This is my spot. I'm sure many others claim it too, but when I have a choice for my favorite downtown coffee shop, it's Henry's. They redid the interior this Winter/Spring, and with the newly painted light blue walls and light updates, it's an even better place to visit with a friend or to get some work done. Their food is pretty no frills, but you'll get a damn good cup of coffee in what's more of a soup tureen than a cup. Also, you have to love a place that charges a nickel if you want to use a plastic cup for water. You do you, Henry's. With local art on the walls and an adorable patio, this is a great Indy spot. Good people watching on a warm day- the Cultural trail is to your north and Mass Ave is just south. Grab a seat, grab a cup of coffee, and see if Henry's becomes "your place" too.

Unrefined service but friendly, this place has got to lose the tension with the mgmt and staff. Coffee is good as is the biscuits and gravy. The outdoor seating is pleasant, the inside is a bit sterile but nothing uninviting about it. Great location just off Mass ave, is cool for ppl watching most times of the day. I appreciated the massive cups of coffee (2 refills if dining on-site, none if taken to go). I'm a big coffee drinker and two of these cup fulls was plenty to start my morning. The value is good, not great but good as you can't expect smaller places to be dirt cheap. Next time I will definitely sit on the patio, it was inviting and seem much more comfortable than indoors. The main problem I've seen with places like Henry's is the local art work on the walls, not that I'm against it, I am for it (as I have my art in another coffee shop the past two months) but that does not need to be the ONLY decor. Other than a few preferences of my own, I would say this is a good place to get breakfast, brunch or lunch, with a massive dose of coffee.

This is my second attempt at this place so time for a review. My first time I had oatmeal and a cup of coffee. This time I ordered the eggs with bacon and cheese in wheat with a side if yogurt. It looks great. Check out my photo. But the egg was seriously overcooked. It was way too stiff to be enjoyable. Maybe they cook it like that on purpose because it is stacked high on the bread. But it is more quiche-like than scrambled egg-like. And I'm not a fan of quiche for that reason. The oatmeal I got my first visit was also a bit stiff. The addition of milk helped but I was really expecting better since everything here is a bit overpriced for the quality you get. It's unlikely I'll return for a third visit.

first time. beautiful location. beautiful outdoor seating and i adore the name henry BUT when i walked in i was not greeted with a smile. there was a big frown at the register. however, the young man who made and delivered my latte was aces. and it was quite good. while ordering, it was immediately brought to my attention there was an up-charge for alternative milks and it was done in such a manner that just made me think this place has had some money problems. i read the comments/replies and realized the owner has a bone-to-pick with loiterers. absolutely fair and valid. but maybe also consider not taking it out on every customer. make eye contact. say hello. smile. everyone is a potential customer or current customer and not everyone will cheat you. xo

Steps from Mass Ave, this adorable little coffee shop boasts some pretty seriously good food/coffee. Perfect for breakfast/brunch, this quaint cafe is my top pick for joe in the area. With an outdoor patio that's puppy friendly, I find the separation from the hustle and bustle of the main drag to be ideal for meetings or laptop work. They even have water bowls for the 'kids' outside! Personally, I'm a big fan of the granola with strawberries. The hot cocoa is drizzled in chocolatey delight and the chai is excellent! Perfect place to jump start your day without the overpriced, overrated chain coffee joints who won't give you the warm greeting and hospitality like the good people of Henry's will.

Not gluten free even though it comes up on the gluten free site. I ordered 3 egg whites and one whole egg scrambled with spinach. They got that wrong the first time. Second time they got it right, but the microwave their eggs. Runny on the outside and rubbery as a hockey puck.

Great place. Plenty of seats inside w wifi. Outdoor seating as well. The lunches are good if you plan on hanging out for a while.

Stopped here for a New Year's Eve Brunch the day after seeing Margot and the Nuclear So and So's perform (*swoon*). I started driving to the coffee before checking if the place was even open, and I was quite happy that it was! Started my new years with some delicious waffles and surprisingly good coffee. (This review is being posted a bit late because I saved it as a draft and then forgot to come back to it and post it. I am posting regardless because Henrys deserved the review.)

The sandwich we had was good, VERY Spicy. I would give it 3.5/5. Also it was a good large size. The service was adequate, they even were nice enough to split a sandwich across two plates with chips because neither of us were very hungry. However: the coffee was horrible. It tasted like folgers. It was the plain house blend, nothing fancy. I usually love dark roast. I don't know if it was brewed badly or what the deal was, a few other people were sitting around with mugs of coffee so maybe I'm just picky or something is wrong with my taste buds? I don't know! I would recommend the food if you are looking for a lunch place for say, lunch with a friend. Maybe you might want to skip the coffee though, is all I'm saying. Which is weird because it's a coffee shop.

Another local coffee shop, hooray! Since moving downtown about a year ago, I've been on a mission to try all of the small business coffee shops that Indy has to offer. I had heard good things about Henry's on Yelp and was on leisurely walk one Saturday morning and thought I would pop in for a latte. Super friendly staff, in fact I had an espresso connection with my barista. We bonded over our middles names and and it was quite spectacular. I ordered a medium latte without any syrup, it's easier to detect the roast and intensity of the bean this way. The cafe has a casual laid back feel with a slew of regulars. I didn't try anything on the menu besides the coffee, but they do have options if you're feeling peckish. Free wifi and outgoing staff with a solid coffee menu to delight the senses. p.s. they have outdoor seating with a great view

We have frequented Henry's many times through a few years and have tried and tried to love it but we just can't. It is so hit or miss with good food then horrible food. Today we went and had the cranberry muffin that should have been thrown away probably 3 days ago. The people there never make you feel welcome. No greetings no smiles! I do love the outside space with tables and even dog water dishes. We kept going because we want to support local eateries but we probably won't be back after today. What downtown needs is a great coffee shop!

Really great breakfast food. Was there on a sat morning and it wasn't crowded at all! Service was a little slow but if you're not in a hurry there is no issue. Standard coffee was good and people were very nice. I had a burrito and it was great!

Great little place just off of mass ave. had ham & cheddar panini. Very fast and good! Would definitely go again.

Real mugs! Most coffee places give you a paper cup with a plastic lid even if you're going to stay there. Not this place unless you're taking it to go. They have big ceramic mugs so if feels like home. The food is light, limited and tastes great. They display local artists work on the walls. Oh yeah the coffee is wonderful. I drink it black so I can actually taste it. It's not incredibly acidic or bold. It's a bit nutty and nice and soft. What a great spot in a great neighborhood. Thanks Henry!

