacon bloody mary. It's typically pretty packed with a bit of a wait on a Sunday morning but you can put in your phone number and walk around Mass Ave for a bit. You can easily spend the time shopping at Silver in the City and Global Gifts.

This place has gone down hill over the last few years. There was trash all over the floor that the staff just kept walking on, the music was distracting and noisy, the food was just meh, and the condition of the place was rough. Even the bathroom trash can was overflowing, yuck. Definitely better options near mass and in the city. The service was very pleasant and helpful, just couldn't make up for what was lacking in all other departments. I'm bummed, but it's just not what it used to be.

This is one of those reviews where I want to be creative and provide some constructive criticism to the owners and yet not scare anyone away. I always pull for local establishments over chains but at the same time I believe in survival of the fittest. Right now I can't muster the energy to do a sideways and insincere compliment. My present sense about Hoaglin is... Meh. I admit a cheddar and onion omelet is neither exciting nor innovative. Mine over-delivered on these expectations being a bit flat and oversaturated with cooking oil. Most everything followed suit: potatoes average, sourdough under toasted, and bacon... late to arrive after a reheat in the microwave. The coffee was fantastic. I might try it again. Finding an even good breakfast spot in Indianapolis is, in my opinion, rarer than frog's fur.

It's been a good long while since I visited Hoaglin, so before Xmas shopping I decided to fuel up. I walked in at 11:15 and saw several empty tables, seemed odd, but I gave the hostess my name anyway and asked for a seat in the back. I was three or four gifts in at Silver in the City when my phone rang. I was expecting an automated text, but okay I'll talk to you from 30 feet away. I walked back over and was promptly seated at a table..in the middle of the front window. Check-minus. There were no tables available in the back and after spending the first $100 of my Xmas fund I couldn't wait to get back to my shopping high, so I sat in the window and watched passers by. I quickly ordered my usual pancakes with a side of sausage, coffee, and water. My coffee was delivered in a dirty mug, with what looked like a shot glass of water, by a server with dirty hands, cuffs, and a stained tshirt. Check minus, check minus, but I was in a hurry and determined to work with it. The pancakes arrived looking beautiful -it's hard to screw up pancakes, check plus - and the sausage patties could pass for hockey pucks, which I like. Unwrapped the silverware..dirty..check minus. Everyone knows epic pancakes require copious amounts of water, and with the nonstop buttery, mapley goodness coursing through my throat, refilling that shot glass was not an option. When I ordered an 'adult' water the server quickly explained that management made an official change to the minuscule servings. I felt like Tom Hanks in the movie Big. Inside I was silently screaming "there is an adult size water glass back there, now find it!!" Outside I used the universal symbol for choking and the attentive server quickly brought back a large water. I wish she had as much enthusiasm for laundry and soap. Two things I do not prefer: servers with dirty hands and clothes, and the manufactured creation of scarcity when there is none. Rulers be damned. The people shall have water!!!

I would leave 0 if it were possible, because they shouldn't be serving food. After waiting for an hour to get our food there was a bathroom issue that resulted in the sewer backing up into the kitchen and I overhead them saying we have to get all these people out. They did not stop serving the food that was being prepared in kitchen during the incident even if the situation was exaggerated they should have told people what was happening Incase they didn't want to possibly be eating other people's feces.

Had lunch with a friend on Friday. We had been dining here pretty regularly for the last few years, but went on a bit of a hiatus. No reason really...just so many other options. They recently updated their menu. You can now get breakfast for lunch and I assume lunch for breakfast? Anyway, I'm going to try the Red Velvet Pancakes some day. This trip I had the BMLT. The mayo is a tarragon mayo and quite tasty. I was in the mood for salty bacon, but it was a little chewier than I like. Granted, it's thick cut, but not the awesomeness I was craving. I've had the bacon salad before, yum. If you have borderline high cholesterol, this will take you over the top. It's not sprinkled with bacon, it's main ingredient is bacon. It's no joke. My friend had the special - crispy tortillas with a hollandaise sauce and an egg on top. I thought the egg was overcooked for "over-easy". The yolk was cooked...it would have been a lot better if the yolk had ooozed all over the tortillas. Overall, pretty good though. We also love the curried chicken salad and their regular chicken salad is also delicious. I've never tried any of the take-out items, though I don't know why. I'm always wiping drool off of the counter when I leave. Final note - good brewed iced tea. I can almost always love your food if you serve me a great glass of tea. :)

Have seen this cute little place a lot and wanted to try out breakfast for a while. Well, did today and frankly it was a C at best. Now I'm willing to try again perhaps as they were quite busy, but they would know that sat am would be busy right? Long wait for coffee. Had to get from someone other than server. Order placed and had about a 25-30 min wait for a omelet bagel and oatmeal. Oatmeal ordered plain w bananas. Came with what appeared to be two table spoons of melted butter on top. Omelet was quite good. Loaded w veggies and Swiss. No complaints there. Bagel tasty but herb taste was very strong in the cream cheese and it was heaped on. No refills or check back on coffee. Had to ask for and wait for check. I'd say food was better than service so might try again.

Lately when I'm hungry and on Mass Ave, Bru calls to me, what with their delicious veggie burgers, fries, and salads at pretty decent prices. But today I went back to Hoaglin's to mix things up. I had the vegetarian deep-dish quiche with salad greens, and a cup of chunky vegetable soup. The quiche tasted homemade, in a good way. The soup tasted like it came from a can - which the server insisted it did not! The service is polite enough but lacks a certain attentiveness and care that I'm used to getting at other places. And my bill with tip came to $16, which feels like a lot for what I got. I won't hurry back. Patachou is local and downtown and delicious with great atmosphere. I'd rather go there.

