In from out of town on business and needed a place to get lunch and do some work. Found this spot on Yelp, and it is awesome. Delicious coffee and amazing sandwiches. Plenty of places to plug in computers, etc., plus free Wifi. Very friendly staff, food came out fast, and the vibe is great. Try the Morton sandwich. Awesome!

Foundry Provisions is a great local coffee and panini shop. We probably go there at least once a month for lunch even though we no longer live in the area. The Foundry serves up a lot of local fare as well, including Nicey Treats, Smoking Goose meats, and Broad Ripple Chip Company. One of my favorite things is that they offer a lot of flexibility with orders. As is typical for small local businesses, they will do whatever they need to make sure the customer always comes first. I first hand witnessed an older man come in with his wife for lunch one day. He didn't know what a lot of the sandwich offerings were, so asked for descriptions of everything on the menu. The staff was wonderful, took their time, and let him order whatever he wanted on his sandwich. I usually get their soup and sandwich combo. They serve 2 different soups (one is normally vegan) every time. They have several unique options for vegetarians as well. The only downside is that it can be difficult to find seating at time and there is street parking only. The issue with seating is that outlets are on the booths, so many single individuals sit at the booths to do their work, leaving only a few tables and the back 'bar' with stools open. However, in the summer they have a wonderful porch that assists with the small dining area. Their coffee is always fresh and strong! No overly sweetened espresso drinks here. They have a mocha that they make with less milk that is to die for.

Came into this coffee shop one Saturday morning (they were open July 4!). It wasn't awfully busy, so my husband ordered the sriracha savory breakfast sandwich, and I got a chocolate croissant and an iced coffee. The iced coffee was too bitter for my taste (even after loading it up with half and half). I'll probably get the chai tea that has such wonderful reviews next time. The croissant wasn't great, but my husband's breakfast sandwich was pretty good, so the plan is to come back one day for lunch and try from their variety of lunch sandwiches. Overall, I can see myself coming back to study or sit down with a nice book. They do have free wifi for guests, which is a plus. Ample bike parking and a nice staff.

Okay, Indy, we are about to have a problem. You have so many great coffeeshops. How is one to choose? A good start would be Foundry Provisions. Give me a good chai tea for an even better price and I'm a happy camper. Add a bagel with homemade cream cheese - the sriacha was good stuff - and you have a great start to your day. I loved being able to sit outside. The inside wasn't too appealing to me so if I stopped in during the winter, I probably wouldn't stay. One complaint, parking could potentially be an issue. No lot so have to depend on finding street parking. Great place. Will definitely be back.

My friend and I stopped in for lunch after the Indy 500 Parade. We worked up an appetite after walking all over the city. So glad this place was open. (The) Morton: Mortadella, artichoke heart, spinach, provolone, Sriracha mayo You can't go wrong with that. It's one fine panini! Paired with great local coffee (Tinker Coffee Co.), it was a satisfying meal. Process: Order at the counter, pay on an iPad (be prepared to tip or not), fill your coffee, find your seat, pick up your food when it's ready, eat, clean up after yourself (there are bins for your dirty dishes). It's a good place to study. There's good lighting and the booths have adequate plug-ins.

Cozy atmosphere, pastries, and coffee drinks. Pretty rad. My son loves the hot chocolate and it's quite a treat to swing by then walk to school (Herron High School) together. I don't spend a lot of time hanging out here but it's perfect for a quick morning snack and beverage. I'd imagine it to be a nice spot for accomplishing some school or off site work.
(4)David M.
Stopped in for some lazy Sunday breakfast-with-book. Bonus point - Nicey Treat popsicles on hand Bonus point - Long's glazed yeast donuts Donut - 5/5 Long's never fails Egg sandwich - 4/5 Eggs were cooked well (not overcooked), good bacon, small sandwich overall Latte - 3/5 Lost something between the espresso and the steamed milk. A little burnt tasting. Seating - 3/5 The booths are not comfortable for lounging... Not an issue unless you're trying to lounge I guess.

Stop #3 of the Caffeine Crawl, 2014! I am almost embarrassed to admit that we had not been here prior to the crawl. Why oh why have we not found this little spot before? Donut holes from Long's Bakery. The best macchiato I have had in a long time. Just 2 of the good things that came from this stop at Foundry Provisions today. We also learned that they bring in lots of locally offered goodies -- smoking goose, teas me teas, traders point creamery -- to add to the menu. We were very sad that time did not allow us to sample one of the sandwiches we saw cooking on the panini presses... they looked and smelled AMAZING! Our hostess for the crawl was really cool -- taking the time to educate us on the history of the building and it's name sake. We loved the setting and the vibe and cannot wait to come visit in the summer with our furkids as the patio is dog friendly. The hubs LOVED the chalkboard wall out front that has been "taken over" by Heron School of Art teens... so cool. We already have promised our artsy 16 year old that we will take her back as soon as possible. Well worth the trip and we will return to try those sandies! :)

I had a delicious sandwich with mushrooms, red pepper and spinich. Plus they had gluten free options. Good outdoor seating. Great place for lunch with a friend.
(4)Scott M.
5 star coffee and breakfast spot, I love this dang place. The traditional cappuccinos here are in the top 3 in Indy, the pastries are always fresh, and the savory breakfast panini is damn near amazing. Even the house drip coffee is great and that's generally my least favorite brewing method for caffeine. You can't go wrong here. Overall, Foundry just has a great vibe to it. Lots of natural light, good amount of seating both inside and out. Friendly staff. Toddler factor: Ample room for high chair at 4 different tables inside without impacting walkways. (They have several high chairs.) Enough pastry options that you should be able to find something that a little person will like. And if your kid is like mine, s/he may find tamping espresso shots to be quite the mesmerizing show.
(5)Amanda F.
Holy moly this place is amazing! The staff is very welcoming as soon as you walk in the door and their coffee and paninis are very delicious! I ordered a large coffee and the Henry V panini. While I was waiting on the sandwich to be prepared, I chose my coffee blend from a variety of thermoses labeled with different names. I chose a darker roast made with beans from Honduras. It was so deep and yummy that I had to buy a bad of the locally roasted beans. The sandwich still has me dreaming about it! The cheese was so gooey and melted among the roasted red peppers and other fresh ingredients on it. The bread was nice and crispy/toasted on the outside and made for a sandwich to remember!
(5)Jody B.
A little disappointed when we realized the menu included only sandwiches, soup and ice cream. But the sandwiches were great and tho they usually "pressed" them(panini-style), they happily made mine cold. A little snafu, when we inadvertently picked up another person's sandwich, handled gracefully by staff. Could be avoided by asking for names with orders. Would definitely go back.
(4)Elyse M.
Went to this coffee shop for the first time this past weekend. It was the BEST cup of coffee I have ever had. I had an Almond Late with skim milk. I was beyond impressed. Also had a breakfast sandwich and toast. It was so good. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was great. Will go back again and again!!

I finally made it to Foundry Provisions and absolutely fell in love. I adore the vibrant orange and blue exterior. I found the interior to be modern, slight industrial, but the fresh flowers everywhere made the place so warm and inviting. The interior is larger than I expected. It was clean and well lit. They also have outdoor seating. I can 30 minutes before closing time, but I was still warmly greeted by staff. I wasn't sure what to order, so the guy suggested the dinner special which was soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for $9. There were two soup options: a tomato fennel or potato bacon. Normally I would go for the potato bacon, but I'm watching my calories so opted for the tomato. In addition to the special I ordered an ice tea and a huge iced cookie. Excluding the tip, my meal cost about $14 and some change. The grilled cheese was pretty standard. Nothing to write home about. The tomato fennel soup was surprisingly delicious and this is coming from someone who is not a big tomato fan. It was a nice light dinner. I wish I could have stayed longer, but they were closing. There are so many wonderful things on the menu I want try. The scones and muffins looked superb. The uniquely named pressed sandwiches sounded divine. More than anything I enjoyed the atmosphere and the beautiful and thoughtful decor. This place is a winner in my book. I foresee frequent check-in's at this place.

