ummm NO!! You would think a restaurant that is in the middle of nowhere would be good. Prime rib..awful, NO FLAVOR and reminded me of re-heated-rubbery texture..all 3 dinners. Service-weird-..she was "rushed" yet the restaurant not busy..2 other tables. Save your $$..spend it on gas to merriville and go to ANY other restaurant. WE over-heard another table complaining about bill and the waitress said "the manager" would take 50 cents off...WTF?? **I can do with bad service, but the food HAS to be on the mark. This place had its day and just dont care. They def. need a menu/chef change.****

8/20/14 friends came from Kentucky and wanted to eat at Martis. My wife and I are locals and know the food is all frozen and reheated. We tried to tell them the food is not close to what it used to be but they insissed anyway. I had the hot beef sandwich as did our friends husband, which we both agreed, looked and tasted the same as a frozen Banquet beef diner just reheated. The gravy was the same gelatinous goo as the frozen Banquet dinner and the beef, well I could tell it was once beef that made a long slow journey to toughness. The bread was thick but tasted old and on the verge of turning moldy. So for the sake of courtesy I said nothing. But all in all the dinner looked cheap, tasted terrible and was inedible. My wife had the Coconut Shrimp which was fried shrimp with some packaged coconut sprinkled on top. She let me try it, the shrimp tasted cooked from frozen and coconut just sprinkled on top. Again, out of courtesy I just snickered to my wife. But again a rather poor plate that I would be ashamed to offer a customer. Our friends wife ordered the Walleye which she let me taste. The fish was cooked from frozen and was dry as if over cooked. But the tarter sauce was okay as was the salad. All in all Martis is really a laughable attempt at restaurant food. But the sad part was I was charged for so poor an attempt at cooking. And that Martis' think we're such country hicks that they can place anything in front of us and we'll call it good really gets me ticked. Needless to say we will never go there again. The view of the river, to us, can never make up for a really bad meal.

This place used to be great. We went there for a birthday meal after not having visited for years. They used to serve assorted rolls with honey butter and crackers. Not anymore. The birthday meal was a mere $7 off the bill even though it says "up to $15" yet none of their meals are even that cheap. The quality of the food is poor and you need to pay for a drink because the water tastes like it was freshly drawn from the river outside. The mashed potatoes were so rubbery it literally had the consistency of flubber. The gravy could not be edible--the last time I saw something that thick and brown it was from a sewer backup. Will not be visiting again. Marty's place, what happened?

We eat here whenever we go see my husband's parents who live in a small town near here. The food is okay. It is your basic bar food, but served with baked potatoes and salads. They have a tangy garlic dressing that is good if you get the salad. I recommend the walleye filet, and definately sit outside. For a small town place, this is a bit pricey, but you get plenty of food. One big turnoff is when you forget that Indiana still allows smoking inside, and then you walk inside and remember very quickly.

We've been going to this place for over 40 years. Something has happened lately. The place looks and feels like a pig sty. They've got cardboard boxes of used books taking up some table space, a used humidifier for sale in the walkway and a garage sale rack of used clothes for sale behind the cash register. The food was still pretty much the same although some portions were cool, they brought cheap rolls and the portions were noticeably smaller. The whole place is really looking shabby too. I offer caution to anyone thinking of going...unless yard sale chic is your thing.

I love this place and my family has been going here for years. The food is delicious and we all usually enjoy their great selection of seafood and steaks. This hidden gem is on the Kankakee River and if you choose to you can sit outside right next to the river. Around the holidays they decorate the whole place which definitely helps you get in the holiday spirit. The staff are always friendly and informative. The prices are fair and the service is great. I am looking forward to another great meal at Marti's.

You get a free meal here on your birthday if you show your ID. Score! Other than the free birthday meal, it's not usually on the top of my list. The food is good but generally deep fried. There are also not a lot of options if you're a vegetarian. It's mainly a seafood place. And, as far as that goes, they do fairly well for being on a land locked state. You do have a view of the river which is an added bonus. They get an extra star for that.

I have to admit the view of the river is nice. They really do need to update the place. The food is ok. The perch is probably the most popular dish. It is always busy and it is a local favorite.

Decent food and kinda expensive but it has a nice lodge feel on the Kankakee River. The servers are nice and it is a low key environment that you can tell gets a bunch of regulars! I would definitely visit again when in the area.

I have been to marti's many times through my life and have to admit that things have not seemed the same in the last couple of years. Today though I went to lunch there and it was different seemed more like it used too. I ate in the bar and was greeted almost immediately by a hostess. Then I noticed that they are currently redecorating and was very happy to see that things are changing. I ordered the lunch special today a lake perch sandwich something that used to be on their menu years ago and it was wonderful. Three nice pieces of lake perch which you could tell were lightly hand breaded and cooked perfectly and served on a nice toasted roll. It was served with some good fries and reasonably priced. After my experience today it makes me want to go back again very soon. I am very excited to go again and see if the change continues in the positive direction.

My family was in the area one Sunday afternoon and decided to stop because of the setting on the Kankakee River. The first thing I noticed is that the entrance to the establishment is not easily accessible to individuals with disabilities - like me. One must walk up hill on a flagstone path to reach the front door. The door for the bar is not marked to distinguish it from the dining room, which I thought was mandatory in Indiana. The dining room is long, narrow and dirty; we asked to be seated towards the back so that we didn't have to deal with constant foot traffic and were told we had to sit near the door. Flies plagued us throughout our meal. I was not impressed with their lake perch, which is a Region specialty. Our granddaughter's chicken strips were clearly straight from the freezer to the fryer and she did not finish them because they didn't taste good. My husband ordered scallops, particularly showing the server which entree he wanted by pointing on the menu. He received the wrong entree and was unable to catch anyone from a manager to wait staff to complain, so he ate it. There was a difference in price for the entree he had ordered and the one he received (which was not very good), but since we were given the impression the staff would be pleased if everyone would leave, we paid our bill and left. i contacted the restaurant the next day by email and received a flippant answer from whomever handles their incoming mail. The excuse was that the server was new and she shouldn't have been blamed for the discrepancy in the order. Seriously?

Food is decent, portion was fair, price was high. But for the area, good spot to go.