Busy, noisy little cafe on Mass Ave. that I just adore. Coffee drinks are impeccable, and it's obvious they know how to run an espresso machine. From a former barista, it's noticeable when someone doesn't! Food is healthy, fresh and delish. Big fan of their quiche specials, but usually I'm a strict fruit cup and bagel gal. I do, however, on occasion wander away from my "usual" for apple smoked bacon and other specials. Service is friendly, accommodating and quick. Only drawback for me is the back side of the cafe. It's orange. Bt other than that, it's got great window seating and great food.

Great service by Hannah. Average omelet and coffee. Toast wasn't toasted. I would likely return if a friend wanted to meet there, or if it was convenient. A little overpriced. Biggest let down and surprise was that they don't serve (or even have as an option) real maple syrup. I would be a repeat customer if they changed that.

This place is overall great. Staff was friendly and the food was good. It would be nice if they were a little more community oriented. For example: they have a coffee bar that serves no purpose. Why not let folks hangout there while waiting for a seat?

Wow, I hate to do it, but since I was so enthusiastic about its earlier incarnation, here goes. Went back on a Sunday at the request of a friend. Had about a 30 minute wait, which is OK. We were seated, then waited for a server. She arrived and brought us coffee and water, then took our order. The coffee was absolutely delicious. And we never saw our server again until she brought the check. At around the 20-minute mark I remarked to my dining companion that I would really like to have refills on that coffee and water. At 45 minutes we were still waiting for our food, for refills on our drinks, for a glimpse of our server. At some point, the table next to our asked for their food to go, since they would not have the time to eat it in the indeterminate time it would take to arrive. Finally at 50 minutes we received our food and were able to ask for refills of our drinks. (The food and the refills were provided by someone other than our server.) At no point did anyone ask how our food was or if we needed anything. Our server delivered our check, we paid and left. It gets two stars because the food is fine, although the once vaunted potatoes Anna are now a spoonful of potatoes slopped onto a plate. Mass Avenue needs more breakfast and lunch options to give people more options than settling for this.

Solid breakfast in the trendy Mass Ave area. Plenty of nice options such as pancakes, applewood smoke bacon, omelettes to order, and their house favorites. The coffee is good and they have espresso drinks, so don't worry about hitting the coffee shop first.

Hoaglin's is set right on Massachusett's Avenue, an already cute street but it was electric with excitement when we ate there during the Gay Pride Parade. It was a fun, energetic atmosphere on Mass Ave, and this was a pleasant place to enjoy the festivities, but other than that? Pretty average. Nothing to rave about and no place you'd need to go more than once. It was pretty plainly decorated, with pretty standard service and pretty standard food. The only thing that wasn't standard were the high prices for average food. My french toast was, well, french toast indeed, and my boyfriend got pancakes the menu claimed would be "covered in seasonal fruits and berries," which were in reality decorated with 3 strawberry slices. Count 'em: 3. There wasn't even an entire strawberry on there. That just seemed stingy and kind of annoyed us, not to mention that I paid like, $3.50 for three scraggly little pieces of bacon. Over $1 per skimpy piece of bacon? Rip-off anyone? It was all pretty average with some downfalls to boot. Overpriced like crazy, and for the previous reviews, I expected a mind-blowing experience. There are cooler places in Cleveland with better food, lower prices, cooler atmosphere and friendlier service, which is why I gave a 2 comparatively. Oh well, nice location though!!

Haven't had the food yet but so far not a good experience! 30 minutes on a to go order! I get they are busy but I've seen to go orders done faster at busier places. The menu prices are wrong on the site so be careful! Even if the food is good, I probably won't be back. Service is mediocre to say the least and prices are a bit on the high side.

Don't be fooled by the "to GO" clause in their name. You CAN get things to go, but why would you?? Sit down and stay a while! The atmosphere in Hoaglin is relaxing with bright, clean, cheery decor. The service is super. And let's face it: quiche, omelettes, eggs benedict, pancakes and other breakfast items are just better when they are hot 'n fresh out tha kitchen! (stuck in your head now, too? you're welcome) I need a dining partner to share the red velvet pancakes with me because I am dying to try them! Take my mother's advice and order the specials. They are creative and delicious.

That's it. I found my #2. My second favorite pancakes in the whole wide world. Second only to the lemon ricotta pancakes piled with ginger gelato at The Bongo Room in Chicago. My friend had raved about Hoaglin's buttery flapjacks, so I thought I'd go see for myself. Well, she was right. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is something extra-special about them. The strawberries and powdered sugar are nice touches but the pancakes are so good they could probably stand alone. If Mass Ave were high school, Hoaglin to Go would be the unfriendly snob. The snob whose popularity has blinded them from seeing the importance of friendly service and a smile. Luckily, this snob makes some damn good food. I keep intending to take advantage of their colorful to-go options. I give Hoaglin to Go 4 stars for usage of underappreciated vegetables like eggplant and squash. Next time: Hoaglin is going home with me for lunch.
This once gleaming beacon of brunch happiness has quickly take a turn for the worst. The long wait times associated with a "new menu" turned our brunch into literally a two hour torture fest.

Ive eaten here many times because of the convenience. The food is inconsistent. When it's good it's very good. The Host or Hostess, different every time, is consistently rude and dismissive. When approached they often don't even look up at their guests. I have watched them leave folks standing in the doorway while diners try to figure out if they should seat themselves. If you want good service this is not the place.