Coffee breaks. Work meetings. Friend's birthdays. I've experienced all of those things at Foundry Provisions. This colorful spot is one of my new favorite hangouts. It always ends up being the perfect middle meeting point when I need to schedule a meeting. One meeting went from breakfast to lunch, so I ate their twice in one day. The seafood bisque was creamy and delicious, while the bagels and sandwiches are also unique and filling. My only complaint is that I find it to be a little pricey for both coffee and food. I hope they can even that out a bit as they age. Large booths with outlets are available along with large windows that let you look out onto Delaware and 16th Street. It's the perfect combination of work and play (for a coffee shop!)
(4)Taylor J.
Maybe it was because I wasn't a regular, but the staff wasn't very friendly or approachable. The sandwich I ordered seemed severely overpriced for a simple turkey, romaine, provolone, and tomato sandwich with stone ground mustard that was decent, but not life changing.
(3)Nic J.
My wife and I sometimes take a morning jog here. The coffee is always really tasty and the bottomless cup is a good deal. They also have Long's doughnuts, but without the line! The bagels are great, with different flavors of homemade cream cheese. The pano is are great too. Sarah loves the steel-cut oats with fruit. Great place.
(5)Janice Ann R.
I like this little place. It's a beautiful little coffee house astride the corner of 16th & Alabama, clean & well lit & with a wonderful patio. Really good coffee, paninis, {ha, that's a plural plural} Long's doughnuts, oatmeal, homemade flavored cream cheese on bagels, and cinnamon toast. I've been here enough to get the feel of the place. The only thing I'm missing is the interaction. Orders are placed, coffee is drunk, people leave. I'm not saying anyone's unfriendly; I'm just used to coffee houses with customers intermingling amongst themselves. (Tin Comet, Calvin Fletcher's, Hubbard & Craven's) But the food & the coffee here are fabulous!
(4)Azra M.
Favorite coffee shop in the city! Their iced chai is SO good. Their sandwiches are so filling and delicious too! They have different soups all the time so there's always something new to check out which I can totally appreciate. Best part is the awesome staff. If you want to go to a place where you feel welcome, I recommend the Foundry
(5)Ellie I.
This is a very needed coffee shop for the Old Northside. I met a friend here and had a Chai Tea latte that was delicious... It wasn't as hot as I normally like them but that was easily fixed. Sarah was the barista who took my order and she was friendly with a great attitude. I was happily surprised to see the food menu had a great selection. You could eat lunch here and feel full afterwards. Being a native Southerner I was quite excited to see they sell Cheerwine by the bottle! I will most certainly be hanging out here in the hot days to come.
(5)Christopher F.
Good coffee. Like the atmosphere. Great outdoor space. I've been twice and seen good crowds. Serve yourself coffee makes it a great value.
(5)Ashley M.
I was really excited to have a new coffee shop join the neighborhood when the Foundry opened. I frequently work from coffee shops or take a mid-day break to walk for a fresh cup of coffee. I have been disappointed a handful of times with the Foundry, though I haven't ruled it out entirely. It is a very small space so the noise levels can reach intolerable fast, taking it off the list of quiet coffee shops to spend the afternoon working from. They do have a large outdoor dining area but it is in direct sun until the sun starts to set. I have ordered oatmeal on 2 occasions only to be brought yogurt when my order was ready because they ran out of oats. The two may compare on balanced/healthy breakfasts but I don't think they are comparable enough to just swap out without asking. That being said, those that I have dined with have always been happy with their selection, they just don't seem to offer much for the gluten intolerant.

I'm all about PDA for Foundry Provisions, as it's Pretty Damn Adorable. This sweet locale has all the makings of a solid stop for a quick bite or a long haul of work with your laptop. Let's talk details... 1) Ambiance: Free, stable WiFi sets you up for success. A handful of booths and a smattering of tables bring it all home. It's a fairly quiet place with stable background noise and really good music on overhead - an ideal place to work or chat. 2) Food: My grilled cheese and roasted red pepper soup were quite delicious. The soup was full of bright flavor and the grilled cheese (with my addition of tomato and avocado) was no slouch either. And I can't forget to mention my practically perfect green iced tea with just a touch of sweetness. 3) Staff: The staff are super helpful and friendly - from knowing just how much a "touch" of sugar I wanted in my green tea to recommending a great sammie combo, I was pleased as punch. Yeah, Foundry Provisions, you're firing on all cylinders. A+, my friends.

The Foundry is a solid coffee shop and lunch spot good for just about anything you'd want from a cafe. If you're looking for a place to pop up at a window, sitting or standing, and get some reading or work done, the Foundry is the spot. If you're looking for a place to meet with a colleague or some friends for a cup or a bite, inside or outside, the Foundry is the spot. If you're looking for a place to grab a snack, a soda, or some treats before or after First Friday, the Foundry is the spot. One of the best things about the Foundry is how adeptly it supports other local businesses as a part of its enterprise. I can't think of another business that does this so well. Circle City Sweets, Shapiro's, Amazing Potato Chips, Julian Coffee Roasters, Tea's Me, Long's Donuts, Amelia's Bread -- you'll find it all here. It's a great way to sample some of the smaller, specialty foodstuffs in Indy. This place just gets better and better, and has become quite the cornerstone of the 16th Street corridor. It's a repurposed foundry from the old Herron School of Art, and retains that urban feel while, at the same time, being itself a bastion of urban revitalization. Pick this the next time you're looking for a cup of coffee.
(5)Vanessa A.
This place is cute and may be a nice place to meet up with friends or get a meal, but if you're looking for a boutique coffee experience look elsewhere. We came here expecting a specialty coffee experience, but they just had batch brewed coffee. It was fine, but not just not what we were hoping for. They do offer espresso and pour over, but the staff was not confident in their knowledge of coffee (self-proclaimed) and so I did not order either of those. I did, however, find Tinker Coffee Roasters down the street and they made me a delicious, carefully crafted, complex pour over.