Owner accused me of stealing his wi-fi, after interrupting my online meeting, then refused to let me wait until after my meeting to buy a cup of coffee. This forced me to put my meeting on hold for 5 minutes to stand in line and get the espresso I had intended to purchase. When I politely suggested that he might've allowed me to either wait until the end of the meeting or find a better pausing point, he told me to "get off his property."

It's a nice place. Relaxed and friendly staff. I only tried the back coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Food was ok, but I'm willing to try something here in the future. A perk is that there is free parking on East St. before 6 p.m.

Ate brunch here a couple of times during my stay in Indy and found it to be quite satisfying. The brunch is more lunch than breakfast--bagels, sandwiches, quiche, yogurt, that sort of thing. But it's still great. For a more straight up lunch they also have a solid sandwich menu. Those vary from paninis (including dessert paninis with nutella and bananas or peanut butter and marshmallow--YUM!) and regular old sandwiches stacked with tasty sounding toppings. Prices are pretty cheap with most sandwiches under $8. Both days I ate here I went with the breakfast sandwich--a steaming stack of eggs, cheese, and bacon on a grilled bagel. Every order also comes with a bowl of vanilla yogurt. A nice touch. Orders are taken at the counter, they prep and bring out your food to you. No waiter or waitress scenario, very casual. Coffee drinks are also on the menu although I can't speak to those as I had a big honkin' hot chocolate that got me buzzing for the rest of the day. The place isn't fancy but it sure gets the job done in a tasty way.

I like Henry's. It's great to have a solid, reliable coffee shop in Chatam Arch. It's got a beautiful patio -- newly across from Union 50 -- and a balanced food menu. The new management is incredibly friendly and has really worked hard to revamp the place and build relationships with regular customers at the same time. I just don't find myself going there very much, and it's probably because I usually end up in coffee shops to lesson plan. Coffee shops serve a lot of needs, but Henry's is best for social meetings, especially one-on-ones or small groups. Big brunch parties don't fit too well, or book clubs, but you could make it happen on a light day. If you're looking for a place to crank out some work, though, it's not my favorite spot. There are no plug points outside, and the wi-fi is spotty, while the furniture inside is just better suited to hanging than working. Something I would love is a standing high bar, either facing out to the street from the window, or facing the north wall. I think it'd be an easy way to pack more workers in without taking away from the conversational main floor. Bonus, though: there's a vet next door, so you get lots of adorable cats and dogs passing by if you're sitting on the patio. Get ready to cuddle.

I really love this place for what it is. I think it's adorable. The outdoor seating is clutch. The location is perfect - right off the cultural trail/Mass Ave and a couple of blocks from the Murat. The reason for the three stars is this - I'm always underwhelmed by their drinks. They are really delicate in flavor, so often times it feels like the milk overtakes them. I've noticed this in the ice drinks more than anything. I'll still support this business. I like that it's local, and it's a great little spot for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I'll just hope that drinks get tastier.

The food was pretty good. No complaints there. Service was quick! Not sure why they ask for a tip though? Walking the food to my table 5ft away doesn't really consititute a 15%+ tip. Just an observation. Will most likely still return to grab a coffee on a weekend morning since it's such a convienent location.

Within walking distance of my business. Have heard great things about this spot so I decided today I would give it a shot. I looked up the menu on yelp called and quickly got any answer and place my order. The walk was nice for me and when I got there it was open and welcoming and friendly. My order was ready and waiting for me and I was checked out immediately. I ordered the Calif Turkey sand with chips and the Asian slaw... I can say it was worth the walk! Fresh bread w/fresh ingredients... Sorry I waited so long to try this place... Will be back... Want to try the breakfast menu next...

Cheap and delicious food! You can't go wrong with that. The food is good, however they cook your eggs in a microwave. They don't really have a real functioning kitchen. If it is busy, don't be in a hurry.

My dear friends, in this cold season you might find yourself bleakly searching for that perfect hot beverage to warm your soul. Now you can visit the many chain shops around the city, as I have often done myself, but if you are able to get over to Mass Ave, why not keep the Yelp spirit alive and support this wonderful, LOCAL coffee house! I often will seek out Henry's on dreary afternoons when my reading has piled up or my emails need answering. I will order myself one of their many tasty beverages (the white mocha is out of this world!!), find a cozy table, and get to work. The atmosphere is always so cozy and inviting that I will often stay for hours, usually going back for refills on my beverage! Now I cannot speak for the food, as I have yet to have the pleasure of sampling their menu, but I can tell you that from the smells of the place, it must be quite good! One final note and tip to my fellow caffeine addicts would be to say that the service at Henry's is impeccable. You can throw whatever concoction you want at them and these folks will have you covered! Henry's will remain my coffee hide-away for many years to come!!

Very good cinnamon roll. Chai needed a little more spice. My wife loved the giant cup of coffee and said it was good, and she is picky about coffee. We will be back!

Henry's is a nice little cafe right within walking distance from my apartment. After reading the reviews, I just expected more. I stopped in and had a coffee and cinnamon roll, and my wife ordered a waffle and some fancy something-or-another coffee. The cinnamon roll was terrific, moist and flaky and sweet. The waffle was just average, about as good as one from a hotel waffle machine. My regular coffee was flavorful and robust, and Sarah really enjoyed her coffee. The breakfast sandwiches I saw looked great, so maybe I'll come back for one.

I grabbed breakfast with a friend early one Saturday morning and Henry's was such a delightful little nook. We were greeted warmly and had a nice long chat with the barista. The food was exceptional and was just the right amount of food, not too much or too little. This place is where you want to be on a slow weekend morning.

Good atmosphere, clean, and relaxing in a busy coffee shop sort of way. Cappuccino leaves a lot to be desired (so bitter with not the right mix of milk - essentially a espresso shot) as does their weekday breakfast - a made to order egg mix which was so tasteless it was hard to remember I was eating something.

    (2)
  • Christopher L.

Others say the food is good and the menu looks enticing, but the espresso shot was sour and foam was poor. I mentioned info and hours on Yelp were wrong. "The new owner bought it in June and is still working on things. Yeah...ok, wasn't that 6+ months ago? Good to great is about the details. Tamping, steaming and setting proper expectations. Being an independent restauranteur is difficult. BoL.