A lazy Saturday called for my favorite neighborhood breakfast/brunch location in the Mass Ave area. I have been in love with this place for years and pretty much will use any excuse to go there. It's about time I let the world know about this love affair. I'm a sucker for anything breakfast related and my favorite is a twist of a breakfast classic called the Southwest Benedict. Two poached eggs served over jalapeno toast, sausage patties and topped off with a southwest inspired Hollandaise sauce that I suspect is the addition of chili powder. Yes, I've tried to recreate it at home and failed! The meal comes with your choice of potatoes, pommes annas (au gratin) or roasted. I highly recommend the au gratin! Quick note that the jalapeno toast has corn in it and I it adds something very special to it. It's a large plate of food so you won't leave hungry. Other favorites include the big "O" omelet and the quiches. If you see the red velvet pancakes they are decadent . . . I'd recommend sharing them. Service is always great. One thing worth mentioning is that I've found the poached eggs are sometimes cooked too long but don't worry, the staff is friendly and can have that fixed in a jiff! In terms of a wait, it's very popular and the cafe uses all of it's space so you'll be waiting outside or can use the time to browse the local shops that are open if you get there after 10:30 am. Fear not, you can leave your number with the host/hostess and they'll ring you when a table is ready. It's worth noting they do a decent lunch, too! Anything with bacon is worth trying as it's cooked perfectly crispy. Bacon makes everything better!

Never had anything bad here. Great food, great atmosphere, good service and fast. As a special bonus, you get to experience art from local artists as they rotate regularly. As with anything on Mass Ave, it's best to experience the whole Ave and shop and savor!

I went here for lunch this weekend with a friend. I am vegan and ordered their veggie loaded bagel with pesto in place of cream cheese. It was delicious! Much better than I expected from a bagel sandwich. My friend had the banana nut waffles and said they were fantastic! Our server was great, too. They were very busy but she was attentive to our drinks and needs. Great place for a lunch stop on Mass Ave

Tasty in my hung-over belly! Especially that mouth-watering Bananas Foster Croissant French Toast. I had some pommes ana off of someone's plate too, and then had some more. Also, the waitress was a doll. She asked if we were splitting the bill before we ordered (smart), and kept my diet cokes re-filled (double smart!) I also hear their baked goods are SINFUL, but I didn't have any. Next time!

I am a server here at Hoaglin To Go and have been for over a year. I came here because of the Hoaglin name. I do other things professionally, and all I wanted to accomplish here is to just serve some great food, send people home happy and make good money. The end. It hasn't been that way for the last few months and we are ALL aware of that. It's been a frustrating period knowing that the chances were very high that people were going to have a disappointing experience at one of the city's best spots. We have all felt the sting of a restaurant in transition - change of ownership, change in management, change in kitchen and front of the house personnel. The bottom line is, the guest has suffered and we have all been frustrated and, frankly, embarrassed. All of the negative posts are not without merit and that's a hard thing to read and admit. But, please know that management, ownership, servers all CARE. It's been hard to be the face and the crutch for a kitchen staff that didn't care and couldn't deliver. Just this weekend we found the answer and there is finally hope and optimism for the Hoaglin that we all have come to know and love. The old kitchen staff is GONE, totally. We hired a new chef with decades of experience and an enthusiasm to tackle the challenge of turning it around. We are extremely excited to have him. I'm only writing this because I want people to come, return and get back to writing great things about us again. In spite of not really wanting to "care" too much. I do care. And, it's because of the Hoaglin name that brought me here. Thanks for reading and I hope that you will give us a shot again.
Get the "Big O"!! Minds outta the gutter, please -- it's their daily omelette. Today's was chicken, pico de gallo, and goat cheese. Mmmmm They also had two great-sounding quiche as well. As usual, service was wonderful. Not as usual: we got a table right away, which was awesome (not that Hoaglin isn't worth the wait).

Just went here for Saturday morning breakfast on the advice of a fellow foodie couple we met last night. Definitely a good breakfast spot! Decent coffee, server was very friendly and helpful, and good variety on the menu. I got the banana walnut French toast. Was very yummy but so sweet I didn't need syrup and I couldn't eat my whole portion. Hubby got the Southwest Benedict. He cleaned his plate very quickly, so it must have been good! The pommes anna were pretty darn good too! Only gripes would be that we were seated by the door, which was quite cold, and there were clearly other open tables for 2. I could have asked to be moved, so this is partially my fault, but a hate to be THAT person (but here I am complaining about it...). Other thing was that the bacon was way over-cooked. It was almost completely black on one side. Again, could have sent it back, but I didn't. Overall, I feel like this was great breakfast experience and will definitely be back again!

My granola with yogurt and fruits tasted fresh. My husbands pancakes were good. Service was not the best: we had to get our own refills. The art work for sale was nice but other than that thr decor is not my taste: too bright and kindergarden looking. Music was not the best either...heavy metally something; making bacground noise. The place got crowded by 9am-ish and got even noisier..

Good place for lunch. They have yummy sandwiches and salads and is a cute little place. It's been a while since I've been there, but I believe there is a club sandwich I really like. They also have a quiche of the day and a deli case with a variety of different goodies. I still need to try Hoaglin for breakfast.

One of the best spots for breakfast in Indianapolis. You'll see the word unique used a lot in the reviews of this spot. It's not a mistake. Finding good, different, breakfast options is a difficult task in Indy. This is not Le Peep. If you want your Swiss Miss and an omelet with Egg Beaters you're probably not going to be satisfied. I had the challah french toast, hot chocolate to drink, with a side of the thick cut bacon. The french toast was awesome. Not the typical soggy french toast but the challah really held up with great cinnamon lumps coating the outside. A lot has been said about the bacon and I'll echo those sentiments: It's outstanding. The hot chocolate tasted like, gasp, real chocolate and was loaded with whip cream. For the quality the price is not terrible. It's not the cheapest place in town but you get what you pay for.

I tend to avoid Hoaglin on the weekend, due to the crowds, but really enjoy stopping by for breakfast during the week. I tend to try whatever meatless item is the special or pick something new off the menu, and each time I've loved it. Based on other reviews, the gruyere potatoes au gratin are a hit or miss for some, but I think with a little salt and pepper they are delicious. I'm surprised by the portion size given the quality ingredients used. As a matter of fact, my husband and I occasionally split a meal. Don't forget to check out the local art work and/or pick up something for later from the deli case.