A-OK I was excited when this place opened up last year, as it is close to work and seemed like a great place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. I have been in a few times for lunch, and I'm not so sure I'll be back. Not because of the food, which I think is pretty delicious, but how long it takes to get the food. For example, I popped in here for (what I hoped was) a quick lunch earlier this week. The order was two sandwiches, and iced coffee and a bottle soda. For this it was around $22. A little on the pricey end for two sandwiches and drinks, but the ingredients are quality and the place is local so I was okay with it. We gave our names, sat down outside (nice patio!) and waited. And waited. And waited some more. 30 minutes for two sandwiches. During this time we contemplated cancelling our orders and just leaving to go somewhere quicker, but decided to wait. They had one person making the sandwiches, and because they were paninis they had to press them. I was so ticked by the time I got my sandwich that I barely enjoyed it before running back to work. I'd come back here when I have plenty of time to wait and enjoy. The services was very friendly, just slow. I have to recommend the Harrison- my favorite panini I get each time!
(3)Masha M.
I used to go here at least once a week during the school year. It's a place I'm going to miss because almost every employee knows my name and drink order. The menu is small and simple and they are always willing to work with you. I can honestly say out of the 3 years I have been going, I have never had a bad experience.
(4)Lynsey S.
What a cool spot! The old Northside is an awesome mix of old and modern buildings. The bright exterior makes this place jump out and invites you in. The menu, while small, was delicious. I had the Harrison panini. It was amazing. The ham was thick... Like holiday leftovers, not thin lunch meat, and the mayo tasted homemade. I also had the butternut squash soup. It was so flavorful and thick... Just the way it should be. They seemed to have an extensive coffee and baked goods selection, so I'm excited to head back soon.
(4)Holly H.
I love this sun-filled coffee shop. They are one of only a few coffee shops in the city that offer French pour-over coffee. And that makes them awesome. I also enjoy a bowl of granola and some quality work time in this little shop. The wifi is free and fairly reliable, the people are friendly, and the service is great. I look forward to spending more time here on my remote-work Fridays.
(4)Stacy P.
Foundry Provisions is a nice spot to sit back and take a break and enjoy and relaxing drink on the patio on a nice day, or hunker down and finish that last minute thing on a project that you need to hand over asap to your customer. I love the fact they have an ample number of outlets readily available at the booths and window bar seating area. The free Wifi doesn't hurt either. In terms of food, I can't comment on it as pretty much the only gluten free item on the menu is their fruit with nutella. They do also offer a selection of Nicey treats as well. I love the fact that they do serve Tea Me coffee and tea. While the selection of tea is somewhat limited and not truly expansive, they did happen to have a nice rooibos tea that was soothing.
(3)Mary T.
I can't say enough good things about The Foundry! It is my go to weekend breakfast spot. Amongst the friendly and overly accommodating staff, you'll be greeted by a pleasant but not pretentious decor throughout the building. The coffee is always exceptional and so are the pastries. If you haven't visited, I highly recommend giving them a try. And if you fancy being outdoors in the summertime such as myself feel free to invite your dog as their patio, (which features live music this time of year) is also dog friendly!
(5)Kati F.
Great bagels with home made cream cheese! My favorite is the roasted red pepper. However, I do not recommend going in the morning if you're in a rush. They're a bit slow.
(4)Chris M.
I just moved to the neighborhood, and my first morning in my new place I got hungry and turned to Google Maps to find someplace I could eat breakfast. Happily, I found this place. My first glimpse of it was the unique bike rack out front, constructed out of pipe fittings. It was sturdy and a touch unusual, a good sign. On the inside, I found a cozy little cafe with decent atmosphere and a good sense of humor. Also, there are LOTS of plug-ins; each of the booths has a box with four outlets on it. I've been back once since then. I've had both their savory press and sweet press breakfast sandwiches, a cafe mocha, and a "tai chi latte." The sandwiches are perhaps a little overpriced for what you get, but they're still tasty. The place is also friendly to dogs, with dog biscuits available for a small price.
(4)Tom W.
What a wonderful spot to catch up with friends or catch up with work e-mail. The coffees are delicious and served as a "bottomless cup" (I didn't leave until I had the caffeine shakes...) and the food offerings well prepared, fresh, and tasty. A great little retreat!
(4)Michelle L.
Great, little nook off of 16th & Alabama! Friendly, accommodating staff & incredible sandwiches, coffee & pastries. Love that they support other local businesses such as Trader's Point Creamery, Circle City Sweets & Soups, Teas Me, Smoking Goose as well as switching out local artist's work every first Friday. Great place to have a cup o'joe with a friend or if you have a huge paper to write and need to get out of the house. Love this historic place!
(5)Twinkle V.
I can't say enough good things about this little place. Perfectly poised on the corner of Alabama and 16th, this little coffee-lover's gem is modern, urban and curiously quaint. Love the coffee. As a former coffee barista, I enjoy waiting for my coffee, watching it being prepared. Often, I've been lucky enough to witness a barista training session, which is pretty cool. Atmosphere is really cool. I love the urban + old diner, the use of tin sheeting and the cooler stocked full of vintage and specialty sodas get's a 3 thumbs up from me (Three because I had to borrow one because it's so awesome.) Price is not cheap, but average for this kind of establishment, and on the mid-range for most coffee shops. Definitely not more pricey than Starbucks. Food- They have it! The countertop is adorned with various fresh pastries and their pressed sandwiches are fabulous. I'ma Southern girl, so when I see a Pressed Mortadella and Egg sandwich my southern appetite starts clanging in my mind! "FRIED BALONEY!" Yes, please, I'll have some more. But, hey, don't listen to me. Just go there! Sit on the patio, ride your bike up or just grab a fresh, local popsicle from Nicey treat~ which they have there, btw.
(5)Joanna B.
Words cannot explain how happy I am to have this fun little coffee shop right down the street from me. It's becoming my Saturday morning tradition to walk or bike down and grab a chai tea and a breakfast sandwich. The sandwiches are always delicious and I am always tempted by the wonderful looking local sweets, maybe one day I will give in!
(4)Olivia M.
New favorite coffee shop in Indy. I fell in love with a bowl of oatmeal this week. It feels like nothing bad can happen on a day that starts with a bowl of Foundry oatmeal. The drinks are creamy and full of flavor. Flowers on every table, a chalkboard wall by the patio, staff who seem to be personal friends with at least every other customer - so many ways for this place to make your heart (and your belly) happy.
(5)Jon C.
Back in my day, there was a coffee house that sat on the corner of Mass and College called The Abbey. It was a local hangout for anyone and everyone. All were welcome, and I would drive from college in Terre Haute just to be there. The day The Abbey closed was the day the music died for me (ala Don McLean's "American Pie") and I wondered if I would ever find such a magical and ponderous place again. I think Foundry Provisions has come as close to The Abbey as I can find, with some upgrades. First, I love that there is a nice outdoor patio with umbrellas to provide shade on a sunny day. Rainy? No problem! Inside has a number of tables and booths, most of them with electrical outlets so you can recharge your body and devices at the same time. We aren't just talking about one outlet for people to fight over either... most booths have four outlets, so you can bring your friends and you can all plug in and Skype with one another while sitting at the same booth. Another reviewer has commented that the paninis are slightly greasy. I would agree.. but it's not enough to deter me from eating one. Just grab a few extra napkins. The best part? Most (if not all) of the ingredients are local. I forgot about the Longs Donuts until seeing another review just now, and I'm contemplating just walking down there and finishing this review while eating one. This is a great addition to the Old Northside. Welcome to the neighborhood Foundry Provisions. I think we're going to be seeing a lot of one another.
(4)Kevin H.
This is my go to spot to get work done. I enjoy the interior almost as much as the open patio. It's typically quiet in off hours but can be loud in peek hours. Would be a 5 star if it weren't for a few things. They need to so something about the smokiness. The ventilation is terrible and I always feel like I'm surrounded in a smog. Second problem is limited seating with outlets. Currently I'm sitting in one of the middle tables waiting for a seat with an outlet to open up. I've been waiting for over 15 minutes now. Possibly adding outlets outside or somehow in the center tables would be efficient. In general I enjoy this spot minus smelling like a burnt panini when I leave, from poor ventilation.
(4)Jolanda B.
It is a really cute place. The staff is nice. I got a frozen treat that was recommended by a regular customer. I loved the neighbor feel and how nice a welcoming they were.
(4)Brittany S.
Some of Indy's best businesses have found a new home in Foundry Provisions and Brittany S can't stop smiling about it. Long's Donuts? Circle City Sweets? Smoking Goose? Traders Point Creamery? Teas Me Cafe? Stop it, you're too cute! (and smart) As I sit here on the patio (which, I must note, is quite spacious with 8 four-seat tables) with a Circle City Sweets croissant and budget-friendly $3 skinny chai, I can't help but I've found a new meeting spot to add to the roster - requires only a ten minute easy bike ride from Mass Ave to boot! Aside from the great sandwich list, soup of the day, sweets and drinks, my favorite thing about Foundry is the staff's attention to names. I'm a sucker for businesses who go out of their way to use customer's names and make them feel at home. "Thank you, Brittany." "Here's your receipt, Brittany" "It'll be just a minute, Brittany." (okay, so they didn't say it with every sentence) The space is very raw both on the exterior and interior: think grey concrete, black fixtures and abstract art. Very simple, nothing to write home about. I was told the $7.50 sandwiches are delicious - thus far, I've stuck to the sweets, so it looks like I'll be having a savory lunch meeting on the near horizon. This is a great addition to the Old Northside/Talbott Street area neighborhood (located directly across the street from Greg's). Note that parking can be challenging, but their is ample bike parking space available in the front.
(5)Fernando D.
Superb. I'm hard pressed to find a criticism. FYI the food is mostly soups, sandwiches, and snacks. Everything is made fresh and with great care (including the coffee). They also serve breakfast.
(5)Christian D.
Their sandwiches are uniquely-designed and very tasty. I greatly enjoy the one with the spicy kimchi (the Montgomery, I think?). Their lattes are well-made and delightfully flavorful. I would recommend getting some hot tea in the cold months, too. They carry Earl Grey from Tea's Me. They happen to serve Circle City Soups as well, which can make for a great lunch on a cold day.
(4)Maureen M.
Always a good stop! Good eats. They offer Gluten Free bread for the sandwiches. The selection of other goodies seems to be on point. You might find it quite busy with student from Herron but I personally do not mind. Patio when nice out is great. You can get creative on the chalk board wall!
(5)Peter P.
Cute new coffee shop in a neighborhood that desperately wanted/needed one. I was worried that penning a review less than 3 hours after the first customer walked through the door would be a little unfair, but I shouldn't have worried. Located at the northwest corner of Alabama and 16th street, Foundry Provisions is poised for success. This is a high-traffic intersection so they are sure to do big weekday commuter business. There is also ample parking in the free lot across the start to ease the worries of any suburbanite. The coffee was brewed to my liking -bold but not too bitter. Food options are more numerous than what you would expect to find at you big corporate chain coffee shop. The have the usual sweets (from one of my favorite City Market vendors, Circle City Sweets), and bagels, but they also have a selection of sandwiches that change daily. The decor is typical of what you see nowadays - exposed concrete floor, corrugated steel panel, European-design furniture, a couple leather chairs in a reading nook. Ambient music is kept at a reasonable level for conversation. Although the space is not big, there is seating inside for about 30. The name Foundry Provisions comes from the original name of the building ( The Foundry), before it fell into disrepair after it was vacated by the art school many years ago. I'm really excited to come here with my dogs when the weather warms up and sit in the big outdoor seating area (slate rule floor!). It faces 16th street but is protected/blocked by some more of those ubiquitous corrugated steel panel. I suspect that there is additional seating outside for another 20-30. but this is no drive thru coffee shop. It truly is a neighborhood shop. It seemed like the workers here knew everyone who walked through the door this day (and there were a lot!). There is also a big custom bicycle rack made from galvanized pipe for those who wish to save gas. Come for breakfast or lunch as they're only open until 2:30 pm (2:00 on Sundays). I wonder if at some point the owner will decide to have late night hours to sober up the the huge crowd that lets out on weekends across the street from Greg's Our Place. Considering that this place is less than half a mile from my side, I foresee spending many a morning here pouring over the funny pages.
(4)Tracy A.
Nice open, light place. Good place to sit and linger with a book or computer if you can find a spot. The coffee and food are good but pricey. I went at about 9am on a week day and there were a lot of school kids (I think Herron) hanging out, so it was busy with only one person working on food orders, so it was a little slow. It's a toss-up for parking. No parking signs posted in the lot behind, as it belongs to a building there. There's street parking if you can get it. I believe there's a lot across the street. I took off two stars due to high pricing and lack of parking.
(3)Amanda W.
This is my go-to coffee shop in my neighborhood. The coffee is usually really good. The sandwiches are amazing. Nice atmosphere, good service.