I live in the neighborhood and love that we have a local coffee shop. It's unpretentious, open spaced, and the food is typically really tasty. However, I've found the manager, middle-aged man w/shaved head - on multiple occasions - to be very rude, and since he just was again, thought I'd submit a review. Before my experience, I witnessed him being rude to the customer in front of me. He had ordered an iced tea and asked the customer if he wanted room for cream. The customer said yes, and could I have it do go? The manager didn't say a word, just gave him an annoyed look and poured it into a paper cup. Really, was that so hard to do? if you want local patrons to come back, you could be a little more gracious! I've noticed he's nicer to some of the older folks. Then I asked for a cup for some water, and he replied "have you been here before?" I said yes, I come here all the time. And he said, just so you know, it's 5 cents a cup. I said, "Oh, I'm sorry - no one has ever charged me for it before" and he snapped back "There's a sign over there and a sign over there." Really? Is the attitude necessary? If your people haven't charged me for it is it my fault? Just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd advise him, especially as a neighborhood shop, so adopt a friendlier attitude towards his clientele. Otherwise, I'll just go to he Foundry instead. Bright spot - the cashier with the red long hair - while chatty :) - is always nice and friendly.

Nice place to sit and have a cup of coffee on a rainy morning. I had a bagel, which was nothing super exciting but was large and fresh and tasty, and a latte, which was the perfect temperature and just as good as you'll get at the S-word. They have free wifi, but I didn't see the password posted anywhere ... I ended up googling to find it. I'll definitely go back the next time I'm downtown!

Breakfast in Indy. Driving through and no idea where to get good food. I like local. Enter Breakfast in Indianapolis on Yelp and this was one of the first listings, so why not? First thing: nice location. Second thing: great service. Third thing: great food. I had the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on whole wheat. This is NOT your McDonalds breakfast sandwich. This was loaded! Oh, and a great cup of coffee. I now have a place for breakfast the next time I am in the Indy area.

While in Indy, I drove by this place daily. Always a good group of people there. Heard a few suggestions as well. I finally stopped in and it was pretty good. Good service, friendly folks, friendly patrons. The coffee is good, the food is pretty decent. A really solid and invited spot. Probably more of a 3.5 than a 4.

    (4)
  • Eric S.

Decently priced and pretty good coffee. My only issue with it is that I walk a few dogs and usually want to get a coffee while I'm out but I have to walk down to Starbucks instead because they have a walk-up window and Henry's doesn't allow pets and I'd rather not leave them outside

  • Maggie O.

Poor service! My sister and I were visiting from out of town last Sunday. I yelped his place and it was well reviewed. I'm sorry to say that we were treated rudely and it took over 35 minutes to get two egg sandwiches. They weren't busy and the 4 employees were milling around and rolling their eyes. They seemed mad that we were patronizing their establishment. How disappointing. Slow and rude service. Mediocre food. Wish we could have tried a better place in Indy.

Despite living like a 7 minute bike ride from this place, I had never stopped in until today. I ordered a medium latte and bottled water and my husband asked for a large cap. The bill came to $8.99, so I thought the bottled water was a bit $$ but I'm the dope for not noticing that they had free water over by the sweeteners, etc. The coffee was hot and good. I always look for sugar-free flavors but, for some reason, I didn't at Henry's. I haven't eaten but I have heard that the food is good. We sat outside -- a freaky January day when it was 60+ degrees! -- and one of the employees came out to check on us and other patrons. Amazingly, there don't seem to be any parking meters on East. Given the proximity to Mass, I was shocked. I look forward to going back and trying a salad or panini. Henry's seems like a good place to cycle to when I'm working from home and need a break from these 4 walls ...

This place is a nice neighborhood coffee shop. Really good coffee, but the breakfast food is just okay. It's basically decent stuff just warmed up. The staff if super friendly plus there's Wi-Fi. I'll be back since it's close.

Super-friendly staff, delicious food, and of course wonderful coffee. Try the spinach & feta breakfast sandwich, hang out, and enjoy their ever-changing displays from local artists!

I'm currently sitting in Henry's on East munching on the California Turkey sandwich as well as sipping on Henry's coffee. Yes, I know, coffee and a turkey sandwich might not sound like the most appealing duo, but for me it's working out nicely. Henry's on East is quickly becoming my go-to coffee shop/all-day hangout, edging out that chain coffee shop that must not be named. As a current job-searcher, I need some place I can go with my laptop that has comfy seating, delicious coffee, and doesn't care that I stay there all day typing away. The atmosphere at Henry's is wonderful, and the fact that they give me free refills on my coffee makes me a happy, job-seeking camper. I haven't gotten too crazy with my coffee or food selections, but I just have a hunch that anything I get here would be spot on delicious. Oh, did I mention they put sprouts on their sandwiches? I love sprouts. I love Henry's on East. Okay, back to job-searching now.

One of my most favorite places to stop by for a cup of coffee. The staff is beyond friendly & the environment is typically quiet, perfect for studying/reading.

Henry's has a great outdoor seating area. The staff are very friendly. I had the Asian Chicken Salad. It was mediocre. The Asian noodles were missing. The chicken was pale. It would better with toasted sliced almonds, rather than blanched almond slivers. The iced tea was great!

Wonder where your CM is? Not to worry - stroll on into Henry's in the morning hours and you'll probably catch her nose deep in a Chai with spectacular company. My loyalty to Henry's received a cherry on the top this past week when the owner strolled over to my table and dropped off an oh-so-sweet and delicious congratulatory Dan's lemon bar. It's the local/small town feel and familiar places that holds Henry's in a special place in my heart.

One of my favorite places to grab brunch and cafe study in town. Quieter music than Starbucks, cute locale. I was studying there for most of their Saturday open hours today and one of the staff made sure I had hot coffee throughout, and I hadn't even asked. Wow!

  • Bill J.

I don't drink coffee. Ever. But I'm still a fan of Henrys for sure. For all of the coffee addicts out there, it appears that they serve pretty much as many varieties of coffee, lattes, cappuccino, espresso, etc. that Starbucks (cough, *corporate* cough) serves. Do they have those annoying names like Venti, Grande, etc. that Starbucks has? I don't know for sure, but I hope not. You''ll have to ask them the next time you order a coffee. Henrys blows Starbucks away in terms of it's menu. It's not even close, Henrys by a landslide. The baked goods are tremendously better (and fresher). Try going into Starbucks and ordering a freshly made panini. Good luck with *that*. Go to a super cool and laid back place like Henrys or rub elbows with the tourists on Mass Ave at Starbucks. Should you even have to think twice about that?

  • Skip M.

The places has changed owners several months back and its mediocre. The coffee was way to bitter and the owner was just not very friendly. He was mad about everything and my curry chicken was so wet it made the bread soogy. It was just not a good experience and not worth the effort.

    (2)
  • Nicole B.

Henry's is one of those places you want so much to love, but always lets you down. The service is crazy slow, even if you're just stopping in for a cup of coffee to go. I stopped by just now to pick up dinner to go and they were closed, 40 minutes before their published closing time.

    (3)
  • Jon C.