I dined at Hoaglin today for the first time, and I will go back. Lemme preface that...it wasn't bad. People talk this place up like its the best deli in the world, but I was really disappointed that it could not live up to its hype. The ambiance is cool, I dig the colors and the brightness, it feels warm and is certainly clean and very well kept. The service...well it is a stretch to call it that. I know the point is to be a quick lunch place, and thats cool, but Patachou has a great service team (for the most part). My service was basically a girl taking my order and dropping my check, she didn't even bring me my food, someone else did...oh and she gave me a refill...lucky for her I am a server and usually have to be offended to not tip, in this case I was just mildly irked. Aside from my waitron's lack of caring, the rest of the staff just chatted their lives away with the goal of making sure the entire restaurant was listening to their lives unfold, something I really loathe. The food? Pretty off the charts really. The French onion soup was amazing. Initially I was taken aback to see it come out with no cheese on top, a sin in French onion-ry that is unacceptable, but to my delight it was just put in the bottom of the bowl, but the flavor was so good I forgave the transgression. My sandwich was completely unmaneuverable, the chicken and veggies were stacked to high that I could not even begin to get my mouth around it. I settled for the cut and fork method and enjoyed the curried chicken salad. The curry flavor was mild and delightful, the only thing that could improve on the sandwich would be more red onion. Small Nit-Pick...The soup spoons are entirely too small and make eating soup a tragically messy experience, I felt like such a slob. But to my amusement, a lady at another table mentioned the same thing to the server. (Though I'm sure the comment was lost forever and will never get to management.) Like I said, I'll go back, but I won't be in a hurry, it's kinda out of my way anyway.

Visited this little cafe while traveling through Indy. My wife and I had breakfast here. While the selection on the menu was a little limited, the quality of the food was top notch. I had the "stack" pancakes with strawberries on top. They were great. My wife had granola with yogurt and she commented how fresh it tasted. The service was quick with the food and 1st round of drinks, although we did have to refill our own coffee and tea cups once. I didn't personally like the atmosphere or music playing in the background, but that's just my taste and others may enjoy it. Overall, a good place to stop for breakfast to get high quality food.

I've only been here once but the food and service were good. It was crowded because it was lunch time but they seemed to be able to manage it. The decor was cute and did I mention the yummy food?

When to Hoaglin's for lunch with a coworker this afternoon. I had the Pesto Smoked Turkey sandwich. It was wonderful! Warm bread, red onions, a pesto dijon sauce, lettuce, and swiss cheese! Served with kettle chips and a pickle spear. What a tasty lunch! I will be going back!

Probably my favorite brunch place in Indy. Perfectly cooked bacon and the best potatoes (pommes Anna) I've had.

What a major letdown! I've read nothing but great things about this place, and finally had a chance to check it out for lunch. First off - the service. They had one server for the whole place at 1:30 in the afternoon! Unacceptable, especially considering there were at least 4 other employees in the place. She was incredibly busy & obviously stressed, but still managed to be very kind - so kudos to her (just her). The food - could this place be more un-friendly to vegans? Probably not. There is more to life than cheese & meat - I promise. There were a couple of options that were/could be made vegetarian, but they all included cheese. My options ended up being a house salad or PB&J. I opted for the house salad, no cheese. The kitchen - must not understand that it is completely inappropriate to serve someone a house salad ordered with no cheese & no meat a salad that has clearly had the chicken taken off of it. Thank goodness I noticed! The waitress was totally apologetic & comped my salad, but the fact it happened is terrible and completely embarrassing. The prices - perhaps the food is good, I wouldn't really know. My boyfriend really liked his soup, and thought the curried chicken salad was nothing to write home about. But we both could agree that the place is overpriced. Perhaps if I had lower expectations, this place would have been better. I also should probably like meat. Unfortunately, that's just not the way it is.

Went to the place for breakfast for the first time. The atmosphere and feel of the place is certainly breakfastelsque. Chatty, lively, bright. I was getting excited, especially considering that Indianapolis may be the worst place for breakfast in this country. I ordered conservatively- bagel with cream-cheese, side of potatoes, bacon, pancakes, and coffee. What can go wrong?! Well, almost everything. The bagel was the most pathetic piece of bread I've had in some time- salty, small, and chewy. Cream-cheese was borderline inedible- there was so much salt on it, I simply had to scrape it off. Coffee was average. Bacon - your usual applewood farms greasy goodness. Pancakes, although somewhat creative, were chewy and uninspiring. I gave the place three tries, and it failed me every one of them. Verdict- Mass Ave does not have a good breakfast place. So if somebody wants to come in and establish a breakfast-brunch place that is half-way decent- complete domination guaranteed. And please do- I'm tired of skipping breakfast.

I went to breakfast here with my parents on a whim, and it was the best whim we have ever had. We all ordered omelets. It was hands down the best omelet I ever had. I ordered the egg white omelet with sausage, mushroom, swiss, and green peppers. When the omelet came not only was it hot, but the ingredients were nice size and fresh. The omelet was spilling out sausage, mushroom, and green peppers. Plus, they did not add too much cheese, like other restaurants I have eaten at. I had the red potatoes hash. It was well seasoned and not too salty. To top it all off they have sourdough toast as an option. The service was great. The food was fresh. There is little more I could ask for.

Great brunch spot on mass ave. had the BMT sandwich and aparagus, tomatoe, blue cheese salad. Sourdough was fresh and really good. Applewood smoked bacon was great. Could of had more tomatoes only one small tomatoe on each half. Salad side was good if you like asparagus. Gave too much, not something u can eat alot of. Waitress was great with lots of great recommendations. We were in a lunch mood. It seems breakfast and brunch items are there speciality. We will have to return to try the red velvet pancakes.