My boyfriend and I went here while on vaca. This was the perfect place for breakfast, delish coffee and a place to log in and relax for awhile. I love the look of the place. Keep up the good works guys.

The Foundry should change it's name to "The Foothold" (in the neighborhood). Excellent place...though I rode my bike there off the Monon Trail and the Kroger 2 blocks away had what looked to be an altercation involving several hoodlum types that was being quickly stamped out by police (so that is good...in fact...going back and changing 4 to 5 stars now...it is not their fault). But it is definitely at the very outer reach of the neighborhood's goldilocks zone. Unprententious blend....not the coffee...the patrons. All as friendly as the staff. Don't be in a hurry. Do not have to be. Plenty of room and power outlets for the free wifi (the cornerstone of every GREAT coffeehouse). Knowing that, they could pop microwave dinners and wring out rags into coffee makers and still get a 3 star rating. BUT that is not the case here, all the coffee your heart can handle and great snacking eats that let you set up camp. Do everything from write your manifesto to people watch....it is all good. Cheers to the Foundry Provisions.
(5)Molly M.
A great neighborhood coffee shop that's perfect whether you're looking for a drink on the go or a place to spend the afternoon hunkered over your laptop. Their Chai Tea Latte is the best I've ever had!
(5)Alexis S.
Bagels and house-made cream cheese was good. Enjoyed a mocha with it. Being a coffee snob that I am, I'd drink it again.. But maybe add another shot. On the weak side. Staff was all teenaged girls... So as to be expected...not always professional. Still had a great time and enjoyed it.

I want to like this place, I really do! I've been a few times and love the atmosphere. Perhaps I need to come for the coffee, but the food is just "meh" to me. I guess I'm always surprised by how long it actually takes. Every time I've been here, I've been the only one in line, but for some reason, my wait for food has consistently been over 20 minutes (last time, it was nearly thirty. I get the whole "take it slow" and "make it right" mindsets... but throwing a panini on shouldn't take so long! The prices for food are a bit steep too, considering what you get. It's a good place to grab a cup of coffee and get some work done, but unless you've got a lot of time to spare and a small appetite, I'd leave it at the coffee.

Loved reading Jon C's review. When I was in high school my friends spoke about this mythical place called "The Abbey" the promised coffeeshop. I only got to experience once before they closed down... and Foundry Provisions makes me feel that tingling sensation that hearing about The Abbey did. I love the amount of awesome stuff they offer from local businesses around town. Seriously when I want a Nicey treat and a Circly City baked good and a cup of tea from Teas Me I can go to this one place and get them all. Love it! Great place to get work done, not such a great place for a full blown conversation since its generally been very quiet every time I've been. And the outdoor patio is fantastic. Food/Drinks: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Location: 5/5

I made it a mission, after moving to Indy for grad school, to sample as many local coffee shops/cafes as possible. I have to say that Foundry Provisions is by far my favorite. The location is convenient. The prices are more than fair. The food is delicious (especially this Curry Carrot soup I am enjoying right now). The atmosphere is perfecting for paper writing. It's cute, cozy, calm. I love the fact that they have fresh flowers/plants on the tables and that the space is so well lit with natural lighting. The service is friendly. There are ample amounts of outlets and seating to study with a group or catch up with friends. It is hard for me to think of anything I would change about Foundry Provisions.
(5)Laura G.
Love Foundry! It's a great place to go during the week for breakfast or lunch or on the weekend to catch up with friends. Great little neighborhood spot. They have local doughnuts and goodies for those with a sweet tooth- including Nicey treats, which are fantastic. I highly recommend the Chai Latte with whipped cream and cinnamon on top.
(5)Courtney B.
YUMMMM! I met Brittany S. here for a loving morning Yelp meeting over coffee and it was the first I had heard of this place. I am a sucker for coffee shops and finding unique places. This place had delicious coffee and a comforting atmosphere. The next time I need to spend an afternoon at a coffee shop working...you will find me here!
(4)Carly W.
Perfect spot for grabbing lunch, meeting up with co-workers, or settling in and getting some work done. Cozy environment with friendly staff and amazing food. I highly recommend the Harrison lunch press with a cup of soup (they're all delicious, you can't go wrong!), and a cup of unlimited tea. Great spot in an up-and-coming neighborhood.
(5)Meredith S.
Wowza! Is this too good to be true? I met another Yelper here for a dinner meeting and decided to get one of their sandwiches cuz I was pretty hungry. I settled on the Kurt V which was... uh-maze-ing! It was delish bread, portobello mushroom, cheese, red peppers, more cheese. Maybe some basil? The portobello is really sticking out in my mind. And the delicious cheese. It was grilled/pressed to perfection. Just the right temperature, just the right amount of grease. Yummmy! I can't wait to go back and try something sweet and a drink. And also the Aubern sandwich cuz that looked very good too! If you're feeling a hot pressed sandwich, then look no further than here. You won't regret it.
(5)Laura M.
The coffee here is really good. Stopping by on a Sunday morning around 10, we were able to get a spot, two croissants, and two coffees for 10 bucks. It was still a little cold for the deck but I'm sure that will change. The inside is a little industrial/noisy for my taste - all the decor is concrete, wood, and metal, which doesn't do much to dampen the sound of the machines. I kind of prefer a cozier environment. However, The Foundry is walking distance from downtown, reasonably priced, and has some quality food & beverages so I will probably be back.
(4)Nathasja T.
Cool little local neighborhood coffee joint after my own heart. I love places like these! The exterior is Orange with a capital O, the interior has an almost 'cold', industrial contemporary swag. Coffee house wise I prefer the cozy kind, but design wise I do dig it. The menu is small and well balanced. A handful of coffee options, tea and hot chocolate can be found on the drink side. Snack wise they sell local goods such as scones, muffins, croissants and even chips, and a good-looking variety of breakfast and lunch paninis offer something a little more substantial in case of hunger. We order our things to go and are a fan of the chocolate croissants, hot chocolate and coffee. If you are going to stay a while they offer chemex coffee which is pretty cool. Dogs are welcome on the patio so if you're going for a walk with your four legged pal this summer, this is the place to be for a quick break. All items sold such as the baked goods and chips are from other local businesses in the area which is a pretty cool idea. I dug the chips a lot, but the scones are a major fail. They were very eggy and dry. I realize dry comes with the territory but eggy is just gross. All in all a great place to hang out at or to pick up a little something on the go.
(4)Brittany L.
She had her bare hand on the part of the cup where I put my mouth. EW. Big giant EW. When an employee hands a cup to a customer, their hand should be around the CUP part, not around the rim. If you're worried the hand-off is going to be sloppy, place the drink on the counter and let the customer pick it up. Don't put yer mitts where I'm gonna put my mouth! Buuuut my chai tea was really tasty. Waaaaay better than the one from a certain coffeehouse with VERY limited hours which is just a bit north of this one. Just the right temperature, nice and spicy, perfectly sweetened, not syrupy. You could taste the tea! There are TONS of electrical outlets above the booths for you to plug in and work. There's also table seating and seating at a little bar that looks out over the street. There's a small concrete patio. Maybe they'll get some little potted trees and plants when the warm weather gets here. Foundry sells pastries, glass bottled sodas, and sandwiches too. Their teas come from Tea's Me, so it's high quality stuff. I don't really care about the coffee because I rarely drink it.