I've experienced better, and I've experienced worse. I'm afraid to say it, but the atmosphere at Henry's has changed over the last couple of years. Gone is the local coffee shop vibe where you could hang out with a book or surf the net and pass the day away. Now it's too commercial.. the food quality isn't quite the same, and they close at 7..

Definitely a great place to meet with friends and enjoy a bite or a drink on a nice afternoon. I came in with a friend to do some work ...we were there for 3 hours and no one minded. We ate lunch, did some work, grabbed drinks to go at the end and really had a nice time. It's in a such a great spot that it's easy to get to whether you bike, walk, or drive. For those of you who don't know, it's right off the Cultural Trail on East Street which makes it super easy if you're biking or walking. It has great outdoor seating, which we didn't enjoy because it was a little windy and cool. I went with a smoked turkey sandwich that was good, nothing to brag about but the avocado sauce was super delicious and made it something different than the plain ole turkey sandwich. At the end I ordered a chai latte to go which was warm and hit the spot in the belly!! I recommend this place to those who enjoy a nice spot to eat with lots of shopping close by or those who want to enjoy that coffeehouse feeling without being overwhelmed. It's a definite keeper.

The staff was polite, but the coffee is the worst. I'll drink gas station machine brewed "coffee" before I get a mocha from this place again.

Nice semi-urban vibe just off Mass Ave., with a good mix from flat cap hipsters to people from the 'burbs who are clearly lost. Outdoor seating and there's actually trees and the street's not too busy. Coffee is way above the Indy average, as are the sandwiches and pastries. Parking can be a bitch, as this is as close to the circle you can get without having to pay for street parking, so a lot of all day workers clog the street spots.

  • Lindsey S.

This is my go-to for hangover food, coffee, or a place to study. Great space inside and out for sitting. Their coffee is strong with a perfect blend of flavor and low-acidity. If you don't take it to go they serve it in a mug which adds a little charm. My favorite food item is their BLT which has an avacodo spread and cream cheese all piled on a bagel. It's definitely the best BLT in town. In addition to great food, Henry's staff are always helpful and friendly. One of my favorite spots in Indy.

Coffee was good, but had an annoying wait for a cup of coffee while the two people working ignored me to continue their 10 minute chat with the only other customer in there.

Henry's is your escape from rushing coffee goers that inject themselves with Starbucks and college students that overrun MoJoe's. Need a place to sit for a few hours away from hipsters and feel you are part of the neighborhood, Henry's is definitely for you. The coffee is very good, the baked goods and food are okay. A nice average neighborhood coffee shop. Coffee/Drinks: 3/5 - Chai was pretty bad. And since when is iced chai the default chai? When I say chai I mean hot chai.. right? Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Location: 4/5 - Seats are pretty comfy! Yay!

I had the bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel with hot chocolate and a cinnamon roll. Delicious. I highly recommend eating here. The staff is extremely competent and very friendly. Heck, this place is worthy of way more than five stars. 10/10. Will visit again. :)

  • Jake M.

Place is ok, I get the vibe "What's the least amount of money and time we have to invest to start a coffee shop" food meh, drinks meh, no charming atmosphere, no cool/nice decor, just not a good package, feels like something that should be in a small town and not in one of the coolest parts of Indianapolis.

A limerick review for you: Like tea or coffee? Your in lucks. Best drinks for just a few bucks. And the food has won, The spinach salad? YUM! And it's more homey here than Starbucks.

My experience really surprised me based on all the stellar reviews. I'm a pretty huge fan of brunch, so I was excited to try another downtown option. At first glance, Henry's seems like a cute little local coffee shop. The menu looks tasty, with a variety of breakfast sandwiches, paninis, and baked goods, as well as full coffee menu. I was debating between bagel sandwich options while waiting in line... until I reached the front of the line and saw that all the eggs were microwaved. Um, ok. Definitely not what I was expecting. I immediately lost my appetite for food (because eww, weird) and just ordered an iced coffee instead. My brother was braver than I was and opted for a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. I figured there would be an option of cheeses or something, but nope, just one. The cafe wasn't super busy, but it took 20 minutes for the sandwich to arrive. It wasn't anything fancy -- just a basic, overly eggy sandwich on toast that I could've made at home for far less than $6.50. I wasn't a fan of the coffee, either. I love me some strong coffee, but this tasted like pure jet fuel. My bro wasn't thrilled with his hot coffee, either. Good points? The staff seemed friendly, and the interior was cute. I'm solidly "meh" on this place, though... I wanted a quicker option than Patachou or Hoaglin's, but I clearly should've waited one of those places to get a proper brunch.

This has to be one of those coffee shops were everyone knows your name. The Cheers of coffeehouses. I love those! I really enjoy the large tables and ample outlets. It's kinda annoying when you go into a coffee shop and they have the tiniest little tables, that are more like end tables than anything else. Top that off when you find an outlet ten feet away from you... and it's the only one in the joint. If I have a meeting or computer tapping buddy next to me, it's hard to fit everything on those tiny things. Besides, isn't that what a coffeehouse is for? Gathering together? I also enjoy when shops offer more than just a scone. It's great to have the option of getting a more "nutritious" breakfast of oatmeal. They don't have a ton of tea options, especially in the black tea area, but again, this is a COFFEEshop. I'm always impressed when they offer more than just Lipton. Overall, great place to grab a cup, of whatever, some breakfast and work it out. Just not in the physically sense...

I like locally owned coffee shops. And Henry's was ok. But there was nothing to make it be a place I would want to go back to. The decor was a bit to plain. The breakfast menu was too limited. I felt like I didn't have many options if I wanted something hot. I ended up with a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich on toast. It was big...maybe too much egg actually. But not flavorful. It either needs better bread or cheese...or maybe more salt & pepper in the eggs. Something. Just bland. I do like that it comes with either yogurt or a banana. I took the banana since it was something I could take with me and the sandwich was too big for me to need anything else. Coffee was fine. Again, nothing spectacular. The best thing about the coffee shop is the patio (but it was winter so we didn't sit out there) and the convenience next door to where we were staying (Nestle Inn). Would I go back? If I was staying at the Nestle again...yes. But I might save my breakfast voucher ($10 value) for lunch and walk somewhere else for breakfast. Their lunch choices looked much better.

Walked here from my abode a few minutes away on a whim for Saturday breakfast with a friend. A little pricey but very tasty! I got an egg sandwich on a bagel & couldn't finish it to save my life- it was just too big! My friend got a breakfast burrito & inhaled it, homemade sauce on the side included. His latte was spot-on too. We kept eyeballing the menu for a potential next visit- maybe just for desserts!

A very friendly staff and great environment. The food tastes good and the yogurt is extremely tasty. My only qualm with giving a 4 star is that that the service is a bit slow (but the food is worth the wait). Avoid if you are in a hurry to go to a meeting, but enjoy if you have a relaxed morning (or a breakfast meeting there).