Every time I stop in here, be it dine in or carryout, I try something new and I'm never disappointed. I recently had lunch here with my mother and sister-in-law, a first for both. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and were happy to see they could get their beverage to go once our meal was over. The decor is contemporary, bright w/ fun artwork by local artists and a friendly, helpful wait staff. Definitely one of my all time favorite eateries in Indianapolis.

Food is generally good. Service sucks. We went in with our 18 month daughter, which was obviously a huge mistake here based on the looks the staff gave us. Will come back when we're "accepted" for those delicious red velvet pancakes :)

I agree with Jon A. here. Visiting from out of town (Chicago) with my boyfriend... we decide to grab brunch on our way out. If it wasn't for the food being amazing (I ordered a Bacon & Eggs delicious sandwich) I would give this place one star. Not extremely horrible service, but our server was definitely slacking... and no eye contact, and if there was... what's with the attitude look? what if I don't finish my food? She didn't even care to offer a box to go. Delicious food and I hope that next time I'm there, I have a different server because I really want to try that chicken brie sandwich.

Always constantly delicious! Service is great as well, even during that crazy Sunday pre-church or post church rush. I am usually here for breakfast, but lunch is equally good. Most of the time I don't even have to look at the menu b/c everything on the daily specials board is tempting. Omelets are huge and stuffed full of goodies. The quiche is monstrous and amazing. Recently had the vanilla challah bread french toast. Served with strawberries, blueberries, whipped butter and warm maple syrup. Heavenly. Coffee is always hot and fresh. The atmosphere is light, open, and vibrant; great for a visual wake-me-up. Treat yourself and try a sassy mimosa with pomegranate, peach, pear, or passion fruit juice. I like lazy early morning breakfast here with my boyfriend or lunch with a friend. Always good which will keep me coming back.

I've walked by the Hoaglin many times but had never stopped in. My thoughts were why stop at this coffee shop when there was a cool Starbucks just a few stores down the street. Well, I stand corrected. The Hoaglin is not a coffeeshop but a sit down restaurant with a carry out deli. While hanging out at the Starbucks on a Saturday afternoon, I notice that there are a few check-ins at the Hoaglin on Foursquare ... to my surprise. So I decided to check it out for the first time. When I walk in, I am fortunate enough to get the last table. I order the Eggs Benedict and they are awesome. My neighbor enjoyed their Chicken Salad Sandwich, which was huge. The waitress is very attentive but never spent more than ten seconds with me on each visit. Hoaglin to Go Cafe & Market brings to mind similarities to mind as Taste or the original Cafe Patachou. Definately a go to place on a weekend morning or early afternoon. Before leaving the restaurant, I made a visit to the men's room. A full length mirror is not strategically located, and a bit disturbing...

First off, this place was packed. We gave our cell number to the waiter who called us back when our table was ready - a nice touch, especially since i have an out-of-town number. My girlfriend ordered the pumpkin pancakes and I ordered the "Big O" omelet which that day happened to have chicken, broccoli, roasted red peppers, goat cheese, and mushrooms in it. We both had sides of pommes anna. How was it? Incredibly delicious. The eating quarters are a bit tight but it's worth rubbing elbows for such a tasty breakfast.

Pommes Anna! Holy moly so delicious. Reminds me of the potatoes my mother-in-law makes at holidays with tons of cheese and creme freche. My mouth is watering right now. Had the omlette of the day the first time I went there, and the BMLT with the asparagus salad on Saturday. Everything is just delicious. It ain't cheap, but it's tasty and fresh.

I was looking forward to a good blt sandwich, it was quite good, just the bacon part, but the mozzarella was a bit off. I was most dissatisfied with the service. The waiter had a rude attitude on certain questions. I could understand if it was busy to have a crumby attitude. I still left a good tip, more than I should have. Overall food is good, but too overprice when you can go to Mrs. Fields or Cafe Patachou for a cheaper and equal quality of a blt sandwich.

One word: YUMMY Came here this morning for breakfast and I love the environment. It reminds me of the places you see on TV. The tables are close together and people around you are having tons of interesting conversation. The service was great I got the impression that they truly love their job. I ordered an omelet and it was wonderful. I can't wait to go back and check out other things on the menu. I may go again next weekend :-)

Im actually sitting in Hoaglin as I write this. It has been a very... average.. couple of visits. My server, although fast, is no waiter. He's a runner. At lunch however, I rather prefer this. My glass was never empty, and my check was ready when I needed it. So from the service side, not too bad. Not going to win any awards, but speedy and attentive. My two lunch visits have both resulted in meals that were passable, but not worth driving for. The tuna salad I just had was honestly one of the blandest I've ever tasted. The sandwich looked like it had been made by a machine. 1 ice cream scoop of tuna salad, 2 slices of tomato, two slices of god awful whole wheat bread. Very lame. On the whole, probably wont go back. At least not for lunch (havent tried bfast, but heard great things) Tea's me destroyed this place in both service and food.

Hoaglin to go is a servicable brunch place on the weekends. It's upscale in price, but the menu is limited and for the ingredients they use, not entirely sure the price is warranted! I also have an issue with having eggs benedict on a menu, but not florentine, and when I asked my waiter for florentine, he didn't know what that was. So there's that. I also hate the table arrangement because you get about 4 inches from the back of your chair to the back of the chair at the other table. I don't like feeling like I am sitting at a table with strangers because they are so close! But if you like eating expensive but delicious pancakes on the weekend downtown this is the spot. I will also agree with the review that says Taste is much better. I think Taste is what H2G wishes to be.