First things first: The acoustics in this place are terrible. It get really LOUD inside. The first time we went, I was glad I wasn't hungover because I was getting a headache from all of the chatter! From that visit on, we've sat outside. The coffee is good -- I usually get a latte with sugar free vanilla -- although service can be slow. On the last Sunday morning that we were there, there was 1 person taking orders, 1 person cooking breakfasts and 1 person, who seemed new, making all of the coffee. It isn't an exaggeration to say that I waited 10 minutes for my drink. We've only been on Sunday mornings, about 9:30 a.m., so I can't speak to how it is on other days. My grievances aside, the coffee is really good and I love having a neighborhood coffee house that isn't a chain. I haven't had any of their food but it sounds/looks good. Prices are comparable to what you would pay at Starbucks. They just started a loyalty program, which is nice. There is a bike rack out front and street parking during certain hours; I've also seen people park across the street in the parking lot for Greg's, although I'm not sure how that works out when both businesses are open.
(4)Tiffany C.
Almond croissant. Oh my. Dee-lec-table. I am highly impressed and highly stuffed. They have a number of other fluffy looking pastries, though not a large selection, sadly enough. I think their paninis and coffee are probably the main draws for people here. VERY hipster and clearly new in the area, Foundry Provisions is carving out a nice little clientele. Lots of people here on their Macs or sitting around on the high tables with artsy drawing books open. They also have a lot of posters and ad cards for events and neighborhood gatherings so people can stay connected with the community. Kind of disappointing that there aren't a lot of businesses around in the area, but I suppose that's why this place was rather packed for a random Monday early evening. Wish the prices were a bit lower, but I suppose they have to keep up their sophisticated style somehow!
(4)Sal W.
Cute little coffee shop just north downtown. Great coffee, liked the Vonnegut sandwich. Not a lot of room if you're meeting someone here - high school kids come after school and take one table per person. But other than that, great place.
(4)Shoshana K.
I go here on Sundays when no other places for coffee are open. I'm going to preface this review by saying I think the suckage here is because of the Sunday crew, not necessarily the coffee they offer or the establishment. The first couple times I came here I ordered a specialty drink - I think a cafe au lait; yeah "i think..." - thats how memorable it was. It was one of the worst ones I've had in Indy (the best one(s) being at Taste and sometimes Calvin Fletcher if they're not waiting on a line of people and take the time to make it right...) but back to the subject at hand.... Another unforgettable visit here was when we showed up and they were out of drip/regular coffee. There are three carafes of drip coffee at the counter - two are regular brews and one decaf. When we ordered our cup a joes, I went to the house blend thermos and it was dry. The other regular coffee thermos was not even full - there were just doing the one regular and one decaf. The girl behind the counter said "oh sorry, we can make you some more of that one if you want - I didn't think we would need any more today...I can brew some more of that kind if you want" YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! WTF ARE YOU IN BUSINESS FOR? YOU ARE A COFFEE. SHOP. HELLO EARTH TO FOUNDRY. Needless to say (why do people say that? as if i'm not going to say the rest of whats "needless" in a yelp review lol!), ever since that comment and lackluster experience at Foundry, I cannot take this place seriously. There are better coffee places in Indy than this for sure.....
(2)Becca P.
Absolutely love the Foundry Provisions! They're grilled sandwiches are what I live off of. I go to school yards away at herron high school so I'm here a lot. I usually get the Kurt V or the Auburn, some sort of AMAZING soup, and a green tea. It's all delicious I often leave and tell whoever I'm in the car with "that was the best lunch I have ever had" I'm a sucker for local places and this definitely lived up to my expectations! I hop to try one of their Popsicles soon! I think they're service is a lot better than what people are saying on their reviews. My sandwich and soup are always the perfect temperature and made in a timely fashion. Really friendly staff and I love the fact they have a rewards program! Thanks foundry! You're awesome

I heard that the cool crowd has been coming to this place since it opened. I always like to appear as cool as possible, so I went to Foundry Provisions today and picked up a couple of sandwiches to go. You know, just to check the place out a little bit. It has a simple, industrial, urban feel to it both inside and outside. The patio here would definitely be a nice place for lunch when the weather is nice. I might sit outside here sometime soon and sign autographs. I am not sure why anyone would want my autograph, but if someone asked me for one, I'd sign for them. The counter service was very quick. I ordered two sandwiches, the Harrison and the Tarkington. I see they've used local names for their sandwiches. Clever. The sandwiches are pressed and I've got to tell you, I could do without the pressing. It makes the sandwiches a bit on the greasy side. I'd rather forgo the pressing and just enjoy the sandwich, hopefully they'll accommodate an order like that. It would be nice to see them offer a couple of different bread selections as well. The sandwiches are made from high quality and very fresh ingredients....just seemed like a shame to press them and add the unwanted greasiness. Have I mentioned that I didn't like that the sandwiches were pressed? If you live near Foundry Provisions and haven't checked it out yet, you should. If you live in the downtown area, it's worth a bike ride or short drive to check it out as well.

Love this little corner eatery. I am an iced coffee fan and theirs tastes really nice and smooth. Not harsh like Starbucks. I went one day when they had a grilled cheese with bacon.. YUM! Great yogurt and granola too in the a.m. Definitely need to go. And now that the weather is improving, they have a great patio too! One down side, and it's very small, but parking isn't the easiest. Once they get their oven in, I hear breakfast pressed sandwiches are en-route! YAY! Of note.. They don't take Amex. What are you waiting for?! Get going!! This place is a neighborhood jewel!
(5)Corey L.
Nice quietly spot near downtown. Great for meetings as they have WiFi & electrical outlets for your laptop. The Tarkington (sandwich) is delicious and they have a great selections of coffee & drinks, not just boring coke or Pepsi. Sitting is limited b/c ppl camp out & sleep in the booths, also a tad pricey but a great local coffeehouse/sandwich joint. Parking on Alabama is free. I highly recommend!
(4)Sarah L.
I come here all the time because it's close to my work. Their bagels with cream cheese are so good - just add a cup of good coffee and the morning is made! :)
(5)Jessica G.
Cool space, cool location, great coffee, friendly staff - it's one of my Saturday morning favorites. It's a nice place to sit outside in the summer, but it's nice and cozy inside as well. I'll normally grab a savory breakfast press and a cup of coffee, but their specialty drinks are great and they've got some other good options on the menu.

Finally! A coffee shop in Indy with decent hours and awesome coffee! I've been living in this city for a while now and have been a coffee lover even longer. The ONE thing that always left me wanting was the fact that there were NO good coffee shops with decent hours and good joe. My hopes were high after hearing everyone rave about Foundry Provisions. I finally had the opportunity to see for myself a few weeks ago. and am happy to report that I've FINALLY found what I've been searching for! We went on our last bike ride of the season even though it was a little chilly. The warm and sunlit building was instantly welcoming and the staff followed suit. I was really excited to try their pumpkin spice latte in hopes that it would give me the taste of fall without sending me into a sugar coma like the Starbucks version. Again, more success. The delicious drink was made in an oversized coffee mug, perfect for keeping both hands warm while sitting on their patio. While I haven't tried the food yet, the entire menu looks amazing and I anxiously await my opportunity to dig in. Review update to follow shortly! Last thing: what would make it a 5-star review? Some adventurous sugar-free syrup options. Maybe almond, if they're taking suggestions.