Whenever I go to a place for the first time I simply ask what they recommend. I like to do this because a place may be known for something and it's easy to find out about what makes the place, especially a local one, popular or well liked. Wise employees give their favorite choice as well as a couple of the popular items. Usually I will go with the first suggestion unless the descriptions of another intrigue me more. I settled on the first this time, the Cuban. I am not an expert on sandwiches but I think it's a unique eat. The mix of pork AND ham took me off guard as I read the overhead menu. But, I usually regard this as a check to TRY something. Wow! The mix of meats and the sweat mustard and pickles was AMAZING! Missing that with a simple latté, created a nice meal/drink combo. Next time I will go for the slaw in place of the chips but they were good in their own right. Finally, atmosphere can enhance an eating experience and this place has such a quaint, quiet, calm feel its a tough pick of eating inside or out. Oh...the smiles from other customers was reassuring as if they, though working, wanted through a soft, reassuring smile to let me know the "intorvertedness" was because they were working while in contemplation/refuel mode. PS: As I write this post an employee from a nearby business walked in. Good sign! Try it out! It's a hard to beat coffee shop/bistro combo.

I love a neighborhood coffee shop, and Henry's is pretty much the one for Cottage Home. A literally 2 minute drive or a nice 10-15 minute stroll and your at this friendly establishment. The staff is beyond friendly, as well, and I love that one of them was set up with her kids selling Girl Scout Cookies this past Saturday. So. Adorable. Beyond that, the coffee and coffee drinks are great. The food is delicious and they have a huge menu. No reason for anyone to say there isn't something for the to eat. Although they don't carry gluten-free menu items, my kid was VERY happy with bacon and quiche, haha :). We love this as a Saturday-read-the-paper-hangout-with-the -fam spot. And you will too.

Rustic yet trendy, laid back atmosphere, usually has cool art on the walls. Never had anything but great food and great service. Did I mention the great food? The pastries are made from scratch by the staff and manager. Can't beat it!

I rolled in here for a lunch meeting but decided to grab a breakfast sandwich. It was amazing. And tasty. And huge. There must be an art to shoehorning 2-3 scrambled eggs and sausage patty in between some wheat bread, but it tasted as magnificent as it looked.

I was in town for a wedding this past weekend and my husband and I needed a place to grab breakfast. We loved Henry's so much we came here twice! I had a breakfast bagel sandwich and the breakfast burrito. Both sandwiches were delicious and fresh! The coffee is hot and strong. The staff at Henry's are friendly. We will definitely return when we are in the area.

Good food, coffee, great staff, they make you feel welcomed, sit and work and chat as long as you'd like! Only one bathroom tho, and its had some issue or another each time of I've been there. Just a pet peeve.

What a seemingly popular little cafe! We were in close to noon on a Saturday and there was a line nearly 10 minutes long. I ordered a rabbit bagel (tomatoes, cucumbers, sprouts, cream cheese) and chai latte, both were pretty good. Nice selection of food, great locally-owned business appeal. Support your community and come here instead of Starbucks! If I lived across the street like my sister does, I surely would.

Henry's is not just a great little coffee shop, it's a damn good place to eat. Their brunch menu is really varied and everything is very good. Additionally, they have ample outdoor seating which allows you to linger over your coffee, long after your food is gone. The staff is very friendly too!

Henry's is the kind of place you want to keep to yourself, for fear of it becoming so crowded you can't ever find a seat! Great atmosphere, great coffee, great service - beats SBucks by a mile. I like to go by myself and people watch or go with a friend to play scrabble and chit chat. The food is excellent as well so its a great stop for lunch or an after dinner treat. Highly rec'd!

This place has what I'm looking for in a local coffee house: good coffee and drink selection, friendly and attentive staff, plenty of seating both inside and out, nice selection of both savory and sweet eats, and a mix of people from all around. Add to that walls full of local art and good music in the background and you have the makings of a great neighborhood establishment!

Henry's deserves an upgrade now that I'm addicted to their muffins. Something about the texture just drives me crazy. They are a bit crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside. That exterior crunch is what really keeps me stopping by the East St. cafe even when I don't plan to. Most coffeehouses seem to serve overly large, gooey, super-sweet muffins. Don't get me wrong, Henry's are sweet, but there's lots of other flavor packed in there. For example, they use real, tart cranberries in their cranberry muffins. The new "sunshine muffins" are cinnamon-y, nutmeg-y, raisin-y goodness. I never thought I'd become a muffin junkie, but here we are.

I thought I had written a review for this place already. Henry's is friendly & locally owned. They have more than 1 vegetarian option for lunch as well. My cappuccinos & lattes have been good each time I've gone in & the staff is friendly & helpful. I wish the bookstore next door was still around though, as it made for a fun outing to go to Outword Bound & then have lunch & coffee at Henry's outside. Ah well- Henry's is on a picturesque, tree-lined block & if you're bored, you can always count the number of people that walk by with dogs. Hint: It's a lot.

Tasty food. Unfortunately, crappy service and crappier baristas. I frequent Henry's during the weekday for an afternoon boost. I have yet to be anything but disappointed. They always seem understaffed, the day barista both doesn't know how to make coffee (always oversteamed milk and bad espresso; I even caught her reusing milk) and has zero customer service skills. Going to Henry's during the day is like going into a bad Starbucks. But at least Starbucks makes you feel welcome.

    (1)
  • Lothar M.

Henry's is one of the few coffee shops in town that serves both coffee and lunch. The coffee is good, though not exceptional, while the lunch offer goes well beyond a coffee shop. The bagels are excellent (I had a BLT and some spicy turkey-bacon bagel), while my wife loves their Spinach Salad. In addition, people at Henry's are very friendly and it is a nice place to work or relax.

I have to update this to 'Yay! I'm a fan.' since this is my go to coffeeshop. I really like the lady that runs this place, it's not as crowded as Starbuck's, and the couches are really comfy. It does close at 7 now although you can stick around for a little longer.

If you're headed to Starbucks definitely keep going and head straight to Henry's! It's located in the same spot where Vic's once was. The coffee is better, costs less, and the food portions are generous for the price. They have a pretty broad menu, but they'll make salads to order. The paninis are yummy, and there's homemade soups in the winter and fruit smoothies in summer. Can't forget to mention the staff, who are always great, always friendly -- no matter how early in the a.m.! As for atmosphere, it's how I'd love my living room to be -- open, very comfy yet modern living. Relaxing sums it up best (I've seen more than a few people 'resting their eyes' while their order was prepped!) Cream walls, oversized comfy overstuffed chairs, plenty of seating (and tables set with cloth tablecloths and organicly-styled centerpieces -- how's that for attention to detail!). Other pluses: wi-fi (plenty of lap-top totting patrons!) and a range of people with varied backgrounds and ages -- gay, straight, young and old.