I was first introduced to Hoaglin during a lunch outing with co-workers. There's something for everyone here. My favorite is the grilled cheese on stone-ground whole wheat with a mixed fruit cup. My co-workers rave about the egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches as well. It's a small, cozy space and is always packed at lunch time, but well worth the wait if you have the time. For a comfort food fix, get the grilled cheese, with both cheeses.

This is definitely one of my favorite places in Indy. It's cheery in the spring and summer, warm and inviting in the winter and the only place I want to be on a hungover Sunday morning (other than my bed). We go here almost every week and it is nice to know that when you walk in, the staff care to say hello to you, even if they aren't your server. Although my one complaint is a lack of vegetarian items, the ones they have are delicious. The quiche with a salad and shallot dressing is my favorite. The egg salad is solid and the oatmeal is also quite good. I have always been a fan of Hoaglin's catering- but I really do love this place for it's atmosphere and staff. Kudos to all of them for always being so cheery so early in the morning!

The best breakfast in the city, and some of the best service, as well. We've dined many times at Hoaglin to Go - a few times for lunch, but many times for breakfast. The French toast, made with a variety of breads, is to die for (though my wife prefers the egg dishes.) The coffee's always hot and tasty, and the service is excellent. I particularly enjoy the setting. Sure, the seating's a little tight, but it's a cheerful, bright, hip place with great, relaxing music and local artwork adorning the walls. I wouldn't change a thing (well, perhaps I'd add a little elbow room - but on Mass Ave., that's hard to come by.)

we'd discovered their afternoon/evening TO GO case!!!! we run late, so don't always have time for breakfast or lunch.......we dropped in last week & got some smoked Gouda pasta, trying to be funny with Nick after he said to put it in the microwave for 1 minute (i Have to Wait??? HURRY) !!! well i followed his directions (tick, tick, tick) & after tasting it, my hands shook as a warm feeling enveloped me, THEN SCREAMED, that's the BEST pasta i've ever tasted !!!!!!!!!! the next day i had to work & sent my b/f with the orders "To buy it All" one side of the case is usually dessert items, & the other things for dinner we love their noodles of any kind, today i picked up some more pasta, Asian sesame noodles with Nicholle's help, oh & their Hummus is To Die For (cheaper & tastier than marsh's) Matt is one of the best / fun servers in town as is BJ

I miss how easy it used to be for me to indulge at Hoaglin To Go Cafe & Marketplace on Mass Ave. I used to work downtown, and a group of us would walk over to this hot spot (we had the luxury of walking in while others fought for parking!) once in a while to get their yummy lunch. I miss it enough that I've made a couple trips down there since I moved jobs to the Northwestside. Yeah. It's that good. As another fellow Yelper beat me to divulge: Hoaglin has the most incredible, make-my-body-quiver-in-happiness applewood smoked bacon. Now I know bacon and I know how so-not-good it is for me. But I will tell you this: Their bacon might be on my list for items I need for my final meal. It's so thick and full of flavor that it's hard to even describe. To indulge, you simply must head to Hoaglin to get the BMLT--which comes with applewood smoked bacon, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomato and tarragon cream on toasted sourdough. Another of my favorites: Indy's Best Egg Salad. Yummmmmmmy.

This is a great little lunch spot on Mass Ave. Intimate seating area, but the all white decor makes it bright. Everyone there is always great. And the food, well let me say I am one of "those people" who get the same thing every time I go. The club, oh the club. You could start with the tarragon cream, or the roasted red peppers or even the fresh mozzarella. But for me, this sandwich's crescendo is the applewood smoked bacon that is thick and perfectly cooked. I can rationally tell myself that the other items on their menu is equally fantastic...but something happens in my brain when I walk through those doors and the only words that drip off my lips is "club please". I'm just sayin

Great place for lunch on Mass Ave for the downtown business crowd who likes to step outside of the box a little bit. Hoaglin, who also specializes in event catering, offers sandwich/soup/salad type lunches during the day and serves it up pretty well. The food is not earth-shattering, but definitely good. It certainly beats the monotony of the fast (food) life, and the atmosphere is light and comfortable. Plus, with its Mass Ave location, it really adds a nice presence to the downtown marketplace.

I lived in Indy for about 6 months and this is probably the main thing I miss about Indy. Their food is AMAZING! I ordered the country scramble (I think that's what it was called) and my boyfriend ordered the egg benedict (it had another name attached to it but i can't remember what it is). Two of our favorite dishes and Oh.My .Gosh, it is to die for. The service is pretty awesome. The staff is ...mm pretty artsy? Haha they're awesome, that's all I can say. The wait is pretty long on sundays so I definitely would try to make reservations if you could. But you definitely need to check this place out if you're in Indy!

Actually, it's a rotation of work from the three same artists. One wall that's up now quickly catches the eye. Simple black, white and red paintings. Anyway. I'm surprised about the inexpensive deserts -- I dropped in for a late lunch-type snack, but left with a box of lemon bars (.75 each, subtle, not sweet, not tart but not zing-y either) and a flavored baguette (intended as an accessory to tonight's dinner. Instead, I've ate a good 3/4 of it, within an hour). Anyway. I plan on heading here instead of Starbucks when I need a lemon fix, or just feel compelled to try some of their dessert offerings. Can't wait to try the coffee, or the day I justify a dine-in entree (the take-out case looks amazing, if pricey!!)

Great breakfast place on Mass Ave. Had the egg and bacon sandwich a bit put off by the price of $9.50, but it tasted great and enjoyed the roasted potatoes. Fun to walk Mass Ave. after brunch

Best casual Sunday brunch in Indy. Really good curry chicken sandwiches, or you can try their omelets and french toast if you're in more of a breakfasty mood. The waiters and waitresses are cheerful, and the coffee is phenomenal. They also have tons of artwork rotating in and out, as well as catering service if you want to take some cookies or chicken salad home.