This place offers some tasty sandwiches during lunch. The meats are locally sourced and have the perfect amount of veggies and sauces. In warmer months, enjoy the outdoor seating with your 4-legged family member.
(5)Eki Y.
Not a destination coffee shop, you're going here because you're already in the area. That being said, this place was everything I needed it to be. Ample seating inside and out, free wi-fi, straight forward coffee drinks, bagels, pressed sandwiches with meat / cheese / veggie components and kind servers. If I somehow find myself in the area again with time to kill, I'll stop here for sure.
(4)L G.
I found this on yelp and since it is so close to Methodist Hospital I decided to try it on a lunch break. This was a great find!! I had the Auburn sandwich (grilled mozerella tomato and basil pesto) and coffee. Both were amazing! I loved the music they played too which wasnt too loud.
(5)Susan M.
Great, friendly service; fantastic food and drinks. Warm, family-style atmosphere. Came to see the band Smile Majestic perform and will definitely return.
(5)DeAnna P.
I want so badly to like this place. I plan to go back and hope for a better experience. On the plus side -- ambiance. Cute shaded porch that is dog friendly (drinking trough!) and bike friendly (a bike rack within view of the porch). The quality of the the food was also good. I only got an iced tea and bagel, but both were fresh and good. I loved the mint leaves in the tea. So why was I bummed? The food took FOREVER. There were three young ladies behind the counter and we were the only ones waiting on food, but it took what felt like a very long time to make a simple breakfast sandwich and bagel (my bagel was cold by the time I received it). The girls were very sweet and appeared to be working diligently when I went inside for a refill. I am not sure what took so long. I am hoping this was an anomaly.
(3)Raina R.
I've been admiring this red-orange colored building for months. I finally had the opportunity to experience it for myself. Although the building appears small within the context of its neighborhood, I was pleasantly surprised to walk inside and find ample seating. I met for a business lunch and Foundry Provisions was absolutely perfect for the occasion. The ambiance was great, the lunch even better. I enjoyed the lunch special - Tomato Basil soup with a Grilled Cheese & Tomato. This self proclaimed tomato aficionado was not disappointed with my meal! I look forward to many more lunches at Foundry Provisions.
(5)Maggie T.
The Montgomery for lunch is the best. One of my favorite sandwiches in Indy. Everything is made to order. Live music on Friday nights.
(4)Vivian D.
I really like the place: it has terrific south facing windows, large tables, good booths and a relatively spacious patio. There is a mix of business folks ranging from the creative startup folks to the standard wheelers and dealers, moms, hs kids, and other folks. There is a little of the hipster vibe behind the counter but it is tolerable. So why the points deduction? The coffee is so-so, sometimes it is a bit bitter. The major deduction, however, is for selling the worst almond croissant in the history of humankind. Nothing light and flaky about this little brick of gluttony and cholesterol, and nothing much tasty either. It was an oily mess, strangely cold in places even after being heated on the panini press. The place is consistently busy so they may not address these issues. They should though. The next new thing is always right around the corner and loyalty is built over time and not some location purchased birthright. I am eager to see them succeed and will be back but I would be happier if the coffee was a little less bitter and if they addressed the croissant debacle!
(4)Darshy N.
Foundry Provisions is a compilation of some of the best of Indy - Long's Donuts? Circle City Sweets? Smoking Goose? Traders Point Creamery? Teas Me Cafe? Oh, you betcha! But what really brings be back here is their blue berry oatmeal and I'm not an oatmeal kinda girl. Foggy Indy mornings are created with this oatmeal in mind. The only thing that is super disappointing about Foundry Provisions is their coffee/beverages. It's lackluster to be gentle. The space is a bit raw, vintage, open and kinda high energy. I'm not really sure if I really understood the vibe. I really like the staff, they are Indy friendly, extremely polite, caring in such a way as if they are your long lost friend that's rooting for you to finish that tedious presentation. There is a bit of a lunch rush here, but they do good with the time for prep. Also, the people who seem to frequent Foundry Provisions - vah! vah! Voom! Some of the best Indy eye candy, I've seen!
(4)Crystal G.
UPDATE: The two challenges I mentioned below have all but been resolved. Now an error is rare rather than the norm. While I frequent this establishment and enjoy the drinks and snacks, two (2) key fundamentals are always missing from the experience: (1) order accuracy and (2) speed. The staff frequently scurries about trying to help customers, but with no one owning any part of the service experience, their efforts fall flat. While the team takes you orders and writes them down, they frequently forget them by the time they make them.
(4)Mallory T.
Quaint, colorful and cozy describe this adorable coffee shop just off 16th street! My mother and I were looking for a midday treat to tie us over until dinner and we found the perfect spot! Neither of us knew what to expect when we first entered the the small orange building, however we were pleasantly surprised. Although business later picked up, there was no line when we walked in and that was nice because we didn't plan on spending too much time there. The menu was very simple and easy to read. I ordered a vanilla latte and my mom got a caramel latte. We then also had a bagel with half roasted red pepper and half honey cinnamon both which were phenomenal! We found that they get their baked goods from Shapiro's Deli (which is another favorite spot). The bagel was soft and the cream cheese was very flavorful! My latte was just the way I like it and my mom said hers was the best she ever had. As business picked up we noticed a variety of eclectic people chatting and enjoying their drinks. Also a very interesting variety of music that I found refreshing. Overall we had a wonderful experience and plan to return very soon!

Upon entering The Foundry, many questions come to mind. Namely, what bank would allow this organization to be granted a small business loan? Why does a to-go coffee cost $3.00 when it costs about $1.80 at Henry's, Hoaglin, or even Starbucks? Why does the coffee taste like it was microwaved back to serving temperature after bring discarded by its original owner? Why is everything made out of plywood? Why is there a coffee shop in an area surrounded by government housing? Why does the staff conspicuously hint at the tip jar so frequently, given the exorbitant prices and low quality of their coffee? Why did my coffee cup fall apart in my hand within 10 minutes of purchase? Why did the same thing happen to my friend's coffee cup? And lastly, why were there any other customers?
(2)Oliver G.
My favorite coffee place in Indy. Coffee is great, people are friendly, and the food is excellent. In particular, their cinnamon honey cream cheese is amazing - I love it on a blueberry bagel. The sandwiches are great too. It has a pretty nice interior. A changing selection of artwork hangs on the wall. The tall seats up by the bar that runs along the window are a little wobbly, but all of the other seats are pretty comfortable. When I'm here on the weekends, I've always been able to find a place to sit. I've seen it really packed during the week around lunchtime. My only gripe, and a minor one at that, are the hours. On Sunday they close a little early for me...at 3pm. They close at 8p on most other nights. I'm more of a night person, so longer hours would be preferable for me, but not a biggie.
(5)Allie S.
I still love this place, I just don't love the prices. Today I thought I'd try a breakfast press and a small regular coffee. It was $10!! That's insane. The breakfast press was made with hard boiled eggs, too. I thought that was strange, and it didn't taste very good. It was worth like $3, definitely not $10. Everything else about it I still love though.
(4)Evan P.
Such a great place to go for a quick bite to eat or a nice cup of coffee. Fantastic for hanging out with friends and catching up with old ones. The music is nice and the atmosphere makes you feel very welcome. The food takes just a little longer than what you'd think to come out, but not too long. All together, this place is one that you have to visit if you're in the area!
(4)Laura B.
YESSSSSS! I can't believe I haven't been here before today. This coffee shop seemingly materialized out of nowhere several months ago and has been on my radar ever since. I was looking for a great place to take my mom for a quick bite and decided we'd go here so we could sit outside and take in the beautiful day. This was the perfect solution to our hunger and lack of caffeination. The staff was very friendly and helped guide my mother through her coffee selection, explaining the different varieties with great care. We took our coffee outside and enjoyed their ample outdoor seating area. There was no shade but several tables have umbrellas that can be raised to remedy that. Our sandwiches were delivered to us after about 10 minutes. They utilize a lot of area businesses for their bread, baked goods, bacon, etc. I ordered the Kurt V and it was a perfect mess of mushrooms, roasted red peppers, spinach, and cheese. Oh, did I mention how awesome the staff is? Everyone had a smile on their face, not in a Stepford Wives kinda way, but in a "I like my job and want to help you!" kinda way. I must also note that my husband went to a rock and roll show there last night, so they may be stepping up to the plate to fill the aching void of all-ages venues in town, which would be extra awesome. I think this is the start of a beautiful, caffeinated relationship.
(5)David H.
I had an utmost savory sandwich (the Harrison press). The coffee is delicious. My only problem with this place is that the bottomless mugs are placed on a shelf that's not very clean and you have to wipe off the rim of your mug before using it, not that this will stop me from going back!
(4)Emily U.
I will attempt to restrain my general excitement about a new cafe in my 'hood and overcome any bias I might have after getting free coffee both times I have been here in order to bring you an unbiased review. (But: squeeeee!!!) I've been running past this place for a couple of months, anxiously awaiting its opening. On Easter Sunday I got my first chance to enjoy an afternoon here, over coffee and a bowl of Trader's Point yogurt with Circle City Sweets' granola. I love the atmosphere at Foundry, with its wide windows onto Alabama and 16th, just on the border between the Old Northside and Herron Morton. The workers are friendly, the coffee is hot -- what more could you ask for? This area has been wanting for a nice hang-out coffee spot since the demise of the Corner Cafe years ago. Thank you, Foundry, for answering my prayers. I feel kind of bad taking you up on the free coffee first for being a neighborhood resident and then a Facebook fan, but not too bad because I will spend many of my future coffee dollars on your goods and services.