Henry's is an excellent coffee shop in downtown. It's across the street from my building, so I visit frequently. As a student, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they have tons of outlets and free WiFi. Good chai tea latte and the one time I had lunch there, that was okay, too. Great atmosphere - there are always groups in there chatting and having a good time. Exactly the sort of Starbucks-alternative hipsters are looking for :)

I'll continue the 5-star party. I wouldn't really change a thing about this place. I came in from Chicago and needed a place to hang out for a few hours. A very pleasant spot to eat, drink coffee, and work. Soothing lighting, table cloths, and amazingly, a classical station playing on the radio. I actually got a salad here which was quite good but most other people were drinking coffee. Seemed to be lots of regulars coming in and talking to the super friendly owner. I must say it's nice to go to a place like this and not feel like I'm being looked down upon by the too cool for school 23 year old barista behind the counter who insists on blasting their flavor of music, everyone else's ears be damned.

Have you ever just woken up in the morning and decided you wanted cake for breakfast? Not a donut or a muffin or a scone or any other similar cake-like but not technically cake variety of carbohydrate, but a large wedge of regal, frosted, double layer cake? Well, if you go to Henry's for breakfast and say "cake" to them at 8 in the morning they will hand it over like it ain't no thing. In other news, they also have good normal breakfast food. For some reason, their yogurt parfait just speaks to me, as do their coffee drinks. The specials can get expensive, but if you stick with the basics you'll be good to go.

Don't bother stopping in here - I did you the favor of trying it out and am here to report our visit left a lot to be desired. We tried the first two breakfast burritos. I'm pretty sure they are microwaved. My bf commented the coffee tasted like a hotel coffee-really watery and bland. I ordered a cafe au lait and it was probably the worst one I've ever had. Taste and Calvin Fletcher Coffee Co make this drink the intended way, and it is a completely different beverage than what I was served here. Two women walked in after my boyfriend and I had been seated for 5-10 minutes and their food was brought out before ours was. This place might as well be a starbucks. Very disappointing.

If you have to spend the whole day on and off of Mass Ave, it's certainly not a bad thing to spend much of it at Henry's. While I didn't grab any food from this adorable little cafe, I sampled many a beverage and took in the overall ambiance of the place as the day rolled on! If it's a gorgeous day, grab a seat on the patio. The shady trees and variety of seating makes it a lovely place to sit and enjoy your latte. Be aware, though, the street can get super loud with multiple buses coming through! Inside, Henry's (at least in the morning hours) is like a library. So. Quiet. As in so quiet I felt like I was being too loud. But that's neither here nor there. As for the drinks, I was quite fond of my hazelnut latte. It was made with the right amount of foam and neither too sweet or too dull. A lovely way to start the day, if I do say so. Both prices and staff were friendly and I have no doubt I could wedge myself into a corner and get a ton of work done.

My wife, myself, and a friend of ours walked like 1.25 miles to here from our hotel. It was worth it. The coffee was excellent, the breakfast sandwich was delicious. The service was friendly. It's not super fast (it's not slow either). The food options are good for a coffee shop. You've got some hot choices and some baked goods choices. Try the chocolate muffin...to-die-for! This is a great local coffee shop with great breakfast food. I highly recommend it!

Stopped here because it seems a Yelp friend of mine stops here almost every week. I had to stop in for lunch and see what was the draw. What I found was a really nice cafe with great and friendly service, great seating inside and out, and great fresh sandwiches. My only regret was that maybe I should have come in for breakfast, I saw a lot of things I wanted to try. Oh well guess that's a great reason to come back soon :)

Henry's is one of the few local coffee shops left in existence. For the price of a cup of coffee and a scone at Starbucks, you can get a delicious home made muffin and a latte. I prefer the breakfast sandwiches, which are freshly made and huge! You really can't go wrong coming into Henry's, but don't expect immediate gratification. Making something fresh actually takes a minute.

    (5)
  • B S.

The breakfast sandwich was mediocre and the coffee was terrible. Also, very overpriced even if the food was good! I don't know how this place got such good reviews.

Henry's is definitely a quaint hidden gem on Mass Ave. Best for breakfast or lunch....or dinner if you're a salad/sandwich person. Also has a weekend brunch menu (awesome breakfast burritos!!) The homemade desserts never disappoint. If you are a vegetarian I highly recommend the veggie sandwich. It's a little on the more expensive side for a deli sandwich or salad. Not only is Henry's great for the food, they also sell art from local artists!

Excellent cappuccino, one of the best I've had in Indy (4.5 stars out of 5). We also ordered a bread pudding muffin plus an egg + cheese sandwich on a bagel. The bread pudding muffin was very good ...I don't necessarily believe that it was intended to be a breakfast item, but it worked! They warmed it up and put a nice icing on it, delightful (4 stars). As for the bagel sandwich, it wasn't mind-blowingly different than what you'd expect but was tasty nonetheless (3.5 stars). We loved the cappuccinos and the friendly service. I'd happily return to Henry's the next time I'm downtown looking for caffeine/breakfast.

A great coffee shop just north of Mass Ave on East street, they have a nice dog-friendly patio with lots of seating. They have free wi-fi and a tasty breakfast/lunch menu. I usually get a latte and one of the breakfast sandwiches to go if I want something to propel me for a whole day! They have great portions and fresh fruit is always an option for a side.

  • Jackie H.

I can't rave about this place enough. Anytime I have someone ask me a good coffee place near mass I ALWAYS send them to Henry's of East Street. It is local owned, awesome! Being pregnant I have to limit my coffee intake so I switch to hot chocolate often. It is so hard to find a really good hot chocolate. Starbucks, did cut it! They have a hot chocolate to die for! My husband and I go here almost ever Sunday morning for breakfast and reading the paper. I have stuck with the classic oatmeal with brown sugar and strawberries! He typically gets the breakfast burrito. We have NO complaints. Everything is well priced, the coffee is really great and the atmosphere is friendly. You can't go wrong at Henry's .. the staff also rocks!

  • Benjamin H.

3.5 stars really.. decent coffee & food menu.. also a good spot for Sunday brunch. The tables and chairs need to be changed, they really kill the atmosphere. (I know I'm being picky) The staff is friendly, but the service can be a bit slow.. but nothing to get in a huff about. The outdoor seating & bicycle rack is a plus!