I've only been here for breakfast - but I'm a fan. Their omelets are great, actually they are big enough for two people to share and still leave stuffed. They have omelet specials and have had some pretty creating combinations - all of which have been delicious (most recently a salsa and bean omelet). Their egg dishes come with cheese potatoes or roasted potatoes - both of which are very good. I have to say I'm not crazy about their bagels (tasted more like normal bread than a bagel) but I'm happy sticking with the omelets. The coffee is great, too. It is always easy to find a table on weekend mornings - unlike some of the other breakfast joints in town.

I've had breakfast in the winter, and the rosemary potatoes with a tasty quiche of the day warmed my stomach while the free coffee, generously given because my table was right by the door, kept my fingers from falling off. I've had lunch in the summer, and loved the salads, big both on flavor and portion size. And on every visit, Hoaglin's servers have been friendly, attractive, and tattooed, which apparently is a must when you are an eating establishment located on Mass Ave! While I no longer live down the street from this bright little cafe, I look forward to some overpriced yet still worth it brunchy goodness every time I make it back to Indianapolis... and when I did dwell close by, this place nursed every precious hangover with love and care.

A nice place to have brunch or lunch on Mass Ave. They have variety of sandwiches, salad and soup - that's their specialty, I think. I have tried their egg salad sandwich and tuna sandwich - they both were delicious. The chips were good too. I enjoyed the meal, but I think the portion was awfully big for me. I spent $12.50 (with tip and tax) for the meal and free water... They could have offered a smaller portion with a cheaper price for lunch. This is a fun place to go with friends - not with family though. The decor is nice, modern but seatings are limited.

Perhaps, I chose to visit this supposed fine establishment on an off day? I stopped in, while walking Mass Ave in search of a non-Starbucks solution to my coffee thirst. Storefront appearances can be deceiving. I was clear with the staff person who greeted me that I was only there for coffee. Upon being asked where I wished to sit, I selected a 2 person table that allowed a view to the outside, only to be told, "That table is dirty, you'll have to sit over here." Well, over here was a 2 person table situated smack-dab in the middle of a building column affording me no view of the outside. I thought to myself, "In 60 seconds they could have cleared the dirty table and had me seated and happy." During my pensive stay, I was asked no less than twice if I wanted a menu to order from and each time I responded the same, "I am just here for your delicious coffee." Both times when my cup was empty, I had to ask for a refill while waiter after waiter flitted around the tables asking if water glasses needed to be refilled. I wondered if the fact that I seemed to be the only patron with their smart phone out and actively using it was the source of the staff's indifference to me, but I reminded myself it was 2011. I wondered if I was taking up precious space and in the way of other high-bill customers, but no more than 50% of the tables were occupied. I was reaching a level of disappointment that would preclude me from offering further patronage, although it was clear from the disturbance of construction and numerous closed shops along Mass Ave, that they should be welcoming me with bells on. I thought that because I am dressed like a very happy middle-earth-aged big-city man without a care or burden of guilt in the world that they might have seen me as a threat to their closet culture of small shoppes on Mass Ave. And finally, upon rising from my table to pay my bill and approaching the counter, the staff person ignored my body language of wallet out and poised for payment and deferred to a customer who had approached the counter after me, to dispense a carryout item for them. Summary: Snotty service, tense atmosphere, ho-hum coffee and I won't be back.

Ahh, Hoaglin's. How I crave for thy creme brûlée oatmeal! Warm, with melted butter and crunchy brûlée bits. Mmmm. Ugh! And your bacon! How I dream of your crispy, melt in your mouth bacon! I fell in love with Hoaglins because because of their oatmeal, and I keep coming back for the friendly staff and Mass Ave convenience. I've honestly never had to wait to eat here. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I love that its never wall to wall bodies. (I imagine Sunday brunch is another story.) I've always had great luck with staff. Attentive, friendly, and prompt with my morning joe. What else is there to say besides they're a solid local breakfast joint with good food? Just go already!

(5)Sunah K.
hmmm, this place is not quite what it used to be.

(4)Derrick M.

(4)Sara C.
Attentive service that keeps the coffee topped off. Get a side of potatoes with gruyere or the applewood smoked bacon if you're only a little hungry. With the variety of specialty coffee's available, there's something for everyone.
(4)Katie C.
(4)Meredith K.
(4)Kelsey A.

(4)Kathryn H.
(5)Jen H.
(4)David H.
Hard to find a better place for brunch. Their Mass Ave bagel sandwich is incredible. It's a small cafe, but they offer a lot of choices. The coffee is great and the prices are reasonable.
(5)Danielle S.

(4)Kristie S.
(4)Matt F.
(4)Bill J.
(4)Jon A.
(4)Beth B.
(4)Matt U.
(2)James K.
Hoaglin signature omlette is the winner here with the pommes anna, only complaint - chairs not very comfortable, but the food more than makes up for the seats.
(5)Jenny S.
Make sure to check the menu of the day as there are some great non-regular items! Also if you order the veggie bagel sandwich, beware of the amount of cream cheese...
(4)Scott H.
(2)Bridget C.
(5)Yvonne M.

(2)Food E.
Not impressed with the service or the food. Not the worst, but not the best. Empty restaurant at lunch. Waited 10 minutes before being greeted. Food - blahhh. Potatoes were weird, not great. Had better florentine in my own kitchen. Expensive for eggs and an english muffin.
(3)Theresa G.
(3)Justina G.

(4)Jessica P.
(4)Kendra S.

I love their biscuit and gravy!!! One of the best I've had!! So delicious!! I'll be a returning customer for sure!!

