I read the reviews and went last friday. The ambiance is cool, the music is cool too but it's customer requested so you do get a variety of tastes. The steak nachos were great. Ask for chihuahua cheese that makes them even better. The deals on the beer depends on the day of the week. The Bartender Jose was great, we didn't have to wait, he kept our glasses full and that always make us happy!! It's nice for a little reunion of friends. It has music, beer and TVs for those sports fanatics who can't bear to miss a game. We'll definitely be back!

This place it's not my favorite when it comes to authentic Mexican food, I liked that they have music and good drinks . I was very excited to try them but when I got my food it was taste less I'm a fan of sea food and asked for shrimp cocktail and was not what I expected, so the next time I ordered enchiladas and I didn't like them too much either. I go back sometimes because the ambience is good and it's a good place to go hang out with friends and have some drinks maybe appetizers but don't recommend de food too much if u r going for authentic great Mexican food it is not the place. I also felt like there were not enough people to take care of us, we had to wait a long time to get our drinks and to get our food. I give them 3 stars because the drinks and the music

It seems like it's been maybe 20 years since I've been in a Pepe's. This one was decent, and I must admit that the menu was more extensive than I remembered a Pepe's to have (thinking it was more like a hybrid sitdown-fast food Mexican place). Service was good, and there were plenty of private tables. I had a chili relleno lunch, with two peppers. It was decent tasting, but the peppers were soft and mushy like spinach, and I've never had one quite so mushy.

The food was what I expected of Pepe's. The service sucked. They have no concept of customer service or ensuring repeat visits. I'll drive an extra 10 minutes out of my way to the Pepe's in Calumet City before I go back there.

This is a really good Restaurant. I've never had a bad meal here. My favorites? Everything ! Pepe's is an original Chicago own business. And is named after the Great Mexican Actor "Cantiflas". Other restaurants may advertise "Authentic Mexican Food", Pepe's advertises with taste. Check out the Carne Asada a la Mexicana, Spicy, (Cooked with Fresh Jalepeno peppers), Bite size chunks of Flank Steak, sauteed with tomatoes, Garlic, Onions, Peppers and Spices. Served with Beans, Rice and Tortillas. Top it off with a Large Margarita (Many Flavors) and you'll know you've just enjoyed a Taste of Mexico. The menu has a number of delicious dishes. The other half of the PePe's Building is a "Sports Bar". Drinks are excellent and it's a Great Place to watch a "BEARS" Game. How do you know if its a good mexican restaurant? Watch the locals, they're forehead will be covered with SWEAT. The foods that good (and hot).

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