Great local coffee shop. Small but nice selection of teas. Good food (standard cafe variety from what I could tell). Great layout. Wonderful, warm service. Plenty of outlets to let you enjoy the free wireless. No real cautionary notes on this place. It was very crowded when I stopped by at lunch time on a recent rainy day, but seats are generally available when I've stopped in during the afternoon or early evening. Nice mixed crowd with a blend of regulars and visitors to Mass Ave.

The epitome of what a great local coffee shop can be - friendly and efficient, they have it down. I'm not a fancy coffee drink guy, so I stick with their regular brew and always enjoy lingering over a second or third cup while I soak up the atmosphere. Have only done breakfast here (it is one of my fav breakfast meeting locations) - the breakfast sandwiches are affordably priced and come with a side of either yogurt or whole fruit. The clientele is often a mix of regulars, guests from the awesome bed and breakfast next door and business meetings. They do have wireless internet and there are often a few people camped out working for a few hours as well. Outdoor seating is available and one of my favorite things about Henry's is the location - just a block off Mass Ave and a half block off the Indianapolis Cultural Trail - I'm often arriving by bicycle and appreciate the bike rack that is available. For those driving here -it is worth noting that the street parking is free, but it is often fairly full. There is a small parking lot right between the bed and breakfast and Henry's building...with an awesome mural painted on the wall that you won't want to miss either!

We had Henry's on a fantastic Saturday for brunch! If it was a tad warmer we would've sat outside. What a great location! I ordered the breakfast burrito which came with a side of delicious yogurt! The burrito was great and I didn't feel like I had just eaten something terrible for me. I agree with the review about the tables and chairs messing with the warm, welcoming atmosphere, but it didn't bother me too much. The staff was friendly and sort of helpful. I'm not a coffee drinker so I stuck with water but only had about a half of a glass because the water was practically empty the entire time we were there. Other than that, it made for a great start to our Saturday!

Pop Quiz: What are the defining characteristics of an excellent coffee shop? A. Calming ambience B. Friendly/helpful staff C. Unique interior design D. Quality (fresh) drink selections E. Accessible location F. A & D G. All of the Above Ok, who am I kidding? Everyone knows that whenever "All of the Above" is an answer choice, it's all of the above! Sheesh, Yelpers are too smart for their own good! I find Henry's to be one of my favorite Coffee Shops in Indianapolis. While I have no idea who "Henry" is, I'd certainly like to shake his hand for giving his name to such an outstanding business. As previously mentioned, they possess everything that a quality coffee shop should have. Further, because I was excessively dropped as a child (kidding! Love you moms!), I appreciate how they always remember what I want to order. I mean...come on, who doesn't like to feel special?! Speaking of adolescence and my Mom, Henry's arguably has the best brownies you will find. ANYWHERE!! they put the BOW! in brownie! Like a kung-fu chop to the taste buds! To top it off, Henry's also always has some of the coolest art displayed inside the café. There is also a REALLY cool mural that is being painted on the North-facing wall. I HIGHLY suggest enjoying your coffee, lunch, pastry, etc. outside, because the trees create a very pleasant environment. In all, if you're looking for a first-rate coffee shop, Henry's is a fantastic choice.

What an adorable coffee shop!! Yes, I said adorable. Warm, cozy, welcoming, all the things coffee shops should be...and great prices! We decided to indulge in some dessert and caffeine after the brew-fest yesterday and give me a little break from walking. It was nice to sit in the comfy leather chairs and I got a peanut butter cookie the size of my head (literally) that was just the right balance of peanut buttery and crunchy! I want another - though the size really was intimidating! They made me an iced white mocha which I tweeked the order on just a bit, b/c ...wait for it - they do NOT mess around on shots! The 24 ounce drink comes with 4(!!!) shots of espresso, which is pure madness! I went for 1/3 full caf, the rest decaf. It was made quite well, stirred and I cut the pumps of WM to 2 instead of 4, b/c I don't like it to be too sweet. Absolutely enjoyable. While I am a huge Starbucks whore, this place was quieter and definitely great for the study, read-a-book, relax and be alone crowd. It is in a very trendy area that is growing with upper middle class singletons of Indy, and I can see it really thriving and doing well in the Mass Ave. neighborhood (which it obviously is considering it was pretty full on a Saturday afternoon and the five-star reviews here) for a very long time. Definitely skip Starbucks and try Henry's if you are nearby. You won't regret it.

We were early for church and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. The atmosphere was really inviting and everyone on staff spoke to us at least once! The food was good, but not great. I had quiche and my guest had a croque madame. The crust of the quiche wasn't done and the bread on the croque wasn't that great. Otherwise these two dishes would have been perfect. The fruit was fresh and the coffee was great! I will definitely return.

Great coffee, great food, great service and definitely great people. They know their regulars and they treat them like old friends. I suggest the BLT Bagel with the avocado aioli. Also, are perfectly willing and happy to make a coffee drink that is not on their menu. For example, a latte with cinnamon and honey. They make it very well.

Stopped in on a Wednesday morning. There was a good flow of customers coming in and out of the place. I had a latte. It was tasty. I had a breakfast sandwich and it was only so-so. The outside of the building is really nice, the inside is more standard fare. It turned out to be a good choice, but I suspect that there might be better options out there.

Wonderful experiences during weekdays when I need to grab a coffee and WiFi signal, but an even better one on the weekend for Sunday brunch! Yum! Try a breakfast burrito. We had the smoked pulled pork and shared the serving. Left full and content.

Gotta love Henry's. The coffee and espresso are great. The staff here is very friendly and can't be beat. The pesto chicken sandwich, BLT bagel and biscuits and gravy (weekends only) are delicious. The location and ambiance really set it apart from its competition. I love relaxing with a coffee outside during the summer. The indoors area is well-lit and is a great place to study, work or meet with friends. This is as close to the setting of a european neighborhood cafe as you will find in Indianapolis. This is my clean, well-lighted place.

I've been a regular at Henry's for the past couple of years. This fabulous local spot has great, affordable bottomless cups of coffee and a wide selection of delicious sandwiches and salads. I had the BLT bagel for lunch today and it changed my life. Lots of crispy bacon, fresh tomato, and a yummy avocado aioli spread served with a side of fresh strawberries -- a perfect summer lunch. Henry's has a great atmosphere and is friendly to work-at-homers like me who need to get out of the house occasionally. You'll see a mix of people on laptops plus locals hanging out or having meetings. Friendly and spunky staff will remember your order and serve it up with a smile (or some good-natured ribbing). Don't miss Henry's on East!

Henry's on East has always been my coffee house to go to to escape the usual boring over-populated Starbucks and student infused MoJoes. But there has been a change recently, that is for the better... the food is amazing and the hours are more consistent! They have always servged a good cup of joe, however today, I ate the best grilled cheese paninni that I've ever had, and the asian slaw is crisp and full of flavor. This pannini was melted all the way through so that the cheese was gooey and the pannini was crisp. I haven't had everything, but if the other food is half as good, this place is a winner!!