(2)Twinkle V.
(4)Charter L.
(3)Kevin H.
This place is overall great. Staff was friendly and the food was good. It would be nice if they were a little more community oriented. For example: they have a coffee bar that serves no purpose. Why not let folks hangout there while waiting for a seat?
(4)Richard H.
(2)Jim W.
Solid breakfast in the trendy Mass Ave area. Plenty of nice options such as pancakes, applewood smoke bacon, omelettes to order, and their house favorites. The coffee is good and they have espresso drinks, so don't worry about hitting the coffee shop first.
(4)Lauren S.
(2)Monica P.
(2)Sarah F.
(4)Brittany S.

We came with a group of 6 people for Brunch. The atmosphere was an extremely sterile environment with very little character. We were seated next to the door so we froze every time the door was opened. The menu was a bit much to take in and appeared to suffer from the attempt to do everything syndrome. I had read some reviews about the biscuits and gravy which sounded great and my wife ordered the pancakes. I am a huge fan of bloody marries in the morning, but this one was lack luster at best. In the event you must use a bottled mix at least make it something better than Mr. T's when charging me $6 for a drink. Also using Sake instead of vodka... strange. The food was the redeeming quality, good portions and fair prices. The gravy is by far the best thing on their menu and it has a little heat which was great to cut the heartiness of gravy. The biscuits were clearly frozen and not made in house because mine was still cold inside. I guess they planned on the gravy to heat these hockey puck so you couldn't tell. The side of rosemary sautéed potatoes was nice, just nothing to write home about. My wife ordered the pancakes and they were huge. They served 3 plate sizes hotcakes for $7.5. Once again they weren't bad I just cannot see paying that much for Hungry Jack mix when I could make the same at home. Overall it wasn't a bad meal and the service was frazzled and very disjointed. If you're on Mass Ave for breakfast just keep walking there are many better places.
(3)Michael F.
This once gleaming beacon of brunch happiness has quickly take a turn for the worst. The long wait times associated with a "new menu" turned our brunch into literally a two hour torture fest.
(2)Jen G.

(4)Raquel R.
Never had anything bad here. Great food, great atmosphere, good service and fast. As a special bonus, you get to experience art from local artists as they rotate regularly. As with anything on Mass Ave, it's best to experience the whole Ave and shop and savor!

Great spot for brunch on Mass ave
(4)Meghan W.
(4)Lin-z C.

(3)Christina L.
I take brunch seriously, and so does Hoaglin's. Not only will you find really solid breakfast standards (omlettes, quiche, pancakes, etc.) but unique and scrumptious derivations from the norm. Today I tried the red velvet pancakes with cream cheese and am already dreaming about more. The signature omlette has creamy sun dried tomato pesto torte, sautéed red onions, and crunchy smoked applewood bacon that will cause you to unabashedly scoop up every tiny crumble off your plate. Portions of both of these are quite large and filling, and the coffee was great. This is not one of my regular spots because it's a little more pricey and out of the way for me, but the food is excellent and it is located in Mass Ave, one of the city's best neighborhoods. Come early because the weekend brunch crowd gets busy - although if you do have to wait, they will take your cell number and call you so you can at least poke around the fun shops and public art around the Avenue.

(5)Andres C.
Straight awesome! A bit pricey but worth it. I'm not a quiche guy myself but I get one almost every time. Great for lunch too. They justbgotntheir liquor license so cheers!

(4)Torrey R.

(4)DeAnna P.

(5)Laura A.
(4)Laura P.
(5)Brad W.
Food is generally good. Service sucks. We went in with our 18 month daughter, which was obviously a huge mistake here based on the looks the staff gave us. Will come back when we're "accepted" for those delicious red velvet pancakes :)
(3)Wendy A.
(4)Tim L.
Creative menu and cool vibe inside. Could have a slightly larger selection, but everything they do have is scrumptious.
(4)Rachael W.

(4)Nichole H.
(4)jason y.
(3)Tita P.
(4)Louis C.
(3)Janet S.
(3)Tiffany H.

(4)Tristan S.
(5)TOMMY o.
we'd discovered their afternoon/evening TO GO case!!!! we run late, so don't always have time for breakfast or lunch.......we dropped in last week & got some smoked Gouda pasta, trying to be funny with Nick after he said to put it in the microwave for 1 minute (i Have to Wait??? HURRY) !!! well i followed his directions (tick, tick, tick) & after tasting it, my hands shook as a warm feeling enveloped me, THEN SCREAMED, that's the BEST pasta i've ever tasted !!!!!!!!!! the next day i had to work & sent my b/f with the orders "To buy it All" one side of the case is usually dessert items, & the other things for dinner we love their noodles of any kind, today i picked up some more pasta, Asian sesame noodles with Nicholle's help, oh & their Hummus is To Die For (cheaper & tastier than marsh's) Matt is one of the best / fun servers in town as is BJ

Yummmmmmmy.
(5)Christopher R.
(5)Ryan H.
(4)Patsy H.
Delicious. Great location.

A friend brought me a Blondie and boy was it Great! I don't even like chocolate but WOW!
(5)Evan S.
Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich on focaccia. Enough said.
(5)DAVID W.
Good not great. No breakfast after 11am and French toast and specialties only served on wknds. Sandwiches ok. Setting very bright and banal-nothing interesting. But hey for Nap City, it's pretty good.
(3)Mark W.
Great breakfast place on Mass Ave. Had the egg and bacon sandwich a bit put off by the price of $9.50, but it tasted great and enjoyed the roasted potatoes. Fun to walk Mass Ave. after brunch
(4)Jared B.
(4)Robin P.
(4)Sara G.
(4)Paco C.
Don't recommend the To Go. Was overcharged ($35 for a $25 order). And wasn't given my pommes/toast with my order. Expect a lot more for the cost.
(2)Swt P.
(3)Rhonda C.
Love the coffee and breakfasts. Haven't really tried the lunches. Really quaint, sunny feeling to the space. Great place to grab a window seat, a good coffee (and maybe a dessert) and people watch.
(4)Hoosier D.