I'm not one of those Starbucks haters looking for a local option. In fact, I really like Starbucks and find it to be one of the only reliably good cups of coffee around. Sure, I like to venture out and try local coffee houses, but I find them to usually be a gamble with a success rate of under 50%. Either they just don't prepare it very well or they just don't really use good coffee... or they're always closed when I need a cup (you know who you are). Foundry, however, is a gamble that paid off. I'm not drinking those fancy calorie bomb coffees with whole milk or whipped cream. Hell, I don't even want sugar or cream... I want nothing but pure, black as night coffee... I'm not talking about the burnt Maxwell House kind that old folks said 'would put hair on your chest', but rather full-bodied, earthy, chocolaty deliciousness. Foundry typically has two types of high test and another decaf option for the heart patients. While I still find three dollars for a large to-go cup a bit steep compared to Starbucks, they actually lowered the price from the first time I visited. My gf had a chai latte on our last visit and it was one of the better ones I've tasted. I've not had a chance to try their food, but it all sounds good. In warm weather, the patio certainly looks inviting even despite the abundance of growling Boston Terriers and border collies. I'd totally hang out here during the week, but you know, gotta work. What could they do better? Make sure they don't run out of coffee. When you walk in, there are three 'help yourself' thermal carafes on the counter. In each of my past two visits, the carafe ran dry mid-pump and there was no back-up waiting. What else? Turn the screws on those barstools. Those trendy Ikea barstools look cool, but get out your Allen wrenches and tighten them up. They're not made for commercial use and one of these days someone's going to have one too many cupcakes and bend one into a nifty sculpture.
(4)Benjamin H.
I've stopped in a few times for coffee and a breakfast sandwich.. Pretty good! I rarely go out of my way for coffee shops, but when I'm in the area I'll definitely stop by..
(4)Molly T.
The building is orange, the tea is hot, the baked goods are out of this world. I stopped in early one Friday for a quick breakfast and was not disappointed. They source from local businesses such as Teas Me, Traders Point and Circle City Sweets. I ran into a few work friends there and was pleased to see a variety of folks hanging around. Though tiny, it feels like the place could hold 30 to 40 people easily at one time. Only thing that took it down a notch was the music... which could just be my taste, but I didn't need Rhianna that early in the morning. Can't wait to go back again soon!
(4)Andrew D.
I'm not really a super duper coffee house person, but as far as coffee houses go, take me to this one. The chai latte is pretty tasty and the staff is really friendly. I haven't had any of the sandwiches yet but they all look really good. They carry all sorts of local goods from all over the city, including Long's Donuts and Nicey Treat. There is really something for everyone.
(4)Jennifer S.
I like the atmosphere, but the food is too expensive for what you get. $8.00 for boiled egg and cheese on toast? Not worth the price
(3)Sunah K.
So glad that this part of downtown is getting little businesses like this. What a cute little coffee shop! Parking can be a little bit of a pain, but that's downtown for ya! (although there is parking directly in front on 16th during most normal business hours). Good thing it's close enuf to walk to for me, if I wanna go on a decent walk. Although 16th is usually a busy road, the patio doesn't feel like it's up against the cars. Those umbrellas are a must since it can get scorchingly hot under the sun there. LOVE their sandwiches (especially the Morton!), open late, and local offerings.I can't leave this place without a Circle City Sweets croissant. Sometimes coffee and food can take a while, so hopefully people aren't swinging by for a quick pick up but rather settling in for a leisurely stop. Can't wait to stop by for breakfast sometime

Great tunes and great vibe. I'll be back when I'm in Indy and need a spot to work or read over a cup of coffee. Coffee itself isn't stellar but everything else about the place is awesome.

The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars are the prices... $10 is a bit steep for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. That being said, said breakfast sandwich is super yummy (I've had both the bacon & egg with sriracha and the banana & Nutella) and the house coffee is bottomless while dining in. They also serve Long's donuts, saving a drive for us on Sundays. Oh, and they're walking distance to those of us in Herron Morton. The patio is a great place to have a cold drink and relax when the weather is warm, and the new, giant chalk wall outside is a nice touch for the kiddos. The owner used to work at Goose the Market, so that translates into awesome local ingredients and partnerships with area vendors. A great addition to the area!

I was out doing domestic things (buying flowers and garden supplies) with my boyfriend and his little sister and we decided to swing by on our way home for a quick lunch. It was around 1pm when we stopped in. There were a few people working on their computers and a couple of families sitting at the (adorable) tables enjoying some lunch and coffee. We placed our orders at the walk up counter (pretty standard for a coffee shop), Doug and Carrie made their merry way to the outdoor seating, and I hung around to grab our Panini style sandwiches. Boy, did I wait. About 10 minutes after ordering, when my iced green tea was finally ready, I decided to go outside to join Carrie and Doug. 10 more minutes go by. Tick. Tock. 5 more minutes. At this point I can feel our plants that are waiting in the car breathing their final little plant breaths and I go inside to investigate the situation. "Almost ready". They hand me one sandwich and about 5min later the other two are ready. Maybe I just wasn't prepared for the long wait for warmed sammies, or maybe I was just a little impatient that day, but waiting 35 min for three $8 sandwiches (one that was basically a grilled cheese) seemed a bit excessive. Wait bitterness aside, the sandwiches tasted fantastic (four stars for the food, one for the service). So, this might be a good place to check out if you have some time to kill, but it's not ideal for a quick bite to eat. I might try back in a couple of months to see if they have the timing kinks worked out.

Pretty good coffee & atmosphere. Lots of students from the local high school meeting before school & on lunch. They need a better hood above where they are making food. I left smelling like a panini.

I heard about Foundry opening about a month ago and since then I have been waiting every day for opening day. I was pleased to hear that they would be serving 'pour over style' coffee. My visit was during their first day of operation . Upon walking in and observing the menu I was pleasantly surprised that the Chemex was $3.75, though I didn't know how many ounces I was getting (you get about 3 cups worth). Next I started observing the staff, one who couldn't figure out the espresso machine and another who couldn't figure out the grinder and all I could think was 'pleeease don't let me down!!!' Made my order for one espresso ($1.50), one Chemex ($3.75) and a vegan muffin ($forgot). Sat down and continued to observe and realized the employee making my Chemex had no idea what he was doing and inside I was bummed. The owner(?) DID know what he was doing for all of these things I described so it all ended up OK in the end. I received my coffee and started with the espresso which was great, moved onto the Chemex that also turned out good. I thought the Chemex was made with an Ethiopian coffee but upon asking I found out it was their house blend. All in all, I'm glad that there is a new spot in town for good coffee and I won't have to drive up to Carmel to go to Eggshell as often. Good first experience. Things that would make it better / would be cool to see: -Knowing what kind of coffee you are getting upfront -Different choices of coffees -Occasional guest coffees -Another pour over styles (Kalita Wave / V-60..)

I hesitate to write a review because I love that Foundry Provisions feels a bit like a well-kept secret. Even on a beautiful morning there were a few tables open outside, and it's not felt overly crowded yet. The coffee is delicious as are the panini sandwiches. The scones were dry, but that's more of a complaint for Circle City Sweets, not Foundry. My husband and I have been searching for a comfortable, quiet, off the beaten path coffee shop, and I believe we've found the one.

Great place with great coffee. Nice to have a locally owned place in the neighborhood. Only issues are their crappy rewards program and the fact the same people are in there every morning hogging a lot of the seats without buying anything, making it difficult for paying customers to actually get a seat. But I guess that's an issue in every coffee shop.

LOVED everything. Service was great (friendly, helpful). Croissant from Circle City Sweets was very good. Tea selection was excellent and prices were reasonable. The ambiance is also much cooler than those big chain coffee shops. Cheers!

"Just good food won't bring people back" I visited this place on a Sunday right around lunch time. There is no parking available so I couldn't figure out where to park. Right behind the building there is a sign that reads " Employees Only" with enough parking space for about 3 cars. I decided to park there as I was only ordering to go and was hoping not to be there long. As I entered the coffee shop, I noticed it was packed, so I stood in line for a few minutes. The staff is friendly but on busy days or shifts they should have more employees working. There was only 1 cook making sandwiches with about 7 orders. I waited 20 minutes to get my to go order. The dining room needs better flow, if you are there like me to order carry out, you feel uncomfortable, I didn't know if I should seat or stand over other people that were eating but if I took a few steps away from tables I would be blocking the station where people would grab napkins or sugars for their coffee. If I went the other day I would be blocking the main door, or I ll be in front of people that were in line waiting to order. I don't think is the space, it's just, it needs to be inviting and have a flow for people to feel comfortable and not awkward while they wait. But I honestly believe that if they schedule more employees to help cook, everything would be fine. Lastly when I got my sandwich I got to my car and found a white paper on my windshield that read "Do not park here again!!!" That was a nice fond fare well that I was given by the restaurant staff or manager. Despite the items above, the sandwhich and Hot chocolate were really good.

