Pines Tap is your typical union-worker hangout bar. You'll see the same old guys every single day, fresh off the clock from the steel mills, sitting at the bar and sipping an MGD or an Old Style. Doesn't sound too promising, does it? Well, there is much more to Pines Tap than old union workers, my friend. This place has the BEST daily dinner specials. Me, I'm partial to the Friday night fish fry, where you can choose from fresh lake perch, cod, frog legs, shrimp, or walleye for somewhere around $7. It's a steal considering how much food you get. And this fish is GOOD! The lake perch is some of the best I've had around---and I'm saying this after having Phil Smidt's and Teibel's and some of the other infamous perch houses of the region. It almost tastes like they took fresh lake perch--only hours old---and fried it in a Long John Silver's-type batter. The result is a crispy outside and a decadent, tasty cut of fish on the inside. If you order it with fries, you'll find this side to be just as tasty as the fish. And don't expect a hole in the wall, even thought Pines Tap isn't in the greatest location of Hammond. It is very well kept up, with a handsome decor in solid wood. The regulars can tend to be a little grizzly looking, though.

Well, the darts are still FREE on Monday's, but the pitcher's of domestic beers are now $4.00. I know, I know...but it's still a GREAT deal.

I'm not a huge fan of the Pines. I'll go there because people I'm with want to go there. The place is always crowded and always smokey. The karaoke often does not start on time and the KJ's don't really seem to care about hosting a good show. When I go to sing karaoke I want to sing karaoke.

The Pines is a great place to grab a burger and a beer. Their menu is pretty good for it being "bar food" and they have some nice specials, too. The draft beer selection is impressive, and the bar staff is quite courteous. Some nights they have karaoke, DJ's or live music. If you're tired of the same ol, same ol, this place is worth checking out.

Great place to go with friends. Good drinks, and a great time. Even a future boy or girlfriend you might find.

If you're stuck in the souther suburbs or in northern Indiana and don't want to deal with the meat market, B96 clubs, then Pine's Tap is the place. It's small and the only other people you'll see are the old men sitting at the bar. The drinks are cheap and strong and the bartender is sweet as pie. This is my favorite place to go when I'm out visiting family and friends.