  • Molly W.

Cute place a bit off the beaten path - and as a bonus, there was no metered parking in front! The service was great and my iced mocha was excellent (so much better than Starbucks, actually). My only complaint is that it was busy (not a bad thing for the shop though....) and that space was at a premium.

I agree with all other reviews of this place and have nothing to add except: Keywords: study cafe There. Now when someone is looking for a downtown coffee house that's also a good place to study, Henry's will come up ... just as it should. PS - Oh yeah, and the brownies here are fantastic.

This is a lovely coffeeshop tucked away behind Mass Ave on (here comes a big surprise) East St. I know, you're shocked. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is so good (I love the veggie panini--It's stuffed full of veggies and is tasty and good for two meals), the coffee is delicious, not like Burnt'coffee'forFourBucks. Ahem. As a grad student who likes to mix up my work environment, I love the easy outlet availability (no one needs to stare down that one person who's been hogging the only power supply in the building the whole day). WiFi is free (YAY!) and, seriously, BLAZING fast. I love. The place is a little hard to find parking for (not the owner's fault, I know) so that limits my ability to go there, and I sometimes find the tables and chairs a little uncomfortable. And in the winter, it is seriously FREEZING in there. I've had to leave because I was just too cold to sit there. Aside from my personal issues with aesthetics and temperature, the place is rock solid and worth a visit.

I like to come here for a cup of tea and sometimes breakfast--it's got a nice cozy atmosphere and now they have some plush leather chairs! It's never too busy, although the service is a little slow. Their pastries look awesome, like white chocolate bread pudding...drool.... Weekends they also serve breakfast, which comes in huge portions and with a yogurt and/or fruit cup. Had the BLT sandwich which was overflowing with bacon, and dare I say, a little too much bacon?! When the weather's nice, or even when it's still chilly out, you can sit out on the patio. Big cups of coffee and tea and to-go cups when I need them--I always do.

Great spot for breakfast. In fact, I've never had a better bagel. I am so glad a friend of mine introduced me to the Rabbit Bagel. With sprouts, tomato and cream cheese--and a side of fresh fruit or yogurt--it is absolutely delicious. If I could roll out of bed a half hour earlier and wasn't so frugal, you'd find me sitting out front of Henry's at least once a week devouring the Rabbit Bagel and sipping a mocha. Fun atmosphere, and there's always cool artwork adorning the walls. All the pastries and muffins in the counter are always so mouthwatering, but I'm definitely a creature of habit, so I just stick with the aforementioned selections.

Love this place!! People are so friendly and good is delicious. I love their bagel options. This is a great place to head on a Sat morning and drink a cup of tea and read the paper!

When I first arrived in Indianapolis I wondered where all of the cafes were (beyond Starbucks). I wasn't looking for coffee; I was really looking for a tribe of people huddled over laptops to join. I found them at Henry's on East Street. It is a bright, mellow cafe with good music and a neighborhood vibe. Straight-forward food offerings that could be a meal or a snack. Plentiful seating that includes a sidewalk patio. Free wifi.

The best coffee bistro in the Midwest...trust me.

Henry's is a cute coffee shop tucked away on East st. just north of Mass ave. I must say, the coffee is some of the best I have had. The Saturday and Sunday brunch specials are very good, my only complaint is there is usually only a couple of options. That being said, I have had the brunch special two weeks in a row and was very satisfied each time. During my latest visit I was served with a spinach, provolone, tomato and pesto quesadilla with a side of bacon and yogurt parfait. A strong recommendation is their delicious cinnamon rolls. Request it heated with some butter on top!

My favorite coffee shop/brunch spot around Mass Ave. I learned about Henry's on East because of their newest venue, Henry's on Penn. They split working at both places, so I wanted to try out the original. I was greeted by their staff that I knew, and it already felt like home. My favorite menu items are their egg salad sandwich, breakfast EVERYTHING & yogurt. I could drink their coffee all day, and their parfait for breakfast too. I also really like their Asian coleslaw with lunch. Breakfast & lunch plates are pretty filling, so the $6-$9 is worth it. I love the wifi, and the seating is pretty open. Get ready for the hunt to find a seat on the weekend, especially around lunch time. The church crowd seeming loves Henry's too! If you are downtown around Penn & Washington, check out their coffee shop in the One North Penn (Flagstar Bank) building open during the weekday mornings & early afternoons.

I'm not sure how I missed this place since I hang out on Mass Ave so often. Other than it's 2 blocks off Mass Ave and it looks like a house :) You won't just stumble across this place, but it's worth take a few turns away from the bars and fooderies. The service was wonderful. I get the idea that the woman who served us was also the owner. She was polite, fun, and prompt with the service. She bounced around while we wrote and made sure the music wasn't too loud (although we did listen to Sting's first solo album four times while she was there....something I can appreciate as a slightly OCD writer but which humans might find alarming). The brunch looked awesome - but we got there a bit late for that (re: after 2 pm when brunch stops). Still: they have a full array of coffees and lunch-ables (I had the turkey sandwich with chips. Do that, although it's HUGE!). I'm definitely carving out time for this the next time I head to Mass Ave.

Solid breakfast menu with stellar coffees... Yogurt with every meal you just can't beat. Tea lovers - not the biggest or best tea selection, but wifi, plenty of seating including outside and a great neighborhood feel gives this place a solid 4 turtles.

This is my first visit to Henry's Coffee Bistro and I really like it. I mobile office all over Indy and I have my favorites. But I struggle sometimes downtown to find a good spot where I don't feel rushed, don't have to pay for parking (over and over), and I like the atmosphere/food/crowd. I can check off all of those at Henry's. Today, I met a friend for a quick meeting, enjoyed the B.L.T. Bagel (which was very tasty) and got some work done. I was expecting coffee, tea and baked goods, but the menu is pretty expansive. Lots of drink and breakfast choices, sandwiches, salads, paninis and desserts. The ladies at the table next to me are discussing a new project and are really excited about it, there's a table with a team working on what looks like some graphic design and a suit in sitting by the window scanning his iPad. Nice crowd! I'll be back to Henry's to pay some rent next time I'm downtown.

Their regular black coffee is great. Definitely good quality stuff and strong. The low rating is due to the atmosphere. The store is just a bunch of cheapy looking kitchen diner-like tables. It didn't have a cozy feeling that would invite someone to stay and linger with a coffee over conversation or a book. I came on a snow day and the floor was kind of a mess from melting snow and dirt tracked in from boots.