I love everything about this place - the coffee, the breakfast sandwiches, the vibe inside and out and the location. So glad Foundry Provisions is here in Indy - it's one of my top spots!

An update to my earlier review: long story short, the food is still pretty great - but I'm a stickler for service, and I'm sad to it was significantly worse the second time around. Walked in with a friend mid-morning, ~9:30. Place was relatively uncrowded before & after we ordered, maybe half a dozen others. Friend ordered his breakfast press, then mine as well - their card reader was broken and I live paper-less. Though unapologetic about the breakdown, the guy manning the cashier was fairly friendly when he said "Thanks for your order, we'll bring your food to your table." We sat outside, soaking in the still-excellent atmosphere, then waited a reasonable 10-15 minutes for friend's sandwich to be placed on the counter for pick-up. Alas, I was not so lucky. I waited another 10 minutes, made some eye contact, went up and asked the cashier about my sandwich ("It's coming"), sat back down, waited another 10 minutes then finally went to the cook's counter and asked the girl making sandwiches whereabouts mine was. She looked at me a bit oddly, and at this point the cashier hopped in and said, and I quote, "Oops, my bad! I didn't write your order down so she never got it." Excuse me!?!? The girl hopped on making my sandwich and it was out within 5 minutes. Appreciated her haste, but alas, the rush meant lower quality - a cold center and undercooked/less-crunchy crust than my counterparts (and my sandwich last time.) I REALLY want to like this place. Truly. So much so that I'm going to go back a third time, this time with my laptop and no plans of leaving here in under an hour. But "Oops, my bad" is one of the worst apologies I've ever received for food that took three times as long as it should have, then was lackluster. Foundry Provisions has the potential to be an excellent addition to the neighborhood, one that's sorely needed, and most of the right pieces are already in place: great atmosphere, good coffee, perfect location, awesome menu. But bad service is something I can't stomach.

Consistently disappointed every time I visit this place. It's in my neighborhood so I've tried to give them multiple chances, hoping each mistake is just a fluke, but no luck. Service is very, very slow (25 minutes for a sandwich, 10+ minutes for a latte), they are not very friendly, and everything is overly expensive (esp sandwiches). Every time I've visited (about 5-6 times), my order is wrong. Since it take so long for them to prepare my order I usually don't have the time to complain so maybe they have a good strategy there (sarcastic). Most recently I waited 25 minutes for a sandwich but they prepared the wrong one for me. I was too hungry to wait for them to remake my sandwich so I ended up eating it anyway. They made me The Morton and I thought it was soggy and a greasy mess. The ingredients were not discernible from each other- it was more of a mushy mess. It tasted good but the price didn't match the quality.

So happy to see so many great reviews of this place. Have only been a couple times but it's a welcomed addition to the area. Between my boyfriend and I we've had a sandwich, soup, and pastry, which were all great.

Oh, it pains me to give a 1 star to anything in my neighborhood, but it must be done. I have visited Foundry several times and each time was equally frustrating. My first visit I ordered a tea and bagel and cream cheese. No joke, I waited 25 minutes for this simple order to come to me. On another visit I was the third person in line and all I was ordering was a Nicey Treat ( niceytreat.com ... the avacado is fantastic!) and it took 20 minutes to get to the front of the line. My nice treat was melting by then. I'm a chai latte fan and ordering one here was a waste of money. Did they put a ton of water in there and nothing else?!?! It kills me that food and caffeine are only a block away yet I can't go there because the service absolutely sucks like a Dyson. The one saving grace for this place is that I had their dill tomato soup once (which took forever to get) and it was the bomb. My suggestion to Foundry: Hire more staff. You need one person on the register and another filing orders. You have a neighborhood of folks that love coffee and probably dislike commercialized Starbucks over on Capital. Trust me you have no competition from Thirsty Scholar... the service, quality of product are equally as bad as yours. Your advantage is an actual kitchen which TS doesn't have. Please take my suggestions and turn your sinking ship around! I desperately want you to!

Smoking Goose bacon. Kimchi. Cheddar cheese. Tamari mayo. Paired with perfectly toasted bread, this is a perfect sandwich combination of crunchy, slightly spicy, salty, and bold. It was a lovely lunch on the patio on this sunny fall day.

Cute corner coffee place in a wonderfully revitalized north Indy neighborhood. However the service and operation of this cafe is sadly very slow and lacking. There are so many simple operational changes they could implement to quicken the pace of service

A nice place to stop by for a good coffee and a breakfast. Their lattes are really good, and I love their croissants. I recommend either the chocolate or almond croissant. The staff is quite friendly as well.

Sorry but this joint is just too cute. A friend and I stopped in for lunch today and neither one of us was impressed. They offer 5 different pressed sandwiches all with historic Hoosier names. We sampled the Harrison featuring Goose City ham, and some other stuff. The only truly distinctive flavor, more so than the ham even, was the hot romaine pressed in the sandwich. Not a big fan of toasted lettuce. The bread had a nice crunch but the "innards" needed some pop. My friend had a Tarkington. That is a turkey and provolone sandwich. He was as un- thrilled as I was. Maybe if I still drank coffee I might find something special about the place.

I work just a few blocks away from this little gem and I've been looking forward to the grand opening. This neighborhood really needed a nice, friendly coffee and tea shop and I hope that they do well here. In addition to the great coffee and tea, they have a daily soup and several Panini (darn it Yelp--this word does not need to be capitalized). The staff was very friendly and helpful. I imagine that I'll soon be a regular.

This is a sweet new spot in a city sorely lacking in local coffee places. The coffee is awesome. I have had both an iced coffee and a regular cup. There is good music overhead, and a good selection of pastries and sandwiches. My only gripes? I paid almost $4.00 for a to-go cup of regular coffee. Granted, it was great coffee, but seemed a little steep for 16 oz of regular drip coffee. Perhaps this was an error? Seems inconsistent with the rest of the menu pricing. I like that they are trying the iPad method of a cash register, but the baristas are a little confused about it, and it seriously slows down their efficiency up front. Overall this place has a great thing going and I hope they continue to do well.

Love this place....great coffee, food and all around experience!

Coffee, baby! Plus great food. Plenty of parking (you might have to go around the block). New York Times, Lattes, industrial chic. I've worked in this neighborhood for 13 years, having anything new is good...but this place is great. Looking forward to hanging out with the free wi-fi...

As an Indianapolis coffee shop frequenter, this one did not live up to my expectations. The location is good, but there is nowhere to park. The coffee is only "OK." The outside seating area is open and nice but inside is crowded, hard to move around, and loud. The staff seemed disinterested, unengaged, and uninvested in the costumers. I liked the idea and feel of the shop, I just didn't enjoy my experience there.

This is my first review but I've lurked yelp for years. I moved to indy from Louisville last summer and have been generally disappointed with the lack of 3rd gen coffee shops in the city. FoundryProvisions is teetering on changing my opinion and gives me hope for the city. This place has the appropriate vibe, eg deathcab pandora radio station, the counter knocks of baristas actually tamping the espresso, comfy/mod chairs, industrial art plastering the walls, a swirling mix of pleasant pastry smells wafts thru the air and catches your nostril's attention and piques your stomach's imagination, there are folks in business suits, hipsters with their colorful socks, lots of folks walking from the neighborhood, friendly/intelligent baristas, cappuccinos served in 6oz cups (duh). This shop was long overdue in indy. Will be back.

I love Foundry. The atmosphere, the location, the clientele, and the staff are all great, and their coffee and food are consistently delicious. I have hung out here for hours, either just chatting with friends or getting work done. On my most recent visit I took my laptop, and scanning the booths saw that they were all full. One of the customers sitting at a booth saw me looking, and invited me over to share the table with him. Just the fact that incredibly kind people like him go to Foundry makes me want to be there all the time. The only issue I have with this place is that orders seem to frequently be wrong, forgotten, or just take a really long time to get. Once I ordered an iced coffee, and after paying stood to the side of the register waiting for it. The barista rang up other people in line and made other drinks, and even made eye contact with me while I was standing there for 4 or 5 minutes. It wasn't until I reminded her I was waiting for an iced coffee that she realized she had forgotten about it. A similar thing happened on my last visit when I ordered a press. After 20 minutes had passed since I'd paid and I hadn't heard them call out any other orders, I went to the counter to ask about it, and somehow my order had been lost. The employee was apologetic and made the sandwich quickly. However, on both of these occasions I witnessed other people come to the counter while I was waiting to say that their drink was wrong or that they had been waiting a long time for their order, which makes me think this kind of thing is a common occurrence. I hope they improve this issue soon, because once it is fixed I will have nothing bad whatsoever to say about this place.
